Papertini's Christmas Tree

Back in November, I went out to the Hyatt at the Bellevue to help my dear friend Tanti Lina, of Papertini. Tanti was invited to design a holiday tree, which would later be donated for an auction. All proceeds went to the Philadelphia Orchestra.

Papertini's tree was festive but elegant, yet children would appreciate it too! Tanti snuck in a some treasure around the tree which corresponds to a story in a book Tanti created. It was such an innovative idea for a tree that Daisy Martinez, celebrity chef and also the Festival of Trees auctioneer, went on and on about her tree. She loved it! As did lots of other people, especially the people who bid and won Papertini's tree!

But Miss cHill here does not like the cold! It has been a chilly winter so far here in Philadephia with very little sunshine. So I will be taking a mini break to Florida to soak up some Vitamin D.

If you've always thought you wanted to be a wedding planner, one of the first things you need to learn is a) can you stand and work for 12 hours straight putting everyone else needs before yours? and b) can you provide professional quality customer service?

We are looking to hire a part time assistant to field calls, emails, and also come on board to work as an assistant for day of weddings. Max 20 hours of office work with additional weekend wedding hours when applicable.

You must be professional, genuine, fluent in excel, word, and comfortable with the internet. Strong knowledge of google docs, google apps, and other google tools are a plus.

I am going on vacation! Where? Who cares?! As long as it's a vacation right?

I promise to not to respond to every email that comes in and enjoy my vacation. Although, sitting on the deck watching the sun come up with Oscar with my iPad doesn't sound too bad.

I will return August 15, assuming I do not get attacked by bears or eaten alive my mosquitoes.

Try not to miss me too much!

PS- I am going to the Poconos where I can prove my athleticism by doing very light hiking and lots of eating.

Aubert Films presents Jamie and Lynn's wedding

Back in May, I had the pleasure of working with Darell Aubert of Aubert Films. Here is the trailer he created as a teaser for their wedding video.
Their church and the ceremony was very important to Jamie and Lynn and I loved that Darell focused on that to set up the trailer.

Jamie and Lynn's calmness leading up to the wedding is very evident in this video and it remained that way for the rest of the day! Congrats again to the beautiful couple!

Jackie and Nathan gets married!

As a wedding planner, it is my job to care about the details, schedules, and other things that normal people wouldn't really care about. But I feel like it's my job to remind them that sometimes these little details don't matter, and what really does is that you're marrying your best friend, and that you will have all your friends and family there to witness it.

Jackie and Nathan's beautiful celebration of marriage reminded me of what is most important about weddings. It's not the flowers and the food, but it's the company and the memories.

I first got a call from Jackie, who was referred to me by the awesome Kelly from the Down Town Club. Jackie told me that she was leaving the country the next day, so we'd have to meet in February when she returned. Little did I know that everything was going to change for them and their wedding plans.

Shortly after they returned, their original June wedding date was pushed up to March, and Jackie and Nathan planned their wedding in a few short weeks. I remember those few weeks being crazy. Jackie and Nathan were going their friends' weddings on the weekends and living at home to be with her father during the week. I remember going to her parents house for a meeting and they had literally just pulled up to the house from a weekend away for a wedding. Despite everything they were going through, they were both so amazingly graceful. She was incredibly strong and later at the wedding, I would see that it was a trait that ran in the family.

So the time came and it was wedding day. It was a rainy Sunday in March, and I came to the hotel room with Cindy Guessford and Jen Cleary, her second shooter. It was calm, and I remember thinking that this day will go smoothly even if it kills me.

Jackie bought her gown in Thailand during her trip with Nathan. I think he may have been the first groom to actually see the dress before the wedding.

The ring shot is on a book of Philadelphia found in Jackie's Omni hotel room.

Much of the day was up in the air. Her father did make it to the wedding, but he rested in a private room and came out when he was ready. We knew this day was very important to him, so we wanted to do all the special moments when he was able to watch.

The ceremony was a traditional Jewish wedding ceremony. Nathan's sister is a rabbi and she officiated the ceremony alongside Jackie's rabbi that was present at her bat mitzah years before. I love Jewish wedding ceremonies and one of my favorite details is the walking down the aisle with both parents.

It really is a wonderful way to pay respects to both your parents in raising you, by having them escort you down the aisle together.

The highlight of the night was when her father stood up from his wheelchair to dance with his daughter on her wedding day.

It was such a touching moment and there wasn't a dry eye in the touch. This wedding was a very joyous day but it was also a day rooted with deep emotions. To see all their friends and family come to be a part of this wedding in such short notice was a testament to the relationships Jackie, Nathan, and their families keep in their lives.

The evening ended with prayer and prayer books (Benching). Nathan's younger brother stepped in and led the prayer. All guests are encouraged to pull their chairs up to the bride and grooms table. Red and White are poured into separate glasses, then poured together to symbolize creation of new life. The bride and groom then each drink from this glass of combined wine.

This amazing day was made possible by the wonderful vendors on hand.

Thank you to Cindy and Jen for the beautiful images from this wedding. They had the hard job of capturing all the moments of the day. A lot of my vendor friends are awesome, but Cindy really floored me with her professionalism and creativity.

