How I Did With My Summer Bucket List

With just days left before we say 'so long' to summer, I thought I'd do a recap on how we did in regards to my summer bucket list. Warning - this post is picture overload.

~~...and of course, lots of time at both the beach and lake houses.~~

Above is my original list with all of the activities we completed crossed out, but also feel like it's worth adding a few additions:

1. Ella attended her first wedding

2. Beach Jam -- sooo much fun!

3. Made an enormous DIY slip & slide

4. BBQs with friends

5. Boating

Regardless of how many activities we did/did not complete, summer 2018 was very good to us and I'm sad to see it go. I am, however, super excited for what fall has in store.

It's been a busy summer and while I'm sad for it to come to an end, I'm excited for what fall has in store.

All Black for Summer

While I'm usually all about the LWD for summertime, I fell in love with this lacy black number the minute I laid eyes on it!

For one, I'm always a sucker for a summery dress with sleeves. They're a rare find, but perfect for a chilly office.

Also, this one reminds me of a LoveShackFancy dress I had been lusting over, but for a fraction of the price.

Side note, Zaful's sizing can be tricky but luckily they usually provide detailed measurements. I'm wearing a size Large when I typically wear Small or X-Small. I went by the measurements provided and am so happy that I did. It fits perfectly - also, use code "ZFAnniversary" for up to $12 off of orders $100+!

Summer Bucket List

So happy that summer (and Friday) is finally here! I know, I know -- technically still spring, but it felt as though the warm weather took forever to arrive this year. And while the forecast has been a little unpredictable, I'm excited partake in some warm weather activities.

A few things on my summer 2018 bucket list:

Spring Cleanout With Madewell

After a few ~~warm~~ fifty-degree days in a row, I'm ready for spring. I broke out the light layers over the weekend and while I'm not quite ready to pack away my winter wardrobe, I'm starting to incorporate some lighter, brighter pieces into my cold weather rotation.

Hello, and happy (belated) 2018!

We made it through the holidays - probably the best holiday season to date in my book. It was so much fun seeing the wonder of Christmas through the eyes of my daughter, and this was the first year that she was really aware of it all. It was truly magical.

Since then I've basically been in hibernation. The weather in NJ has been brutal, like hard-to-even-leave-the-house, brutal, and that's coming from a native New Jerseyan. So we've been snuggling up inside, baking, playing dress up, watching lots of Disney movies and just reflecting/making plans for the new year.

I'm really excited for several projects that my husband and I have on the horizon and to go along with those bigger items, came up with some smaller, achievable goals for this year:

less tech time. Obvious, and I'm sure on most people's lists
improve my morning routine. with my daughter in pre-school three days a week now, it's imperative that I be as prepared as possible to get everyone out of the house without a hitch
find an easy, quick workout routine & stick with it. still looking - suggestions welcome
read a book a month. again, suggestions welcome
be more kind.

I've been living in chunky knits lately and loving sweaters that offer some texture. This seemingly ordinary black turtleneck is elevated by the popcorn texture - it adds easy interest to this monochrome look.

Floral Kimono

Ever since doing a presentation at work featuring Attico's FW16 collection, the robe/kimono been a trend I've been wanting to try. Picking the perfect print was no easy feat, but I finally settled on this sea green beauty. I love the contrast of the green/blue with pops of rosy red flowers.

I realize that this trend may not be for everyone - I wore this to work last week and my boss asked me why I was wearing my bathrobe to the office - ha!

Pairing it with heels helped to elevate the look and make it (in my opinion) work perfect.

I finally got my act together this week and began to pull my favorite fall pieces out of storage.

Every season I'm careful to assess what I already have before adding anything new to my closet. Blame it on mommy brain (although admittedly, it was pretty bad before), but somehow after being packed away for a mere six months, I forget so much!

First thing on my agenda was a new belt. I had been lusting over a few expensive ones, but landed this pretty pearly Zara number. It's exactly what I had been looking for - I love a belt that I can wear on my natural waist or with jeans (as seen here).

These are the last summer outfit pictures that I snapped for the season and seeing that it's been in the high 70s/low 80s all week, I thought that it was a good time to post.

I've talked about my Zara sale strategy before, and this dress was another fabulous $15 score. One of my best girlfriends and I go to our local store when sale is just about over and drudge through the leftovers. We always manage to find some hidden gems at rock bottom prices. And although this dress is a bit short for work, it's perfect for our weekend beach getaways.

This jumpsuit might by my favorite piece I've worn all summer. My mama got it to me for Mother's Day, and at the time I questioned how much wear I would get out of it - sooo happy I decided to keep it.

It's as comfortable as wearing pajamas, but can be dressed up in so many different ways. It's also perfect for an array of summer events (comes in a bright red/orange color too that could definitely be dressed up for a summer wedding).

Sheer Floral Midi Dress

While this dress is definitely a little fancier than my typical office style, I feel that it's always good to have a romantic number like this one in my closet.

This see-through dress will be perfect to wear for some events I have coming up early this fall, and I'm sure I'll be wearing it again come spring. The smocking at the waist and cuffs makes it super comfortable - who doesn't love an expandable waistband?!

To Culotte or Not?

I've always been a huge fan of flare leg pants, and still remember fondly the last time culottes were all the rage (probably sometime in the early 2000s - yes, showing my age right now). So, you can probably imagine how happy I was when they recently made a comeback in full fashion forward force.

I'm not one to wear jeans often during the summer months - too hot and sticky in NJ - but culottes are the perfect pant alternative. If you are on the fence, try a pair and I guarantee you'll become a believer!
