Wednesday Crucifixion is a short book of about 40 pages. Although despite the length of this book George L. Miller addresses heavily debated theological issues. This book gives the account of Jesus’ last days on earth before he was taken to cavalry and to the day that he was resurrected. Miller takes scriptures straight from the Bible to plead his case on what he believes took place just over 2000 years ago. In the second chapter of Wednesday Crucifixion, Miller addresses a commonly mistaken day to what he believes is the Saturday before the crucifixion. He explains that people get these dates confused because of the way that it is written in the Bible. He then goes on to reveal that circumstances are grouped together because of common themes and common subject matters. This then does not mean that they are chronological. Miller goes into details of such to prove his point and backs it up with scripture to seal his case of the scenarios.

One thing I loved about this book is some of the scientific apologetics that were interwoven within the chapters. Chapter seven is the chapter that is speaking of Jesus’ crucifixion. He speaks of the darkness that was over the land and how people who read the scriptures now believe that it was an eclipse that just happened to be on the day of his death, nothing else. But he proves that it was more than that by pointing out that the Passover was on the fourteenth of the month, and how the month started with a new moon. This means that on the fourteenth, the moon would have been full, leaving it impossible for the moon to be in the middle and occlude the sun. Things such as this are indicated in Miller’s book, which can strengthen the reader’s faith or just might be enough to break through an unbeliever’s walls of apprehension.

“Mary of Bethany Understood,” is a short book about the woman in the Bible who wiped Jesus’ feet with her hair after anointing his head and feet with expensive perfume. This is also the same Mary who sat at Jesus’ feet soaking up every word that she could like a sponge. This book by George Miller is an easy read that walks us through some of the circumstances that brought about the faith that Mary had in Jesus. In the very beginning Miller starts the book with a conversation between Martha and Lazarus, the siblings of Mary. He goes on to speak of what they might have heard them say if he were in the house on that day when she anointed the Messiah. Partially comical, yet probably very accurate as to what happened, Miller engages the reader off the bat.

Later in his book, Miller explains to the reader small tidbits of information that are incredibly important but many might have over looked the magnitude of. I, for one, have grown up in the church all my life and never saw the significance of the scripture. The scripture that I am speaking of specifically is that of when Jesus turned the water into wine. Wine could mean two things in the Bible, fermented wine and unfermented wine. Because the Law in the Old Testament demanded that the Priests not drink any fermented wine, that would mean that Jesus would not be able to since he was a the ultimate Priest. Also, the fact that it was new wine indicates that this had not been fermented and people would not have even had the opportunity to get drunk off of. It was like an epiphany when I read this as it all made sense with other scripture in the Bible! Many more things of this nature are explained in this book, as well has how Miller new that Mary knew what was about to happen to Jesus. She was one of only a few, if not the only one to fully understand what Christ must go through. As a short read, this is a must, as it will only enhance your knowledge of God’s word.

******This Review is by Angela Marie King.******

This book is an easy read; it is one that you would be able to fly all the way through, or one that you would be able to take your time on. Bible Lights is consumed with modern day proverbs backed with scripture and a wise man’s two cents from his years of going through life. Each chapter is only about a page and a half to two pages, enabling it to be a daily devotional, a book filled with teaching points, small group discussions and much more.

As I read the pages of this book, I could not help but notice the diverse reading styles. The wording of each chapter was well defined in that a newly born again Christian would be able to soak up and glean years of wisdom, yet it also has deep philosophical points that even a well seasoned Believer can pick up on and be able to grow in their walk. In one chapter, George Miller speaks of God, giants, and grasshoppers, and relates it back to the time of when the Israelites are trying to conquer the Promise Land. Miller speaks of how all the members of the scouts came back with negative reports, other than Joshua and Caleb. Life is like this: giants stand in our way as we feel like nothing more than grasshoppers, but it is God that makes us more than a six-legged creature that is only an inch big.

In another chapter, Miller relates Christ to the priests of old testament as they use to wear priestly garments that were specific to the bidding of the Lord. However, on the Day of Atonement the chief priest would enter the Tabernacle after he removed all of these glorious garments for when he stepped into the Holy of Holies. The significance of this is then revealed years later when we see our pure priest, our Savior who was thee sacrifice on the day of atonement, with nothing on that was glorious other than his sheer humility and love.

Bible Lights is filled with small but powerful topics such as these that again can strengthen anyone, young, old, wise or not in the ways of the Lord!

During the month of April my brother and I had written an Easter play as a fun thing to do for our church and community. With the script written we began rounding up people to be a part of the cast and crew and had three awesome show during Easter weekend. After the show we were asked by other churches if we could house the play in their building which brings us up to the topic of this devotion: selfishness.

Be Selfless!