Also, thank you to Papertini for coming in in such short notice and creating the chuppah and the centerpieces.

Her and her team were true profectionists and their work was great.

Special thanks to the Downtown Club for being so accomodating. Their staff and event coordinators are so easy to work with. Always a great time to be had at their venue.

And of course, very sincere thanks from the bottom of my heart to Jackie and Nate for allowing me to be a part of your day!

Tara and Matthew got married at St. Lawrence Church.

It was a beautiful Catholic ceremony.

The ceremony flowers, in addition to all reception flowers were done by Domenic Grazianos.

Great Gatsby Gala for Starlet Sessions

Many many many months ago, Starlet Session ladies, Kamila Harris and Emily Aznavourian, met with me over sushi and asked if I would be interested in helping them with their official studio opening in Chestnut Hill.

So, of course, I said yes! I've admired Kamila Harris Photography for a while (she's always fully booked when I have a client interested!) and Emily of Cheekadee and I work together a few times a year with our shared brides.

Since their Starlet Sessions focuses on pinup style and beautiful ladies in era clothing, they thought it would be fitting to have a theme for their party. They went with a Great Gatsby theme, which really played out well!

Here are some montage images Kamila put together:

We use the main back yard for our cocktail tables, DJ, and the cake. The DJ (Dave from Synergetic Sounds) played 20's era music and really set the mood for the party. The moment you walk down their driveway, you were greeted by my lovely intern, Sarah, who was all glammed up. Immediately you felt like you walked into the roaring 20s.

Of course, everyone was looking for the bar! Which we hid behind the studio. It is the 1920's after all - the prohibition era. So it was only fitting to create a speakeasy type bar.

Inside the studio, guests could get their eyes done and lashes did. :)

Also, there were clothes and jewelry and other accessories guests could help themselves with and take portraits taken by Kamila's assistant, Kat.

Special Thanks to Dar Clinton for providing hair to us prior to the party, and also thank you to Emily and Robin for doing our makeup!

The amazing Brittany of Petals Lane did our florals and she really hit the nail on our purple/lavendar and charcoal look. A few tables also had the crystal candle holders which added some glam to our look.

The lavendar linens and all tables were provided by Bette Sanders and Dave Buckley at Select Event Rentals.

And the adorably awesome table runners were hand crafted by the very talented Emily Aznavourian for that added touch.

Food was provided by Casual Catering of Glenside, and the passed hors d'oeuvres were based on bites that were reminiscent of the 20s period. The bar aptheocary jars were mine, but filled with delicious white and red sangria by Emily.

We had a mock cake cutting by Emily and Kamila, with a beautiful fondant cake provided by Night Kitchen Bakery.

All signage for food and bar were created by the lovely and talented Erin Proud of Proud to Plan/Proud Paper. But the whole party started with the beautiful letterpressed inviations designed by Brooke Forry of Curious and Company and printed by Clean Wash Letter Press.

But the Party is not a good party without wonderful guests. Even if the food was delicious and the decor was impeccable, if the people stink, it's not really a good party. Fortunately of us, the guests were AWESOME! Almost everyone came dressed for the occasion and fun was had by all.

Jasmin and Steve's Wedding Part Two

So you saw part one here...

Here's part two! And you can see how awesome Jasmin and Steve's wedding was!

Jasmin and Steve decided to do a first look instead of doing pictures after the ceremony, which is the more traditional route.

I understand why some couples decided to go the traditional route, but the anticipation of seeing each other before the ceremony is still great, and your wedding planner and your photographers can set it up so it's romantic and private.

Seeing each other beforehand really helps settle those nerves leading up to the ceremony and it also gets your pictures out of the way so you don't have to miss cocktail hour! Also, depending on the time of the ceremony, it may be too dark to take pictures outside afterwards, so planning ahead guarantees great pictures outside.

The ceremony was held outside. Here is Jasmin being escorted by her lovely mother.

What a beautiful picture! I love watching guests expressions as they see the beautiful bride walk down the aisle. It's usually the first tears of the day. The groom smiling and beaming is always so wonderful. It's also at this point, that I, as a wedding planner, high five my assistants because "WE DID IT!" From here on out, it's just managing time until clean out.

I LOVE her dress.

This part is usually one of my faves as well. Being announced the first time as husband and wife (or husband and husband, or wife and wife) is so beautiful to me!

The dinner was supposed to be held outdoors, with dancing under the tent, but do to the weather, we had to move everything under the tent. The ceremony and cocktail hour was outside, so I consider that a success!

Natasha, Sara, and Duyen worked their butts off hanging up those lanterns.

But I think they look great and it really added to their overall look.

Looks like it was a fun party! Kim of No Macarena kept the music going all night.

Jasmin and Steve's Wedding - Pre Ceremony

On May 22nd, cHill Weddings was busy! Christina was out with Sarah at the Sofitel for Jamie and Lynn's wedding, while Natasha and Sara was at Appleford for Jasmin and Steve's wedding.

