"body": "June 4, 2024City Tech Library WebsiteProject DescriptionThis project is a repository for the Ursula C. Schwerin Library of the New York City College of Technology (City Tech), CUNY. Moving away from a Drupal installation, the site was coded using Jekyll and Liquid, and utilizes YAML files to create the site’s navigation, content, and breadcrumbs. Bootstrap 5. 3 is the web framework used due to it’s mobile forward design. It utilizes the [Lunr] (https://lunrjs. com/) search engine for client-side searching. It was coded by Abubakar R. Tidal, Jr. (Junior), Web Services & Multimedia Librarian, Professor, during the spring and summer terms of 2024. Project Requirements and DependenciesThis project requires the requirements of Jekyll as well as some PHP to run some code here and there. How to Set up and Run the ProjectFork and install onto your system. Use ‘jekyll build’ on Linux-based systems to create the site in the _sites folder and copy the files onto your favorite web server. Update the _config. yml file to add your domain. Edit and share what you wish so long you adhere to a [CC BY-NC-SA License] (https://creativecommons. org/licenses/by-nc-sa/4. 0/) How to make use of the ProjectThis project is probably most useful for other academic libraries that want to move away from database run websites. NoteThe orientation directory is a WIP. We stand with you in mourning the disproportionate impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on Black communities and other people of color at City Tech and in our city. We stand with and support the brave acts of protest and calls for action in response to the murders of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Tony McDade, Philando Castile, Eric Garner, Sandra Bland, and many others at the hands of law enforcement. We demand accountability for the lives who have been effectively dismantled due to a dual-natured justice system that has unfairly penalized members of the Black community who were full of promise, especially our students here at City Tech. We will not be silent, and will work mindfully and intentionally to dismantle systemic racism and inequality through the use of our physical and virtual spaces, and our library resources. We will actively do this work in collaboration with faculty, staff, and students across the campus community. We commit to the following actions in our library work. Our antiracist and antioppression work in the library is and must be ongoing, thus this list is necessarily incomplete, and serves as a starting point. We commit to antiracism in our work together as library faculty and staff, including creating community agreements and practicing calling each other in. We commit to ensuring that you will never be forced into the position of having to defend your humanity and your dignity as Black students, faculty, and staff. We recognize that everyone in the City Tech community has a right to privacy, and we will act to minimize surveillance to mitigate oppression. We will work to build print and digital collections in our library and archives that are antiracist and antioppressive, and we will acknowledge and reevaluate the nuance involved in maintaining our collections. We will work to counter white supremacy and hegemony in the library by creating space for alternative forms of expression and ways of knowing. We will actively work to create forums for our students to share their experiences when they interact with someone who falls short of these declarations. Textbooks that students are required to purchase or rent for their courses are acquired for reserve (as funding permits) only to provide back-up support. The reserve collection is not intended as an alternative to purchasing or renting required materials. The library will purchase some required texts that serve the curricular or research needs of our users, but cannot commit to purchasing copies of all required texts, much less multiple copies of any title. Items such as study guides and workbooks will not be purchased by the library. When a book is no longer required by an instructor, or if no instructor requests to have that title placed on reserve, it will be removed from reserve and its status reassessed. The collections also serve college faculty and administrators with materials useful in higher education program planning, curriculum development, management, classroom teaching, information and educational technologies, and resources about college students. Interlibrary loan and networking arrangements with other libraries are available for research needs. Since the library does not collect at the research level, faculty are encouraged to use other institutions within CUNY, Academic Libraries of Brooklyn (ALB), and METRO or interlibrary loan. "

