Pattern is from モチーフクロシェの手編みこもの – ‘Motif Crochet (ISBN: 4056048797/ 9784056048797). Although I downsized it, my frame is smaller than the suggested size!

The name Okadaya is probably not new to any crafters, I’ve heard about it before I came to Japan and was eager to go and check it out!!

I wasn’t too impressed when I got there, the first floor was selling cosmetics= = I thought I went to the wrong place! (but nothing is too weird in Japan!)

The store is divided into two spaces, one dedicate for craft supplies, felt, yarns and accessories, and the other for fabrics!!! Since I didn’t have a sewing machine so I wasn’t too keen to check out the fabric section

After spending a good few hours there, I bought some supplies that I think I can use without a sewing machine hehe… See the sew-on purse frame, I’ve always wanted to try one!

I’ve been searching for a thimble for while and this is the first time I found one that fits me, Size S, awesome!! OK, i have small fingers

Needles and pins for knitting & crocheting! They have round tips, so won’t damage your yarns! I was planning to do more crocheting that’s why I got them^^

I got a few pieces of 50 x 30 cm fabric pieces from the patchwork section, I was thinking maybe I can do some hand sewing haha

I also got some yarns, but I forgot to take photos of them

Although I didn’t buy that much, the truth is being in a craft store and looking at all the creative stuff made me happy already!!^^

PS. I actually went to Okadaya 2 weeks ago haha what a late post!! And the good news is I have my sewing machine with me now!!! My boyfriend brought it over for me when he visited last week!!!^^ Happy~

There’s this Paper Museum near my place that I’ve been wanting to visit for some time~ I rushed out of bed as I knew that in weekends at 1pm, they offer postcard making classes for free! (as in included in entry fee of course)

I got there just in time! One of the staffs was explaining the process of recycling milk cartons to make paper! Not that I can understand all the Japanese that he was saying haha~

Apparently you need two days to prepare the pulp, so it was already prepared for us!

We all get to pick a mold (or do you call it a screen?) for our own postcard, and my pick is this one with the Paper Museum’s logo on it. The logo is the word paper (紙) in Chinese, which I think is perfect for a memorable handmade postcard! I also chose a red maple leaf and a origami crane shaped piece for decoration.

So here is how it goes..
Step 1: Pour sufficient amount of pulp water into the mold and then place the decorations (as in the maple leaf etc.) wherever you like, just push it slightly into the pulp.
Step 2: Drain.
Step 3: SQUEEZE water out of the “paper” with the help of a simple machine.
Step 4: Iron it dry and TA-DA handmade postcard completed!

After the class, I took a look around the museum. I was amazed by all the different cardboard stools & chairs there!! Very thoughtful!

Well worth the 300 Yen entry fee I’d say!

But I didn’t actually paid the 300 yen, instead I used this Grutt Pass Booklet which costs 2000 yen. It gives you access to 70 facilities in the Tokyo area! Pretty good value!

I first used this Grutt Pass when I visited Tokyo Sea Life Park (photo above). The Pass expires 2 months after first use though.

Tomorrow is public holiday (Respect Elders Day) in Japan, and I already have plans to visit more museums with a friend!

OK, just so that this post is slightly craft related, let me show you my ONLY recent work

The view is not exactly good. I live in some back streets and there is this printing factory next to my apartment, so it gets quite noisy as well…

This is a family drug store on the same street as my apartment~ Drug stores are everywhere in Japan, they sell everything from medicines to cleaning products, to cosmetics! I’m a regular

Power lines are also very common in Japan, which is something I didn’t expect from such an advanced country!

Anyways, you can already tell that I don’t live in the most exciting suburb in Japan.. hahahaha~ And here’s a photo of my room with minimal furnitures!

I’m attending Japanese language school everyday now, which takes up most of my time! I’m also doing freelance work but I hope I can find more time to craft and blog! It’s such a waste since craft supplies are so abundant here!
