Islamophobic Attacks on Campus

Alhamdulillaah.

There have been numerous attacks against Muslim students at CITY UNIVERSITY CAMPUS beginning this Monday (2nd November 2009), from local thugs, including three stabbings (against Muslims) on Thursday (5th November 2009) around Angel Station area. On Thursday, the thugs damaged the recently refurbished Gloucester Building entrance by hurling rocks and bricks at it, targetting the Muslim students that are stuck inside the glass cage.

The Muslims students of City University only stood firm to defend themselves against these brutal attacks and do not consider any attacks in revenge.

Fear Allaah and place your trust in Allaah wherever you are, and know that Allaah will never abandon the Muslims and the trials we face will only make us stronger and united. We win both ways. Alhamdulillaah.
Please be cautious and go home early and in groups; never split or head off on your own.
Sisters are encouraged not to be around University after dark; if you can, rather you should head home before Maghrib, through open roads, or request that your family pick you up.
Although attacks are against Muslims; non-Muslims are also encouraged to take care of themselves and be cautious of any suspicious behaviour. Our concern is not restricted to Muslim welfare only.
Make sure to let the University know of your concerns regarding the security of the Muslim students on campus.

The University is encouraged to add more security cameras and place more security that cover the entire area, as the Gloucester Building entrance is surrounded by small alleyways/roads, and it is VERY risky for students to leave the building as the vicious thugs can attack from any and every hidden corner (and they have). The current, ONE, camera does not even record anything beyond (inside) the entrance! The attackers (and amongst them the stabber) also attacked four Muslims (victims) right outside Social Sciences building (they gathered their crew of pests right at its entrance) and NO security guards came to the Muslims’ aid, and they were just sitting inside.

The Muslims at City University only seek to reconcile and forgive and forget what is happening, and the next step of reconciliation is for the attackers to take.

Remember the words of our Ameer, our Ustaadh and our brother in Islaam just a week ago (28.10.09) during the ‘Aqeedah (Mandatory Belief/Creed of a Muslim) course at this very university, when he had unknowingly trained us for what befell us in this week of vicious, malevolent attacks… Allaah prepares us as He wills and Allaah loves the believers, the righetous, the pious and Allaah will never disgrace us - His slaves - up till the Day, when there will be no shade except His Shade. Allaahu Akbar.

We ask Allaah to increase our eemaan and make us of those who think nothing but ‘good of Him, the most High’. Aameen.

That day - 2nd of November 09 - was the initiation of our Charity Week, where we intended to raise the remaining £100,000 to complete three medical aid projects in India, Pakistan and Somalia, which a couple of Islamic Societies had started last year on behalf of UWT.

The whole mood was ruined and shattered by a series of events and these thugs that were waiting outside after Maghrib to prey on the Muslims.

Qaddarullaah, of the three who were injured on Monday, two of them were the organizers of Charity Week ‘09 for City University and the third was our Ameer. Nevertheless these brothers still came in during the second day, with their broken skulls and continued with their noble deed, with the intent to please none but Allaah; helping their brothers and sisters in Islaam.

The cries of those poor, homeless, orphaned, widowed, oppressed are louder than our cries and their injuries more severe.

Pray for them thrice as much as you pray for us and give them your support as they are more in need of it than us. WaAllaahi this will be a great, noble support indeed, in the Path of Allaah azza wa jall.

Help us by helping them; defend us by defending them. One Ummah; One Body. Heal their pain and you will heal us inshaa’Allaah.

Donor’s Guide

An A4 plackard which can be printed and laminated with wire binding to show to donors and briefly describe to them the projects. Pictures speak louder than words…

Printing in A4 colour and laminating them (back to back) and binding costs approximately £6 (can be done in the basement of College Building in the laminating shop). The fundraiser can either pay for the making of the plackard themselves, or the ISoc will repay them the £6 inshaa’Allaah. One plackard amongst a group of fundraisers is better than a plackard for each; saves a lot of money.

This plackard was used last year as well and alhamdulillaah it was successful in its use.

Charity Week 2009 - Medical Aid Project - 2nd Nov to 8th Nov

Assalaamu ‘Alaikum Warahmatullaahi Wabarakaatuh

The Islamic Society of City University, Queen Mary University, Kingston University, Goldsmith University, Greenwich University, and the University of East London are honoured and pleased to launch and present an exciting, blessed and virtuous project; “Charity Week 2009.”

Charity Week 2009 is intended to serve the purpose of attaining the love of Allaah, seeking His pleasure and seeking His most honorable Face. In order to achieve this, we aim to serve the people in need; the poor, the orphans, and the elderly and others through projects and schemes that strictly adhere to the beautiful sharee’ah.