L540 is the library’s main teaching space, with capacity for 30 students at PC workstations, an instructor PC, two projectors, and two screens. There is a black and white laser printer and a dry-erase board. The library welcomes requests from faculty from other departments interested in making use of the active learning capabilities of L540. To make access as equitable as possible, we want faculty to be familiar with our policies for using L540 without a librarian: Requests are considered on a case-by-case basis L540 bookings are limited to the class meeting time Weekend and evening hours are sometimes available L540 is unavailable when the library is closed Drinks and food are not allowed in the library Classes must leave the room as they found it, and instructors must remain with their students Please know that scheduling library instruction sessions takes priority throughout the year. To request use of L540, please email Prof. Anne Leonard one week in advance of your desired date. There is usually more flexibility and availability at these times: After November BreakAfter Spring BreakMost Fridays Summer and January sessions Tech support is generally available weekdays (9-5) during Fall and Spring semesters. We have limited ability to provide tech support at other times. Class visits to the library are by appointment only. Read our complete class visits policy. "

Library exhibits showcase educational, artistic, cultural, and informational materials for the City Tech community--our students, faculty, and staff. These exhibits support the educational mission of the college and the university by highlighting local scholarship and items of interest to the college community. Factors to be considered include suitability for a college audience, educational value, thematic coherence and aesthetic appeal. Exhibit applications may come from departments, groups and individual members of the City Tech community. Groups or individuals not affiliated with City Tech may apply to use the exhibit space with a sponsor from within the college community. If a proposed exhibit has outstanding merit, the CLE may choose to act as that sponsor. Applications for the use of library exhibit space for the purpose of sponsoring displays must reach the Committee on Library Exhibits (CLE) a semester prior to the proposed exhibit dates. Length of the exhibit will be determined along with the CLE. Exhibitors are responsible for assembling exhibit materials and for installing and removing their own exhibit from the cases (including any cleanup necessary) in a timely manner, a schedule for which will be determined with the CLE at the time of approval. The library does not provide long-term storage for exhibit contents. Explanatory text and clear labels must accompany exhibit materials and will be approved by the CLE prior to installation. The library department is a co-sponsor of all exhibits and, as such, assumes the final authority over displays. The library will not approve exhibits that focus exclusively on one side of a controversial issue or exhibits designed for commercial gain. "

Schwerin Library on campus. For videos or other multimedia, please call the Multimedia Resources center at (718) 260-5476 or stop by the Multimedia Resources center office in L431. How Do I Use Interlibrary Loan?: Request a book or article by logging into ILLiad; first-time users should create an ILLiad account. Library users must create an ILLiad account to place ILL requests. Check CUNY OneSearch and full text e-journals to be sure that City Tech does not already own the item you want. Include as much information as possible about the book or article you need, including the ISSN or ISBN, edition, format, language. Library users should resolve any blocks on their library accounts before using ILL. Many libraries do not lend multimedia or reference books through interlibrary loan. When Will The Item I Requested Be Available? How Long Can I Keep It?: Books are typically available to pick up in 7-14 days. Articles are typically available to download in 1-7 days. However, please keep in mind that waiting times vary for each individual request. You can track your requests by logging on to your ILLiad account. The library that lends the item determines the borrowing period; renewals may be requested in ILLiad from the Transaction Information page. Interlibrary Loan Privacy Practice and Policies: Starting after the end of semester Fall 2020, we will begin regularly deleting past interlibrary loan requests. This is an effort to greater protect your privacy and align with other privacy policies in the library. We will delete requests twice a year, once in January following the fall semester and once in June following the spring semester. At that time, we will keep only open requests as well as any requests from the past 30 days so that you can continue to download any electronically received articles. </span> Electronically received articles will still continue to expire after 30 days. </p>For the first round, we will delete past requests in January 2021, so please save any citations or information that you need to from your requests before that time. (If you’re not already using a citation manager, might we recommend Zotero). We also delete student ILL accounts if the account has been inactive for 3 years or more, and we delete faculty & staff ILL accounts if they have been inactive for 5 years or more. If your account has been deleted due to inactivity but you wish to place an ILL request, you can create a new account by registering. Information For Other Libraries: City Tech loans most books for twelve weeks with two renewals. We charge what you charge for loans or photocopies; otherwise we lend free. We do not loan reference books, bound periodicals, multimedia, or items from course reserves. We participate in the METRO free interchange of photocopy program. Technically yes, but it is very rare that libraries will lend multimedia materials because of their