Looking to buy a new puppy, try online

I can’t believe it has been 8 years since I went through the process to find and buy a puppy. Technology has really advanced since then and therefore, there are so many more options to find the puppy that is right for you.

I used classified ads in traditional newspapers and had success finding a regarded breeder. But that was just luck and the fact that I was looking for a particular kind of dog.

But what about now? It can be hard to find legitimate breeders in the papers, in your town and elsewhere.

More and more are turning to the online classifieds to look for puppies for sale.

The economic downturn is tough all over so breeders may have sales or lower prices but that does not mean you should not do your homework.

If you are shopping online, you need to use a classifieds that has trust and provides all the information up front.

One such site that has dogs for sale is the website Puppies for Sale. There whole purpose is to provide a safe, trusted and valuable tool for those looking to buy dogs or puppies.

It is a free classifieds site where you can browse for the exact dog you want including breed and the location they are available.

One cool feauture that will cost you is what they call “pick of the litter.” This gives you first shot at the dogs and will really help you if you are looking for stud dogs.

Otherwise it is free to contact ads older than a week.

The site also includes photos, prices and all the contact information you need to do the best research possible.

Buying a dog is not like buying a pair of pants online. You need to really do the research and plan the whole process out.

A pet dog is a huge responsibility and needs to be taken seriously.

I really hope this website can help someone out find their next best friend.

Can the Chocolate Dog Blog make a comeback??

Wow it has been over a year since I posted here. Time flies when life is kicking you in the ass with things to do.

So can I find the time to get this blog going again? My skills and knowledge are far superior than they used to be so maybe, just maybe I can get this game going again.

This blog has been getting 4-5 thousand views a month and I have done nothing to it. Not bad.

Anyways, stay tuned for the return of Bosco.

Hi there everyone, no worries, Bosco is still around but man the last few months have been crazy. There has been little time to blog and I want to try to catch up.

A lot is about to change for the chocolate guy and I don’t know if he is ready for it.

In the next six months Bosco will be moving his stuff to a new house and will be welcoming a new friend to the family.

Yes we are moving in a month to a new place with a nice fenced yard and more space for Boss.

Then in September there will be a new baby! How will Bosco feel about being bumped on the importance scale??

That will be a post in itself.

So we are still here, the blog is still active and I am hoping that I can post at least a few times a week.

Bella, Bailey and even Barack join RCMP

There’s a Bella, a Bailey and even a Barack in this year’s recruits for front-line RCMP duty.

But the U.S. president isn’t giving up his job for a crack at joining the Mounties.

Barack was one of the winning names from school children across Canada for 10 puppies at the RCMP Police Dog Service Training Centre in Innisfail, Alta.

All the names had to start with a “B” this year, and the centre received more than 8,550 individual and 343 school entries - the most ever.

The youngest winner was six-year-old Marc Richard of East Royalty, P.E.I, who came up with the name Barack.

The other names chosen were Brock, Breeze, Bullet, Barry, Badge, Blaze and Bounty.

10 pet safety tips

With the weather getting better soon, the dogs are going to be outside more and that means time to practice good safety.

The tips below are essential to emergency preparedness.

1. Make sure that your pet wears a well-fitting collar with an ID tag that has up-to-date contact information.

2. Train your dog. A well-trained, obedient dog is safer, more responsive and happier.

3. Always keep your pet on a leash when outside the house or yard.

4. In order to make traveling with your pet more manageable, be sure that your pet is comfortable in a crate or carrier, even if you don’t use one on a regular basis.

5. Know basic pet first aid such as how to stop bleeding and treat lacerations. Always approach a sick, injured or scared animal slowly and cautiously. Even your own pet can be aggressive when in pain or frightened. More pet first aid info at RedCross.org

6. Purchase or assemble a basic pet first aid kit that includes gauze pads, gauze roll/ bandages, thermometer, tweezers, hydrogen peroxide, antibiotic ointment, Q-tips, instant cold pack and rags or rubber tubing for a tourniquet.

7. Make sure that you have a pet emergency supply kit that includes an ample supply of food and water, blankets, a spare leash and collar, food bowls, garbage bags and any needed medication and a recent photo of your pet. See full pet emergency supply kit checklist

8. Remain as calm as possible during stressful or emergency situations - your pet is easily influenced by your behavior and will mirror your stress or panic.

9. Be aware of the dangers of common household items - from poisons and pesticides to chocolate and certain houseplants - and keep them away from your pet.

10. Be aware that extreme temperatures have drastic effects on pets. Heat exhaustion is often caused by leaving pets in parked cars or over-exercising pets during hot weather. To cool off an overheated pet, offer plenty of water, wet his or her body and paws with cool water, then fan.

Bosco is not missing in action

Hi everyone, just wanted to give a quick update on everything that has been going on. Bosco is doing well and everything is fine but I just can’t seem to find the time to blog anymore.

The chocolate guy is kind of mad at me because he knows how much his fans want to hear about him.

This weekend we have company in town so that will make up for it. Bosco loves company and sharing his space with new people.

We just hope the company does not mind spending a lot of time with him.

Spring is getting closer as well and that means longer walks and trips to the lake for swimming.

Thanks to everyone who still checks in and reads this blog.

One day things will get a little more regular.

Week 3, is Bosco not getting enough exercise?

Well week 3 is in the books for the new job and everything is going well. I won’t bore you with the details because you are here to read about Bosco. The one thing that I have noticed after a visit to the vet is the chocolate guy has gained a few pounds.

Now that is not a big deal but I do wonder if it has anything to do with the change in Bosco’s routine? Now he is getting his walks at the end of the day after two meals and I won’t lie, the walks may not be as long and fun as they used to be.

I am pretty tired when I get home and we just go over to the school yard and play fetch for a bit to get “the beans” out.

Before we would go on long walks every morning that I know Bosco enjoyed a lot more.

I am going to guess the minor weight gain is not a trend and will keep an eye on it. The warmer weather will improve the quality of walks as well. We can go to the lake and swim those pounds away!

This week Bosco has his annual checkup at the vet and has to get a new city tag. Big week I would say.
