Here it is, my Prime Purchases. I had 2 people ask me last week when my next PP would be posted. They said they were looking for Christmas gift ideas. So, perhaps something here will "fit the bill" for someone on your gift list. I'm thinking of getting back to doing my "Favorite Things" post as well. I'm a big fan of Skechers and find them very comfortable and their price point is generally really good. These come in 4 colors and are all so cute but I chose this one. I love dressier looking sneakers.

If you are looking a lightweight jacket/sweater then look no more. This is the perfect piece and comes in lots and lots of colors. It is three quarter sleeved and bolero style. It is the perfect companion to a sleeveless top or dress. It is very lightweight, so you would need a jacket or coat in addition on a cold winter day. And, a real plus, it is very affordable.

If you are like me and are not blessed with the ability to arrange flowers, then you need this. I use it for flowers I pick up at the grocery store and it is so cute. It would make a great gift too. ~just sayin'~

SMALL CANISTER WITH LID

I've been looking for some oil rubbed bronze canisters for my cream and sugar to go at my coffee bar. Well, this is advertised as a cotton ball/Q-tip holder but it works great at my coffee bar and is so good looking. It is plenty big.

And, my new canisters look so nice sitting on this tray at my coffee bar. I had to do some searching and looking but I am very happy with the new look I created. This tray is so pretty and would be lovely used to serve from as well. It is 13.5 inches in diameter, a very nice size.

Okay, ladies, these cropped trench jackets seem to be "all the rage." And, if you find them in a boutique, you might pay 3 times what this one cost. It is a higher price item even on Amazon but it is so good looking. It comes in some great colors and can be dressed up or down. It's so cute with jeans. Check it out gals!

LIGHTED MAKEUP MIRROR

I was in dire need of a bigger travel mirror. Now, this is NOT a travel mirror but it is going to be used as one. I have a travel mirror and it no longer cuts it for me and my close up vision. So, I found a bag that fits it and I will carry it in that bag by itself. Now, when we fly somewhere I'll have to rethink and perhaps figure out a way to get it in my luggage. It is a very nice mirror and works with batteries or plugs in. Suit yourself. Would be a great gift.

I'm pretty sure I have mentioned these scarves/wraps before, but, they are worth mentioning again. They are so, so pretty and I needed 3 thank you gifts and decided on these. They come in so many color combinations and can elevate a look real quickly. Grab one for yourself or as a gift.

MINI CORDLESS LED LAMP

Do you have a small area that could use a little more light. Well this lamp is the perfect solution. I am using mine on a book shelve where I wanted a small lamp but did not want a tacky cord. It is rechargeable and a charge lasts a long time. There are 3 levels of lightening, dim, medium and bright. Operates from a touch button on the base. A very nice decorative touch.

It's been a couple of months since I shared any of my Prime Purchases but here are a few of my recent purchases. Since Christmas is just around the corner, you might find something to use as a gift for someone on your list. Hope you enjoy!

Glass Vases in Metal Stand

I have a sweet neighbor and friend that always has a big bed of zinnias. She shares with me frequently and I wanted a quick, easy and attractive way to display them. This is so cute and can be used for most any flower. I have zero talent when it comes to arranging flowers so this is perfect for me. It takes no talent, just put whatever flower you desire in the vases and it looks like a pro did it. And, it would make a great gift. They come with colored glass vases as well.

Grout and Tile Cleaner with Scrubber Brush

Can I just say that cleaning our large ceramic tile shower is not on my list of favorite things to do. Over the 10 years we have lived here I have tried more cleansers than the law allows, the ones you spray on and rinse off, the ones you spray on and leave on overnight and everything in-between. A friend recommended this set and I'm a big fan of Fuller Brush products and decided to give it a try. I think I like it better than any cleaner I have used thus far. You spray it on, leave about 15 minutes or so, use the long handled scrub brush and then rinse. The brush head is on a swivel so that really makes it much easier to use.

Dry Eye Relief

If you have chronic dry eyes like I do, you might be interested in these drops. A friend told me about these and they have worked well for me in-between using my prescription drops morning and night. They are single dose but I get two uses out of each vial. It seems that dry eyes go right along with aging (hate to say that). It is such an aggravating condition but, it's not life threatening so I can certainly live with it.

Crossbody Bag

My purses are generally huge and heavy. Guess you might say I have everything except the kitchen sink in them. So, I use a crossbody such as the one above to take with me shopping or running errands. It's big enough to hold my billfold, lipstick caddy, keys and reading glasses. I leave my "big" purse in the floor behind the drivers seat should I need something out of it. This comes in 15 different colors with the cutest straps and I love that it has an outside slip pocket for your phone.

I've never been a big fan of flats but in recent years they have been so popular and I think they are so cute when I see them on another lady. So, I decided that I needed to give them a try. These are on big time sale right now and that made it all the better. I am so use to heels of some sort or platforms but I really like these and they are very comfortable so I may soon be a fan of flats.

FLAUS Electric Flosser

Folks, I have a small fortune invested in my teeth and flossing is not an option for me nor should it be for anyone. But, I hate flossing. I'm always looking for an easier way and I HAVE found it in this electric flosser. Oh, my goodness, this is the coolest and, for me, the easiest way to floss and, might I add, it's "almost" fun to floss with this. ~chuckle~ And, it's so much neater than a water flosser. ~just sayin'~

How is it June 30th? I mean, didn't we just celebrate Christmas? Truly, time is flying by and as so many say, the older we get, the quicker it flies. But, for now, I'll share with you my recent Prime "finds" and we'll not think about how quickly the days are going by. Hope you enjoy!

SKECHERS WEDGE. SLIP ON

I love a wedge slip-on and these are just too cute! And, I have several pair of Skechers and like them a lot. I got these more with fall and winter in mind but went ahead and got them as I was afraid they might not be available then. There are a couple other color choices as well.

Hydrating Spray

I need to use lotion after I shower due to skin dryness. I get so tired of applying it and thought I'd give this hydrating spray a try. It is great and, for me, a much quicker way to moisturize my skin.

If you've been hanging around my blog for long then you know I LOVE to bake. And, I'm always looking for cute containers to bake in or package my baked goods in. These are the cutest way to bake little mini cakes and they make a nice individual serving. I've used them twice for cake and once for brownies. I only fill them half full for brownies and a little past half for cake. After the cake rises during baking there is still plenty of room for icing and then you can cover it with the neat lid that comes with them.

I have a love affair with vacuum cleaners.~chuckle~ This one is so handy to grab for narrow spaces, such as in and around car seats, furniture cushions and the such. It has a nice array of attachments. I generally just use the crevice attachment.

AUTOMATIC CARD SHUFFLER

Okay, if you need a card shuffler, look NO further. I have owned 2-3 automatic shufflers over the years and none of them worked as they should. Cards would get hung up and it was very frustrating. I decided to look for a new one and when I saw the reviews for this one I decided to give it a try. It is awesome! And, it's rechargeable and works like a charm and is quick as lightening. It will shuffle up to 2 decks at a time. The gran girls and I play a lot of cards and they put their stamp of approval on it the first time they used it.

BAGGALLINI GO BAGG

I call this my "shopping purse." It isn't big enough for all the stuff that I carry in my much bigger purse, but it is plenty big enough for all I need when shopping or running errands. And, I generally will put my bigger purse in the car on the floor behind my seat, just in case I need something out of it. This is such a cute bag and goes with everything. It comes in several colors and is so lightweight.

