CIS Toastmasters wishes you a happy and prosperous new year. May all your wishes come true and all your resolutions hold firm.

Our first meeting of the year will be on the 17th of January. Our VP membership, Blake Matthews, will send out the meeting program within the next week.

If you are thinking of taking up public speaking, pay us a visit and find out how Toastmasters can benefit you. If you like what you see, you can join us as a member. You can join Toastmasters anytime as our training is self-paced.

Cancelled meeting will be held on 6th of December

The meeting that was scheduled for 29 of November was cancelled due to a power failure.

Andy van Wyk, club president, has decided that there will be a meeting on the 6th of December to compensate for this unfortunate cancellation.

We apologise for the inconvenience and are looking forward to see you on the 6th of December.

CIS Toastmasters awarded Distinguished Club status.

Meeting held on 15 November

On 15 November 2011 CIS Toastmasters Club was awarded Distinguished Club status for the year 2010 – 2011. Immediate Past District Governor Rob Douglas presented the award to Immediate Past President of the Club, Deleen Levy. Deleen, who served as Club President from 2009 – 2011, received a Certificate of Excellence for her execution of her two-year Presidency.
The Prepared Speeches and the Impromptu Speeches provided an extremely interesting and entertaining evening.
At the end of every Club meeting, there are four awards presented for the evening. The following awards were presented:
Table Topics (impromptu speaking) Jennifer Roberts ;Best Evaluator of evening, Muriel Siddle; Toastmaster of the evening, Claudia Tijssen; Best speaker of the evening, Jennifer Roberts.

CIS Toastmasters 1 November 2011

We held our 926th meeting on the 1st of November. The best speaker of the evening was Frank Ramos, who presented his fifth speech from the Competent Communicator training manual. Tarriro Kwaramba did his first speech also known as the ice breaker. Xolani Mbanga successfully completed his second speech from the same series. Lynne Mclintock did an advanced speech from the bronze series.
The best evaluator was Deleen Levy, who evaluated Lynne Mclintock’s speech. The master of ceremonies for the evening was Cyril Chessex, who was also awarded best toastmaster of the evening.
Our next meeting is on the 15th of November at Old Ed’s in Houghton. Guests are welcome to join us for the evening. Contact any of the executive members. Contact numbers are on the right-hand side.

CIS Toastmasters club meeting

Meeting number 924 – held on 11 October 2011.

Club president, Andy van Wyk, who is back with us after a visit to the UK, welcomed everyone. Iggy Mazibeli, our VP membership, warmly welcomed our guests after which VP education, Blake Matthews, announced the programme changes.

Xolani Mbanga said grace followed by JJ Ntshangase, who proposed the toast to Toastmasters International. Next up was James Ellis, who explained to us what his role as grammarian for the evening would entail. James also provided us with the word of the evening, which was the word inept.

Tania Billings followed on by telling us what she would be looking out for as uhm- counter. Lynne Mclintock, who was timekeeper for the evening, explained how the timekeeping would work and also demonstrated the time lights to us. Simba Morumo was voted best impromptu speaker by the audience.

Andy van Wyk relinquished control over to the toastmaster for the evening, Tim Verity.

Tim introduced the first speaker of the evening, Anna Dybicz, who presented her ice breaker speech as well as told us more about herself. Ebrahim Haffajee was our second speaker and also presented his first public speech.

Israel Ngobane presented his third speech and was followed by Aubrey Ngobeni, who gave his fourth speech. The evaluators for the first four speakers broke away to evaluate the speeches, while Blake Matthews presented the table topics session in order to test the audience’s impromptu speaking skills.

After the impromptu speaking session, the prepared speaking session resumed. Frank Ramos gave his speech and was followed by Kazik Blonski. The final speech of the evening was presented by Nico du Plessis, who presented his first speech in the silver series.

Dinner recess followed after which Rob Douglas presented the evaluation session, during which the evaluators gave feedback on the different prepared speeches. After the evaluation session, the grammarian and uhm counter gave us feedback on our use of language.

Cyril Chessex was up next to perform a general evaluation of how the meeting was conducted.

The evening was concluded with the handing out of trophies by Andy van Wyk.
The trophy for evaluator of the evening was shared by Ben Steyn and Zoya Mabuto.
Bharati Patel won the trophy for best impromptu speaker. Tim Verity was awarded best toastmaster of the evening. The best speaker of the evening award went to Nico du Plessis.