popularity, value, and vulnerability to damage. For this reason, City Tech does not lend any multimedia material through ILL and to select CUNY campuses. Check our own multimedia collection first. If the material is available at another CUNY library the faculty member should consult directly with multimedia services staff at the respective college. You can track your requests by logging on to your ILLiad account. How do I know my ILL item has arrived? You will receive an email notification. If it is an electronic article, your email will contain instructions on how to retrieve it. If it is a book (faculty and staff only), it will be available for you to pick up from the Circulation Desk at the Library. We recommend that you use your NYCCT email account to receive ILL email notices. Non-NYCCT email accounts might block our ILLiad-generated emails to you, preventing you from receiving notices about ILL books and articles. You can update your email address in your ILLiad account. How long are article files available on the ILL server? Electronic articles are stored in the ILL server for 30 days for a maximum of 5 viewings. How do I renew ILL items? If the ILL label on the item you borrowed does not say “NO RENEWALS,” and you have not already reached the due date you can request a renewal in ILLiad/ILL. Log on, click on View > Checked Out Items, and click on the transaction number of the item to renew. The loan period is approved by the Lending Library only. Loan periods thus vary based on the Lending Library's policies. If you are not able to renew items via the webpage you can also email us at <a href=mailto: interlibraryloan@citytech. cuny. edu >interlibraryloan@citytech. cuny. edu</a>, and we can put through the renewal manually. The loan period for the item I requested is not long enough. Is there anything I can do? You can always request a renewal through the ILL website or by emailing us at interlibraryloan@citytech. cuny. edu. If we are unable to get a renewal on an ILL item you have checked out, we can also put in another request for the item. That way when you return the first one, we can have a second of the same item on its way to you. Does ILL cost anything? NYCCT does not charge requesting patrons for ILL, unless items are lost or damaged. Once an overdue item has exceeded six weeks, your library account may be billed for the cost of the replacement. </div>"

"body": "Mission Statement: The Ursula C. Schwerin Library at New York City College of Technology is integral to the educational mission of the college, and fosters connections with and supports students, faculty, and staff in their academic pursuits. Library faculty and staff are committed to student success as we implement and acquire those services and resources that will have the greatest positive impact on the diverse City Tech community. The library offers physical and online access to academic resources, information technology, and study space. Our collections provide our students with opportunities for intellectual exploration, and library faculty empower students to find and critically evaluate information and its uses. As members of an academic department in the college, library faculty research, innovate, and lead on issues in library and information studies, scholarly communications, instructional technology, pedagogy, and higher education. A History of the City Tech Library: By Eustace O. Burnett: Pearl Street, Franklin, Namm, Concord, Livingston, Voorhees, Jay Street. There were the libraries of City Tech. They are all gone now but from the many has come one - the Atrium Library. Pearl Building: The first library was set up in the Pearl Building. It was the only building on campus and the official address was 300 Pearl Street. Nobody seems to remember when the library was opened - best guess is late forties or early fifties - but they do recall that it was, in many ways, a microcosm of the college; that is, much of the furnishings and even its book collection came from the surplus of city and other government agencies. In an allotted space, the equivalent of five classrooms spread out under a ceiling crisscrossed with naked plumbing, it was a cramped operation outdated before its first day of service. The library, although important to the college, was not a top priority. After the initial set-up exercise it suffered several years of benign neglect. An unfavorable report from Middle States brought the library's condition to the administration's attention and, in 1957, Leonard Cohan was appointed chief librarian with the view of setting things right. Library progress in 1961 was marked by a professional faculty of three very versatile librarians. The Chief, in addition to his administrative tasks, was his own acquisitions person and took turns at reference as necessary. The cataloger was also a reference person and assisted at circulation if needed. The reference librarian worked circulation too. There was a department secretary who was also acquisitions typist and a C. O. A. equivalent who did technical processing. The book collection had, at most, 10,000 volumes complemented by about forty periodical titles. Seating was still a shoehorn affair but the place was busy serving the college community sixty hours per week. That year was one of optimism for the college and particularly for the library. Klitgord Center was brand new and