Upon entering this class I thought that it was ridiculous because I'm in my 6th year of foreign language classes and I've never used a computer, microphone, smart board etc. and I thought that technology wasn't necessary for acquiring a second language. I still believe that it isn't necessary, but helpful. I think that this class was good for me to take because it changed my views of technology and changed how I want to teach.

•What are 3 technologies I would use in my future classroom and how would I use them?

The three technologies I would use in my future classroom are Inspiration, Podcasting, and the Digital camera. With Inspiration I would create a page to show different verbs and their conjugations into several other tenses. Inspiration made concept mapping very easy and I found it extremely simple to convey different ideas and how things related to the main idea or word. I would also use podcasting in my future classroom so my students will have the opportunity to practice their pronunciation at home. Podcasting was a very quick and rather simple way to put recordings online of anything that you might want your students to have. Using a digital camera in my future classroom is a very likely happening. I think using a digital camera could be a very fun, non-traditional way to extend vocabulary. I picture giving my students a list of items found either around the classroom or the school in Spanish and having them take pictures of what they found.

What do I need to know to integrate technology into the classroom?

Integrating technology into the classroom requires a lot of knowledge and a lot of attention. You have to know what your students are doing when using computers and where they are visiting on the web. Using the web can be a dangerous thing. There are so many ways that anyone can get into trouble using the web, and by being a teacher and intergrating technology into the classrooms, it's become your responsibility. Next, the proper use of copyrighted materials is something that every teacher using technology MUST be familiar with. Having pictures, articles, movie clips etc, illegally in the classroom can get yourself as well as the school you work in, into trouble. Knowing a wide variety of programs and how they are used is critical for using technology to its fullest potential. And finally, i think it's incredibly important to know your students.

Integrating Technology

Integrating technology into classrooms is, i say this with all reluctance, important. I plan on teaching Spanish to High School studnets after graduation and had not thought computers to be the backbone of the lesson plans. As far as language aquisition goes, human interaction proves to be by far the best way to both teach and aquire a second language. No matter how hard people try to improve computers, they cannot replace human interaction. I'm not personally a big fan of using somputers to teach. I think computers can serve as a good supplement or aid in some cases. using computers to teach is impersonal and is creating the monsters we see today. Teenagers today can't hardly function with out an iPod, a cell phone, a laptop, a gps system... and adults' worlds come crashing down if thier blackberry crashes or the server is down. I plan on using computers as little as possible WHILE teaching. I will use them for lesson preparation, keeping records of things, but I will have a hard copy as well, and so on. I understnad the importance of staying "with the times" and current in all of the advances made by the technological scientists, but I am a firm believer in sustaining and maintaining close, personal, human interaction.
