Sunglasses have been a popular fashion accessory since the 1940s. Today, they remain fashionable, but have the added purpose of blocking out harmful ultra violet rays. While adults have worn sunglasses for years, an emerging trend is sunglasses specifically designed for children and even babies. The current recommendation is that children under the age of ten should wear sunglasses when exposed to a significant amount of sunshine. So, why do babies new shades?

Preschoolers love doing jigsaw puzzles. There are puzzles that even a lot of two-year-old’s can put together. Recently I discovered a great new way to make puzzles fun for kids…put magnets on the back of the puzzle pieces and put them on the refrigerator!

Make a Food Guide Pyramid

Making a food guide pyramid is Requirement 3D for earning the Cub Scout Tiger Cub badge. If you search Google images you can find lots of blank pyramids and photos of food to choose from. I downloaded some and inserted them into two Word files. I made enough copies of the different types of food for five boys to participate in the activity. You can easily copy the images to make more, if necessary.

All About Nuts

Fall is a fun time to learn about squirrels and nuts. Today my boys attended a class at our children’s museum called “All About Nuts”.

First the teacher made sure no one had any nut allergies (very important!). Next she showed the children a variety of nuts and had them feel each nut and describe what they saw. She taught them the name of each nut. Each child got to bring home a small bag of nuts.

This week’s theme at library story time was fall leaves. The boys heard some cute stories about fall, and they made this fall tree craft. Of course they loved doing the craft because it involved putting their hands on an ink pad!
