Win a fantastic childrens book to fill your childrens bookcase

In our continuing search for great childrens books to review we present : ‘Oh No George’ by Chris Haughton which one lucky person can win by telling us your funniest ‘guilty pleasures’ story (keep it clean please!)

Whether you’re 4 or 40, it’s just about irresistible to do something a bit naughty if it’s unbelievably good fun. And so, Chris Haughton’s new book, ‘Oh No George’ picks up on guilty pleasure and appeals to kids and grown-ups of all ages.
There won’t be many four year olds who can’t identify with George. George, a large floppy eared dog is left with instructions to be good while Harris goes shopping. George wants to be good, but oh, there’s a cake to scoff, and there’s a cat to chase. What will George do? Most kids will know the answer, as my four year old did! The four year old is an animal lover, and he adored George, predicting what George would do each time when presented with temptation. We both enjoyed the playfulness of this book; it made us laugh. He decided that he wanted to read it every night, and joined in with the ‘Oh no George’ after each mess!
The illustrations, with author Chris Haughton draws first, are brilliant; stylish looking, but yet still appealing for kids. Harris’ kind and thoughtful reaction to the total mess that George (inevitably) makes is reassuring for kids too. Harris takes George to the park, and George succeeds this time in being good. But faced with a final temptation of rummaging in the bin, it’s left for the young reader to decide what George does. This is a great book for pre-schoolers, and it would be good for group storytimes too as it prompts participation, and anticipating storylines.

There’s been lots of interest inevitably in this new book from Chris Haughton. ‘A Bit Lost’ won a Booktrust Award, and Chris Haughton is doing a blog tour. Do have a look round his book tour, and read their interviews with Chris about his inspiration: Playing by the Book, Wahm Bam, Not Just for Kids, There’s a Book and My Little Bookcase and more.
