闖關東 (Braving the Journey to the Manchuria)

《闖關東》是大陸中央電視台2007年年末攝制的一部曆史題材電視連續劇。講述的是從清末到九一八事變爆發前，一戶山東人家爲生活所迫而離鄉背井“闖關東 ”的故事，以主人公朱開山的複雜、坎坷的一生爲線索，其中穿插了朱開山的三個性格迥異、命運不同的兒子在關東路上遇到的種種磨難和考驗。在劇本策劃階段就將其創作定位爲：小人物成爲大英雄的故事。“闖關東”這種民族行爲是中華民族特定曆史背景下被迫進行的民族大遷移，關東路上的闖蕩需要經曆一次次的波折磨難，包括土匪、官兵、土豪、鄉霸、流氓、流民、善人、妓女、瘾君子、礦工等等各色人物將陸續登場，給山東大漢制造各種各樣的困難，在苦難之下，朱家父子、兄弟、夫妻之間所産生的悲歡離合的故事。

《家園》由大陸著名歌手劉歡演唱，宋祖英配唱。作詞：王敏、張宏森作曲：劉歡歌詞：

Recently my friend recommended me this astonishing animation that always raises my passion of embracing "Life". Believe it or not...the first time I watched this animation, my eyes dripped with heart-stirring tears!

This animation portrays a number of biological processes, from translation, to diapedesis, to microtubule depolymerization, to vesicular transport along the cytoskeleton...

LEGO MINDSTORMS NXT + LabVIEW + Real Neurons = ?

I have been indulging myself in designing a testbed to achieve the dream of real cybernetics. Although my current research projects have nothing to do with this crazy idea, I still can't help putting a memo about it.

In December 2006, LabVIEW released the toolkit for LEGO's new MINDSTORMS NXT that advances the applications of NXT upon cybernetics. LabVIEW is an excellent software that with proper DAQ hardware can be used as an interface to record the live signals from the realistic neuronal systems, and to stimulate or regulate it as a feedback.

LEGO MINDSTORMS NXT is the most advanced toy robot kits that provides both the amateurs and even professional scientists easy access to the robotic technology. There have been enormous number of 3rd party software communities (ex. Microsoft Robotics Studio) that are developing programming interface for LEGO MINDSTORMS.

Combining with these technology, do you think the dream machine like RoboCop or Borg will be possibly achieved in the expectable future?

Hierarchical Temporal Memory (HTM)

ON Intelligence is an innovative book about a new theory of how intelligence actually works. You can join the discussion for this book here.

Based on the theory in this book, the author Jeff Hawkins invented a model "Hierarchical Temporal Memory (HTM)" to approach the implementation of intelligence. I found the essential property of HTM can inspire us to implement itself in some data-flow oriented programming language such as LabVIEW. Also I noticed the very useful relevance between genetic programming and HTM. I will take time to discuss it in more details.