So, this month we are ministering the play in a building that is entirely different then our own. My family and I who are in charge of set design had the challenge in creating almost an entirely different set including a backdrop and a life sized tomb. Oh, the tomb… The first time we made it, all we used was brown butcher paper and paint on the door way of a spare closet we had in our church and now we had to make a six by three life sized replica of the tomb with only about three days to build it. Normally something like this would take more than two weeks but three days!?! That’s insane. I think everyone was aggravated that day when we stayed up past midnight to glue, tape, staple and pin chicken wire, paste and aluminum baseboards together. I wanted to go to bed more than anything and I was so annoyed at the fact that I’m losing sleep over a tomb that was only going to be used for only about seven to ten minutes of the entire show. “Who needs a tomb anyway?” I thought as I held the postings in place. I didn’t realize at that point I was wrapped up in myself and what I wanted. I WANTED to go to bed. I WANTED to get that moment over with but I didn’t understand how much this tomb could aid someone in coming to Christ. I was selfish, and if it would have been my way a tomb wouldn’t have even been in the show this time. But it could be that very tomb that I stayed up to make that someone sees the reenactment of Jesus walking through it and it softens there heart. I felt terrible the next day and devoted myself into making the tomb the best tomb ever. Because we don’t know what God used to impact somebody, I truly believe that many things he uses are unexpected things like a smile, a song… or a tomb. Days like those makes me so much more aware on how selfish I am and how much more selfless I need to become. Today I challenge you (As I do myself!) to be in the pursuit of selflessness and become willing vessels for God to openly use.

In Psalm 33:12, “Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord.” This is the foundational verse for this year’s 61st Annual Observance of the National Day of Prayer happening on Thursday, May 3, 2012 with the theme, One Nation Under God.

America has been conceived as a nation by God through prayer from its people. Our founding fathers recognized God and the need to implore His wisdom, guidance and direction in making significant and crucial decisions for the nation. The National Day of Prayer is a special day for people from all walks of life, faiths, and backgrounds to come together and agree in prayer for the nation in its seven (7) centers of power – “Government, Military, Media, Business, Education, Church, and Family.”

The National Day of Prayer aims to call for people towards personal and corporate “repentance and righteousness in the culture” on the first Thursday of May and throughout the year amidst differing issues and positions. Part of its vision is “to mobilize prayer in America”, unite the Christian churches and preserve the Christian heritage of our country and its religious freedom.

In 1952, Pres. Harry Truman signed into law along with the joint resolution of the United States Congress the National Day of Prayer. To date, there were 59 Presidential Proclamations for a National Day of Prayer (1952-2011) and since 1775, about 965 state and federal calls for national prayer.

How can you participate in the National Day of Prayer?

You may visit their official website and coordinate an event in your church or ministry in line with their guidelines. Make sure to enlist your event there so that people near you will be aware of and can attend. Their website is full of tools and resources how to go about it.

If you cannot organize your own event, you may navigate the listing for an event in your area. There are lost of options how to get involved with this event like join their Facebook and Twitter pages, volunteer to become a prayer coordinator, subscribe to their weekly prayer tips, join the online community, solemn sacred assembly, young adult and student ministry, military ministry, 7×7 prayer, pray Thursdays, prayer planet, national prayer and leadership summit on October, adopt a leader, be educated with the drive thru history, use prayer wall application for iPhone users, and submit your prayer request.

Here is the National Day of Prayer YouTube video promo –

Let us know how you are observing and participating this National Day of Prayer. Remember that you can always approach God and pray to Him even if it is not the first Thursday of May. God wants us to pray unceasingly.

It was a warm and sunny day that afternoon when I was sent the complementary copy of the book I had just wrote. I had been working on the book since I was fifteen years old and now being seventeen, you can say it was long expected wait. When I actually held the book in my hands for the very first time, I actually cried because I really thought that day would never come. Fast forwarding to just two weeks ago my sister came to me confused on some parts of the book that she started on. ” I love the book and the characters, I’m just confused on some parts.” She told me flipping through her copy of On The R.E.A.L. When she began explaining what she didn’t get I immediately had to excuse myself to pray and ask God for forgiveness.

When writing the book, even before I typed one word on the computer I prayed that God would give me what to say. I know he has purposed me with a message to tell and I was prepared to do whatever I needed to, to get that message out. I was so determined to help teenage girls just like me get through the things I personally struggled with;but when I looked back at the book the key points that was supposed to be there, were not. I felt so disappointed in myself that I took out the very things God could have used to bring deliverance to someone hurting and because it didn’t sound good to me, I took it out. God has let me walk through a difficult situation of wondering why this happened and finally he spoke in allowing me to realize that when he gives you something to say or a message to tell. Tell it. Don’t be afraid to speak out because then it can lead to empty spaces and confusion. Someone could have needed that one part my sister found missing and because of fear, I didn’t want to walk out in it. If God gives you the words to speak, don’t second guess on if it’s good enough for people to accept.

Have you ever walked into a room and instantly sensed there was something wrong? Chances are there was. The atmosphere, when not referring to the gases that surround the earth, is defined as a mood or feeling. Thus, the mood within a room is dictated by what we think, how we act, and by the words we speak.

Satan controls the atmosphere around us, but only if we let him. He is constantly trying to deceive us by trying to influence us in negative ways. These influences can control your life. But why would you let them?

You can take control of the atmosphere where ever you are. Whether you’re at home, at work, in a store, anywhere, you have the authority to change the “air” around you.

