Advertisement and promotional activities are source of revenue for a blogger and if you are serious about monetizing your blog, you try lot many options to do that. One of the very interesting and effective way to notifying the visitor about latest buzz or promotional campaign is placing page peel ad on blog’s top corner. We do lot many things on Internet starting from email, social networking, social bookmarking, chatting etc. For that we need to open different browsers and need to remember lot many IDs and passwords or need to have multiple desktop applications for different purposes. Those days are over as today the browser is the most powerful application on a computer where you can do everything. In browsers as well, you don’t need to open too many tabs or windows for doing all these things. Threadsy is here to let you check emails (Gmail, Yahoo), use Twitter, Facebook and even chat on GTalk, AOL at one place.

Threadsy is a free web application to keep Facebook, Twitter, Gmail, Yahoo, AOL, GTalk etc under one umbrella. It is currently is beta stage where you need to request for the invite to start using this awesome application. Once you will have the invite link in your inbox, you may go ahead and create an ID and password for Threadsy. After that, provide one Gmail ID and password (at least) to start the application. You can manage multiple mail addresses in one Threadsy account. You may enter your Twitter details, Yahoo ID and password, AOL or GTalk as well for connecting them. This application uses Facebook Connect to get the updates from Facebook or share updates over there.

Dashboard of Threadsy:

Left panel is the place where you can see your emails, Twitter Mentions, Facebook Inbox, Yahoo etc. You can also reply to an email or create a new mails on this dashboard itself.

Right panel is for Twitter and Facebook Updates and for Live Chat. There are two tabs named as Unbound and Chat. On chat window, you may use GTalk for chatting purposes. Otherwise another tab will show you latest tweets, facebook updates etc on real time. You may update your Twitter and Facebook status from the same panel. There is a “RT” buttons besides every tweet, so you can easily share those tweets as RT on your account.

Currently this application supports Gmail and Google Apps, Hotmail (US only), Yahoo (US only), AOL, Twitter, Facebook. You may enter and manage multiple twitter accounts as well.

Wordpress has released Wordpress 2.8.6 which is a security release. Last month they released Wordpress 2.8.5 which was also a security release.

As per the release note from Wordpress team,

 

2.8.6 fixes two security problems that can be exploited by registered, logged in users who have posting privileges.

The first problem is an XSS vulnerability in Press This discovered by Benjamin Flesch.  The second problem, discovered by Dawid Golunski, is an issue with sanitizing uploaded file names that can be exploited in certain Apache configurations.

If your Wordpress users data is having some untrusted authors on your blog then you must upgrade your Wordpress installation to the latest version. Wordpress 2.9 is expected to release by end of this month or in early December 2009.

Google India had arranged a competition between the students of class 1 to 10 where they had  to submit a design (doodle) for google home page. After 90 days of submission and filtering process, now Google India has announced the winner for this competition. Windows Vista or 7 is having Sidebar feature where you can have some important apps like calendar, clock, slideshow, RSS reader for easily access them. Now Twitter users are increasing day by day and there are lot many ways to tweet frequently. There are lot many desktop applications to tweet, for example TweetDeck. But if you are using Windows 7 / Vista, you mat start tweeting from the desktop without even opening any application. Start tweeting from your windows sidebar using Twitter Sidebar Gadget.

TweetZ is a windows sidebar gadget which will show your recent tweets and tweets from the people whom you are following right now. It also provides you a box to tweet from sidebar only. If you are not familiar with Windows Sidebar, you may go thru the article I posted sometimes back,

Now install the gadget file on your PC and then you would be able to select this TweetZ gadget from the gadget list and put that into your sidebar panel. The gadget panel will look something like the image below:

Twadget is another application to start tweeting from the Windows Sidebar. You can also use bit.ly or su.pr bookmark buttons to tweet from your browser, but if you want to just update the status with some quotes, real time activity then you may use TweetZ sidebar gadget to do that without even opening your browser or desktop application.

Many of us who are enrolled for affiliate programs on different platforms but not staying in United States needs to fill up a form named W-8BEN (Certificate of Foreign Status of Beneficial Owner for United States Tax Withholding) to certify their non-American status. Hosting companies or affiliate platforms sends the copy of W-8BEN thru email and you need to reply that email with filled up form. Now you may get a print of that form and then fill up the required fields and then scan that document and send that to the concerned email address. Since you need to sign the document, that’s why getting printed copy is a good idea. You may use your digital signature (if available).

Wordpress creates three different images of different sizes for a single image upload. If you are attaching an image on your blog post, your hosting account upload folder will have 3 different image of sizes (150 x 60, 300 x 38, original) which will increase the number of files on your hosting account. If your blog is hosted on shared server, they always keep a restriction on number of files (also in case of unlimited hosting) so you may face suspension warning because of such extra files. If you are using Windows Live Writer, you may reduce this number from 3 to 2 as you can use FTP feature of Windows Live Writer to upload post images.

How To Use FTP Option of Windows Live Writer

Open Windows Live Writer and go to the “Blogs” tab on menu bar. Now click on “Edit Blog Settings” for selected blog.

Go to the “Pictures” tab in left panel and select the upload preference as FTP. Now you need to configure the FTP option by providing the FTP ID and Password (same ID and password you uses for third party FTP client like FireFTP)  and image folder location. You also need to provide the URL of the image folder.

Once you will enter these values and press OK, your blog posts images will automatically move to the assigned folder at the time of “Publishing” the post thru Windows Live Writer. By doing so, you will create 2 images for a single image out of which one image would a thumbnail and other as original size image.
