He died in Switzerland on the 6th of October 2009. He was 82 years old.

As he belonged to the NLF (National Front of Liberation), he was jailed in Fresnes (France) in 1958. He managed to escape from jail disguised as a priest and went to Germany.

Very close from Ben Bella, he became deputy in 1962 then minister of Work, minister of Economy, minister of Industry and Energy and finally minister of Information between 1962 and 1965.

He was elected at the head of the National Council in 1997. He use to live between Alger and Lausanne.
