At its UK launch during the Sound & Vision Manchester Show 2009, Paul Hanley presents the Olive Opus 4 Digital Audio system that stores up to 6,000 CDs in lossless quality, offering an easy to set-up, all-in-one solution to fully benefit from digital music. As a standalone solution, the Olive Opus 4 will operate seamlessly with an existing stereo system right out of the box. It easy to rip CD's, import music from a computer, or listen to your favorite Internet radio stations. Other features include a full color touch screen display and IR remote control. Opus 4 combines a high resolution DAC, optimized circuit design and lossless digital quality to deliver uncompromised sound reproduction. Three hard drive storage versions are available: 500GB, 1TB and 2TB. The system can be expanded around the house using Olive Melody 2 Hi-Fi Multi-Room Player, with the same color touch screen display and IR remote, to have easy access to music stored on the Opus Hi-Fi Digital Stereo, a computer or other network attached storage device (NAS) and play it everywhere, either wired or wirelessly.

Samsung LCD 8000 Series LED TV

Carrie-Anne Snelson explains the advantages of the Samsung 8000 series LED TVs at the Sound & Vision Manchester Show 2009. Standard LCD TVs use simple fluorescent backlighting lamps to illuminate the image which can lead to the black sometimes appearing greyish. Samsung LED technology overcomes this problem by using multiple LED back-lights to illuminate the screen, that can be turned on and off individually. Blacks appear deeper, contrast is improved with richer, more vivid colours. This Series of screens are much thinner than standard LCD TVs while at the same time using 40% less power. The 8000 Series also features 200Hz Motion Plus technology and MEDI@2.0 technology for improved usability. Motion Plus technology doesn't simply repeat images to make extra frames, but it intelligently estimates the action, creates an extra frame between frames and then repeats the process to quadruple the standard frame rate. Images appear seamless so the motion judder and image blurring that can occur when watching action scene movies and sports is eliminated.

Get a comprehensive overview of the Yamaha Desk Top Audio Range systems for iPods and iPhones, featuring the award winning wireless PDX-50 in addition to the PDX-30, TSX-120 and TSX-130 all on show at the Sound & Vision Manchester Show 2009. The PDX-30 is an iDock solution for iPods and iPhones with two 8cm full range speakers, giving 15 watts per channel, as well as an FM/AM tuner. Vita Audio new portable R1 Hi-Fi radio with Back-Pack battery

Wharfedale Diamond 10 Series Loudspeakers in Video

Steve Macintyre, National Sales Manager for International Audio Group (IAG) showcases the Wharfedale Daimond 10 Series at the Sound & Vision Manchester Show 2009. From the outside the Diamond 10.1 presented looks much like the award-winning Diamond 9.1, as the curved cabinet walls, for strength and reduction of internal standing waves, have been retained, however, the walls have been massively reinforced through an improved method of bonding and internal bracing. Other changes include improvements to the mid/bass drive unit including a new weave of the Kevlar cone which reduces and damps standing waves and improves the coherence of the mid/bass unit and the new tweeter. Crossovers have been changed as well. The speaker’s twin reflex ports have been moved to the rear of the cabinet to reduce the effects of audible distortion. A number of finishes and models up to the Daimond 10.7 are now available as well as a pack for Home Cinema, with additional models to complete the range soon to be available as well.

Samsung’s ultra slim Series 8 Plasma HDTV

Measuring just over an inch in depth, Samsung’s 50-inch (PS50B850) Series 8 model, the slimmest 1080p resolution plasma packed with the latest display technologies, was created for new lifestyle installations. The Series 8 plasma HDTVs are equipped with the Internet@TV – Content Service platform enables users to access internet based multimedia content from their favourite Internet sources. Samsung’s newest plasma displays are also wireless DLNA-compliant, which allows consumers to enjoy all their media content, wherever it is located in the house, without the hassle of extra cabling. Additionally, users can connect storage and mobile devices to the USB 2.0 port to play a variety of multimedia files via USB 2.0 Movie, with an expanded list of supported codecs, including 3GPP, MKV, WMV9 and DivX... Samsung's new Plasma HDTVs are eco-friendly, meeting the stringent Energy Star® 3.0 efficiency standard. KEF KHT7005 and KHT8005 Soundbar systems