Serving the poor and the elderly is a communal obligation (fard kifaayah) upon us, as they should be provided with a life of dignity and they must be given all human rights in full. Undoubtedly there is much good in doing that and whatever is spent on their care will be recorded with multiple rewards, inshaAllaah. Allaah says:

“The likeness of those who spend their wealth in the way of Allaah, is as the likeness of a grain (of corn); it grows seven ears, and each ear has a hundred grains. Allaah gives manifold increase to whom He wills. And Allaah is All-Sufficient for His creatures’ needs, All-Knower”

[al-Baqarah 2:261]

In addition, by doing this we are relieving distress and hardship, and helping our fellow Muslim brothers and sisters. This is strongly encouraged by the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) when he said in a hadeeth narrated by Abu Hurayrah (may Allaah be pleased with him):

“Whoever removes a worldly hardship from a believer, Allaah will remove one of the hardships of the Day of Resurrection from him. Whoever grants respite to (a debtor) who is in difficulty, Allaah will grant him relief in this world and in the Hereafter. Whoever conceals (the fault of) a Muslim in this world, Allaah will conceal him (his faults) in this world and in the Hereafter. Allaah will help a person so long as he is helping his brother.”

This year the Islamic Society of City University & the five aforementioned Islamic Societies have decided to come together to launch, complete and maintain three heartwarming projects in three different regions and locations around the world. Each project is medically related and will serve to establish health facilities, hospitals, as well as providing a free health care service (free diagnosis, medicine & health educations) for displaced people who cannot afford these things that we take for granted.

The first of the three regions we intend to liberate from the pain, suffering and difficulties of a lack of accessible medicine and health care institutes is the region of The North West Frontier Province of Pakistan; the Peshawar/Nowshehra/Swabi district. Peshawar is a very poor place and due to conflicts and disasters there are many widows, orphans and poor people who cannot afford basic medical treatment. We therefore propose to establish a permanent base for a medical centre, which could facilitate medical projects on a long-term basis. This base could also become the central avenue from where doctors can be dispatched and mobile medical ambulances to patients whom are unable to attend the centre. The centre will have various medical facilities including X-Ray, ECG, Blood Bank Laboratory, along with a 24 hour based emergency facility for ODP (Out Door Patients). Another saddening fact in the NWFP is that many women struggle during childbirth with some dying as a result. We would therefore include within this centre a dedicated section for labour to aid our sisters in these situations.

The second region is the village of Behrampura/Ahmedabad of Gujarat, where we have decided to set up a Dialysis centre. We presently have 2000 square feet of space and aim to construct a 6000 square feet building, necessary for the dialysis centre. At present the dialysis centre is running at Mariyam hospital but due to the lack of space within the hospital it cannot function efficiently. Therefore if, with the help of Allaah, we developed it independently we can assist 600/700 people every month and thus annually the centre can benefit more than 8000 people inshaAllaah.

The third and final region for this incredible project is the Mogadishu village in the Banadir region of Somalia. Here, we intend to establish a heath facility in the Mogadishu IDP camp. The centre will enable the poor families to get free diagnosis, free medicine & free health educations as the displaced families in the outskirt of Mogadishu are suffering from lack of health care, and the existing few little health facilities take from patients large amounts of money which these displaced people cannot afford to pay it. Therefore, by the permission of Allaah, this project will take an important role in aiding the poor families in Mogadishu and help to cover their needs to health services.

The combined total that these projects require is £120,000. The Islamic Societies of City University & the five other aforementioned Islamic Societies will be raising and collecting money on behalf of Ummah Welfare Trust (UWT) who have a strict 0% charge for administration costs, therefore every penny you donate will go directly towards the building, construction and maintaining of this blessed project. Abu Hurayrah (may Allaah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said:

“The good deeds that will reach a believer after his death are: knowledge which he learned and then spread; a righteous son whom he leaves behind; a copy of the Qur’aan that he leaves as a legacy; a mosque that he built; a house that he built for wayfarers; a canal that he dug; or charity that he gave during his lifetime when he was in good health. These deeds will reach him after his death.”

Donating money to establish charitable hospitals or healthcare centres are amongst the means of an ongoing charity that will benefit the donor after he/she has passed away. We therefore would like to humbly ask all brothers and sisters to donate as much money as possible for this great cause. Moreover, we would be tremendously grateful if brothers and sisters could kindly pass this message on to others, thus making people aware of this project inshaAllaah.

Finally, we pray to Allaah that He envelopes us in His mercy, that He keeps our intentions sincere and that He opens for us the doors of Paradise through the gates of giving charity, Aameen.

And may Allaah send peace and blessings upon His slave and the seal of the Prophets and Messengers, Muhammad, his family, his companions and upon all those who follow his way until the last day. Aameen.

At this time of confusion, heresy and division, it is essential for the Muslim to check on his belief and his approach to Islaam, so that he may be certain that he is following the path of the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) and the early generation of Muslims. Without this checking, a Muslim may live his whole life, following a foreign approach to that of the Messenger of Allaah, whilst thinking that he is doing the right thing, only to find out, when it is too late, that this path leads to the Fire of Hell.

Join us to study a detailed and heart-warming explanation of the pillars of eemaan using the famous Hadeeth of Jibreel in a clear and straightforward style.