24" ARTIFICIAL BOXWOOD WREATH

Since we moved in this house almost 10 years ago I have not hung a wreath on our door. We have a large iron ornate door that I felt didn't really need a wreath. Plus, I didn't want to have to store wreaths from season to season. Well, fast forward to now. I decided that a simple green wreath with a sash to match the season might be a good look for our door. So, I ordered this faux boxwood wreath. It is lush and beautiful and I will only change the sashes with the seasons, thus, no need to store a wreath. The sashes will co-ordinate with the pillows on the benches on the porch. These wreaths come in various sizes. I chose the 24" as our door is very big.

These are such great pillow covers and comes in an array of colors. These are the covers I use for summer on my front porch. I use 22" pillows as they are larger and really make a nice statement from the road.

And, neck scarves are making a come back. This package of solid colors will likely cover any need you might have for a neck scarf. They are especially nice if you are wearing a top with a design and not a solid color. They are a "satiny" fabric and are such a fun accessory. And, so inexpensive.

I know, I know, I've been MIA for a while but thought I'd do a Prime Purchase entry for all those of you that have missed them. It seems to be a favorite of many, and I do enjoy sharing my "finds" with you because they may resonate with you as they did with me. I keep thinking I'll get back to regular blogging as well but.......... Perhaps that will happen in the not so distant future, but, for now, I'll try to keep up the Prime Purchase entries.

OSTRICH FEATHER DUSTER

I do love our high ceilings but, dusting/cleaning the ceiling fans , door facing tops, tops of window facings, etc. You get the drift. This duster is GREAT! Is it as good as a cloth that I would use with my hands? NO! But, it's as good as it's going to get around here. Ladders are out of the question at this point for sure, so I'm more than happy with the results of this dandy feather duster that extends to the length I need. AND, it's lightweight, another good thing.

Some of our outdoor furniture was in need of new cushions this spring. In the past, Amazon has had little to no selection. But, this year, they have all kinds of choices in all sizes and patterns. They no longer have this pattern in stock but they have several other choices in stock. They are so well made and are in the weather/sun resistant fabric. We are very pleased.

Who doesn't love a denim jacket? This one is so cute and I do love the frayed hem. I end up wearing a jacket even in the hottest of months because so many places I go are so cold on the inside. Every so often I need/want a hot glue gun. My granddaughter had this one and it is the "bees knees." I mean, it's cordless and who has time for a bothersome cord on a hot glue gun. It is so easy to use, heats up extra fast and I think they are a great item to have on hand.

RETAINE EYE DROPS

I've decided that if you are over 55 you likely have issues with dry eyes. Goodness, it is so aggravating and I'm always looking for the next "best thing" when it comes to drops. I have a prescription drop but these seem to be even better. They come in vials and I get three uses out of each vial. One of my sweet friends told me about these and I'm so glad.

ADJUSTABLE SHEPHERD'S HOOK

If you have a heavy hanging basket that you want to hang on a Shepherd's Hook then this "bad boy" is exactly what you need. We like to hang baskets of asparagus ferns in our flower beds. They can be a bit heavy and cause a regular Shepherd's Hook to lean and that looks so tacky and aggravates me too death. I knew they had to make some for heavier baskets and sure enough they do. The 5 prongs keep it level and it is made of heavy duty metal. Again, Amazon to the rescue!

JERGENS NATURAL GLOW SELF TANNER

I've likely shared this awesome find before but it's worth repeating. This is the BEST self tanner I have ever used and believe you me, I've tried way too many of them. This comes in Fair to Medium and Medium to Dark. It is creamy, applied with your bare hands, dries quickly and afterwards you have a very natural tan glow. It provides me with the perfect natural looking tan and it's only $10 a tube that will last a very long time. A small amount goes a long ways. Give it a try!

SEMI-CIRCLE CUSHION FOR OFFICE CHAIR

I have a wonderful office chair in our home office. BUT, the seat is too deep and I've tried several "make shift" solutions to no avail. Again, I began browsing Amazon and ran across this very odd looking pillow configuration. The best part, for me, it WORKS! The whole concept is genius. It supports me from my lower back up through my shoulders. Win! Win! I can't imagine how someone's mind worked to design something such as this ~ just sayin'

January and February Prime Purchases

I must first apologize for not having a January Prime Purchase. Some of you have asked me about it and I just couldn't seem to get it together. I came down with the flu on Christmas Eve and it pretty much ruined my Christmas. I was a sick puppy, as sick as I have been in a very long time. That set me back and I was so behind on several things that a Prime Purchase post was on the bottom of my list. ~just being honest~

But, I am excited to share a "double doozie" with you today and I'll try not to let that happen again. I was thrilled to find that many of you really enjoy this post and often see an item that you add to your cart as well. I enjoy recommendations too, so I'm happy I can recommend some of my "finds" to you as well.

JEWELRY BOX

First, let me just say that I am NOT a fan of jewelry boxes. I probably haven't had one in 40-50 years. But, I decided a couple of months ago that I wanted "something" to put my nicer fashion jewelry in. I have stored my jewelry in the smaller, various size bead bags for years. That protects it and keeps the necklace, bracelet and earrings all together and I never have to hunt to find matching pieces. And, it makes grabbing it when we travel "easy peasy." This box has worked beautifully for my nicer pieces. They are protected, easily seen and it holds a lot. And, it's so attractive and comes in several colors. So, if you are looking for a nice jewelry box, I highly recommend this one.

I have 2-3 pair of Lucky Brand ankle boots but I did not have a brown pair. Now, I do. They are the perfect height and very comfortable.

I was in need of a new electric toothbrush when I saw my dentist in December. She recommended this one and I really like it. One charge lasts for probably a month and it recharges very fast. It comes in white and this rose gold.

NATURAL ACACIA SLIDING APPLIANCE TRAY

The appliance pull tray I have used for years finally "bit the dust" recently. As I was browsing looking at what was available, I ran across this one. It was exactly what I wanted and needed and it is so attractive. I love Acacia wood and this works so smoothly pulling my coffee pot in and out from under the cabinet. It's super sturdy too, no wobble whatsoever.

MICROFIBER MOP PADS

Our entire house has hardwood floors (ceramic in bathrooms) and when you have wood floors there are times you have to have a dust mop. I have one of the old fashioned dust mops but I much prefer these smaller pads that fit right on to a Swiffer mop head. I use them under furniture, behind doors and places hard to reach with a vacuum cleaner. I really think these are superior to a vacuum cleaner as they grab dust and cob webs so much better. I love the way they clean!

CREVICE CLEANER BRUSHES

I'm sure by now you have figured out that I LOVE anything that makes cleaning easier and more thorough. I saw these brushes and was sure I had a need for them. They are especially great around the base of a commode, and ceramic tile. I'm sure I'll find more uses the longer I use them.

PROTEIN INFUSED WATER

In recent years I have really become aware of how important protein is in our daily diets. I'm always looking for easy ways to get protein and this protein infused water hit the spot. I have not seen it in any stores in our area so, of course, I went straight to Amazon and there is was. I first saw it on Tick Tock. I was a bit concerned that I would not like the taste but I like it very much. It comes in a variety pack and a peach/mango pack. I love peach and mango so that's the flavor I went with and I drink at least one a day and one bottle has 15 grams of protein. The down side is that it is a bit pricey.

NON-SLIP HANGERS FOR SWEATERS

I may have featured these before because this is my second time to order them. They are the absolute best hanger for sweaters and heavy knits. They prevent hanger indentions on the shoulders and nothing can slide off of them. I love them!

IRONING BOARD COVER

I cannot remember the last time I've had a new ironing board cover but it's been wayyy toooo looong. My old one had definitely seen better days. Of course, I immediately went to Amazon and began browsing and what a selection they had. I thought this was an attractive print and would make me happy as I iron, so I ordered it and am so pleased. It comes with a pad and the fit was perfect!