Ron Locke presents the KEF Soundbar systems lineup at the Sound & Vision Manchester Show 2009. Created for today's flat panel HDTV's, the KHT7005 is designed for 32 inch screens, while the KHT8005 fits under a 42 inch (or larger) television. The KHT8005 soundbar system includes the HTF8003 centre unit which contains 9 speakers in total, separated in 3 channels left, center and right, each with one of the famous 3-inch KEF Uni-Q drivers and individual tweeter, a 3-inch woofer and a 3-inch auxiliary bass radiator to reinforce lower frequencies. The system is completed by 2 HTS7001 satellite speakers housing dual 2-inch woofers and a 0.75-inch high-frequency driver, which can be either table or wall mounted and the 200W KUBE-2 subwoofer boasting 200 watts of power with a Class-D amplifier, side-firing 10-inch long-throw bass driver and a complementing 10-inch ABR (Active Bass Reflex). The KHT7005 soundbar system includes the HTF7003 unit for under the TV with 6 speakers, each of the three channels containing dual 2-inch woofers and a 0.75-inch high frequency driver. To complete the package are the HTS7001 satellite speakers as well as KUBE-1 subwoofer with 150W on board amplifier which powers both the 8-inch long-throw bass driver and the 8-inch ABR.

Grado Flagship PS1000 and GR-8 in-ear headphones in video

Steve Reichert, PR Manager for Armour Home, the distributor in the UK for Grado products, shows us at the Sound & Vision Manchester Show 2009 what's new at Grado. Recently at the What HiFi Awards, the Grado range won 3 recognitions: Grado SR60i for Product of the Year Best on-ear £50-£150, Grado iGrado for Best hi-fi headphones under £50, and Grado SR325is for Best on-ear £150+. On display were the Grado flagship headphones, the PS1000, using the same wood as the GS1000 for the inner housing but with an alloy aluminium outer housing and an upgraded four conductor cable, and a price tag of £1795. In a new direction for Grado are the recently launched in-ear headphones with the iGi and GR8 models on display for £90 and £285 respectively.

Roger Batchelor demonstrates the new Denon AVR-4810 AV Receiver at the Sound & Vision Manchester Show 2009. The AVR-4810 can run 11.3 channels with two pre-outs on the back. The system is extremely versatile as the 9 mono-bloc design amplifier channels can be assigned in any way you want from multi-zones, bi-amplification of speakers... With Dolby Pro Logic IIz and Audyssey DSX capabilities, expanded sound fields are also possible by placing height speakers in the front as well as adding, as in the demo, left-wide and right-wide loudspeakers. The AVR-4810 has Dolby TrueHD and dts-HD Master Audio under the hood, upscaling to 1080p, iPod direct digital input with Denon's Advanced AL24 Processing, as well as six HDMI inputs, dual simultaneous HDMI outputs, built-in Wi-Fi connectivity for Internet radio or audio and photo streaming, plus front and back USB ports.

Dr. Chris Liauw, Founder, is the Designer of the innovative Curvi-Hifi loudspeaker called Model 1 Version 2, launched at the Sound & Vision Manchester Show 2009. The Curvi loudspeaker, which took four years of development, is based on a full range drive unit from E J Jordan Designs. By using only one driver there is no need for crossovers so sound reproduction is fluid and very realistic. The laminated birch-wood cabinet design is patented, and is not only artistic but offers particular acoustic advantages as the curved tapered shape avoids the inherent problems of sound reflection with conventional speaker cabinets, while the total length of 2.4 m, together with the special acoustic foam and damping, enables a fast and extended bass response.

DALI Fazon 5.1 lifestyle speaker system

Alan Porter, Marketing Manager DALI UK, presents the new stylish designed Fazon speaker system at the Sound & Vision Manchester Show 2009. On demo was a 5.1 set-up in high-gloss white (also in high-gloss black) with a price tag of £1800. The subwoofer is very compact but offers 120W of amplification, using two 6.5 inch woofers. The remote control included allows you to correct settings from your sofa! The satellite speakers have an aluminium chassis with speaker grills that are held on by magnets. Underneath, the renowned DALI wood-fibre cone technology is used for the 4.5 inch mid-range driver, complemented by a 1.1 inch soft-dome tweeter. Easy to install, either with the stand or wall mount included in the pack, they also offer a 360° swivel feature to use as the center speaker in a Home Cinema configuration. For a 2.1 set-up the list price for a satellite is just £259 and the sub goes for £549.

Sonos ZonePlayer S5 in demo

Ian Barnett presents the new portable, wireless Sonos S5 ZonePlayer with built-in speakers on demo for the first time at the Sound & Vision Manchester Show 2009. Sonos, known for high quality, easy-to-use wireless audio systems, launches a model including speakers: two tweeters, two 3-inch midrange drivers, and an active 3.5-inch subwoofer, with five power amplifiers on board. The system can be controlled by an iPhone, but is not an iPod docking station. It will play back audio from any typical source like an iTunes library, NAS drive, free internet radio stations, or subscription music services and offers 2 ethernet ports as well as stereo jack plug. The Sonos S5 will then send audio to any Sonos-equipped zone in the house via its proprietary wireless network. Many additional features will be offered with the new software, with a focus on Twitter and social networking options.
