Bike Europe asked Giant CEO Tony Lo if the biggest bike maker in the world with its new facility will break the ten million mark in 2010?

Giant is investing US$ 12 million in its new Chinese facility that is currently under construction in Tianjin’s Jonghai county. Giant’s fourth Chinese plant is standing on a 225,000 m² site and will have an initial production capacity of one million bikes.

One billion US Dollars

However, Giant Group CEO Tony Lo said last week to Bike Europe in Taiwan that once up and running the new facility will have the capacity to grow to an annual production of 3 million bicycles. This year, Giant is assembling in its 8 plants 5.2 million bicycles while total 2007 sales will end at close to one billion US Dollars.

With the new Chinese facility up and running: “2008 will take us well beyond a production and sales total of 6 million bicycles. Whether we will, with the new facility running at its full capacity of 3 million units, break the ten million mark in 2010, is something I don’t and also don’t mind that much,” said Tony Lo.

Recreation Bikes

“What is more interesting is the fact that we expect the Chinese domestic market for bicycles to see a strong growth in the next five years and especially for recreation bikes. Giant is already the nr.1 brand in China and we want to stay number one and profit from the upswing in demand.”

Colmax joined CHINA CYCLE 2008

Colmax, a company with business of high end bicycle component (including Import, Export and OE foreign brand representation), joined CHINA CYCLE for the first time.

These years, the Chinese bicycle market has seen rapid development especially for high-end products. And the show is expected to grow nearlly doubled as in 2007.

I really hope Taipei show is going well after moving to the new fairground. Hopefully, this year Specialized will also have some wonderful events during our show

Bicycling in the New Year

This week is the big holiday in China for the Spring Festival, the Chinese New Year. Our unique way to celebrate is to eat eat and eat. Eat at your relatives', eat at your friends' or eat out in restraunt. So, normally you are getting fat during the week. Today is the third day of the New Year, and almost everyday I had a good dinner. Wow! I decide to biking for some time and also to touch my white Mongoose after several months. I pushed the dusts on the bike and check everything but I cannot find a good pump to air the tyre. One tyre is the French style and the other is the American stryle. My old pump can only do with the American one. The other tyre is still empty. Sorry for my white Mongoose, I will try you till I find a new pump. I need to find other ways not getting fat instead of biking during the Chinese New Year.

Happy Chinese New Year!!

Happy Chinese New Year!
I wish in the Chinese Year of Pig, everybody the best luck!
Gong Xi Fa Cai!!

Bike show's future, buyer show or dealer show

I'm always thinking of our show's future. Currently, the show is the biggest bike show in the world even bigger than Eurobike and Interbike. Yet, China is still the biggest bicycle production base. That makes our show a real buyer show not a dealer show like Eurobike and Interbike. The main exhibitors are from China and they are various bike makers. The main visitors are from all over the world and they are also bike manufactures. They need to source bike and parts from China or find their OEM partner. So, our show is really good for someone who wants to source Chinese bikes or parts.

In recent years, the local marekt for high-end bikes is growing. The international part of our show, althoug not big, consist of major bike brand. And these guys want to see dealers in China. So, we will particular attract those dealers to the show. Now, in major city of China have bike dealers or IBD stores which sells only expensive bikes. Besides the shop, they have their clubs, an online store, a BBS, and they often organize various bike activities as trials, races and so on.

So, I guess, the future of our show will be the combination of both buyer and dealer show. In the near future, the situation for China as the biggest and important bike production base will not change. But the local market is growing very fast. Shanghai is the international city with fashions for young people. Bike will their favorate leisure. And the dealer system is growing fast with the market.

In 2008, we are thinking of different ways to promote the international brand. The following might be some of those news strategies.
1. Reduce your cost. We want to reduce the cost to be in the same level of European shows.
2. To attract more local dealers and cyclists.
3. Demo day. We are thinking of the possibility to have an demo day in the outskirt of Shanghai for test riding, sturt show and other outdoor bike trial for dealers and fans only.
4. Indoor bike fashion show to attract more accssories maker as bike jersy, glass, gloves, shoes, and etc.

Our website is open

After several months' prepartion, our official website of CHINA CYCLE is now open.
