FunMail iPhone App Transforms Tweets and Text Messages into Images

FunMail is a new free app that has just been released in the Apple AppStore. The app lets users type in a message, which the app then transforms in to a fun image. Users can go ahead and send that image as an MMS, or they can use it to make a Tweet with, or even leave it on a Facebook wall. But Funmail doesn’t just transform text into just any image, its “Media Brain” automatically presents, cute, comical or irreverent images that relate to the message. Media Brain uses the advanced text analysis system that is driven by the Semantic Media Project which collects content in real time from Flickr and Creative Commons sources, and they also encourage people to contribute their own FunMail images so that the FunMail image library is always growing.

Monster and Dr. Dre Club Beats Launches at Best Buy

Yesterday we got a chance to check out the launch of the Club Beats section at the brand spanking new Best Buy in Union Square (which took over Circuit City’s old digs – may it rest in peace). Best Buy has teamed up with Monster and Beats by Dr. Dre to be one of the first big box retailers to offer not just its typical electronic and technological wares but also a source for hard core DJ’s to come and spin some tunes, mix tracks, and test out DJ equipment such as turntables, headphones, and software. I watched as some people were getting down with the DJ equipment that was on display and folks, if I dared to have made a comment about DJ Hero they would have probably sneered at me. This area is for the true music enthusiasts as well as those whose career is music. The section is also outfitted with Monster headphones from Beats to Lady Gaga as well as other gear such as a stray Dyson vacuum cleaner – well the Dyson must have been a mistake. So there is something for everyone. If one of these Club Beats pops up in your local Best Buy I suggest checking it out, if not for the music then to just watch DJ’s have at it with the equipment – you never know you may just be watching the next DJ AM spinning without knowing it.

miSoccer iPod Dock is Perfect for David Beckham

Now that the iPom is out, Speakal is ready to launch its next novelty looking iPod dock the miSoccer. This speaker is shaped and designed to look like a soccer ball that Beckham would probably toss around. The miSoccer supports all generations of iPod’s and iPhones and even has an AUX input jack to connect a TV, gaming console, or other music sources. The controls circle the top of the soccer ball and its output is about 25+ watts. This is not something to replace your stereo with, but this is certainly a cute dock to put in your kids room or a dorm room. Both pricing and availability is TBD but it will be available in three colors: red, blue, and black.

UMID mbook Now Available in Girly-Girl Pink

The UMID mBook isn’t a new UMID device, but now it has made an effort to become female friendly. Originally available in black, the $449 device is now also available in a very girly pink version. In case you’re not familiar with this MID device, it has got a 4.8″ WVGA Touch screen LCD with a 1024 x 600 resolution, a 5 hour battery life, it’s powered by an Atom Processor, and manages to fit in a QWERTY keyboard while still managing to weigh just 0.69lbs. So if you were thinking of getting the girly-girl in your life a netbook for Chrismas, you might want to wow her with the mBook since it’s super purse friendly.

The iPhone/iPod Touch glove market is starting to get very crowded….Dots Gloves is the newest pair of gloves that are being marketed as an iPhone/iPod Touch solution for those cold winter days. The glove contains three dots: one on the thumb and two on the fingertips which achieves the most response possible simulating a human finger. Hands On with Sony Ericsson’s Xperia X10

Today we got to play around with the recently announced Sony Ericsson Xperia X10, which is their very first Android powered handset. Of all the Android handsets that have been released or announced so far, the Xperia X10 seems to have the best U.I. enhancements for music and multimedia though its MediaScape interface. Also, its 4 inch high-res 800 x 480 display is superb, and will make browsing the web and watching videos that much more enjoyable. In person, the device isn’t as big as we had imagined it would be considering it’s packing a 4 inch display. It’s also pretty slim, even with it’s curved back.

Under the hood the device is sporting a a fast 1Ghz processor and an 8MP camera. We’re expecting the camera to be an especially good one in a world of poor smartphone cameras, since Sony Ericsson makes some great camera phones. On the Android front, the device has been customized with the Nexus interface which features TimeScape and MediaScape. TimeScape, which can be optionally set as your homescreen, integrates contacts, Facebook, Twitter, emails, photos, calls, and all of their status updates in to a bunch of cool floating stacks. MediaScape is a vast improvement over Android’s built in media player, it makes it much prettier, and Sony Ericsson says that it will also be able to integrate directly with third party music services.

But other than TimeScape and MediaScape, a single Nexus widget, and a blue theme – there isn’t much more customizations that Sony Ericsson has implemented on top of Android. Our hope is that they will throw in some more specialized widgets just like the HTC Hero and Motorola Blur has with their devices. There is no word on pricing or carrier information yet, but Sony Ericsson says that they will be releasing the device in all parts of the world and that they’re working hard to make the battery life as robust as possible.
