At about 8.27pm Vivian and I arrived at the entrance to PISA.

We couldn’t help but take pictures with the ballon-like lamppost.

The line into the event was actually quite long but thanks to Hennessy, this time round, I went under the category of Media & Blogger. So I skipped the line and went straight to the counter.

As we came upon the entrance into Spice Arena, Julie Woon, the emcee of tonight was busy interviewing two local acts, namely Dennis Lau and Alexis Chean.

Once inside, I was shocked at the number of crowd. There were easily hundreds of them already there, waiting to party.

Of all the liquor brands in Malaysia, nothing beats Hennessy’s free flow. You could see the crowd already helping themselves to glasses after glasses of cognac from the 10 bars all over the arena.

There were so many rows of glasses filled with happy juice.

The usual flavours were soda, ginger, berry, and apple.

Somewhere into the night, I asked the waitresses and according to them, the most popular was apple followed closely by ginger.

Interesting enough, my first drink was a bottle of Spritzer.

At the main bar in the center of the arena, there was a big screen with a deejay stand above it.

At about 8.45pm, Alex A Squared, Malaysia’s very own dj, started doing his stuff.

Up until 9.15, all patrons had to wait by the non-zonal white area.

Zone P is for the general public, Zone H/O is for associates of Hennessy Malaysia and Zone V/S is for artists, media and VIP. There is not much difference in the zones in terms of service but being in Zone V/S will give you direct access to 24Herbs, Andy Murphy and Nicole Chen.

I loved this year’s Hennessy Artistry experience because I was put in Zone V/S.

And because of this piece of tag hanging down my shoulders, I had direct access to any and every zone there is. Woo hooooOOOoo!

As it was still 5 minutes to 9pm, the zones were still off limits to the public. I used the privilege to snap as many pictures as possible of the zones before the ensuing chaos.

First up, Zone V/S.

I noticed that there were 2 bars at each end, enough to keep up with the demands of the night.

Found a few tables with the media sign.

Zone H/O also had 2 bars serving.

Although Zone P had only 1 bar serving, it was a big, long one.

The empty tables and chairs that will fill up in a matter of seconds at 9.15pm.

1 second later.

At 9.40pm, a countdown timer appeared on the huge LED screen on stage.

Those in Zone V/S could see 24Herbs by the side, waiting for the cue to go on stage.

This is how it happened.

It was really like being in a concert, except this one didn’t require any ticket purchase.

At about 9.20pm, my newfound favourite emcee, Julie Woon, came on stage to smoothen the transition from 24Herbs to Andy Murphy by keeping the crowd entertained.

5 minutes later, Dennis Lau came on stage with his solo violin performance.

And then came Alexis Chean with Andy Murphy behind.

At about 10.28pm, Andy Murphy took on the party himself.

1 minute later, the Malaysian heat got to him and he took off his blazer.

Haha. Hot leh….

I think Andy himself was surprised to see 4 girls dancing on stage to his selection of songs.

At 10.40pm, a toy helicopter was seen flying over the crowd in Spice Arena.

I searched around and managed to find the driver behind it.

Vivian’s highlight of the night were her pictures with these 2 members of 24Herbs and

Andy Murphy.

I kid you not but E&O is one of 2 hotels in Penang that gives their customers the hardest headache when it comes to food selection during buffets as you can see from the pictures above, it is just impossible for one to savour every single item that is on display. If you love drinking wine or beer, you should consider going for the weekend buffet on Friday and Saturday evenings. Both are free flow. As of writing, E&O is giving away a 30% discount when you print and show the flyer below when paying. Total value for money!

08.05 am – Arrived at Kuching International Airport, the 4th busiest airport in Malaysia after KL, KK and Penang.

09.17 am – Although I traveled to Kuching for only 3 days, I managed to read both March and April’s issue of Travel 3Sixty. That’s because my departure date fell on the 31st of March whereas my return date was on 2nd April.

10.21 am – Gave tandoori chicken wrap a try.

Hmmm… I must say I still like tuna better.

12.30 pm – At last, home sweet home!

The famous Poh Lam Sarawak laksa, totally different from what you’d get back in Penang.

Ordered a glass of Kuching’s teh c special, which consist of tea, evaporated milk and gula melaka. The only thing that sets it apart from the ordinary Malaysian tea is the gula melaka.

Saw some promotion items on the wall of the coffee shop but decided against it.

09.44 am – After breakfast, we went back to our hotel, took a poop, showered and proceeded to our destination of the day, the Botanical Research Centre of Semenggoh where the orang utans reside.

Payed the entrance fees of RM3 per person by the gate.

If you came by public bus, you’re gonna have a hard time as the actual entrance to see the orang utans is pretty deep inside. Lucky for us, we had our trusty motorcycle.

After 4 minutes of riding, we finally reached the actual entrance to the viewing area.

As we were making our way inwards, we caught an orang utan mother with her baby, making their way inwards from the side of the road.

As Vivian and I were walking ahead, we managed to have crossed the bridge before the park rangers held off tourists for the orang utans to make their way to the feeding platform.

11.10 am – Made our way back into the city to eat the popular belachan bee hoon of Song Kheng Hai food court.

