My apologies to the fans of Bosco

Hi there everyone, no worries, Bosco is still around but man the last few months have been crazy. There has been little time to blog and I want to try to catch up.

A lot is about to change for the chocolate guy and I don’t know if he is ready for it.

In the next six months Bosco will be moving his stuff to a new house and will be welcoming a new friend to the family.

Yes we are moving in a month to a new place with a nice fenced yard and more space for Boss.

Then in September there will be a new baby! How will Bosco feel about being bumped on the importance scale??

That will be a post in itself.

So we are still here, the blog is still active and I am hoping that I can post at least a few times a week.

Bella, Bailey and even Barack join RCMP

There’s a Bella, a Bailey and even a Barack in this year’s recruits for front-line RCMP duty.

But the U.S. president isn’t giving up his job for a crack at joining the Mounties.

Barack was one of the winning names from school children across Canada for 10 puppies at the RCMP Police Dog Service Training Centre in Innisfail, Alta.

All the names had to start with a “B” this year, and the centre received more than 8,550 individual and 343 school entries - the most ever.

The youngest winner was six-year-old Marc Richard of East Royalty, P.E.I, who came up with the name Barack.

The other names chosen were Brock, Breeze, Bullet, Barry, Badge, Blaze and Bounty.

10 pet safety tips

With the weather getting better soon, the dogs are going to be outside more and that means time to practice good safety.

The tips below are essential to emergency preparedness.

1. Make sure that your pet wears a well-fitting collar with an ID tag that has up-to-date contact information.

2. Train your dog. A well-trained, obedient dog is safer, more responsive and happier.

3. Always keep your pet on a leash when outside the house or yard.

4. In order to make traveling with your pet more manageable, be sure that your pet is comfortable in a crate or carrier, even if you don’t use one on a regular basis.

5. Know basic pet first aid such as how to stop bleeding and treat lacerations. Always approach a sick, injured or scared animal slowly and cautiously. Even your own pet can be aggressive when in pain or frightened. More pet first aid info at RedCross.org

6. Purchase or assemble a basic pet first aid kit that includes gauze pads, gauze roll/ bandages, thermometer, tweezers, hydrogen peroxide, antibiotic ointment, Q-tips, instant cold pack and rags or rubber tubing for a tourniquet.

7. Make sure that you have a pet emergency supply kit that includes an ample supply of food and water, blankets, a spare leash and collar, food bowls, garbage bags and any needed medication and a recent photo of your pet. See full pet emergency supply kit checklist

8. Remain as calm as possible during stressful or emergency situations - your pet is easily influenced by your behavior and will mirror your stress or panic.

9. Be aware of the dangers of common household items - from poisons and pesticides to chocolate and certain houseplants - and keep them away from your pet.

10. Be aware that extreme temperatures have drastic effects on pets. Heat exhaustion is often caused by leaving pets in parked cars or over-exercising pets during hot weather. To cool off an overheated pet, offer plenty of water, wet his or her body and paws with cool water, then fan.

Bosco is not missing in action

Hi everyone, just wanted to give a quick update on everything that has been going on. Bosco is doing well and everything is fine but I just can’t seem to find the time to blog anymore.

The chocolate guy is kind of mad at me because he knows how much his fans want to hear about him.

This weekend we have company in town so that will make up for it. Bosco loves company and sharing his space with new people.

We just hope the company does not mind spending a lot of time with him.

Spring is getting closer as well and that means longer walks and trips to the lake for swimming.

Thanks to everyone who still checks in and reads this blog.

One day things will get a little more regular.

Week 3, is Bosco not getting enough exercise?

Well week 3 is in the books for the new job and everything is going well. I won’t bore you with the details because you are here to read about Bosco. The one thing that I have noticed after a visit to the vet is the chocolate guy has gained a few pounds.

Now that is not a big deal but I do wonder if it has anything to do with the change in Bosco’s routine? Now he is getting his walks at the end of the day after two meals and I won’t lie, the walks may not be as long and fun as they used to be.

I am pretty tired when I get home and we just go over to the school yard and play fetch for a bit to get “the beans” out.

Before we would go on long walks every morning that I know Bosco enjoyed a lot more.

I am going to guess the minor weight gain is not a trend and will keep an eye on it. The warmer weather will improve the quality of walks as well. We can go to the lake and swim those pounds away!

This week Bosco has his annual checkup at the vet and has to get a new city tag. Big week I would say.

Week 2, Bosco is a happy guy once again

Well week 2 of work is in the books and everything is going great. I won’t bore you with the human aspect of it but I will tell you Bosco has settled into a nice routine. Here is how a typical weekday goes for Bosco.

6:30AM: Wake up and wait for human’s alarm to go off.

7:00AM: Storm into human’s room just in case he thinks he will hit snooze.

7:10AM: Eat food, go outside for pee.

7:11AM: Go back to bed, it has been a long day already.

7:55AM: Go outside once more before human goes to work.

This is where it gets fun.

8:05AM: Human has gone to work. Morning nap til 10am.

10:00AM: Check out what is on TV. Not much that a dog will like but settles for the morning talk shows just in case there is a dog on one.

11:00AM: Another nap, this time on the couch. Hey, why not right?

Noon: Wishing there was lunch, instead cleans out toy basket just in case there is a treat in there. Thinks about eating cat’s food, does not.

1:00PM: Always a good time to stare out the window and catch some rays. Seeing all those lucky dogs that get midday walks is annoying. Time to go back to bed.

2:00PM: Not much longer now, time to drink all the water.

4:00PM: Getting excited for a walk soon. Hope the human does not forget to come home.

5:00PM: Here car door shut in driveway. Time to storm the front door.

5:10PM: Dinner time!! Always gone fast.

5:15PM: Walk around the neighbourhood and a much needed bathroom break. Ahhhhhhh.

There you have it everyone, what Bosco does while I am at work.

It starts all again the very next day.

First week in the books and Bosco seems okay!

Well that was an exhausting week. My first week back at work outside of the house and Bosco seems to of survived. Working 9 to 5 means the Boss now gets his walks at the end of the day instead of the beginning. That means some hyper beans when I get home and he is certainly ready to roll. The walks have been a little on the short side lately because of the cold and the ice but they should get longer as the days get longer and I come home not so tired.

The new job is going great but when you start out, there is so much info, it takes it toll on your brain. I am pretty happy Bosco knows how to roll with it and can deal with a lot of change.

We have been down to the vet a few times just to visit his girls and get treats so that keeps him happy.

The tired nights have also led to me not finding as much time to post on here but I hope that will change. I know warmer weather helps because that means car trips.

I just wanted to check in and let you know Bosco is doing just fine and it should only get better from here on in.
