5 Tips to Make Learning to Read Easier For a Visual Learner

To thrive at school and then develop the best possible career, your child needs to be an excellent reader. Just being able to read is not enough.

A young enthusiastic reader will get through 2-3 books every week. That might be 1000% more than your child is reading. And so a huge differential will open up.

But here are some tips for making reading more fun for your child, which will soon turn it into a pleasure. We use all of them in our Easyread System, which gets extremely fast results:

TIP 1 - Avoid "Early Reader" Books

This may seem a bit crazy, but teaching a child to read with a book is a mistake. It's like teaching a child to catch a ball by playing basketball.

A bright child will look at the text and use the easiest approach, which is to memorise some words and guess the others. That seems to work OK at first, but leads to more and more guessing as the books get more complicated.

Eventually you will see a collapse of confidence at around 6 or 7 years old.

TIP 2 - "Dimensionalise" the Phonemes

Your child needs to be familiar with the 43 phonemes we use. They are the little sounds that make up each word. You can find a list of them at the beginning of any dictionary.

But phonemes are non-physical, abstract objects and very hard for your child to remember. So what we do is create strong visual characters to represent each one. For instance, for the sounds of the letter A we have the ants in pink pants, the ape in a cape and the ark in the park. Those are things your child can visualise and so remember.

The brain stores most memories in a visual form.

TIP 3 - Play These Games

You are avoiding books. So what else can you do?

Try these games, that work very well for us:

Build-A-Word. Select 6 plastic letters, including two vowels. Repeat the main sound of each one. Then think of a simple word for your child to write with them.

Select-A-Word. Write three very similar words, like hat, mat and map. Say one of them and ask your child to select which one it is.

Nonsense Words. This time, use your plastic letters to write a simple nonsense word like gab, hin, mub or wid. Ask your child to read it.

Easyread-I-Spy. This is just like the classic "I spy with my little eye..." game, except that you use the first sound of the word rather than the first letter.

TIP 4 - Less is More

Never do more than 10-15 minutes of reading practice in one go. That is the most your child can do without losing concentration. Struggling on is counter-productive.

TIP 5 - Try Easyread TrainerText

TrainerText is how we let a child read unaided, while learning. The visual image for each phoneme in a word is floating above the text, so that the child can check if a word is unfamiliar. You can do the same with the images you have created in tip 2.

Using TrainerText the fear of the text goes away, because your child can always check the images for help when needed. So confidence can build quickly.

Using these techniques you will see a new confidence developing over just a few days. The children using Easyread are more enthusiastic from day 1 and have jumped forward in their reading within 3 weeks.

Some children are excited about their first day of school and some children are a very nervous about it. It is a whole new experience for them, they are being introduced into an entirely new environment. Parents should try their best to have their child see that this experience is one that they will enjoy and that there is really nothing to feel nervous about.
First, a parent should be encouraging their child to read more than watching TV. Get the child familiar with their alphabet and the numbers so that when they go into school they will not feel uncomfortable or behind; instead, they will feel smart and confident.
Second, Shop for school clothes and supplies TOGETHER with your kid. This will make them feel like they have choice and they will also look forward to dressing up in their nice clothes and using their new supplies.It's very important. Help them put everything they need together for the next day (clothes and school stuff). Then, when dropping the kid off at school, don't stay to long (don't cry and don't kiss your baby to death). Children will react better when their parents let them explore their new environment on their own. They will feel like a "big kid" and it will also give them the chance to interact with the other children in their class.

For one thing, you’ll remember the spooky relish forever.
Now here are some Halloween recipe ideas for you to try out. These are easy-to-do and fun-to-taste. Just make them yourself and have your folks screaming for more !

Eye these Eyeballs

3 oz lemon gelatin (sugar-free will also do)1 cup hot water1 cup pineapple juice1/2 cup tiny marshmallows8 oz cream cheese (low-fat will also do) 1 cup mayonnaise (can be fat-free)
Mix lemon gelatin in 1 cup water in double boiler, add marshmallows and stir till it melts. Remove from heat. Add pineapple juice and cream cheese. Beat until it blends well. Cool it and fold in mayonnaise. If you have a round ice cube tray or truffle candy molds, pour the mixture in the molds and put it in the freezer to settle. Otherwise pour into a deep ceramic dish and chill until it is thick enough for scooping into eyeballs. Using a melon-baller, scoop out full balls of the mixture and set aside for decoration. For decoration, use liquid food coloring and paint creatively on them with a paintbrush. Use black food coloring for the pupils.