the new academic building (Namm Hall), which included a library, was on the drawing board. Franklin: The Pearl building was filled quickly. To ease the overcrowding, the college acquired from the War Assets Administration the building at Franklin and Flushing Avenues, officially 12 Franklin Avenue. There was a persistent but unsubstantiated rumor that this had been a navy coffin factory. It was not, but it added to the mystique of the place. Graphic arts, commercial art and marketing were in Franklin Hall , and being quite a distance from the main campus it also had a library. There was no telephone service, no student assistants in the first three years, and the nearest phone was in the downstairs office. There was not much room in between; either one liked Franklin or hated it. Whatever opinion one had it was a very interesting place to work and study. The surrounding area had a high concentration of commercial and industrial establishments accompanied by the comings and going of fleets of eighteen-wheelers. In close proximity was a chocolatier and a perfumery whose cloying scents assailed the nose ad nauseam while feathers flowing from the nearby live chicken market, caught in unexpected updrafts, provided snow year-round. Across the street was a large laundry with what seemed to be the world's loudest public address system which summoned Harry all day. Harry, Harry, Telephone! still echoes in the ears. Soot and grit were in abundance. Transportation to the main campus was by bus, by foot (quite a walk) or, if one wanted a view , the Myrtle Avenue E1 (anyone remember that one?). The library with its eight or nine hundred volumes and dozen periodical subscriptions had windows on both avenues and was a receptacle for the exhaust of every motor vehicle passing the busy intersection. It seated twenty and was open sixty hours per week. Circulation was not great for home use but in house use of materials was substantial. Namm: Namm library opened in 1967. Edward Mapp, who succeeded Leonard Cohan in 1964, was chief librarian. Librarians hailed the new addition. After all it was the college's first planned library. There was new furniture and equipment and the budget afforded expansion of book and periodical collections. There was an audiovisual department, a periodicals room and a reference room. Compared to the defunct Pearl library this was a huge establishment. The chief librarian initiated the first library based bibliographic instruction program. To keep pace with an increasing work load the number of librarians went from four to fourteen. Here the book collection reached the 100,000 volume mark. All was not well however. From the beginning it was obvious that the library was too small and Mapp was always on the lookout for space. Eventually the overcrowding was eased by moving technical services into the space where the mailroom stands now and later yet librarians shared desk space in the room with the telephone operators. Another major problem was the placement of the library. It was in the basement, directly under the cafeteria. The location created ventilation problems from the beginning and proximity to the cafeteria brought its own unique problem. Whenever the floors upstairs were washed the water came flowing down to drench some unsuspecting scholar and ruin books and furniture. For variation the water was sometimes replaced with a gooey substance of undetermined composition. This problem defied all solutions and lasted as long as the library did. The main steam conduit for the building passed through the reference room. This provided a year round sauna. After much begging, pleading, threatening and cajoling the administration was persuaded to provide year round air conditioning. This solution brought its own problems. Condensation cascaded down the walls. Bugs liked both the warmth of the conduit and the dampness from the condensation, not to mention the paper and glue of the books. Under these happy (for them) circumstances they moved into the reference room in large numbers and enjoyed the facilities immensely. Namm library lasted twenty years. In 1985 work was started on the Atrium library. Much of the early construction was done in the Namm library while classes where in session. The steel girders were put in while students were at their books and jack hammers and pile drivers made noisy accompaniment to study. Bathrooms in use at the beginning of the hour vanished before the quarter chimed. As the building progressed more library space vanished and it became increasingly compressed. At last the much maligned main steam conduit was dismantled but not before winter came. That meant no heat. Students, librarians and staff stuck it out. Then when it was thought that the worst had passed the entire west wall of the library was torn down and a tarpaulin was hung to shelter the inhabitants from the winter cold. It was the most difficult of times for librarians, staff, and students but almost two years later all were delivered from the nightmare of the Namm library and removed to the Atrium. Concord: Some time in the mid 1960's the college leased space in a building near the entrance to the Manhattan Bridge. The area is rarely without heavy traffic, making the trip across the street on the way to the main campus a hazardous undertaking. The faculty of the engineering technology department used this