Never Say Never

I can't believe I am doing this. Well trying would be closer to the truth. Anyone who has read my first blogs would know that exercise has never been something I really enjoyed. When starting with the Choose To Move program I pledged to do 30 min of activity ie. exercise 4-6 days per week but said running would never be on my agenda. I have a history of knee surgery on both knees with the injuries basically caused from to much weight on these poor old knees. The knees have long been fixed and I have been working at various exercises to keep my pledge. I would start a new machine and work up to a certain level and look for something a little harder, of course the working up part would take months. Before Christmas I was walking on the treadmill and increasing my walking speed and began thinking "could I?, should I dare?---Run?? I have always said I would never run, didn't want to take the chance that I would injure my knees, but they have been in good shape for a long timet sssoooo, maybe. I googled "beginning running" and I liked the article I found at runnersworld.com. The article " 8-week beginning runners training program" caught my eye. However what they say can be done in 8 weeks will take me 8 months but I don't care, I figure I will be exercising and if I make it to the end of the course I will be running and that will be great. I am also planning to run with the girls at school. One of the teachers started a Girls on the Run program for the girl students and I am going to follow the program with them. I can use all the encouragement I can get and maybe I will be a runner in less than 8 months. Anyway for those of you out there considering a certaing activity I would say don't close your mind to any possibility, take it at your own speed. If it works great, if not give something else a try but whatever you do, do Choose To Move because that is the key to it all.

new year, new you

It's another new year. I know it's a new year because every commercial break reminds me to go to the gym, start a new diet, keep resolutions and be a “new me in the new year”. I’ve been a new me for a while now, thank you very much. There will always be diets and gyms. The hardest (and simplest) thing to remember is that I don’t need either one to keep being the new me but it sure helps if I want to keep it up. Well, I don’t mean the fad diets as much as I mean the gym.

Here's to a wonderful 12 weeks of learning (even by my own mistakes). I have enjoyed this time. I did not aim too high to maintain consistency. I also did not want the stress and guilt of not reaching a high goal to cause depression. But you know, I have really surprised...ok...SHOCKED myself at how much I have done. I have learned a valuable lesson that if "its" not in the house...you won't eat it. Whatever your "it" is, I've learned that healthy alternatives are key. My goal in the beginning of the twelve weeks were to simply be able to button my pants and I'am proud to announce.........I CAN!

Love you guys! You are the best! Thankyou AHA for everything! And thanks for all the CYBER CHEER!

PS. I think I might stick around for awhile! :-)