In closing.........And, for those of you that haven't heard, my precious Daddy went to be with Jesus last Wednesday night. He began going downward over the weekend and on Monday, January 27th, he was hospitalized. It was downhill from there until he drew his last breath on Wednesday evening. My youngest brother and his wife arrived Tuesday afternoon and he and I had some very precious moments with Daddy that we both will treasure forever. I'll be trying to find my new "normal" since I've been the overseer of his care for the past 14 years. It will be so different but I rejoice in his homegoing as he is enjoying a glorious reunion. in his new body with eyes that can now see.

I saw a Tic Toc reel about this floor cleaner that not only cleaned but had a great scent as well. And, I'm a sucker for all things in the cleaning catagory. I use this in my battery operated mop and I am very pleased with the result. I use 1/3 cleaner and 2/3 water. It doesn't streak my wood floors and the house smells fresh and clean afterwards.

FIRE STICK

It has taken us a while, but we are in the process of setting up YouTube TV on all our TV's and doing away with cable. Our local cable service leaves so much to be desired and leaves us so frustrated. My brother and his wife were here a couple of weeks ago and set us up with YouTube TV on our main TV and we've been so pleased. All of our TV's are smart but some are not smart enough to have apps, thus, the Firestick. It enables them to have apps and for us to put YouTube TV on them. It works off of WiFi and, unlike our cable, our WiFi is great. So, looks like we are joining the forces of streaming TV.

I have been using cork trivets for years and years. I think they are the best! They aren't heavy, they have a surface that holds dishes in place and they come in an abundance of shapes. And, they make a very nice gift and one that's useable.

The Wednesday Hodgepodge

It is so good to be participating in the HP this week. It seems to be a rarity for me but I always enjoy answering Joyce's questions when I can work it in to my schedule. I wish I could be as faithful to the blogging world as Joyce but, hey, I'm here today.

1. What are your current priorities in this season of life? Elaborate as much or as little as you like.

Wow! somedays I think it's just keeping things "between the ditches." Other days, it's being the best ME I can be and I'd love to say that I'm doing a great job of that, but........... And, more than ever I desire to live a life pleasing to the Lord and making a difference in the lives of those I come in contact with daily. I think when I reached the age of 70 my priorities took on new meaning. I have way more years behind me than ahead of me (yikes!) and I want every day to count.

2. What's one thing you wish you had more of?

The first thing to come to mind is time with our daughter and her family in Oklahoma. But, I am so thankful that we do see them at least 4 times a year and we talk absolutely EVERY day and then, there is Facetime. Even the little boys know how to pick up a phone or Ipad and use Facetime. Such a wonderful perk when lots of miles separate families.

3. Do you celebrate Halloween? If so, what are your Halloween traditions? Any special plans for Halloween this year?

It's been many a year since we actually celebrated Halloween. When the children were young, they enjoyed dressing up and going around the neighborhood trick or treating. And, thankfully, that was absolutely safe to do 40 years ago. We also went to the Fall Festival at their school. We've never been into the scary aspect of Halloween but into the fun of Halloween. I have two huge lighted Jack O'Lanterns on our front porch and that's about as celebrated as we'll be. We have no particular plans this year but will have some candy should we have any trick or treaters drop by.

4. Last thing you ate that contained chocolate? Last thing you made that called for chocolate?

I usually have a small bag of seasalt caramel light and dark chocolate candies. I enjoy a couple a day. It's my guilty pleasure. ~chuckle~

It has been several weeks ago but the last thing I used chocolate in was a batch of brownies. I use a recipe I've had for over 40 years and they are, without a doubt, the best brownies you've ever put your "chompers" in.

5. Do you prefer laid back weekends or do you like to have a lot of plans? Thinking back to this past weekend... which was it?

Most of our weekends at this point are fairly laid back and we enjoy it that way. We do enjoy plans and generally have some plans, but just not overloaded. Now, this past weekend we were at our daughters in Oklahoma and it was indeed a packed weekend.

We were in Oklahoma last week to attend Bridget's Doctoral defense this past Friday. It was quite impressive and she did an outstanding job and at the end was deemed, Dr. Bridget Broome. It was a long 4 1/2 year journey, all while being wife, mom to 3 boys and teaching at Oklahoma State University. I found the mug shown above on Etsy and knew she had to have it.~smile~

Daddy update: Daddy is doing quite well, all things considered. He came through the Bronchitis and seems to be getting stronger. He's walking more with his walker trying to keep his legs strengthened. He is often confused but still able to have a good conversation, for which I am thankful. I still have caregivers with him and they have become like family. His 95th birthday is on Nov. 9th and my brother and his wife from Des Moines will be flying in to join in the celebration.

UPDATE ON DADDY

Daddy enjoying a little time outside a couple of weeks ago.

Well, until last Thursday, Daddy had made great progress. He hasn't complained of any pain or discomfort in over a month and was getting stronger. He can still have bouts of confusion but had made good stride. But, on Thursday, he complained of a sore throat and by Friday he had signs of chest congestion and started running a low grade temp. I've had the sitters give him OTC meds and Tylenol and he hasn't gotten any worse but not really any better. So, I will be in touch with his Doctor today and seek her advise. I'm pretty sure it's bronchitis as he generally has it at least once a year. He seems to take two steps forward and one step backwards. Hopefully he will beat whatever this is and be on the road to regaining his strength once again.

September Prime Purchases and Daddy Update

Well, here we are, September 2nd. We will not turn around twice and Christmas decor will be in every store and I am not ready for that. But, for now, I'll share my prime purchases with you this month. I did not have a lot of time for Amazon in August (more about that at the end of the post) but, here's what I did find.

I don't know who designed expandable hoses but KUDOS to them! What a genius idea! They make life sooooo much easier. We have about 3-4 at the various outside faucets. The one near the back porch got a hole in it, so we ordered this one to replace it. I never mind using one of these because they are so easy to put away. If you have never had one, you need one.

AIRPOD PRO 2 CASE

I am a big user of Air Pods and just recently got the new Airpod Pros 2. And, of course, that calls for a new case for them. Yes, they come in a case but this serves as protection. I put my pods in as soon as I get out of the shower in the mornings and then start Audible. And, I wear them a lot when I am home as I can talk on the phone and never miss a beat. I DO NOT wear them outside the house. I think it is tacky when folks have them in their ears while they are out and about. ~just my opinion~

2-PACK VEHICLE ASSIST HANDLE

Okay folks, it seems that a lot of the newer cars do not have the grab handles over by the windshield. These are most helpful to someone that has difficulty getting in an SUV. I just got a new SUV and I couldn't believe it didn't have a grab handle by the windshield. It has one above where the door opens but that is not always convenient. SO, saw these on a video the other day and they were in my cart before "quick could get ready." They fit in the vehicles U shaped door lock and make the perfect assist for getting in the vehicle. I don't know that my Daddy will ever be able to get in my vehicle again but, if he does, these will be a lifesaver. They are easy to put in and remove and then throw them in the glove compartment for the next time.

As I mentioned above, I had more to be concerned about in August (and still do) than shopping on Amazon. I mentioned a couple of weeks ago that my precious Daddy had taken a terrible fall back on August 10th. He fell in his bathroom on the ceramic floor and broke his shoulder blade, cracked 3 ribs and has 3 fractures in his lower spine. Just awful!!! About a week after the fall he had to be hospitalized for treatment. He was very anemic, dehydrated and very, very confused. He received IV fluids, 2 pints of blood, pain meds and a lot of TLC. I was able to secure some awesome caregivers to assist me with his care and they are still with me from 7:00AM - 8:00PM. He manages during the night with the aide on duty checking on him about every hour. He was hospitalized for 4 nights and my youngest brother flew in to assist with his needs during that time. He was a lifesaver! Daddy is back at the assisted living facility and is doing fairly well, some days are better than others. He seems to be getting less confused and forgetful but still has to have assistance with most everything. It has been an emotional roller coaster for sure. But, the Lord is in control and I know He has a perfect plan, even though I may not understand that plan. He will be 95 years old in November and this type of trauma is hard to overcome for the elderly. I'm not sure what the coming days hold, but, thankfully, I do know who holds the days, and I'm trying hard to hang on and trust Him. And, Daddy has amazed us before and I wouldn't put it past him to amaze us again.

