Progress Update

Thats week 16 of my guitar playing come to and end. I started with a 4 string Tenor Guitar that I bought from a shop over here, and within 2 weeks spotted CBGs on the site, so the guitar took a back seat and I jumped straight in and had Chickenbone John make me my very own 3 stringer. At the same time Ben Gitty posted over a 4 stringer that I bought from him. From that moment on I was hooked, and now spend nearly every waking hour either thinking about CBGs or playing on one. Its got so bad I even take one to work with me now. I plan on starting my 1st proper build this week as I have 7 days break. It will be 3 string, and thats as far as I have gone with it so far. All the stuff is ready to go, Black Cohiba box, Oak for the neck, brass, glue, strings the lot. So, watch this space and lets see what happens. A lot of you guys really know what your doing, so hopefully I can make something that resembles a CBG, and more to the point, something that actually plays.

Hey folks, after years of building CBGs, making the “How To” DVDs, and writing the CBG History book, I’ve just released my first all cigar box guitar CD. First off, here’s the link to it on Amazon… Nadaband CD This is probably the heaviest cigar box guitar music you’ll ever hear. We really tried to push the capabilities of the cigar box guitar and bass in this project. So far we’ve been compared to Black Sabbath, AC/DC, with a little Muddy Waters thrown in. Enjoy, Bill

First build: how do you plan for "THE" sound

Hello all.. I am in the planning and parts gathering stage for a 3 plus 1 bow. I think that explains what I am trying for. I am hoping for that heavy full sound like Pat MacDonald gets.I realize that he sends his output to two different amps but what kind of pickups should I be using? Thanks for any advice.

latest build – punch box, oak neck, walnut fretboard, mother of pearl inlays, recycled frets, custom aluminum bridge/tailpiece, screened soundholes. so far no more than $3.00 spent but im to the point im gonna have to order stuff, strings, corners and so-on. not sure what im doing for pickup yet. still need to round the back of the neck.

I have started with my first build of a Cigar Box Amp and am having trouble with the thickness of the box and the mounting of a 1/4″ input jack as well as a 1/8″ headphone jack. Does anyone have any resources for mounting plates for these types of jacks?

Tuner Question

for some reason often my ”enclosed” tuners go out of tune, I’ve tightened the screw at the head and now I’ve stripped one… So my question is… Does tightening the screw keep the tuners and strings tight? or am I doing it wrong… and how do locking tuners work vs standard tuners? Thanks
