Table rental is $1.00 per table. You may display your books on and under your table. Each seller sets their own prices and collects their own money. Responsible older children (teens) are allowed to help run your table. Set-up time is 8:15 – 8:45 a.m. on Tuesday. Please contact Jennifer to reserve a table!

The purpose for the camp is to help establish the fundamentals.  It is open to the public, so all parents and players are encouraged to invite their friends as this will help cover the expenses for the camp.

Apologies for the late notice, which is due to difficulty in securing gym approval, however, PAHAA feels that a camp like this will be very beneficial for the players.

Due to the tight time frame, players need to sign up ASAP by emailing Tony VanDerWilt at tv2659@gmail.com with the player’s name, gender, age, and contact information.  Please try to sign up no later than August 9.  If you would like to talk with Tony personally about the camp please give him a call at 903-249-2659.

Syd Newman is the volunteer coach for the junior high boys team, and this will be his second year as a coach for PAHAA.  Recently I had the chance to ask him a few questions about his team and his coaching philosophy.

What are your main goals this year as the junior high boys coach?

“Getting the boys ready to play on the older team next year, especially the 12 & 13-year-olds.  The basics of ball-handling, footwork, shooting, man-to-man defense, and motion offense, and a good understanding of the rules should all become second-nature to them by the time they are physically and mentally mature enough to advance.”

What specific character qualities do you hope to instill or strengthen in your players?

“Honesty, integrity, initiative, diligence, respect, sportsmanship, unselfishness, and teamwork.”

What do you love most about coaching?

“Building strong relationships with the boys and their parents.  I derive a lot of satisfaction out of seeing them learn and improve, too.”

How has this organization specifically benefited your family?

“Playing competitive sports in a supportive Christian environment provides an opportunity to work on character issues that is hard to duplicate anywhere else.  What they take away from this experience will help them in adult life situations, i.e. work, family, church, etc.  What we do reinforces and builds upon the foundation laid by Christian parents.”

Part of PAHAA’s mission statement says that “Our purpose is to honor and glorify the Lord Jesus Christ, using athletics as a vehicle for the physical, mental, and Christian development of our children”.  And Coach Newman is doing just that as he focuses on the basics of faith and character while leading and teaching his young boys’ team the game of basketball.

The Warriors’ games will start soon, so be sure and check out the calendar so you can come and watch these teams in action.

Not only do studies show that music increases our memory, enhances coordination, and improves math, reading, and comprehension skills.  But the Word of God is also full of people who praised Him with singing and instruments!

Thankfully, there are lots of resources available to homeschoolers now so that parents can teach their children music (even for those of us without a lick of prior musical knowledge).  Or you may choose to invest in hiring a teacher.  If you go this route, our Music Lessons page on this site lists local music teachers you can choose from.

If driving distance and time are factors, the internet can be a huge help!  Using Skype to take music lessons is becoming popular and allows you to learn from the comfort of home.  So if you have a fast internet connection, remember this option is out there.

The methods of teaching and learning music are many, as are the interests and learning styles of each child.  Exploring what works best for your family is part of the joy of homeschooling!