Wednesday Hodgepodge

I'm on a roll, two straight weeks participating in the Hodgepodge. Yea! Me! Joyce provides the questions and we provide our answers.

1.What was the best (or one of the best) summers of your life? Tell us why.

Well, this really is a tough one as I have the fondest of memories of soooo many summers. But, when I was 10 years old, our family scraped and saved to take a trip to Washington DC in 1962. My precious Momma was a very talented seamstress and made all 4 of us 2 sets of matching shirts. I so wish I had a picture of us. We looked so cute and I just remember what a fun, fun trip it was. And, it was done on a shoestring for sure. A sweet, sweet memory.

2. When you have a trip coming up do you make a list and check it twice to ensure you don't forget anything? I don't know that I have ever made a list but I do start packing early and throwing things in and I don't think I've ever forgotten anything.

Or are you a 'throw whatever you can think of into the suitcase at the last minute' kind of packer? Oh, heaven's NO, I'm not a "last minute" kind of gal in any regard. ~chuckle~

When returning from a trip do you unpack immediately or leave the suitcase right where it lands? Indeed, immediately or as soon after immediately as possible.

3. What's your favorite food or beverage made with lemons? Is that a flavor you enjoy?

I enjoy Lemon Icebox Pie, it's not at the top of my list but it's definitely something I enjoy.

4. When was the last time you had to make lemonade out of lemons, figuratively speaking I mean?

I'm pretty sure I've had to do this on more than one occasion recently, but, I cannot remember. So, forgive me. I'm sure when I read everyone else's answers that I will think of several.

5. Did you like school growing up? Why or why not?

My friends, was I not the cutest little first grader with my Shirley Temple curls? Yes, I loved school and thankfully I adapted to change easily. I say that because I attended 7 different schools in my 12 years of school. We even moved the second semester of my Junior year and I adjusted just fine, jumped in and made new friends easily. I was and always have been a very social person and, I must admit, I saw school as more of a social affair than an educational affair. ~grin~

This past Saturday morning I was measuring out all the ingredients to make Banana Nut Bread when my phone rang. I saw that it was Dad's facility, and that always gives me cause for concern. He had taken a pretty bad fall and he was in a lot of pain with his shoulder. I dropped everything and took off (I'm about 8 minutes away) and knew, after seeing him, that he had to be taken to the ER. I felt like he had probably broken his shoulder. Thankfully the ER was not busy and we got him right in. And after both x-rays and CAT scan it revealed he had fractured his scapula (shoulder blade) and 3 ribs on his right side. Bless his precious heart, just not what he needed at almost 95 years of age. It was obvious that I was going to have to line up sitters for his waking hours of the day. He is pretty much helpless and needs assistance with everything. He is quite uncomfortable and is taking some mild meds for pain and they seem to take the edge off. I was able to secure 5 sitters to work various schedules to cover 7:00AM - 8:00PM daily for now. They are working to keep him moving to prevent him from getting peumonia and to keep him mobile. Home Health will start tomorrow and physical therapy should begin soon. It grieves my heart to see him like this but I know the Lord is with Him and holding him extra tight during this time and He is supplying me with the extra strength that I need. Your prayers would be greatly appreciated.

The Wednesday Hodgepodge

Well, look at me, I'm participating in the Hodgepodge two weeks in a row. Joyce does such a good job week in and week out with the questions and it's always fun to answer them and then read everyone's answers.

1. What's a task you do on a regular (or semi-regular basis) that feels like it should be an Olympic event?

We have a lovely fountain in the side of our front yard. We had our landscaper build a specific spot for the fountain and it is indeed lovely. BUT, guess what? That fountain requires regular cleaning and filling. I think we thought if we kept the fountain chemicals in it that they would take care of the cleaning. Not so. About every month it needs to be completely emptied and scrubbed and refilled. That is generally my job and while I love the results, I dislike the process. I'm not sure I should compare it to an Olympic event but, in the heat of summer, it is not for the faint of heart.

2. What's in the trunk of your car right now?

I drive an SUV, so I have cargo space rather than a trunk. I LOVE my cargo space and it always has a small fold up rolling cart and not much of anything else stays in it all the time. I use the cart to carry items to my Daddy because I generally have way more than I can carry in my arms.

3. Summer foods vs. fall foods...which do you prefer?

Hands down, fall foods. When fall arrives, my cooking turns to soups, chili and gumbo. I'm not much of a summer time cook but when fall and winter arrive, I'm all in. I guess I'm more of a one pot cook. ~smile~

Would you rather-watermelon or caramel apple? Well, I'm not really a fan of either but, if forced, I'll take a few bites of watermelon.

iced coffee or pumpkin spiced latte? I've just recently tried iced coffee and I am a fan, much to my surprise. I got the low calorie kind but it still had more calories than I want in a drink.

potato salad or sweet potato casserole? Yummy to both of these, I really can't pick one over the other.

barbecued ribs or roast turkey? Believe it or not, I've never eaten ribs (they are too messy) in my life so guess I'll have to go with roast turkey.

ice cream sandwich or apple pie? I'm a huge fan of pie, so I'll go with apple pie for sure.

corn on the cob or candy corn? Corn on the cob hands down!!! I do not even like thinking about candy corn, yuck!

4. August 7th is National Lighthouse Day. Have you visited any lighthouses? Do you have a favorite? Is a lighthouse something you seek out if you're visiting an area known for theirs?

I "think" we may have seen a lighthouse when we visited the Charleston or Savannah area but I have never been attracted to lighthouses. My parents always searched them out but I guess their interest never rubbed off on me.

5. Light at the end of the tunnel, out like a light, give the green light, a lightbulb moment, in a new light, in the limelight...of the 'light' idioms listed which applies in some way to your life lately? Explain.

Hummm.........I'm scratching my head over this one, so I'm going with "out like a light." That would not just be lately but most every night. When my head hits the pillow, I am out. Sometimes I do wake up in the early morning hours and seem to struggle going back to sleep, but that's not often. I have always been blessed with really good sleep.

This is Coleman's first year to be able to show sheep. He was in his first show the last weekend of July and he won. Yea. Coleman! Of course, he has been watching his older brother show for years and years and Clancy definitely was a great example for Coleman. Now, Case can hardly wait until he's old enough but he's a few years away.

Quick update on Daddy and his dentures...........Bless his sweet heart, adjusting to dentures is not going all that well for him. He needs to use an adhesive to keep them from slipping and that is most difficult for him due to his very limited eyesight. It's very frustrating for him to try and put the adhesive on, so he tries to not use it and it works fairly well until meal time. The other issue is he simply forgets to put them in. In the 4 months that he was without teeth and going through the process of getting dentures, he learned to eat fairly well without teeth. I told him if he could see how handsome he looks in them (above picture) that would be a big motivation for him. But, at 94, it's not looking like the dentures will be a part of his daily life.

An Olympic Hodgepodge

It's Wednesday and that means The Hodgepodge. Joyce asks the questions and we provide the answers. Easy enough and so enjoyable to read everyone's answers. Here ya go!

1. The Olympics kick off this coming weekend. Will you be watching? If you could watch just one event in person, which one would you choose?

I may watch the opening ceremonies as they are generally most impressive but probably will only catch it in bits and pieces.

