This is something i noticed in google sites, The image on right explains it.

The Spell Check wraps over Normal Text and the H4. The word it sees is ColorThis and spelling is wrong. If i add a white space after Color, then its ok.

This was seen on Firefox.

JS and SQL Visual IDE

I use Google Apps and saw the Google App Engine - Google Code.

If a Online Visual IDE is created with only JS and SQL coder input interface as a front end. Python, Ajax Libraries, Java (server side) in the background. Halfbaked Coders like me can create simple Input Gadgets/Pages and Report pages/gadgets (html) or even applications.

Server side components or Complex Ajax client side parts as visual modules/components with drag drop icon and set parameters.

Probably like what was Symantec Visual Cafe or Borland JBuilder, but entirely online like Google Gadgets Editor.

Insert Gadget always on Top

I have a page layout with 3-4 sections set by layout. When i Insert gadget in fotter, right panel or center, the gadget still comes on Top. When i drag it to other panel, there are two copies of gadget. If the page is long it is very difficult to insert gadget at bottom area.

There may be a way, i still did not find a way. That's the feedback, all fine but could be easier. Feedback on Google Sites.

Google Sites has a Blog that has a rss/atom feed. 10 posts per page. If i have 20 pages means 200 posts; the only way to find an old post is by using the built in site search. Tags and Archive are not yet there.

So i tried out an experiment it works, Custom tagging using the search. see the top of this blog itself - Open Feedback.

Place a Tag as shown below, ofgs, a mnemonic which in not an English word. ofgs stands for "open feedback google sites"

Then the word with a link like this Google Sites

Forms Spreadsheets in Sites

I just tried adding a form from Google Docs Creating Forms. It works well in google sites and is an easy way to get user feedback, communication or even take a customer order for a product.

The form can be embedded in a site page and the results are recorded in a spreadsheet in your google docs account.

I have some feedback on this .

After form filled / submit done, focus can return to top of page like target _top. As some forms long and response is at top.
Response page could match the theme for aesthetics. or Plain White.
When editing form, The Text entry field could be set longer or shorter. Drag and set length of entry text field.

Apple Bakery and Targeted Search

Searching for Apple Stores could give some selections like Computers, Fruits, Bakery, Condiments. Clicking on Bakery should give Hungary, Australia, Jordon. Where Three Good Apple Cakes Bakeries are present. This is similar to the feature that is present in google.com/coop as Refinements. More depth or sub-categories. Even clusty.com goes to one level of depth. Second depth is got by more keywords. Many need hints.

Most of the questions i get from people (online) cause' many do not know how to use the full power of search. I am able to get to most information i seek, by using Multiple Keyword, Trials. It works like magic when a combination tunes or resonates to the content of the page i wanted.

(This feedback few years old, just found it as i am moving things into a seagate desktop drive. From that i got an idea, computer enthusiasts can also build a mini-cloudlet for studying cloud computing and webapps locally. Not a USB but a ethernet interface to a box with atom processor minimum board and a Tera byte disk. Loaded with a tiny webserver and webapps. A full computer can do this but expensive, just an atom, linux for a web server (like they have in routers) power on its ready no other software for that box. 100$ box to boost your computer to the future, at least start training)

Applets like News, Tickers and Micro Webinars, Live Interactive Video (educational) etc. may go well with the networked community which can use them as tools on the Profile Page or embed. This can include Product Catalogs and Shop/Store View with Payment integration

Contextual Search Results

The search results can be shown in two panes, one normal, another on right flavored or biased, weighted by the earlier searches and browser mood data. This can happen without log in. Snap an option and a right panel results based on moods comes up.

These right hand results can include social sites too as these are too many and have to be filtered and cleaned a lot. Good value is there in social sites too, but it is like a needle in a haystack.

Font formatting gets applied to gadgets like Announcements, If a Gadget Like Announcements summary is inserted into a Text area Italic, the gadget text turns italic.

I could add a Slideshow in a page, another option may be useful in that feature, Slideshow or Thumbnails. If Thumbnails is selected matrix can be set by user like 4 x 4. The page shows thumbnails. On click expands on same page or goes to album.

Another feature may be nice, a Picasa Photo URL is put, a thumbnail is shown, on Hover or click it expands to full size on ajax. This will help build shopping cart or product showcase.

Lastly pagination on announcements page could be configurable 5-15, it now is fixed 10. 5 when Large Images are blogged like wallpaper. Drag-Scroll View for Large Drawings or Photos may be useful as Sites does not allow custom scripts. This is Required for Viewing CAD, Architecture and 3D Image Types within a 600 x 600 View area.

Feed gadget did not work with google books RSS feed. Iframe gadget works. In relation to that, the Google reader, tags, public. add a snippet to site. The links should go target "_top" ( like feedburner). it can break from frames. (google reader feed snippet for blog)

I found a way to create a rss-xml feed automatically, but it may be a bit unconventional.

I have still not tested it and i will complete and record in this post. I answered earlier in a forum the same solution. I am trying here.

1 - Make a News or Announcement page in google sites - you can even make a news page a home page.

2 - Make a post, In menu "Subscribe to changes", then you get a mail in Gmail for every post (or change).

3 - Make a Filter in Gmail, and in the Filter Forward these mail to a "Post to Blogger" email for a new blog.

4 - This new blog will be a mirror of your announcement page at google sites, use the blooger feed.

Now you have a Blogger feed which shows your Google Site updates on the news page.

You can later use feedburner to make it compatible. You can see the feed on this site sidebar

A Global Tagging system, Under every post like this and files even pages. This may help reader find related media on the same site. A Optional tag cloud at the footer to complement the Sidebar and Search which are good.

The Breadcrumb can come both at top and bottom of a page, it helps when a page is very long, it saves scrolling back.

It would be very useful to have another Web Element for Web Designers.

An Ultra-Light 30px Toolbar on top of a Web page. This will have a Myriad of (layman) User Selectable Features from Google Services and JavaScript Tools. (for Developers, it can be programmable or api). Manageable or Dynamically Configurable for Logged in users. A SSI - CGI type of Server Side Generated Toolbar can help inserting the toolbar in all pages without updating html.

Suppose i add this code to the html of my website after selecting the tools i need; i will find a 30px toolbar at top of every page, blending closely with the site theme. A logo and link to the website home page will make every toolbar unique .

These are Features for the Site Toolbar, which i think may improve the usability and interactivity of a Website for its Audience.
