Erickson - Some things I Bet You Didn't Know

I had an opportunity to visit the Erickson the other day. The Erickson is one of Concord's premier and signature buildings designed by Arthur Erickson himself. The building is unique in that it does have a twist, so when viewed from the outside it looks like it is twisting upwards. The building just completed in the first week of February and there is still a chance to own a piece of luxury. During the tour there were some things that I realized just don't exsist in other buildings in Vancouver.

*The pool is ozonated. Very cool. Your bathing suit doesn't get wrecked from the chlorine, ditto for the new color job on your hair.

*In the gym and the pool there is an I-pod/Iphone sound dock so you can listen to your own music while you work out. Plus it is wired for sound in the pool so you can hear the music under the water while you swim.

*The ammenities include a hair salon, open by appointment, for exclusive use of the residents.

*The lobby has a Fendi player piano. Uber cool! It plays classical music whilst looking ultra classy.

*There are seven elevators for 60 suites. The penthouse has its own exclusive elevator. Each 01, 02 and 03 suite has an elevator shft that is exlcusive for those suites that opens to the kitchen area of your suite. There are two guest elevators - just in case you ordered a pizza.

*Most of the suites sport dividing patio doors, which allow you to expand your living area to the patio seamlessly. This allows you to take in some of the best views in the city.

*The mirror in the master bathroom has a T.V. in it. Looking at the mirror you would never know the T.V. was there. Very C.S.I. and would allow you to have a bath and watch said show.

Tarps over Buildings does not Equal Leaky

Just because there are tarps over a building in Vancouver does not automatically mean that it is a leaky condo. In most cases when there is any kind of balcony work, or roof work, or windows being replaced the tarp is needed. Just dont assume that you know it is leaking without doing some investigation into the situation.

There is absolutely nothing worse then being the listing agent on a building with tarps and explaining it all very carefully to a prospective buyer why the tarps are there, then having some dunce float down the sidewalk and start chatting with the Buyer after the showing, only to hear from said idiot - "ya that building leaks - it has tarps on it."

Really? Come on!

Inflated Real Estate Values due to Olympic Flame?

I read an article in the Vancouver Sun today stating that those properties in Coal Harbour that had direct views of the Olympic flame also had strengthened real estate values. A place at harbour green - a fabulously wonderful building with amazing views to every corner of Burrard inlet, are enjoying asking a bit more on their asking price due to the fact that they have unobstructed views of the flame lit by Wayne Gretzky.

Here are some thoughts.

Those people at harbour green may be enjoying the fabulous views of the flame but how long will it take for that to be an everyday view just like views of Science world - left over from Expo '86? Sure the view of Science World is great but not something I would personally pay more for.

How long is it until this city goes back to normal. All of the athletes go home. Owning the podium becomes just another term and a thing of the past, and the biggest thing - everyone will have seen the flame, and it becomes nothing new. Will those living in Coal Harbour still be able to ask significant prices for something that is an every day occurance?

One more thing. Most of what I have seen of the Olympics so far has been very dissappointing. It has turned out to be an elitist, VIP event where you must have money and a VIP pass to enjoy the games. Not sure that is what the regular working class of Vancouver signed up for. I knew there was a reason I was not a sports fan.

Olympic Experience Day 5

My idea to post blog entries about my Olympic experience down at Concord Pacific has turned out to be a big pie in the sky idea. As it turns out there is just NO time.

In between my shifts at the Concord Presentation Centre which are about 8-10 hours a day, keeping up with my own real estate business, and guilting myself into taking part in some of the happenings, there has been only just enough time to eat and sleep and maybe use the bathroom.

Apart from that, this has been an unrepeatable real estate experience. I am essentially at an open house in which the world is attending. I am meeting so many interesting people who really just want to talk to a native of Vancouver and find out about our real estate prices. Inevitably there will be some degree of separation that we have in common.

For instance I am meeting people who know the university I went to in the Maritmes, and what's more they know somebody I do. I also met a woman from Saskatoon who knows my husband's family and goes to the same church. This country is pretty big but only in size.

When I am not meeting people and talking about real estate, I am also getting a shirt autogrpahed by Daniel Igali - Canada's gold medal winner for wrestling in Beijing, getting a accidental free pass to see Bare Naked Ladies at Molson Canadian Hockey House, hanging with the VIP's in the same venue,seeing Luc Robatille and Elizabeth Manley, and watching Alex Bilodeau visit the Maison Quebec.

It surely hasnt been all work!

Olympic Experience Day 1

For the duration of the Olympics I will be situated at Concord Pacific right smack dab in the middle of the action. Concord has leased out its parking lot to a number of different venues including right to play, the provinces of Quebec and Saskatchewan and of course Molson Hockey House. Incidently the parking lot is also adjacent to the entrance gates and security checkpoints for BC Place, and down the seawall from Sotchi House - Science World.

This is apparently where all of the action will be. I have been asked by Concord to be down here as much as possible for the next 17 days, to help showcase some of their upcoming developements.

If be here I must then I thought I might as well have fun with it and also do some blogging. I think this will be an opportunity to realize just exactly how big and how small our country really is.

As I write there is huge cheering and yelling coming from Athlete's village, and they are doing sound check at Molson Hockey House. So many people from so many different countries, and provinces are coming through the doors, it will be a great time to showcase the weird, wild and wonderful!