If I could watch one event in person it would be gymnastics. I've always enjoyed gymnastics but since our 9 year old granddaughter (pictured above) is quite the gymnast, it's gone to a new level for me. I will add that it is nerve wracking for me to watch and especially when Andi Kate is competing.

2. Have you ever been to Paris? Is this a city you'd like to visit? What's your favorite 'French thing'?

There was a time that I would have enjoyed going to Paris but I never give it any thought anymore and figure I'll live just as long if I never go. ~smile~

I love the French language and our oldest granddaughter will be taking French this year and she is beyond excited. We, her family, tried talking her into taking Spanish as we felt it would serve her better. But, there was no changing her mind and who knows, it just might serve her well. And, perhaps she will want to take her CiCi to Paris and she can do all the communicating.

3. Macaron, creme brulee, chocolate soufle, mille feuille, or an eclair...your favorite French patisserie from the ones listed?

Hands down, the Eclair! I was reminded this past weekend of how much I like them. We were at a gathering and the hostess served Eclair Cake. OMG! it was sooooo good!

4. July 24th is National Cousins Day...do you have many cousins? Are you close to them? Will you see any of your cousins on July 24th?

I have 10 cousins located in Arkansas, Alabama and Virginia. Regretfully, I have never lived near any of them and have not seen any of them in a while. No, I will not see any of them today. In spite of the distance, I do feel a closeness to them.

5. Last time you went somewhere that felt like 'everyone and his cousin' was there?

I NEVER go to Walmart on the weekend unless it is absolutely necessary. But, a couple of weeks ago I had to go in the early afternoon of a Saturday and I promise "everyone and his cousin" was there. I generally say, "everyone and his brother." ~chuckle~ Drives me bonkers and it's why I avoid afternoons and weekends at Walmart.

Just wanted to report back on a couple of items I have mentioned in my random thought the past month............

I started a subscription to Gardencup to see if we might like them. And, yes, they were very, very good salads and it is amazing how much is crammed into these containers. But, the least amount you can order is 6 salads and the least often is every 2 weeks. That just doesn't work for us. We do love a good salad but we would need to eat 6 in a week as they are only good for 5 days once they arrive. So, that subscription was cancelled.

Then I made my very first and only purchase, thus far, from Shein. If you remember, this dress was $10.87. Unbelievable! It arrived in less than 2 weeks and I could not believe how cute it is and appears to be well made to me. I have no idea how on earth they can sell it for $10.87 but...............I've not ordered anything else and may not. That remains to be decided.

In closing I, like many of you, have a very heavy heart for the "state of affairs" of our country. I pray for a miracle of peace and unity to sweep through and hearts to turn to God before our November election.

Well, I've never been 71 before so not exactly sure what I should feel like. But, I think I feel mighty good and am still blessed with a lot of "get up and go." So, I'm going to say I feel younger. As we know, we all age differently and some folks are "old" at 60 and some are still young at "80." I'm shooting for being young at 80. ~chuckle~

2. What's one thing you should toss right now, but just can't?

Perhaps this is odd, but I cannot think of ONE thing that I need to toss but can't. I stay in a state of "cleaning out and getting rid of." I make multiple trips to the thrift store every month. Of course, the older I get, the easier it is to toss or better, give to someone that could find a good use for it. Now, when the time comes that I need to have a HUGE tossing, I imagine some things will pull at my heart strings but, I won't labor over it, I'll move on. It's just what I do. I will not dwell on it.

3. Have you visited many of the 63 National Parks in the US of A? You'll find a list here. Do you have a favorite? What National Park that you haven't seen do you most want to see?

Hubby and I have done a whole lot of traveling in our 53 years of marriage but those travels have only covered Hot Springs, The Great Smoky Mts. National Park and the Grand Canyon. I seriously doubt that we will embark upon anymore big trips but those closer to home. So, guess we've seen all the national parks we will be seeing. Who knows?

4. How often do you get take out? What's your favorite?

It is a rarity for us to get take out, in fact, I can't even remember the last time we did such.

But, guess this is a bit like carry out......I received my first shipment from Gardencup yesterday and we had one of the salads for our dinner last evening. The jury is still out as to whether or not I will keep the subscription. I have it set for every two weeks, 6 salads. That is the least amount you can order and the least often you can receive them. But, I can pause it any time I want to. The salads are good for 6 days from the day you receive them and I'm pretty sure Hubby and I will not have any trouble eating 3 salads each in 6 days. We shall see. They have 2 sizes, regular and mini. I ordered the regular size and there is almost enough in one for both of us. I don't know how they pack so much in one container. If I do order again I might go with the mini size. Added note: the containers they come in are so cute and I'm trying to find some use for them. I mean, I can't bring myself to throw them away. Hey, guess that could be the item I might need to toss. ~big laugh~

5. Do you have many (or any) subscriptions? Not necessarily magazines, but thinking more along the lines of boxes or products that companies offer, and you can sign up to receive on a regular basis. Could be weekly, monthly, quarterly, even daily. Tell us about them.

Well, guess, my above answer fits this question as well. I do not have any other subscriptions except for streaming services, Netflix, Prime, Up, Disney+ and I'm probably forgetting another one. It's crazy!

Okay ladies, have you ever ordered from Shein? I was talking with my hair stylist yesterday while getting my hair done and she and another lady were telling me how much shopping they do on Shein. I've heard of it but have never, ever checked it out. My stylist just went to Hawaii and got some of the cutest dresses to take from Shein. So, just as you have guessed, I came home, checked it out, saw the dress (pictured above) and yes, I ordered it. I mean, it was $10.87!!!! How on earth can anything be that inexpensive and even hold together? She said she has washed hers and they still look good. So, we shall see, but, I figure if it's a total wash, I haven't lost much.

I use Lemi Shine appliance cleaner on all my appliances and really like it. I had never seen this shower cleaner until recently and decided it might be good also. We have a very large walk in shower and it is a toughie to clean. Thankfully I've managed to keep it in tip top shape with the various cleaners I have used. I've used this a couple of times and am pleased with the results.

I keep a handheld fan in my makeup drawer. I use it to dry my face after I spray my makeup setting spray. My last one bit the dust and I replaced it with this one. This one has about 6 settings and blows extremely hard. It would be a great cooling fan for outdoor activities.

The Wednesday Hodgepodge

I keep thinking I'm going to be a "regular" here on the Hodgepodge, but it seems I'm more the "hit or miss" participant. But, I sure do enjoy it when I do join in because Joyce always asks such interesting questions. One would think she might run out of questions but she just keeps coming up with new ones. Now, lets check out the ones for this edition.

1. What do you think has remained the same about you your whole life? How has your perception of yourself changed over time?

I don't think I've ever met a stranger. I've always made friends very easily and it has served me well, especially in my growing up years. We moved 7 times between my 1st grade and senior year. I never thought too much about it, just jumped in, made new friends and went right on.

Another thing that has remained the same is my LOUD laugh. If I'm laughing, you will likely hear me before you see me. I'd rather laugh than eat when I'm hungry. And, I've found that laughter is contagious. Certainly not a bad thing!

2. What was the first thing you learned how to cook? Do you prefer to cook or bake?

I started cooking at a fairly young age but cannot remember the first thing I learned to cook. I do know that I learned early on how to prepare a pot roast and veggies for our Sunday lunch. There were no crockpots, so I put it in an appropriate pan for the oven and covered it tightly with foil. It would cook the entire time we were at church and be ready for our lunch when we got home.

I MUCH prefer to bake! The main thing I bake is cookies. I LOVE baking cookies and have bazillions of different recipes of assorted cookies. I probably have 400+ in the freezer right now (more on this in my random thought).

3. What are some of your current priorities in this season of life? Elaborate.

Make the most of everyday.

Don't fret over things that I have no control over.

Count my blessings and name them one by one.

