My BB and I are celebrating our 6th Valentine's Day this year, and still counting. Tonight, no sweet chocolate, no flower bouquet, but just a simple little home-cooked dinner at home which delivers love, heart, and passion. Not to mentioned it was healthy, delicious and also cost-effective at the same time. I mean, who would have guessed that one could afford such wonderful meals for less than $30 only?!

It was pouring down so hard this afternoon but I insisted to go out cause first, I was already dressed up and second, I didn't wanna ruin my master plan to survey what to get for my BB tomorrow. Yes, Valentine's Day is just one day away from us!!! How excited! And I think I kinda have an idea of what gift I'll be giving to my beloved HIM. Ssshhh... I'm not gonna tell anyone... yet.

I've been spending a bunch of time in the kitchen lately, did a lot of cooking like Char Hor Fun, Bak Kut Teh, Sweet Potato Soup, Red Curry Prawns, yada yada yada, and the most recently, which was just this afternoon, I made Deep Fried Red Fermented Beancurd Chicken Wings (脆皮南乳鸡翅). First of all, I would like to wish everyone, "Happy Chap Goh Meh" and "元宵节快乐"!!! Time goes by and we have already came to the last day of Chinese New Year *heavy-hearted* Oh, did you (the single ladies out there) throw mandarin oranges into the sea today? As the Hokkien saying goes, “Dim kam, keh ho ang.” which literally means, “Throw a mandarin orange, marry a good husband." That is just a saying of course! No one has to believe or actually put it into practice. In my case, I did not throw any, yet still believing that I would marry a good husband someday *dreamy eyes* Anyways, my BB and I attended a dinner gathering with friends tonight and ordered 8 delicious dishes for a table of 12, plus 1 chubby little baby boy.

CNY Day 11: Dinner at Hong Kong Chinese Restaurant

As suggested by C.P., we came to Hong Kong Chinese Restaurant for dinner tonight. I know, I did not keep my words when I said I wanna wear red until the last day of Chinese New Year in my previous post. But it's totally understandable why I chose to wear polka dots instead, because... It's a cute little new top I got from Valley Girl this afternoon, simply as that ;p Another thing is, my friends and I all agreed that the waitresses here are somehow and somewhat still inexperienced in serving customers, in terms of etiquette and dining skills. What do you say?

Woah, another potluck gathering and potluck dinner with friends?! That's right, we enjoyed cooking, eating and hanging out together over the festive seasons. I believe everybody does, except the cooking and washing part which takes up a lot of time :p But it was all worth it, when we came to see a full table of lovely dishes prepared for the "Lou Sang" gathering dinner at Kevin and Veny's place that night.

CNY Day 2: Potluck with Friends

Nian Chu Er aka the second day of Chinese New Year, we had a fabulously delicious potluck dinner with friends at our place. I roughly thought about the menu in the afternoon and came to a conclusion that I should prepare dishes which I'm more familiar with - Deep Fried Pork Meat Balls and Hot & Sour Roasted Chicken Soup.

My initial plan was to prepare hot and sour steamed whole fish for this potluck dinner we attended on the first day of Chinese New Year. But, after spending the efforts to gather side ingredients and everything else which needed, we found out that the Supa IGA in Clifford Garden (our favorite place in town to get fresh whole fishes, crabs, and other seafood) was actually closing down with only very limited items left for sale. Therefore, ~~plane~~ plan crashed and burned... No steamed whole fish for the night, and definitely no more seafood and groceries shopping there in the future, yet still, the dinner must go on! So I came up with the idea of replacing the fish with prawns instead. In Hokkien we say, "Boh hu hae mah ho", which literally means, "If there are no fishes, prawns are just as good."

For the first time, I had steamboat / hotpot for reunion dinner on the Chinese New Year's Eve. My family usually prepare a variety of dishes which have similar sounding names with prosperity, good luck, wealth, and etc, but this year (5th year not celebrating with my family), it was something different from our tradition.

Campbell House's Il Bacaro Restaurant Penang

I thought Campbell House is the name of this restaurant we visited on the corner of Campbell and Cintra Streets of Georgetown, but I was wrong. I mistook the hotel's name as the Italian restaurant, Il Bacaro where my sis and I celebrated her bachelorette's party together with few of her close friends. It was more like a cozy dinner with girls talk.

Funday Sunday: Barbecue at Home

30 degrees under the steaming hot sun, my BB and I set up a mini barbecue on the balcony of our warm little home. I know it sounds ridiculously crazy, but we just couldn't resist the temptation. We got the portable barbecue set days before Christmas (as a little Christmas gift for two of us) and now it's time to put it to test!

New Year's Eve of 2011: Welcoming 2012

I guess this is kind of an official post of me greeting everyone, "Happy New Year!" On the 4th day of 2012?! I know, I'm random in a unique way or... unique in a random way :Þ The 10-minute fireworks display (spreading all over the big heart above) wowed thousands of people gathered a the Queens Park on the last night of 2011, including me and my BB. We spent the remaining few hours, no celebration, but just a casual dinner together.