I actually love the sugarcane juice with shredded fresh coconut meat. Simply delicious!

11.45 am – Took a walk down to the river jetty about 5 minutes walk from Tune Hotels.

Lucky for us, there was already a river taxi approaching us.

The journey only took 2 minutes, paid him RM1 per person before disembarking.

Cool thing is, everyone gets to try any of the 60 over varieties from the sample boxes.

Their service is exceptional as there is always a person on standby to serve every group of customers that walk in through their door.

12.13 pm – After a long time of deciding, we finally decided on 4 different flavours, all nicely packed into a box for us to carry onboard our flight back to Penang. Real quality service from Dayang Salhah.

12.19 pm – On the boat on our way back to our originating jetty.

We also ordered kueh chap, one of my favourite high cholesterol dishes back in Penang.

04.04 pm – Took a walk along the shops lining Jalan Main Bazaar looking for souvenir.

04.21 pm – Barely made it back to our hotel when it started to rain very heavily.

05.20 pm – Went to the newest shopping mall in town called The Hills.

Decided on having a break there.

As it was a rainy day, there weren’t many customers. Wasn’t hard to find a nice cozy sofa to settle down in.

09.11 pm – Went back to Myloft for a glass of beer before ending our day.

One could see Penang airport undergoing minor expansion, major facelift on the way from security check-in to the departure gates.

07.06 am – I was on my seat on the plane, ready to turn to page 1 of Travel 3Sixty.

Halfway into the 2 hours flight, I couldn’t help but become hungry.

May not look that appetizing, but it was delicious!

09.06 am – Arrived at Kuching International Airport.

Approached the Tourist Information counter to get as much information as possible about things to do around the city.

It was easy for us to get to the hotel as Tune Hotels Kuching provided transport from the airport direct to the entrance of the hotel for only RM8 per person. A typical fare for a taxi ride into town costs RM26 at the time of writing this article.

09.37 am – Hit the road.

09.56 am – Ladies and gentlemen, Tune Hotels Kuching. A shitty place to stay as you could hear doors making a loud bang when closing and kids run around the hallway of the bedrooms all day. My first and last time in Tune Hotels Kuching.

Motorcycles. The best way to get around the city. RM40 per 24 hours. Freedom of mobility. Any day better than wasting time waiting for a bus or paying ridiculous amounts to unscrupulous taxi drivers.

10.14 am – Arrived at Jalan Bishopsgate for

Sin Min Joo, Kuching’s hidden gem, for breakfast.

We intended to go for the belachan bee hoon but too bad business was too good.

05.41 pm – When the rain was almost done, we took a ride around town in an attempt to locate the potential hang out spots.

06.39 pm – Identified another bar nearby our hotel called My Loft.

Visited Kuching’s Sunday market off Jalan Satok. I guess not many tourists would be attracted to come here as the emphasis is mainly on fresh produce like fruits, vegetables, meat, etc.

08.13 pm – Decided to hang out in My Loft as they still had their RM14 per pint of Guinness promotion for the month of March.

After almost 1 whole year of waiting, Hennessy Artistry, the large scale super clubbing experience will open its doors again to invited patrons on Saturday, 25th of May 2013 in PISA Penang’s Spice Arena. I kid you not but Hennessy Artistry is my most anticipated clubbing event of the year. Here are 5 solid reasons why.

Free Flow Premium Hennessy V.S.O.P.



During the previous Hennessy Artistry in SQCC, free flow of Hennessy cognac was served from the second its doors opened at 7pm up until 3am. Moreover, VSOP and not VS, is served during the party. VSOP stands for Very Special Old Pale, meaning that the cognac is aged inside oak barrels for at least 8 years. VS cognac is only aged for at least 2 years. 6 years worth of difference in taste!



A bottle of Hennessy V.S.O.P is sold for about USD35 in duty free shops in airports. Organizers of the upcoming Hennessy Artistry event in Spice Arena are expecting a crowd of 4000! If on average 5 people are expected to drink 1 bottle and if 4000 patrons really did turn up, you can expect Hennessy to have at least 800 bottles of premium Hennessy VSOP on standby.

800 bottles X USD 35 = USD 28,000 = MYR 85,000 = the minimum cost of drinks alone

I bet it will cost more than that because it is FREE FLOW! Woooooo hoooooo!

Music Acts



Every year, different international and local acts are invited to perform during Hennessy Artistry. This year, 24HERBS, Andy Murphy and Nicole Chen are slated to perform.

24HERBS



24HERBS is a Hong Kong hip hop group formed in 2006 that consist of six members, 2 of whom were previously in LMF, or better known as Lazy Mutha Fucka. My LMF all time favourite single has got to be this.



Asian youth, those of Chinese descent and especially boys, will definitely have heard of Lan Kwai Fong, a movie released in 2011 that is about the party central in Hong Kong of the same name. The movie in terms of storyline quality is rubbish. Acting is mediocre.

However, the party, sex and drama theme appeals to the younger generation(including me ). After watching the movie, it made me want to go to Hong Kong SO DAMN MUCH!

