A collection of photographs shot for the American Red Cross providing disaster relief after record-setting floods hit the Binghamton, New York region last month. Hundreds of volunteers from around the country provided sheltering, feeding and support to residents by offering comfort kits and clean-up supplies along with counseling. Above: Seven-week-old Mannaseh Ogembo, one of the thousands of evacuees who was staying along with his family at the American Red Cross shelter located on the campus of Binghamton University.

A discarded manger scene on a lawn juxtaposed with the girl’s arms is just one of those captured moments that makes a photograph. Residents started the recovery process by throwing out items from their flooded homes after record-setting floods hit the Binghamton, New York region last month. The American Red Cross provided disaster relief activities, including sheltering, feeding and support to residents by offering comfort kits and clean-up supplies.

Off the coast of Maine, there are a series of three small islands simply called Brothers, with only one “tree” among them. That tree, a spruce, never seems to get any bigger, I assume due to the weather conditions. It has been photographed and painted by artists for decades. Every year, upon returning to the coast, I scan the horizon to hopefully find that the tree survived another year.

I Can’t Believe it…

Just finished shooting a local PGA event for the 34th year. Some players are really hard on themselves, as is Champion Tour player Hal Sutton reacting to his missed birdie on the 16th during the second round of the Dick’s Sporting Goods Open on Saturday, June 25, 2011, at En-Joie Golf Club in Endicott, NY.

Something about the light. The red from the stage lighting, the white under the tents, and the blue twilight makes this photo of the crowds at a Maroon 5 concert work. The concert was part of the Dick’s Sporting Goods Open last week in Endicott, NY.

Cover shot and opening spread for Biomass Power & Thermal magazine for a feature on the development of  a large-scale biomass gasification operation in Orange County , NY. It sure pays to plan your shoot. I really needed a sunny day for the blue sky. I scheduled the shoot on the only clear day we’d had for the month.

Recently edited the above photo with Nik Software , using their VIVEZA® 2 plug-in to work on the image. WOW, now it isn’t a chore to make editing adjustments with all of those selections and  layer-masks in Photoshop. Using the sliders in Nik’s “U Point” control system, making adjustments is a breeze, including the fine-detail structure control,  now available in the latest version.
