Valentine's Day is just around the corner and I wanted to share with you some things you can add to your classroom activities. January Snow Themed Free Activities

Winter is upon us and I love adding some snow themed activities to my classroom. How about you? The first activity we use is wacky compound words. In this activity, students get a chance to practice making compound words. You can grab it here.

Sometimes during these winter months you just need to take a break and have a little fun. One way we do this is by reading a book about Tacky the Penguin and then creating an icy themed craftivity. Can't do this activity before the holidays...add it after the holidays and ask students how they spent their holiday. It would make a great bulletin board with the title "How we Spent Winter Break!" Fun and Free Winter Snowman Holiday Activities

I love the holidays. It's a fun time in the classroom where we can hopefully squeeze in some fun activities to do together. In this cute picture, you'll see two free activities that I use during the holidays. One of them is called "Snow Me the Money" it's a behavior incentive program where my students earn "snowbucks" for good behavior and then they can cash them in right before winter break to buy something special for someone they love or for themselves. The other activity is called "Snowy Synonyms and Antonyms." This is a fun theme centered activity using snowmen to practice identifying synonyms and antonyms. You can grab this freebie here.

Elf Calendar

Classroom Management Tool

Are you wanting to start the school year off on a positive note? This set of caught being terrific tickets are a great classroom management tool I've used over the years to promote positivity in my classroom. Before the school year begins, I print out a bunch of these tickets, and then have a few of them with me throughout the day. I pass them out in the hallway, library, recess, or anywhere I see a student following the rules and showing kindness to their classmates. A wonderful thing happens, other students notice and want to be display positive behavior too. Students who get a ticket simply write their names on the back and place it in a box I have set aside. At the end of the week, I go to the box and draw 5 or 6 names and they can go to my prize box or earn tickets for lunch with the teacher, free ice cream, or computer time at the end of the day. These were so cute on my back-to-school/parent night. I took a simple vase and attached some pencils to these cards (which are completely editable) and allowed students and their parents to grab a pencil to choose what supplies they would bring. I had a board that they attached these to so I could see that those supplies would be sent in. Print them on cardstock and laminate them and they can be used year after year. Timesaver. First week of school craftivity

The first weeks of kindergarten are all about learning where we sit, how we behave, and learning the rules of the classroom. Well sometimes it's a good idea to throw in a little fun activity to end your week of learning activities. This activity is always a hit with my kindergartners because they get to make something cool to use in the classroom or take home.