To top it off, 24HERBS’ Wonderland was used as the theme song for the movie. Every time I hear Wonderland, I think of clubbing at Lan Kwai Fong. Thanks for poisoning my head, 24HERBS! Looking forward to seeing you guys perform!

Andy Murphy



Andy Murphy, the Australian Eletro House DJ from Melbourne, will be playing at Hennessy Artistry in Spice Arena. Looking relatively attractive, I bet girls are gonna enjoy him during his set. Moreover, his songs are pretty good. Below are 12 excellent examples of his sound mastery.

I have my fair share of clubbing experience but I have never seen soooOOOOooooo many hot, sexy, elegant and attractive ladies under one roof as evident during Henessy Artistry 2012. Even my girl friends agreed and wondered where the hell did these girls come from? Maaaann! We never knew Penang had so many amazing beauties! If I were the organizer, I’d assign a qualified photographer going all over the place during the party taking photos of ALL the hottest girls in action, further increasing the appeal of the event for the future.



Of course, another worthy highlight of the Hennessy Artistry event is the 50 brand ambassadors who will be serving the crowd as bartenders, registrars, waitresses, etc. I am so looking forward to getting served!

The organizers have also arranged for 1000 taxis to be on standby to fetch patrons back to their homes. That’s what I call doing it right! To secure the taxi service beforehand, call 012-469 9723 to make your reservations at least 24 hours before the event.

Thanks to Emily and Criz, I obtained the opportunity to attend Hennessy’s VSOP Kyrios Launch Party at Room Autocity. You see, Hennessy has this line of limited-edition-specially-designed-annually line of bottles called the Hennessy VSOP Privilege Collection. The first ever product from the line was the Helios which launched in 2011. The name originated from Greek mythology, Helios being the name of the sun, much like the flashy visuals of the bottle design.

Then in 2012, Hennessy introduced Nyx, meaning goddess of nights & dreams. The bottle was designed with ultraviolet materials, therefore it glows in the dark.

Come 2013, the Kyrios was born. Its body is presented in a matte carbon gray mantle and gives an elegant aura. The “bras arme” reflects the long history of Hennessy and has been part of the Hennessy seal for more than 2 centuries. For now, these bottles may be worth nuts but in 10, maybe 20 years’ time, one may be able to make money off of it!

So on the 29th of March, I drove all the way from Penang island to Room Autocity, Juru. Although the supposed meeting time was at 8.30pm, I only made it at 9pm as it was a Good Friday. I think the jam on the bridge was caused by islanders heading to St Anne’s church in Bukit Mertajam. I kid you not but the crowd at 9.18pm was practically non existent. Not a guest was seen standing around outside Room’s entrance.

However, there were the Hennessy girls standing around. If I’m not wrong, there were a total of 10. Good job to whoever that selected them. In any case, I think a better job was done during Hennessy Artistry 2012 in SQCC, Penang as there were so much more of of them.

As I entered, a waterproof wristband was slapped on my wrist, ensuring that I’d be able to get back in smoothly if I were to leave the premise.

Each person was given a coupon upon entering.

The walls of the walkway between the hall and restroom were decorated with several Hennessy VSOP Kyrios bottles, each with their own rotating stand.

At 9.30pm, we were the first and only group of guests. It felt disappointing at first for during Hennessy Artistry 2012, there was already a huge crowd waiting outside of the hall by 8.30pm.

The cool thing was, we had our own table. This was my first time ever attending an event as part of the media.

By the bar, one could find Hennessy pre-mixed with 4 different kind of flavours.

Apple.

Berry.

Ginger.

Soda.

The crowd grew merrier as the night progressed.

B.A.T.E. started their set first.

DJ Cookie from Luxy (one of the 2 nightclubs I enjoyed myself in when I was in Taipei) came on next.

The group of bloggers that attended the event was pretty big. Met lots of personalities. There were some who were shy, others were party animals, a few hardcore drinkers, and then there are the shutterbugs who won’t stop taking photos. Again, a million thanks to Emily the zebra and Criz for making it happen!

Born in 2011, B.A.T.E. consists of DJ duo Wai Hong and Ethan Curzon. Although they have only spent less than 2 years together as B.A.T.E., they have been spinning in clubs around Kuala Lumpur like Vertigo Club, Ecoba, Bakita, Lust, Zouk, The Pool, Bedroom, etc. Find out more about them by visiting their Facebook page.

Bass Agents (Mr Nasty & GuruGuru)

Formed originally in Melbourne back in 2000, Bass Agents returned to Malaysia 3 years later and pioneered a new era in the underground dance scene in Malaysia with their very own hard dance event called Hardsequence. It was a night that saw many local and international acts introduced, garnering 2 JUICE Reader Choice Awards, namely “Best New Local Night” and “Most Up For It Crowd” within a year. The ASEAN blogger festival is happening in Solo from 9-12 May 2013 and I’ve been personally invited. Yay! I look forward most to these 3 things from the event.

Now, thanks to the organizing ASEAN Blogger Festival 2013, I get the chance to experience all that Solo has to offer like the Sukuh Temple, Sangiran Early Man Site, Mangkunegaran Palace and maybe Pasar Triwindu if time permits.