as a pretext for having a library in the building. A branch was opened, part-time, in 1965, with a very small reference collection. It closed in 1967. Livingston: In 1966 the university opened the College Center at 250 Livingston Street. It was a self-contained unit, occupying the entire sixth floor, intended to provide students with the freshman year of study. The space was renovated to university specifications and all furniture and equipment were new. The library also had a new book collection, purchased preprocessed and ready to be put on the shelves. Most of the administrators and staff, including the librarian, were on loan from New York City Community College, which was responsible for oversight of the project. The library, an airy well-lighted facility, seated fifty readers and offered traditional services. At the end of the academic year the program was ended and that annex became a part of New York City Community College. Graphic arts, marketing and accounting were transferred there along with the books used by those departments. Livingston was closed in 1975 and its collections moved to Namm library. The furnishings were used in the Jay Street library. Voorhees: New York City Community College and Voorhees Technical Institute, an old (1880) institution in the field of technical education, became one in 1971. A self-contained campus, housed in its own building at West 41st Street, Voorhees brought a library, the source of constant headache. Located in a windowless suite of rooms, wedged in between Machine Tool and Welding, library ventilation was piped in from a roof unit. Unfortunately the intake mechanism brought in the exhaust gases from the many idling diesels at nearby Port Authority Bus Terminal. Day's end was usually Bayer time. The library needed much more attention than the other branch, livingston, currently on line. The collection was in serious decline and there was a need for clerical and professional personnel. It was also the period when the university was changing from the Dewey to the Library of Congress Classification scheme. In a relatively short period many new books were added and the collection was rebuilt largely as a closed collection. Library faculty member, Prof. Morris Hounion, was the specialist who did the reclassification. In time the ventilation problem was solved, materials were made current and the library became a strong link in the New York City Community College branch library chain. With the coming of the Atrium library Voorhees was closed. Jay Street: In 1975 the decision was made to abandon the Livingston property. By then the Jay Street building was opened and some of the furniture from Livingston was used in the Jay Street branch library. It was smaller than Livingston but it was a very good facility. The collection was made up, for the most part, of books on engineering technology. Unlike students at other branches which had been more distant from the main campus Jay Street students could depend on the Namm Library for materials they might need in other disciplines. The plan worked well enough but a single library has always been the goal and the plan of the Atrium Library made this a certainty. Work began on the latter in 1985 and on its completion two years later the Jay Street library branch went out of existence and the building was renamed Voorhees. Library Building: In 2018, the Atrium was renamed the Library Building. "

The room is equipped with a 85 plasma screen for screening videos. The room can accommodate approximately 30 students comfortably. The room is reserved for classes and students groups, and not individual usage. The following guidelines must be followed: Faculty must be present at all times while the class is screening a video. The room must be used for screening of films, and is not to be used for regular lecture or instruction. You may bring your own material to screen. It is the responsibility of the faculty member to adhere to licenses and copyright of screening materials. Reservations must be made at least 24 hours in advance but preferably 1-2 weeks in advance to ensure an appointment. The room can only be reserved for up to 2 hours at a time. (exceptions can be made if no one has reserved the room for the following time slot but shall never exceed 3 hours continuously)If you have any questions or concerns about these policies, please feel free to contact Prof. Junior Tidal at ext. 5481. Media Reserves: Copyright and Licenses: DVDs, CDs, audio cassettes, and VHS (video cassettes) at the Ursula C. Schwerin Library’s Multimedia Resource Center (MRC) are used to support classroom instruction, research and study for the City Tech community. These materials are intended for on-site use, and are protected by copyright and/or individual commercial licenses. It is the responsibility of the faculty member to adhere to such protections. Licensing information is available upon request. Some materials in the MRC have public performance rights and may be used outside of the classroom. All other materials must be used within the confines and guidelines of educational Fair Use. Reserves Media: DVDs, VHS, and CDs, from the MRC’s collection may be placed on reserve for a period no longer than 3 weeks. After 3 weeks, the material will be placed back into the MRC’s collection. Requests for reserves may be made a week ahead of time. Multiple requests