Live a life that points others to Christ, there truly is no greater priority.

Sure do wish I could say that I'm doing a great job at these but afraid I can't say that. I am trying and recognize very quickly when I fail.

4. How much time do you spend on your hair each day or, put another way, what's your hair care routine? I am NOT bragging but I have really good hair. It's thick and coarse and is not oily, just normal. I wash my hair twice weekly, blow it dry, section it off in small sections and flat iron it. I'm so thankful for the flat iron, otherwise, I'd walk around looking like a bush was growing out of my head. It's not curly, just has an abundance of body. I will sometimes touch it up with a flat iron between washings but most days I can just run my fingers through it and go.

Do you get it cut regularly or just whenever the mood strikes? I get it cut and colored every 4 weeks without fail.

Do you go to the same stylist every time? I have had several stylist over the years but I stay with the same stylist for a long time. I definitely do NOT hop around.

Do you tell your stylist everything? Not hardly but we do have very good conversation. I've known her for most of her life so we never lack for something to discuss or talk about.

Any other beauty treatments you indulge in throughout the year? If getting my nails done counts as a beauty treatment, then yes. I have them done about every 2 1/2 weeks and the same gal has been doing them for over 20 years.

5. What is the most awe-inspiring place you've visited?

While in Israel, we were taken to a spot overlooking Bethlehem. We were not allowed to actually go into the city, but just viewing it at dusky dark was very awe inspiring for sure. I'll cherish the memory forever.

Folks, next Monday, July 1st, this man (Hubby) will celebrate his 50th anniversary as an agent with State Farm Insurance. Good grief, that's a LONG time! Hard to believe that he opened his office without one policy in the books and built it to what it is today. It's called a lot of hard work and being blessed with tremendous employees over the years to help him accomplish his goals and dreams. Of course, the changes that he has seen in insurance over these 50 years could fill a book. Some good, some, not so good but he survived them all and has enjoyed the benefits of building a successful insurance agency.

His staff and us will host an Open House to celebrate this big occasion on Monday. And, you remember those cookies I mentioned earlier? Well, they will be served at the Open House.

I have a moderate size closet, or at least I think it's moderate. Some might think it is big. I do have the pull down rods which double the hanging space. But, I need more hanging room and these are the greatest tools to give more hanging space. I've never seen anything like them but happened across them while looking for something else. They are definitely not inexpensive but, for me, they are worth the cost. If you are looking to increase the hanging space in your closet, you need these.

I love these as shawls. I carry one with me every Sunday, no matter the month or the temperature. It can get so cool in our worship center and I am always prepared with one of these. PICKLEBALL PADDLES AND NET

Pickleball has swept the country in recent years and continues to gain in popularity. Our son and granddaughters love it and play any chance they can. Our circle drive is a perfect place to play.

And, this portable nets fits across the driveway perfectly. It comes with a very nice bag but we found that it is really too small and too hard to use. So, I ordered a larger one. It is portable but does take a few minutes to set up but, well worth it, if you are going to play a while and it can be left up if rain isn't in the forecast.

THERMAL LABEL MAKER

I'm not going to lie, I love a label maker! I can find more uses for it. I use it often in labeling my cookie containers. I have another Niimbot label maker but this one makes much bigger labels and has the ability to add graphics to the labels as well. It operates from an app on your smart phone. I find it a "handy dandy" item to have on hand.

The Wednesday Hodgepodge

I am so thrilled to be participating in the HP today. Joyce always comes up with such thought provoking questions that are fun to answer. I have gotten so slack in blogging and often think that I'll get back with it. But, life gets in the way and the weeks turn to months and the months to years. I have a lot of thoughts and subjects rolling around in my mind for good blog fodder. So, perhaps I'll surprise you and get back with it. Time will tell.

1. Growing up, at what age did you think you'd become an adult? At what age did you actually become an adult?

Oh, my goodness, that was a VERY long time ago but I'm pretty sure I thought I would be an adult when I celebrated my 18th birthday. I can remember thinking, "if I were only 18." I was 2 months shy of my 19th birthday when I got married. Yes, scares me too death to think about that now. But, thankfully, Hubby was 5 years older and had plenty of patience and I can assure you that I tested it in our early years (and he might say I still do). ~ chuckle~ I probably didn't actually take on an adult mindset until I became a Mother at the age of 23

2. What's a favorite item you've bought this year?

This little cherry wood accent table. Did I need it, NO! Did I want it, YES! This is one of our guest bathrooms and one that company uses and Hubby and I use it if we don't want to go all the way to our bathroom. I have been in this bathroom a bunch of times and putting an accent table in it has never crossed my mind. But, a couple of weeks ago I walked in and I thought the bird picture would look so nice with a small table under it. So, the hunt began. I found this on Wayfair and it arrived 2 days later and it could not be more perfect. I have two arrangements being created right now to go on it, one on the top and one on the bottom shelf. It will be complete and I think a nice addition. And, yes, it is just one more thing that our kids will likely have to add to an estate sale one day. But, until then, I will enjoy it. ~smile~

3. May 28th is National Hamburger Day...are you a fan? If so, how do you like yours? When was the last time you had a hamburger? Besides the backyard grill, what's your favorite place to go for a burger?

It's been a couple of weeks and yes, I am a fan. But, I do not like thick patties and I want them completely done. I really prefer to eat my own hamburgers as so many places make them so thick. I like mine with a chipolte mayo, lettuce, onion and dill pickles, NO tomatoes. I rarely, if ever, eat a hamburger when we go out to eat.

4. How have your priorities changed over time?

I think for most, as we age, our priorities change for the better. We realize what is really important and don't sweat the small things nearly as much. I place more priority on meaningful relationships (family and friends), my own self improvement, my walk with the Lord and making a positive difference in the lives of others. And, I'm sure I still have more work to do in this area. And, way back when, I'm pretty sure I didn't even have any idea what priority meant and certainly had none.

5. What's one thing on your June calendar you're really looking forward to?

In about 3 weeks these 2 "monkeys" and their Momma will be coming for a short visit. Their big brother and Daddy will stay behind to mind the dogs, horses and sheep. They have a super busy summer and the #1 priority at their house is to give Momma all the time she needs to finish up her dissertation. Yes, she's almost to the end and "if the Lord's willing and the creeks don't rise" she will defend her dissertation towards the end of Oct. And, at that time will be "crowned" with her Doctorate in Math Education. All in 3 1/2 years. It has taken the boys and her husbands full support to accomplish such. Anyway, we look forward to seeing her and the two littles for 2-3 days.

This guy right here, my sweet Daddy, has kept me hopping in recent months. As you can tell from the picture, he has no teeth. That's right, it was decided last summer that the teeth he had left needed to come out. That took about 4 months and then after some time to heal, we started in on the process of getting dentures. Good grief, what a process! I've taken him for 4 visits and we have 2 more and he will finally get them. Now, is he going to wear them, that remains to be seen. It will be a huge adjustment for him as he hasn't had a full mouth of teeth in many, many years.

And, he has another Squamous Cell cancer on his left hand. I say another because he had one last year, on the same hand, and it was a huge ordeal because it was misdiagnosed for months and he almost lost his little finger. But, this one just came up and we will begin the removal process in 2 weeks and hopefully it will be a much simpler and quicker process. Might I add, these Drs. are all 25 miles away, so it takes some time and some of the visits are rather long.

It can be overwhelming to me at times and yes, I am blessed to still have my Daddy but it doesn't mean that his care doesn't get heavy at times. I have someone who assists me in the overseeing of his day to day care but when it comes to Drs. visits, that needs to be my responsibility. And, trying to work in my own routine Dr. appointments along with his, well, it gets challenging at best.

