FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
BLOGGERS CREATE PRINT MAGAZINE FOR INDEPENDENT TRAVELLERS

Auckland, New Zealand, 18 August 2009 - Today Indie Travel Media Ltd officially announce the
launch of the Indie Travel Podcast Magazine, a print+digital publication for independent travellers.
The inaugural issue is available internationally from 1 September 2009 through subscription to the
printed edition and also online.

Need to know

Title: Indie Travel Podcast Magazine
Published: September 1st, 2009
Frequency: Quarterly (February, June, September, December)
Format: Flipbook and PDF (online); A5 booklet (printed)
Price: NZ$40 for a year’s subscription; NZ$9.50 + postage for single issue. Medium resolution PDF
and Flipbook are free to view online.
URL: http://indietravelpodcast.com/magazine
Short URL: http://su.pr/2UmnYS

Background

The Indie Travel Podcast has traditionally focused on cutting-edge new media publishing, especially audio downloads. It has grown to include travel video and stories on their Lonely Planet award winning site, http://indietravelpodcast.com.

In all its forms the Indie Travel Podcast caters for independent travellers, especially those planning or taking part in extended travel. The magazine allows themes to be treated in greater depth andbeautiful photography and graphic design to be showcased in a familiar format.

New media delivery mechanisms are still going to be used in distributing the magazine; especially the seldom used PDF functionality of iTunes. With an existing global audience of podcast listeners, the digital magazine can be instantly delivered.

For those tired of reading online or wanting something to read during takeoff and landing, the print subscription delivers sharp, high quality images and thoughtful writing in a practical A5 format. Beautifulphotography throughout means it will proudly grace any coffee table.

Bloggers and content

Three regular columns are introduced with well-known travel bloggers taking centre stage. Kim Mance tackles women’s travel; Erik McLaughlin talks health as the adventure doctor; and Christine Gilbert covers the digital nomad beat.

These regulars are joined by several other well-known bloggers. In addition to Craig and Linda Martin’s writing and photography, Tim Patterson and Ryan Libre have a feature on their time with the Kachin Independence Army in Burma; Ben Cooper writes on tapas in Seville with Debbie Dubrow supplying photos; Lola Akinmade provides a photo essay on Lagos; Kat Calvin explores Angkor Wat and the nightlife of Siem Reap; and Gary Arndt was interviewed about his round-the-world travels. Blog reviews form a special category with four sites coming under the Editor’s gaze this quarter. Blogging is a developing medium and this section highlights blogs with interesting writing and storytelling or other unique attributes. It is thought this will be a popular and rather unique department in current travel publishing.

Excerpts from the magazine are available at http://indietravelpodcast.com/magazine until September 1 when it will be replaced with the full issue.

The Indie Travel Podcast, Indie Travel Podcast Magazine and respective logos are trademarks of Indie Travel Media Ltd.
