Oddly enough, I found another GPS system for the iPhone that costs just what my second download from Garmin would have cost. And it's on my iPhone, so I will never leave it in the car. And it'll still work on my next iPhone. And with any luck (!) it'll work on my iPad when it gets here in a few weeks.

I still wonder why the minimum wage employees at Garmin think it's a deal to let me re-download my software for "only" half the original purchase price.

Oh, man! That sucks! Getting one's car broken into… such a violation.

Good to know about the Garmin company. $99 doesn't seem like a lot until it's stolen, then your time spent with the company, and then their half-hearted attempt to keep a customer satisfied. I wonder how much trouble a plain ol' paper map would've caused.

This movie was a piece of crap i just saw it and i am already saying just how stupid it was. I have never seen a crappier movie. there wasn't anything from the book in the movie. the creators took the book and turned it into this disgusting piece of crap. I feel sorry for anyone who wants to see it. By the way i say crap but i am actually thinking of a pretty bad swear word that would describe just how awful this move actually was.

For me the poem is about superficiality vs the genuine. I think everybody, including Yeats, at some point ascribes to some sort of belief, or even attraction to another, in order to support themsleves (like a ladder). Eventually, however, these supports are usually removed forcing us to start from the genuine once more, from our inner selves.

I guess there isn't a way of 'knowing' what he meant without reading some sort of biography… but this is what the poem meant to me.

This cracks me up. It reminds me of when I somehow dropped system files from my Mac in the trash and had to go to the Apple Store to buy some sort of Emergency Hard Drive Recovery software. I don't even remember specifically what I bought. I just remember that it was during the holidays and Apple was sticking "Lucky You" stickers on items that were paid for.

Emergency Hard Drive Recovery and Lucky You are not synonymous… unless they meant it in a hipster irony sort of way.

Those iMacs are awesome, by the way. I have a Mini and I love it.

Sweet Tweedy Lord!! Let's set the wayback machine and take a quick look:
The end of '89, Kev had not yet proposed, but we'd been dating for over two years. Well, dating…we call them, with tongue firmly in cheek, 'the ashamed years'. My folks knew we were shaking up, and found it funny, and Kev's parents somehow believed that Kev just stayed over for alot of 'late movies'.
The end of '99 – wow- I was pregnant with Patrick, we were sweating Kev's new job, as the insurance wouldn't kick in until Jan. 1. Luckily for us things didn't go drastic or south on my pregnancy until the Feb. after. At the time, we were afraid that they would decide my pregnancy was pre-existing. It was Sara's second Christmas- the first one she really had an idea what was going on. My parents were both healthy and happy, still at the "Give me my Grandbaby- oh, did you come too?" stage. This year was the first Christmas since 2001 where I really relaxed and got into the groove. No Santa fail, as far as the kids were concerned- big bonus! Kev is employed, found Diane again, Paul's happily married to a great guy, Neecie and Kim and Janis are all found again. Still talking about my trip to Portland, life looks better right now than it has in a long while. **throws salt and makes sign against the curse of bad luck, looking around nervously*****

At the end of '89 I was a teacher for Aldine ISD. At the end of '99 I was a teacher for Aldine ISD. At the end of '09 I am a teacher for Aldine ISD. Huh! (Of course this doesn't tell all of the fun and exciting things I've done between the ends of decades…)

Saturday when you sent John and I to go get coffee he insisted on not stopping and waiting for the little white dude to show up on the cross walk sign thing. I'm not sure why but I always do. There could be not a car for miles and I'll still wait. I notice I'm not the only one though. However there are a Lot of busy (and also impatient) people who don't want to wait an extra forty-five seconds and wait.

Really? I've never had a problem with them not accepting a coupon or anything I buy there; expired coupons, up to as many coupons as items, no problem. Just dropped over $500 there and ran out of coupons. I felt naked.

HFCS is in everything these days. Corn is one of those crops that are heavily subsidized, and they have a pretty strong lobby. After all, the latest ethanol-as-fuel push yielded lots of money for Con-Agra, right?

Coke isn't the only thing that had a recipe change. I used to love Cream of Tomato soup – one of those comfort foods I grew up with. The last time I had some, I noticed it tasted very different. Sure enough, the first item listed in the ingredients was high-fructose corn syrup. I couldn't believe it! I know they changed their recipe because I had an older can stuck way back in the pantry. The first ingredient on that can was tomato. It's been years since I've had tomato soup from a can.

I've pretty much given up all soft drinks – even the diet ones. Those things are very expensive when you eat out these days. $3 for a coke and no refill? Plus, the sweetener (artificial) in diet drinks are actually an appetite stimulate.

I still cook with butter. I gotta have at least one vice.

Since moving to the greater Los Angeles Area – I've come to appreciate the virtues of the bus system in Portland. There is no fareless anything. They even took away transfers on the same bus line a year or so ago, upped the day pass rate considerably, because their lie was that Los Angeles had the cheapest system in the United States.

Well, anyway, just a perspective. Haven't spoken in quite some time. good to see such an incredible blog!

Ugh… Most annoying. Not sure which is worse, the sleazy marketing practice or the people buying into it.

I've noticed, too, that an item is free but you pay the "S&H" – shipping and handling. That gets pretty expensive, too.

I love the inside back cover of Consumer Reports for exposing such things. Plus, it makes for good potty reading.

Very priddy!!!!! We actually didn't go to the fireworks for the first time, this year. It was over 100 when we left to go that night, and this was after the sun set. So we begged off and watched a movie with the kids.