On a lighter note, as you can see in the above picture, he is on a scooter. Can I tell you that he has been like a kid with a new toy since getting that. I really tried to talk him out of it as I feel like his walking is very important to keeping the use of his legs. He has used a cane and a walker for the past several years and manages just fine with those. But, he got it in his head that he "needed" a scooter to go down to the dining room. My bother and I discussed it and decided that he has very few bright spots in his life and if he wanted a scooter that badly then he could have one. It is truly the neatest means of transportation for such a reasonable price and far, far better than an electric wheelchair. It will turn on a dime, it's rechargeable, has some great features and above all, he's so cute on it. ~wink~ I worried, at first, about his very limited vision and how that would work. But, thankfully, he has managed just fine and tells me daily how much he enjoys it. I made a bargin with him and told him he "had" to walk to one meal a day just for the exercise. Not sure he's holding up to his end of the bargin but...............

May - Prime Purchases

These are called the Martha Stewart Bobs and they are so cute and comfortable. I have a narrow foot and these only come in a medium width, so I put an insole and a heel pad in to help with the fit. I love the elevated sole a whole lot and they come in a natural color that I also got.

Yes, I do love handbags, in case you have not noticed that. And, I like ones that easily hold all my "stuff" and this one fits the bill. It's leather, good price point and comes in 6 colors. As I've said before, I have a small shopping purse that stays in my vehicle as I do not carry a heavy handbag on my shoulder anymore.

Our daughter taught us to play while we were there a few weeks ago and we had so much fun. FLAT TOP MAKEUP BRUSH

Flat top brushes are my new favorite makeup brushes. They come in various sizes but this is the one I use most. I use this to put the neutral colored eyeshadow all over my eyelid before applying any color. It works great! I also have a much larger version for my loose powder application.

I love gazing balls and enjoy using them in a few of our flower beds. This is my newest one and it is so pretty, especially when the sun hits it.

This is the stand I ordered to place it on. You can get stands of various heights. I usually place them a bit under the dirt for stability and all 4 of the ones we have survive the often strong winds we have here on "the hill." They comes in all sorts of colors and patterns and, for me, are a nice touch.

Who knew there was a battery operated flosser! Not me, at least not until the other day when my dentist's hygienist told me about this one. I ordered it immediately and I loved it the minute I used it. I hate flossing and anything I can do to improve it, makes me happy. Flossing is so important and this little gadget is making it a tad bit more enjoyable for me.

OUTDOOR FOLDING CHAIRS

We needed some new chairs to carry to the ballpark. We had ones with the woven webbing and it was about worn out. I wasn't even sure those were made anymore as everyone now has the mumbo jumbo chairs with rockers, lift out drink holders and all the bells and whistles. Well, those only weight about 25+ pounds and we aren't into carrying that much weight and we aren't into pulling a wagon either. So, while looking to replace our chairs I ran across these. AND, they have a shoulder strap that works like a charm and they weigh a mere 7 pounds. They did have the webbed chairs with straps as well but I like these with the solid seat and back better. And, they are cute as can be and as we know, cute is always an added bonus. ~chuckle~

AURA CARVER DIGITAL FRAME

I've had a Nix digital frame for about 10 years and was very happy with it but it had about served it's purpose. And digital frames have come a LONG ways in the last 10 years. So, a couple of weeks I did my research and the Aura is one of the most highly rated digital frames. I immediately went to Amazon to see if they carried it, and, of course, they did. It might have taken me 5 minutes to set it up and now I send photos to it thru the Aura app on my phone. And, the pictures are beautiful when they come across the frame. I couldn't be happier. It has way more bells and whistles than my older one.

I had used my double walled tumblers for long enough. The rubber seals wouldn't stay in and I decided it was time for some new tumblers. Well, I saw these and decided they would work very well for my nutritional tea that I drink everyday. They are skinny, easy to hold and keep my tea cold while I drink it. And, need I say, they are so cute! And, I ordered my name and initials from Etsy to decorate them. They would also make great gifts as there are 8 to a box.

BAKERY EMULSION

A friend gave us a little mini pound cake that she had made a couple of weeks ago. I make a really good Almond Pound cake but this cake was REALLY good too. I seemed to sense that there was something just a tad different in hers, so I ask her about it. She said it had a tiny bit of Bakery Emulsion in it. Well, not sure where I've been, but I've never heard of such but I now own a bottle and I will be using it in my cakes from here on. It only takes 1/2 teaspoon and, from what I read, any more than that can ruin the taste. I can't believe 1/2 teaspoon makes such a difference but I promise it does. I'm thinking I may try it in my next batch of cookies as well.

These are the BEST, especially if you are using them on a calendar. Yes, we still keep an old fashioned wall calendar for our appointments.~smile~ And, I love a neat calendar and do not like to mark or white out anything. So, I found these little jewels a couple of years ago and they solve the problem. If I need to change anything on my calendar I just erase it and it does a great job. No mess! I only use them for my calendar but you can certainly use them for all your writing if you desire.

A Saucy Hodgepodge

And, it's Wednesday again, it rolls around very regularly and Joyce always shows up with new questions. And, here's my answers...........

1. Has March come in like a lion where you live? If not a lion then what animal would you use to describe the weather in your area this first week of March? Does the weather affect your emotions? When did you last feel 'under the weather'?

My goodness gracious (as my Grandmother use to say), March has most definitely come in like a lion here. We had a storm to beat all storms Monday afternoon. Blinding rain and damaging force winds. It was crazy and electricity was out for about 10 hours following it. It was one of those times that we were so thankful we put in a full house generator when we built.

Yes, when it rains for several days it definitely affects my emotions. I am a sunshine kinda gal and when all I see is rain it's a real downer.

I had strep throat about 6 weeks ago and I really thought that was a "kids thing." But, guess not. I was quite uncomfortable for a couple of days but once the injection and meds went to work, I felt fine.

2. Do you know what your name means? Does the meaning of your name fit with your personality? Do you like your name? If you have children did you consider the meaning of their names before choosing them?

I never think about the meaning of my name but am pretty sure I've looked it up before. It means, delicate, weary, meadow.

Hummm........ No, the meaning of my name does not fit with my personality. I'm not delicate, feminine, but not delicate. I can be weary but it's not all that often and I'm not even sure how meadow relates.

I do like my name. My middle name is Beth and I was called Lea Beth until my late teen years and then I dropped the Beth and have been called Lea ever since.

Our children's names are, Brandon and Bridget and the meaning of those names never entered our minds when we named them. I just thought they were cute names that began with the same letter. No joke! I will say that with their middle names they both have very nice family names but, I'll keep their middle names a mystery. ~smile~

3. It's National Sauce Month...what's your favorite sauce? Last thing you ate that used a sauce?

Well, not sure this is considered a sauce but I use it as a sauce as well as a dressing. I always dip chicken stripes in it and that was the last thing I ate using it as a sauce. And, it's the BEST!

4. Something you've seen, tasted, done lately that you'd describe as 'awesome sauce'?

I cannot think of anything I've tasted lately that I would describe in such a fashion.

But, we have been to watch this little cutie (our 9 year old granddaughter) compete in gymnastics the past two weekends. That was definitely 'awesome sauce'. I almost have to hide my eyes when she does her beam routine but she did very well in both competitions and she has a couple more coming up.

Hubby and I were at friends this past weekend and 5 couples engaged in a Cornhole Tournament. We've never played and dear readers, we were the champions (that's definitely 'awesome sauce'). Yes, you read that right! And, might I add, I made the bulk of the points. I truly had no idea what I was doing but, obviously I had the hang of the throw.

5. What kinds of things do you love to collect?

At his point in my life there is nothing I love to collect. But, over the years I have enjoyed collecting Santa's, pretty dishes, pottery, Andrea birds and on it goes. But, within recent years I've quit collecting as I truly do have PLENTY and I need no more to have to get rid of 'down the road.' Now, I do love to add to my cookie recipes if that counts.