So how do you do this? By praise and worship! Sing praises to God. Psalm 146 (NIV) Praise the LORD. Praise the LORD, my soul. 2 I will praise the LORD all my life; I will sing praise to my God as long as I live.

Whether it is out loud, or in a whisper, when you sing praises to the Lord, the enemy has to flee. Did you get that? Satan cannot stand to be in the same room when praises to God are spoken.

What does praise do?

Praise takes our minds off our problems and helps us focus on God.

Praise leads us from individual worship to group, as others join in the changing of the atmosphere. 2 Chronicles 5:13 (NIV Bible) 13 The trumpeters and musicians joined in unison to give praise and thanks to the LORD.

Praise helps us appreciate what God does for us.

Praise allows us to go from the natural to the heavenly.

The next time you feel heaviness within the air, change it. Put worship music on, sing along with it, or simply speak praises. Then watch how the atmosphere around you shifts from darkness to light, all by putting your praise on.

Times of Trouble is a new Christian fiction novel by Cliff Ball happening around Year 2037. The story revolves around the family of Brian Atwood, an FBI agent turned Secret Service personal security for the USA President Collins. Brian was married to Lynda for ten (10) years and had three children but the newly born baby was taken by the Health Administration because of his Down Syndrome.

The US government at this time has been setting rules, regulations and security measures for the nation and people. Babies with defects are either aborted or taken to an orphanage so that the government will not be burdened by the cost of supporting them.

President Collins abhors Christians and their beliefs, acting like an oversexed teenager, and making financial decisions blunders in the White House. Brian struggled relating with him and obeying his every whim especially at this time of re-election campaigns.

Until one day, Lynda became sick with stage 4 breast cancer and eventually died as the government only allows drugs to alleviate pain and no surgeries for advanced stages of sicknesses.

Collins lost the elections to President elect Massey but charged the latter with election fraud and then eventually declared Martial Law across the land. Brian was fired from his job because of His Christian beliefs after thorough background check.

Times of Trouble novel’s backdrop is on the End Times and all the other events leading to it. It is like a true story as most of the character sketches, circumstances, and plots are familiar and possible to happen in real life.

Honestly, this is the very first Christian fiction novel I have read and reviewed and I appreciate Cliff Ball’s heart to keep on stressing and repeating the importance of God, Bible, prayer, salvation, church, fellowship, close family ties, purity before marriage, and honesty about the character’s feelings and weaknesses.

I love the many prayers included in this novel and many times, at some point of the story, I can readily identify with the lines of the characters and the situations. Times of Trouble ministered to me greatly right now and it inspired me to keep the faith and never to give up in times of trouble knowing that the ending of everything—the world, mankind, and my own troubles are glorious when Jesus Christ returns on the earth and we will be raptured and caught up in the clouds at the trumpet blast.

Cliff Ball accepted Jesus in his heart at the age of five (5) as his mother witnessed to him and after two (2) years was baptized and now an Independent Baptist. He holds BA in English and BA in History but now taking Technical Writing Certificate from Univ. of North Texas.

His other works are:

Shattered Earth – a science fiction/historical fiction novel

Don’t Mess With Earth – a science fiction/alternate history novel

Out of Time – a time travel novel

The Usurper – a political thriller

Dust Storm – a western short story

Voyager & The Aliens – a short sci-fi story

New Frontier – alternate history/speculative fiction

Times of Trouble is Ball’s sixth novel and nominated for the 2012 Global Ebook Awards in Christian fiction.

Times of Trouble by Cliff Ball available in our christian bookstore.

Have Faith!

Countless sermons tell us to focus on Christ. Although our intentions are to do so, we quickly find that the world takes over. But if you take a second to really focus on His eyes, He will lead you to victory in your life.

Do this simple exercise – Stop for a moment and visualize Christ (I bet you have a smile on your face). Now keep His image in your mind and allow His eyes to lead you forward. It’s when we take our eyes off of Him that we falter.

Matthew 14:27-31 (Amplified Bible) 27But instantly He spoke to them, saying, Take courage! I AM! Stop being afraid! 28And Peter answered Him, Lord, if it is You, command me to come to You on the water. 29He said, Come! So Peter got out of the boat and walked on the water, and he came toward Jesus.30But when he perceived and felt the strong wind, he was frightened, and as he began to sink, he cried out, Lord, save me [from death]! 31Instantly Jesus reached out His hand and caught and held him, saying to him, O you of little faith, why did you doubt?

I have a friend who was recently told he had leukemia. But he refused to believe man’s diagnosis. He walked throughout the day visualizing Jesus and praising him often. When he had doubts, fed by the enemy, the Lord told him; walk forward and keep your eyes on mine. When he did, instantly joy and peace filled his heart and by the time new tests were run, his doctor pronounced him free of man’s diagnosis. Praise Jesus!

However you see Christ is up to you but I urge you to walk forward faithfully keeping your eyes on His. Distractions will come, and deceptions will surface, but if we refuse to turn our heads and focus on the Savior, we too can be victorious. The “eyes have it.” The question is will you do what it takes to see them?
