Want to make your photographs more exciting and set yourself a part from others? Try incorporating action shots next time you shoot. “But my subject doesn’t move,” you say. That’s where the exciting part comes in. Action shots do exist in the food world – pouring on sauce, dipping a chip, stirring a pot, piping on frosting, caramel oozing out. Think about the interaction that you have with food. If you keep reading, I will show you a trick on getting action shots without the need for another person in the kitchen.

Today is a day of celebration because it is my birthday. Happy birthday to me! I’m not the type to have big birthday celebrations. Growing up, my birthdays usually flopped, ranging from nobody showing up to my skating party to family being sick to just not being very good days. However, the one thing that is a must is a decadent dessert. Instead of cake this year, I made Toasted Marshmallow Ice Cream Cookie Sandwiches, a few of my favorite things rolled into one dessert. Chocolate chip cookies, toasted marshmallows, and ice cream. Looks like today is going to be a great day.

Click here to finish reading Toasted Marshmallow Ice Cream Cookie Sandwiches

© 2007-2012 Chocolate Moosey | Carla Cardello

It’s been awhile since I brought you a photography lesson. Awhile back, I covered the different camera modes for most DSLRs. Today I’m going to talk about the Shutter Speed (Tv for Canon, S for Nikon) Mode. Now that the weather is getting nicer and people are playing outside, there are plenty of opportunities to practice action shots. However, there are also opportunities for action shots right in your kitchen. This guide is written specifically for DSLRs; however, there are point and shoot cameras that have the Tv/S Mode as well. Learn what shutter speed is, when to use which numbers, and how speed applies to food photography.

Click here to finish reading Understanding Shutter Speed

© 2007-2012 Chocolate Moosey | Carla Cardello

This Chicken Fajita Feta-ccine is a long lost recipe from my recipe binders. I have three thick binders plus a few skinny ones. As I cooked throughout college, I printed recipes and stored them in my binder along with magazine pages I tore out. I made this fettuccine dish a lot, and I remember my mom even requested it a few times when I would cook at home for them. Soon after graduation when I started my night shifts at Target, I lost a lot of my joy. Finding a degree-worthy job while cleaning up after slobs and being yelled at because you don’t know what color the filing cabinet is in the box or whether the wrinkle free sheets are truly wrinkle free doesn’t exactly leave you inspired to do much. However, those binders mean a lot to me, and as I moved on to my big girl job, I packed those binders as is. They sat on my shelf as my cookbook collection grew. Then I got my iPhone and started digitizing my recipes. One day, I needed my recipe for pizza sauce in my binder, and as I turned the pages, I found all kinds of recipes I used to make, including my Chicken Fajita Feta-ccine. I was so excited that I couldn’t wait to share it with you. It’s the flavors of chicken fajita with an Italian twist of pasta. It’s a great meal to make for today’s #SundaySupper Cinco de Mayo Fiesta when you don’t want traditional food.

Click here to finish reading Chicken Fajita Feta-ccine #SundaySupper #cincodemayo

© 2007-2012 Chocolate Moosey | Carla Cardello
