Some of the most exciting events in Southaven, MS for apartment residents are attending concerts. This May you don’t want to miss Miranda Lambert’s On Fire tour at the Landers Center with Chris Young, Jerrod Niemann and a special appearance by the Pistol Annies May 18 at 7:30 p.m.

Miranda Lambert is a two-time CMA female vocalist of the year with nominations this year for CMA awards such as Album of the Year. The latest release ‘Four the Record’ is her fastest selling record so far, recently gone gold.

Opening for Miranda is country singer Chris Young, winner of Nashville Star. Chris won the 2011 American Country Award for Breakthrough Artist of the Year as well as Single of the Year for his single “Voices.” With 3 albums, and multiple singles Chris Young is one of country’s rising stars.

Jerrod Niemann is an American country singer songwriter who co-wrote “Good Ride Cowboy” for Garth Brooks, which won a Broadcast Music Incorporated award for one of the most played country songs in 2005. Now chasing his own singing career Niemann is joining the country world of singers. You don’t want to miss this exhilarating show!

One of the rewards of your apartment lifestyle is the ability to easily get up and go to the great attractions in the Southaven, MS area. For apartment residents who love music, including the big-name headliners at the Snowden Grove Amphitheater. You won’t want to miss these concerts this summer!First up on June 19 is the Gang of Outlaws Tour. This tour brings Rock and Roll Hall of Famers ZZ Top to the Snowden Grove, along with alternative rock’s 3 Doors Down and singer Gretchen Wilson.

The following night, June 20, Daughtry brings his Break the Spell Tour 2012 to the Amphitheater’s stage, along with guests Safetysuit and Mike Sanchez.

On June 28, get set for the Own the Night 2012 World Tour of Lady Antebellum. This Grammy-winning group shares the stage with Thompson Square and Darius Rucker.

Brad Paisley puts in an appearance on August 17. Other performers on the Virtual Reality World Tour 2012 include The Band Perry and Easton Corbin.

They are a bonded pair, mother and son, so will need a home where they can stay together. Majesty is about 1 1/2 yrs and Wrangler is about 7 months old. They are both fully vetted and heartworm negative. These 2 were rescued, along with another, from a field in Memphis, where they had been living for at least 8 months. Wrangler has never had any human contact until a few months ago and is a little shy at first but will gain trust quickly. They are good with other dogs provided the introduction is done slowly. ‘Greetings to all! My name is Clifford, and I am also called Big Red. I am 5 years old and am a Golden Retriver/Collie mix. I am very gentle and loving. However, because I have hip dysplasis in only one hip, I am considered ‘special needs’ and should not be adopted into a home with small children. Also, I do better as an ‘only dog’ because I do not like for other dogs to bump up against me. I have been on meds for anti-inflammation and for pain, but currently I am not taking any meds as I have been doing very well without them in my foster home.

I am an ‘owner surrender’ to the Memphis Animal Shelter, where I was soon to be put to death due to their lack of space. I am a GREAT dog and did not deserve that ending to my life. I was rescued by a DARS member and her friend while they were touring the shelter, and I am so blessed that they saw me and bailed me out. I was so happy and excited to get out of that place, so I ran to the car with no difficulty and jumped into the car.

I am neutered and am current on all my shots and am heartworm negative. I am on the monthly heartworm prevention meds. The adoption donation/fee partially reimburses DARS for my expenses.

I am housebroken and a 100% indoor doggie except when I go outside to potty and for short periods of exercise in a safe, enclosed fenced in back yard. I am also leash trained and do enjoy short walks.

This treasure is lil Miss Dixie. They don’t come any happier, more playful or loving than this boxer mix. She’s 40lbs at about 9 months, so still may fill out a little more. She can be calm and sweet, but is happiest rough housing with her foster brother, Benny! She also gets along well with other dogs in the house and even her foster’s cat.

She is up-to-date on all vaccinations, is heartworm negative and on preventative. She’s spayed and ready for her forever parents to find her and give her the loving, wonderful home she deserves.

Penny is incrediably sweet, loves to talk and be held. She warms up to a person quickly, ‘I had only had her for two hours and she was like another leg,’ says her foster parent. She likes to play gets along with other dogs her size, but is intimidated by larger dogs.

Penny is a little overweight, but that is likely due to the advanced age of her former person. A little exercise should do wonders. She is spayed and current on all of her vaccinations.

Enjoy the Warm Weather By Getting Active at Church Lake

Play a game of volleyball at Church Lake!

Now that the warmer temperatures are starting to make their appearance, it’s a great time to get outside and enjoy all that our Church Lake apartment community has to offer. We have many resort-style amenities for our residents to take advantage of, so get out there and get active!

If you want to get a group of friends together on a Sunday afternoon, our sand volleyball court is the place to be. You can bump, set and spike your way through the afternoon with a little friendly competition. Our tennis court is also a place where you can grab a friend and have an exciting match.

If team sports aren’t really your style, but you still like the physical activity, you could swim a few laps in our sparkling pool or hit the Fitness Center. We are currently in Phase I of resurfacing our pool and we are also getting new pool furniture to accommodate our resident better.

MoMA’s Next Destination Design Country: Mexico!

You might remember the MoMA Store featuring designs from countries such as Finland, Japan, Brazil and Portugual a few years ago. Well, this time it’s Mexico’s turn! On April 26th, MoMA will launch the tenth edition of its Destination: Design program, featuring contemporary design from Mexico. The selection includes over 150 products including tableware, small furniture items, jewelry and paper goods, that will be available at the MoMA design store for a limited time (April-June, 2012).

Get Your Tickets for the Beale Street Music Festival Before They Sell Out!

A great thing about living in Southaven, Mississippi is being able to enjoy many of the small town charms while also having all that Memphis has to offer only a 20 to 30 minute drive away. If you’re a fan of live music, you’ll definitely want to make the trip to Memphis for the Beale Street Musical Festival May 4-6 at Tom Lee Park which is only about 20 minutes from our Church Lake apartment community.

This festival will feature 65 musical artists including Jane’s Addiction, My Morning Jacket, Florence + The Machine, Wiz Khalifa, Lupe Fiasco, Herbie Hancock, Cold War Kids and many more. In addition to three days and multiple stages of an eclectic mix of contemporary rock, blues, soul and modern talent, you can also expect refreshing beverages and yummy food to fill your stomach.

Pay a Visit to the Vietnam Traveling Memorial Wall this May in Southaven

With the coming of spring also comes the many fun activities like water parks opening up, nature walks, seeing the blooming flowers and much more. Spring also brings the Memorial Day holiday which means picnics, barbecues, pool parties and even a day off of work for some people.

However, it’s important to remember the reason for Memorial Day, a holiday to remember all of those Americans who have fallen in the act of service to our country. The acts of duty that these soldiers have performed have helped to secure the freedoms that we Americans have.

This May, a great event will take place in Southaven where citizens can take some time to visit loved ones that they wouldn’t necessarily have been able to visit by traveling to Washington D.C. It’s called the Vietnam Traveling Memorial Wall and it’s coming to the LANDERS Center (less than a mile from our Church Lake community) May 10 through 14. According to sodesoto.com:

This three-fifths scale, v-shaped replica wall is 6-feet tall at the center and almost 300-feet long. It lists more than 58,000 Americans who fell in the Vietnam conflict from 1959 to 1975 and stands as a reminder of the great sacrifices made during the Vietnam War.
