Because my newborn kept me up all night, I ended up staying home from work today and sleeping until 11. This afforded me with the opportunity to take my 20 month old son to the first Tigers Spring Training game. We didn't stay long (~3 innings), but it was long enough to see Miguel Cabrera hit with Prince Fielder on deck (!!!!), see the Tigers go up 3-0, and get some strawberry shortcake when mommy wasn't around to stop us.

Patrick put up a 23-hour fight, but after a long day that ended in a c-section, he arrived safely and happily, and both he and mom are doing great. Stats: 22.25", 9lb 8oz.

going back to Church on a regular basis for the last six months or so,
but a recurring theme I've noticed between the two Churches I've gone
between is the relaxing of peoples’ standards for how they dress.

Now I don’t want to seem like I am coming back to Church and
immediately judging those who have been there longer and more
frequently than I. This issue is one I’ve argued in other venues as
well, from kids wearing pajamas to class, or the concept of a family
dinner (and how everyone should at least have normal clothes on, not
necessarily dressy but certainly not pajamas).

Maybe it is the Marine in me, but I think you should always at least
respect the situation, the ceremony. If not that, then at least
respect the people involved. In the home, you might respect the effort
the person went through cooking a whole meal for the family. At
school, that instructor who is in front of the students working hard
to impart their knowledge to students who otherwise may not care. And
in Church, not only are you and the others around you there
voluntarily, but you are there with a purpose, and are in the presence
of God and the Eucharist, no less. If you can't respect your fellow
parishioners, the Priest who is up there serving Mass, or the material
of the ceremony itself, couldn't you at least have the humility not to
show up in short shorts, flip flops, or the like, given the importance
of why you're there?

Again, not my place to judge, but just my two cents. Seems an issue
permeating many parts of my life lately, so thought I'd write about
it.