for titles can be made at the beginning of each semester with specific date ranges of use. Materials placed under reserve may only be used within the MRC and may not be checked out. DVDs, VHS, and CDs, which have been illegally copied, recorded from a television broadcast, or obtained without the copyright holder’s permission, may not be placed on reserve. Even though media titles that have been rented or purchased by faculty may not necessarily come with public performance rights, these materials may also be placed under reserve. This is under the assumption that they are a necessary extension of classroom teaching. Media may not be used for two consecutive semesters or repeatedly for the same course. Please consult with the multimedia librarian for further inquiries or information. The Multimedia Resource Center may not make duplicate copies or digitize any media materials, despite their intended use. At the end of the semester, library owned media will be returned back to the library collection. Faculty will be responsible for picking up instructor owned media at the end of the semester. The library is not responsible for lost or damaged personal videos. Nursing Department Video Reserves: DVDs and VHS owned by the nursing department and placed under reserve in the MRC must be checked in and checked out by nursing faculty or staff only. New videos added to nursing department reserves must come with either a hard copy list or an electronic list of what materials are being added and/or removed from the collection. "body": "Eligibility:: Any City Tech library user with a valid ID card is entitled to have a yellow title METRO Card issued to him or her. METRO referral cards provide library users with access to a specific item that is not available at the City Tech library, within the holdings of CUNY, at an ALB (Academic Libraries of Brooklyn) member library, or at a public library in New York City. If the user is able to verify that a particular title is available only at a METRO member library, then the card request should be honored. Verification guidelines are detailed on the METRO website. City Tech library provides yellow title METRO cards for consultation of a specific title on-site; no borrowing privileges are included. City Tech neither accepts nor issues blue subject referral METRO cards. Issuing a METRO card:: Librarians at the reference desk should exercise their best judgment when determining the eligibility of a pass request. In order to preserve the good institutional relationships that enable the METRO referral system to work well, librarians should call the reference desk of the holding library on behalf of the user, check the METRO website for any restrictions imposed by the holding library, and fill out all of the fields on the METRO card. Librarians issuing METRO cards should make a photocopy of the front of the card and turn it in to the resource sharing coordinator. </p> Visiting a METRO library:: When the card is issued, the librarian should inform the library user that the card is good for one visit only. The librarian should telephone the holding library to confirm library hours and ownership of the item, as well as to find out about any access restrictions. The METRO title referral card (yellow card) does not entitle users to reference assistance or borrowing rights, nor does it guarantee that the material required will be available during the time of the visit. METRO card users should familiarize themselves with the regulations printed on the back of the card (“to the user”) before they visit the METRO member library. </p> For further information, please contact Prof. Ashley Rockenbach or call 718. 260. 5424. For that reason we pledge to make our own research freely available whenever possible by seeking publishers that have either adopted open access policies, publish contents online without restriction, and/or allow authors to self-archive their publications on the web. We pledge to link to and/or self-archive our publications to make them freely accessible. Faculty librarians may submit their work to a publication that does not follow open access principles and will not allow self archiving only if it is clearly the best or only option for publication; however, library faculty will actively seek out publishers that allow them to make their research available freely online and, when necessary, will negotiate with publishers to improve publication agreements. Further, we pledge to devote most of our reviewing and editing efforts to manuscripts destined for open access. Only one podcasting kit can be checked out per person. Loan period: Podcasting kits are loaned for 14 days with 1 renewal. The podcasting kit will be loaned on a first-come, first served basis. You may not reserve a podcasting kit. Returns: Podcasting kits must be returned in good working order to the library’s Multimedia Resource Center 30 minutes before closing. Upon returning, allow a minimum of 30 minutes for inspection. The working condition of the podcasting kit will be inspected by a library staff member before checkout. Upon its return, a staff member will verify that the podcasting kit is in working order before the borrower leaves the desk. It is the borrower’s responsibility to allot 30 minutes for this. Fines and Damages: Borrowers are required to immediately report any problems to the library’s