This could be very addictive: Google (Google) is teaming up with board game maker Hasbro to launch a Google Maps (Google Maps) version of Monopoly (Monopoly). Monopoly City Streets, which launches Wednesday, allows users to compete in a live, worldwide version of the popular game, creating the biggest Monopoly tournament ever played.

It’s an ambitious venture that we’ll confess to being fairly excited about: players will literally be able to buy any street in the world, and compete with every other player on the “board”. You start with 3 million Monopoly dollars, and can build not only hotels and houses but also football stadiums, castles and skyscrapers, reports the UK’s Guardian. Downing Street in the UK will cost $231,000, while Pennsylvania Avenue will cost $2 million.

The preview site reads:

On the 9th SEPTEMBER, a world of property empire building on an unimaginable scale will be launched! A live worldwide game of MONOPOLY using Google Maps as the game board. The goal is simple. Play to beat your friends and the world to become the richest property magnate in existence.

Own any street in the world. Build humble houses, crazy castles and stupendous skyscrapers to collect rent. Use MONOPOLY Chance Cards to sabotage your mates by building Hazards on their streets.

What the coverage doesn’t mention is the level of involvement Google had here: while in theory this could have been built on the Google Maps API with little input from the search engine maker itself, all reports seem to indicate that Google had a direct role in bringing the game to fruition.

And before we start: I get to be the car, ok?
But Almost all my friends had Apple iPhone and Latitude was not supported on iPhone till now!

Ok my all friends go to Google Latitude

...quote from google blog...

I'm a big fan of the iPhone. I'm also a big fan of the web. So, naturally, I'm excited that today we're finally releasing Google Latitude for iPhone and iPod touch as a web application running in Safari.

Our Latitude web app provides all the core functionality you might expect: you can see the location of your friends on a map and modify your privacy settings so that you control how your location is shared and with whom. In fact, if my friends and colleagues back in London haven't yet noticed my absence, they'll see in Latitude that I'm currently vacationing on the beach in Australia. Hi guys, remember me!?

You'll also find basic Search and Directions functionality to help you get around the world. And just like our Google Maps for mobile client apps (and more recently on desktop Google Maps), you can press the "blue dot" to be taken to your approximate current location on the map with My Location, thanks to Safari now supporting the W3C Geolocation API.

To try Google Latitude, type google.com/latitude into your iPhone's browser. And if you miss the experience of launching the app directly from your home screen, you can add a bookmark to the home screen by opening Latitude in Safari and tapping the + icon > Add to Home Screen > Add.

After than all blogs, twitters starting to publishing the news.

Snip from the official Google Blog:

Google Chrome OS is an open source, lightweight operating system that will initially be targeted at netbooks. Later this year we will open-source its code, and netbooks running Google Chrome OS will be available for consumers in the second half of 2010. Because we're already talking to partners about the project, and we'll soon be working with the open source community, we wanted to share our vision now so everyone understands what we are trying to achieve.

Speed, simplicity and security are the key aspects of Google Chrome OS. We're designing the OS to be fast and lightweight, to start up and get you onto the web in a few seconds. The user interface is minimal to stay out of your way, and most of the user experience takes place on the web. And as we did for the Google Chrome browser, we are going back to the basics and completely redesigning the underlying security architecture of the OS so that users don't have to deal with viruses, malware and security updates. It should just work.

Maybe you've used the ISO8601 calendar, or even made your own week numbers, but in my opinion using a day event to display the week number is kinda ugly.

Google has released a new feature since Google Calendar was created; Web Content Events. It gives Google Calendar the possibility to display events in the title bar of each day as small icons. I found out that you can only add these kind of entries by either uploading an iCal file or using the Google Calendar API, which only technically inclined people know how to do.

Hi,
I just finished my first Google Wave Robot, Its about famous "paper, rock, scissors" hand game. Java development was so far from me... Till attending the Google I/O 2009

If you have Google Wave account, you should try. Address of Robot : roshambowave@appspot.com

How to interact :
1 - Add as contact (roshambowave@appspot.com)
2 - Start New Wave or add robot to existing wave
3 - Reply any message as one of the weapon (rock paper scissor)
4 - Have Fun.

Some of wave developer users comments ;
David: Haha -- roshambo robot... Pretty cool. :)
Alex: Hey, sweet. It won the first round and I got a bit suspicious. But then I won some. Nice work!
Rob: Oh, and have you considered the Lizard-Spock expansion ;) Wikipedia Rock Paper Scissors Additional Weapons
Anne: That is great Cihan! :-) I even played rock paper scissors with your robot and invited Eliza too. She said when I said "rock": "I understand" That is soooo deep ! ;-)

You can find here funny screen capture of this moment;

See you in next post...

Google Maps Api V3 Released !

Everybody knows Google Maps one of the best utility for Rich Internet Application's (RAI). New Google Maps Api V3 Released at Google I/O 2009

Welcome to the release of version 3 of the Google Maps API. This JavaScript API will look similar to the existing version 2 of the Google Maps API. However, much has changed under the hood: Version 3 (called V3 within this document) has been designed to load fast, especially on mobile browsers such as Android-based devices and the iPhone™. The initial launch has a smaller feature set than that available in the V2 API. We will migrate additional features from V2 while working to keep the size of the JavaScript code small and maintain our optimized loading speeds. We welcome your feedback and comments on this version of the Google Maps API within the Google Maps API V3 discussion group.

We've implemented this latest version of the Google Maps API using a modified MVC framework. Any state changes of an MVC object (such as a map) for example, are handled through setters and getters of a particular format. As well, all state of the MVC objects are stored as properties of that object, and all observation of state changes through event handlers is of a particular format as well.

Special emphasis on enabling reliable and fast maps on mobile browsers has been integrated into this API. We encourage you to test out this API on mobile devices and post issues with specific devices to the group noted above.