After the storm Monday, we were left, as I said, without electricity and also internet and cable. We do have a generator but that does NOT help with internet and cable. It went out about 2:30 and was restored about 5:00 Tuesday afternoon. That's a little over 24 hours. Well, folks, I felt like I had had my right arm cut off. I'm a bit ashamed to say that but it's the truth. I do so many financial things on my computer and yes, I do use it for pleasure as well. I'm so use to going to the computer, pulling up what I need when I need it and that didn't happen for a whole day. It truly is a bit scary that, as a society and as a country we are so dependent on the internet. That's all I'll say about that.......... Thankfully Audible still worked and I got in a whole lot of listening time.

And, here we are in March! Time flies when you are having fun or time flies when you are older. ~chuckle~ Either way, we are almost one third through 2024. Now, let's take a look at some of my Amazon grabs.

AIRWICK ESSENTIAL MIST DIFFUSER

I have tried different types of diffusers and I've tried Pura. I'll take these Essential Mist Diffusers by Air Wick over anything I've tried over the past few years. These are soooo easy to use and there are several choices of fragrances. I am using two of them in our bedroom at night to diffuse Lavender. When you turn them on they run for 8 hours and then will turn on at that exact time the next day. They are battery operated. There is no filling with water, or dropping oil in the water. I also got some for my Dad's apartment at the assisted living facility. I'm using a citrus fragrance for him and it has definitely given his little space a fresher fragrance. And, the containers are non-descript and just sort of blend in with any decor. It's a win, win!

KITCHEN TOWEL AND WASHCLOTH SET

I don't know about you, but I like for my kitchen dish cloth and kitchen hand towel to match. These are just perfect and come in 4 different colors. They are the perfect thickness and I'm thrilled that I found these. I got the red and grey sets.

The silky blouses are still all the rage and the prints in this one are so pretty. I love the lantern style sleeves.

I reworked my coffee bar area and got this black metal sign to stick on the subway tile where the coffee pot sits. It is too cute and more importantly, it makes me happy. I used command strips to hang it and they work like a charm.

WAXED AMARYLLIS

I had this same amaryllis at Christmas except that it had a silver glitter waxed bulb. I had so much fun watching it grow and it was perfectly gorgeous and lasted and lasted. I decided to get another one in a spring colored wax and perhaps it will bloom around Easter. I have no idea who came up with these waxed amaryllis but they are a genius. You do nothing but sit them where you want them and then just enjoy watching them grow. I mean, what's not to like about that? And, they make the nicest gifts.

ROUND HAMMERED COPPER TRAY

This is a beautiful tray and I do love hammered copper. I will be using it in various ways and likely stand it on its edge on the counter against the wall when I'm not using it. It's a lovely decorative piece as well.

SEASALT CARAMEL BAKING CHIPS

Who knew about these? Not me! A sweet lady at our church that enjoys baking cookies as much I do told me about them a couple of weeks ago. I could not find them at either of our local stores and was pretty sure that I would find them on trusty Amazon. And, I was right!!! They come 3 to a package. Just take your favorite chocolate chip recipe and use these in the place of the chocolate chips and you can thank me later. What's not to like about Sea Salt Caramel???

I ordered some of these about 3 years ago and now need to up my readers to 1.75 so I ordered another package. And, they have the blue light blocker. They have several color packs to choose from and if you are like me, I want a pair laying wherever I need them. I do not want to have to go hunt down a pair.

Do you get the feeling that I like hammered copper? Well, I do. And, these little tumblers are so cute. I will not be using them for tumblers but rather for floral arrangements for something I have coming up in April. Won't they be the cutest? And, so affordable!

Okay, have you ever heard of a drink table? I had not until I saw one of these in a catalog I was looking at the other day and I have 2-3 places I could sure one of these. But, I'll start with just this one and their easy enough to move around. I like to have a place for a drink by all chairs. I am using this one by a rocking chair that has no room for a side table, but this "little jewel" works great.

Mighty fast

I can hardly believe that we are one day away from March, the 3rd month of 2024.

2. If you had to describe how you're feeling right now as an amusement park ride, what ride are you on? Explain.

The steady running train. Most park rides are tilting, rocking, up and down, or herky jerky. A train is one of the smoothest of all rides and things are fairly smooth going right now.

3. What's something on your desk or a nearby wall that cheers you up when you see it or walk past?

This, by Toby Mac, hangs in my home office and serves as a daily reminder to me as I walk past it several times each day.

4. Are you a salad eater? How many salads do you typically eat in a week? Your favorite kind of salad?

I am most definitely a salad eater but not too much at home but 75% of the time when we eat out, I order some type salad. I probably eat 2-3 a week and my favorite would be Caesar. And, add some grilled chicken and that makes it even better.

5. Without telling us the category give us your top five ______________.

1. Half way pulling into a parking space or straddling two parking spaces

2. Leaving your shopping cart in the middle of the parking lot, people, it only takes a minute to roll it to the cart caddy

It's Saturday the 10th and I decided to link up with Marsha in the Middle for 10 on the 10th. Interesting questions for sure and I certainly didn't have to stress my brain to answer them. So, here' goes..............

1. Would you rather have fruit dipped in chip dip or potato chips dipped in chocolate?

I like sweet and salty, so give me chips dipped in chocolate, sounds good to me.

2. Would you rather publicly sing a love song or recite an original poem to your significant other?

I use to have a good voice and sang a lot but that "ship has sailed." And, I enjoy writing but not a poem, so I'm going to have to say I'd rather not do either one. ~truth~

3. Would you rather share the best meal of your life with Willie Nelson or Dolly Parton?

Hands down, Dolly Parton!!! I've loved Dolly for years and years. I've seen her in concert, been to her theme park, watched her movies and on and on. I think to share a meal with her would have to be a one in a lifetime experience.

4. Would you rather receive a dozen perfect black roses or one rose in the color you love most?

NO black roses for this gal!

But, one yellow rose would be just great and so would a red one. I sometimes think red roses are a bit over rated.

5. Would you rather spend an entire week of February dressed only in pink with purple hearts or red with orange hearts?

Okay, both of these sound way more tacky than I care to be. I have 4-5 sweaters that I wear in the weeks prior to Valentine's and they are so cute. So, I'll stick with them.

6. Would you rather be treated to a day driving a Maserati around the Indy 500 race track or go for a carriage ride in the Scottish Highlands?

I'll take a carriage ride any day. We've done a few carriage rides over the years and they were so enjoyable.

7. Would you rather have your Valentine pizza delivered by Dwayne Johnson (The Rock) or Jason Statham?

I'm sorry but I don't think I have even heard of either of these. So.........

8. Would you rather sleep on red satin sheets or flannel sheets with teddy bears on them?

How about flannel sheets with penguins on them? Hubby and I tried a set of satin sheets one time and one time only. We did NOT like them. We love flannel sheets in the cold winter. They are so, so warm!

9. Would you rather receive a box of chocolates with your least favorite fillings or a bouquet of flowers to which you are allergic?

I don't think Hubby has ever given me a box of chocolates but if he did, there would likely be several that I would enjoy and the rest would go in the trash.

Since I'm not allergic to flowers, I'll just take flowers.

10. Would you rather go on a surprise date or have planned it yourself?

I'm not much into surprises, so I'll just plan something myself. Even though I'm not a fan of surprises, Hubby has pulled off a couple of BIG ones in the 52 years of our marriage.

I guess this would be officially Valentine weekend but I'm pretty sure Valentine's is not on the minds of folks. It would be Super Bowl weekend for the majority. Whatever you end up celebrating this weekend, ENJOY!!!!