Multimedia Resource Center experienced with the podcasting kit during their borrowing period. Late fines will be charged at the rate of $100 per day to a maximum of $400. If a podcasting kit is more than 4 days overdue, it is considered lost. Borrowers are financially responsible for the podcasting kit loan and must pay all repairs and/or replacement costs resulting from damage or loss. Costs are dependent on the extent of the damage of the podcasting kit. If the podcasting kit is beyond repair, borrowers must pay for the replacement cost of all materials. Repairs include damage from software such as bad applications, malware, and viruses. The replacement cost of a podcasting kit also includes the charger, mouse (if borrowed), and case. The processing fee for lost podcasting kits is $25. A lost and overdue podcasting kit and/or components may result in a maximum fine of $1,500. 00. Borrowers are responsible for damage to and/or loss or theft of loaned units. Do not leave the podcasting kits unattended. In case of an emergency evacuation, take the podcasting kit with you. Noncompliance with the above rules will result in a registration block and suspension of library privileges. Personal Data and Information: The podcasting kit comes with a suite of preloaded applications. Borrowers may add additional data and applications, however all data from the podcasting kit will be wiped and replaced with the standard set of preloaded apps once it is returned to the library. Any additional apps or programs purchased by the borrower during the loan period must be done with the borrower’s own funds. Any data or documents saved to the podcasting kit by the patron during the loan period will be permanently erased during the restore process. "

Faculty may request items for the reserve collectionThe reserve collection is for students and includes required textbooks and readings for City Tech courses. The library can purchase some textbooks for course reserves--ask early! Prior to the beginning of the semester. We also welcome your donations of assigned texts. Questions for the Borrow and Return Desk? Email us. Course Reserve Policies</h3></div> Check the Library’s catalog to determine whether the Library owns a copy of the title you are requesting. Please submit your request as soon as possible, but a minimum of two weeks is required to allow for processing. It will take considerably longer if the Library does not already own the material. The Library cannot purchase all requested materials due to budgetary constraints, but will make its best efforts to fulfill requests. The Library does not purchase copies of textbooks that are available online for students to download for free, such as OpenStax or other OER books (note that students are able to print for free in the Library, iTEC, and Learning Center computer labs). Materials are removed from reserve at the end of each semester unless you indicate otherwise (Please indicate if you are donating the books to the library or not). Instructors are responsible for retrieving personal materials no longer on reserve. Where materials do not fall within Fair Use, they may still be placed on reserve provided the faculty member has received permission from the copyright holder. If permission has not been secured, consult the Faculty & Staff: Fair Use and Copyright - Teaching for guidance. Seeking and obtaining permissions may entail significant costs in fees and take considerable time. These costs must be covered by the faculty member. The City Tech library may limit the number of photocopied items on reserve based on copyright constraints, etc. WARNING CONCERNING COPYRIGHT RESTRICTIONS: The copyright law of the United States (Title 17, United States Code) governs the making of photocopies or other reproductions of copyrighted materials. Under certain conditions specified in the law, libraries and archives are authorized to furnish a photocopy or other reproduction. One of these specified conditions is that the photocopy or reproduction is not to be used for any purpose other than private study, scholarship, or research. If a user makes a request for, or later uses, a photocopy or reproduction for purposes in excess of fair use, that user may be liable for copyright infringement. This institution reserves the right to refuse to accept a copying order if, in its judgment, fulfillment of the order would involve violation of copyright law. Over 100 students completed a short survey. Using a qualitative approach to data analysis surfaced important themes and showed us the college community’s priorities for their library. Conclusion: Each year we will note accomplishments in each thematic area. Recognizing that planning is cyclical, we will collect feedback from the college community to help us identify themes and issues to integrate into future plans. By early 2026 we will form a working group and set a time frame for the development of the next 3 to 5 year strategic plan. Acknowledgements: Library Strategic Planning Working Group members:Suraya Choudhury, Prof. Nanette Johnson,Prof. Kel Karpinski,Prof. Anne Leonard. Prof. Junior Tidal,Data analysis specialist: Andrea Espinoza. Thank you to all students, staff, faculty, and administrators who took the time to participate in a focus group or complete a survey. Because of your input, our plan reflects the library’s essential role on campus. "