Kooky Fingers

1 cup softened butter1 cup icing sugar1 tsp almond extract1 tsp baking powder1 egg1 tsp vanilla2 2/3 cups flour1 tsp salt3/4 cup almonds, whole blanched1 tube red decorator gel
Beat together butter, sugar, egg, almond extract and vanilla in a bowl. Beat in flour, baking soda, and salt. Cover the mixture and refrigerate for half an hour. Working with one quarter of the dough at a time and keeping the remainder refrigerated, roll heaping teaspoonful of dough into finger shapes for each cookie. To make nails, press almonds firmly into the ends. Squeeze in the centre to give the knuckle shape. Make slashes in several places with a paring knife to form knuckles.
Place on lightly oiled baking sheets and bake in 325 F (160C) oven for 20-25 minutes or until slightly golden. Let it cool for a few minutes. Lift up almond; squeeze red decorator gel onto the space and press almond back in place in such a way that the red gel oozes out from below. You can also make slashes in the finger and fill them up with this red gel to add that freaky touch of bloody fingers.
Finally, remove from the baking sheets and let it cool. Repeat with remaining dough till you have enough blood-stained fingers to gross out your friends, family, or beloved !

Pumpkin Pie

2 slightly beaten eggs3/4 cup sugar1 1lb. can pumpkin (2 cups)1/2 tsp. salt1 tsp. cinnamon1/2 tsp. ginger1/4 tsp. cloves1 2/3 cups milk (approx 1 can)1/2 tsp. all spice
Get one 9-inch pie crust, slightly cooked. Bake in a heated oven at 425 degrees or for 15 minutes approximately. Keep the oven door closed and reduce temperature to moderate (350 degrees Fahrenheit/ 180 degrees Celsius). Keep on baking for 45 minutes and keep checking by inserting a table knife at the center of the pie. If it comes out clean, your pie is done. Take it out and cool on wire rack. You can eat it cold or at room temperature and you can serve it to your folks with whipped cream at your Halloween party.

The Simpsons Movie bottom Line

A clever and spirited big-screen version of its better-known small-screen cousin.By Kirk Honeycutt

Laughs come in all sizes in this big-screen adaptation of the TV series.

"The Simpsons movie" is everything a fan of the 18-year-old animated Fox television series could ask for. But then, Homer Simpson opens the movie by calling everyone in the audience "giant suckers" for paying to see what they get for free on TV. Looks like the world is full of giant suckers. Maybe some will download the movie or buy a pirated version just to feel better about being suckers. Even calculating theft into the equation -- along with the possibility that more than a few nonfans might want to catch the Simpsons on the big screen -- "The Simpsons Movie" looks like a winner for 20th Century Fox and Gracie Films.

In going for boxoffice gold, the Simpsons' trusted and loyal crew -- the multitude of writers, producers and director David Silverman are series veterans -- have labored long and hard to make a movie that hearkens back to the vintage years of the series. It's caustic, irreverent, constantly amusing and a tiny bit rude. Not a lot, though. This isn't the "Beavis and Butt-Head" or "South Park" movie. It's almost -- dare I say it -- charming.

For awhile, nothing much happens, so you might think you are watching a TV segment blown up large. Grandpa makes a prophesy while speaking in tongues in church, but no one can understand what he said. Then Homer gets it into his mind to acquire a pet pig. Cue the pig jokes, some of which have already appeared in trailers.

Meanwhile, a cute subplot finds Lisa, the family conscience, campaigning to clean up the hugely polluted Springfield lake. Against all odds, she succeeds, and the lake is declared off-limits to all dumpers. Even the local mafia agrees not to dump bodies there.

But Homer hasn't paid any attention. So when it comes time to get rid of the pet pig's poop, you know where he is going to pitch it. The result is the worst pollution in the U.S. This causes Environmental Protection Agency head Russ Cargill (nicely voiced by Albert Brooks) to convince President Schwarzenegger -- you have a problem with an Austrian accent? -- to put a giant unbreakable glass dome over the entire town.
Boy, are the town folks mad at the Simpsons now. A mob chases the family from its home. Using a sink hole discovered by baby Maggie, the family escapes the dome and moves to Alaska. Cue the Alaska jokes, which are among the weaker ones in the movie, before everyone goes back to Springfield. Now Homer actually can save the town, which Cargill means to blow up.

Laughs come in all sizes -- large, medium, small and failed, the latter happening only seldom. While little has been gained in bringing the Simpsons to the screen, other than a bigger canvas requiring a much larger army of animators, it's still fun to enjoy the crew in this new setting.

All the regular voice actors -- which include Dan Castellaneta, Hank Azaria and Harry Shearer performing multiple roles, as well as Julie Kavner, Nancy Cartwright and Yeardley Smith -- are in fine form. The animation is still stiff TV animation but why mess with a familiar look? By the way, Tom Hanks puts in a good-natured cartoon appearance, and this pretty much sums up the Simpsons' first foray into movies: It's good-natured.

Every night I read her a few stories . Lizas favorite are "The Sneetches and other stories",( especially she likes the one about pale green pants) and "Green eggs and ham".