Sadly for us here at cHill Weddings, this was Natasha's last wedding. Hopefully this won't be the last time we see her! I'll be doing a post soon about her other business venture!

Without further ado, I present to you Jamin and Steve's wedding!

Okay... I want these shoes. Jasmin, I'm coming over to steal these!

Appleford is a gorgeous venue, where Jasmin and Steve had their ceremony and reception. I'm a lover of old homes, especially homes made with stone.

Here Jasmin is wearing the right shirt the morning of her wedding. Wear a button down shirt so it is easier to take off without ruining your hair and makeup!*

I love love love this first look picture. I'm a big fan of dimples!

I really loved Jasmin's gown. It's always so refreshing to see brides wear something different. She didn't wear the traditional veil and donned a flower instead (cool!) and had little sleeves with her sweetheart neckline gown. I love again.

I think at this point, it may have just stopped raining... There were thunderstorm warnings left and right in the Philly area that day. Around 4pm, Tasha texted me to let me know that cocktail hour was scheduled to move outside!

*True story: I think my sister cut or ripped my tank top off of me because I completely spaced and wore a tank top instead of a button down shirt.

Corrine and Matt Parker's wedding in Monterey California

A few months ago, my husband and I headed over to the west coast to celebrate the marriage of dear friends, Cory and Matt (Parker). Their wedding took place in Monterey, California - about two hours from San Francisco and noted for Cannery Row, beautiful scenic views, and the Monterey Aquarium.

Before the ceremony, Cory and Parker took pictures, but they first had to do their first glance. I love how Parker is keeping his eyes closed - you can see the groomsman here that guided him to the spot where the beautiful bride was waiting.

I really love this picture because you can see Parker's expression of complete awe.

Here is an example of how beautiful the location was.

This would look great on a large canvas in their home!

Their ceremony was one of the highlights of their wedding day. As a wedding planner in Philadelphia, I rarely get to coordinate a ceremony on a cliff overlooking the ocean... I mean... could it be more picturesque?

That tree in the background is perfect too. They couldn't have picked a better place for a wedding ceremony! This ceremony was one of the most beautiful ceremonies I've witnessed.

They chose untraditional ceremony music which were personal to them. Guests appreciated their music choices since we knew their history.

Last minute, Cory asked me to step in to coordinate their ceremony. I was happy to help, and I made sure that she made it down the aisle. It was an honor to help in my friends' wedding.

I'm a huge fan of bridesmaids wearing different dresses, and even a bigger fan of dresses of different shades of the same color. The blue was perfect for this Monterey wedding - because it really brought out the ocean colors. All the ladies looked beautiful!

Cory rocked these awesome kicks in lieu of the traditional wedding shoe. Also, if you're going to climb rocks to get a great shot, you can't do it in heels!

Isn't she beautiful? She was literally glowing throughout the day.

The reception was hopping and people danced all night. Celebrating with a great couple, with perfect weather and great company - it was a wonderful wedding we'll never forget.

Unusually Fine Photography Gay Wedding Contest

Hi y'all!

Just wanted to drop in and let you know that I will be out of the office this weekend for our 3 year wedding anniversary.
We are escaping to the city for dinner and a "staycation" and some shopping tomorrow! I'll be ending the weekend with Avenue Q.

So feel free to continue to email me, but I may not be able to answer your emails and calls until Monday.

Meet Sarah our summer intern!

Some of you may have noticed that recent blog posts have been posted by Sarah Wright. Well, I'm happy to announce that Sarah is our new summer intern, and cHill Weddings is so blessed to have her. She's been a tremendous help already, and I'm so excited to have her on our team.

Let's hear what Sarah had to say:

After getting involved with my mother’s second wedding I became enamored with the intricate details and planning that go into putting together such a special day for a couple. The wedding industry excites me because of the unique personalities of each and every client. I am grateful to get to see how different cultures celebrate the unity of two people’s love for each other. I chose to work with cHill weddings because of the small and intimate feel of the company. Christina has a calm and relaxed demeanor but dedicates herself to making every client more than happy from beginning to end.

So far, I have been able to attend the ISES “Vendor’s to Vows” event in Atlantic City where Donnie Brown was a guest speaker on a panel along with many other well-known industry professionals. I also assisted Christina at Jamie and Lynn’s wedding ceremony and reception in Center City Philadelphia. After I receive my undergraduate degree from Susquehanna University in Spring 2011, I plan on pursuing a career in the wedding industry. I am excited to be able to be a part of the cHill wedding family for the summer and look forward to working more with Christina.

2010 is fully booked!

That is right. cHill Weddings has closed the books for scheduling weddings for 2010. We have started booking 2011 weddings earlier this year, so if you're thinking of a coordinator, don't wait until the last minute!

After a busy season last year, I wore myself so thin that I got very sick even before the season officially ended. So this year, I've decided to limit the number of weddings this year. I have one outstanding contract out and that will be my last booking.

If you are looking for a planner or coordinator for 2010, feel free to ask me for referrals.

Also, cHill Weddings is planning to make some changes. My clients have begun to see them already, which I will show more in detail in the upcoming posts. I'm excited for you all to see how my company continues to evolve!
