ZAGAT To Go gets updated for iPhone

Handmark has updated their ZAGAT To Go 09 application for iPhone. This new version improves the mapping in the application to help you find hotels, restaurants and nightlife near you. There is also a teaser for version 3.0 that will be coming soon.

Microsoft Bing now on iPhone

Microsoft has released Bing, their decision/search engine for iPhone. Bing for iPhone brings you all the search and information finding capabilities you would expect as well as maps, movie information and other information. Bing takes advantage of the Locator service of the iPhone so you will get results close to you - handy for movie times!

The FitNow team has updated their popular weight and diet management application Lose It!

The new version allows you to send daily and weekly summary updates to yourself or someone else and can now link to Twitter and Facebook. There are also new restaurants added in the menu and other fixes and enhancements.

EA Releases Battleship for iPhone

Electronic Arts has been churning out some great games for the iPhone lately and Battleship is now a part of the mix. The classic naval strategy game is now available in the iTunes app store for $2.99 (I'm guessing it will go up after Christmas).

The game has multiple types of game play with fantastic graphics and animations of ship hits and sinking.

Taxi Magic gets updated for iPhone

Phase 10 card game updated for iPhone

The new version has a multitude of bug fixes and enhancements that make this great game even better.

If you have never played Phase 10, it is one of the more addictive card games out there.

AT&T Navigator for iPhone updated

AT&T has updated their Navigator app for iPhone.

The new 1.4i version gives you greater iPod controls inside the app (you can view the artists or song lists and control playback) as well as offering Landscape mode whether you are in navigation mode or not (THANK YOU).

The app is free but does require a $9.99 month service fee billed directly to your AT&T Wireless bill.

The Weather Channel App updated for iPhone

The Weather Channel app for iPhone has been updated this week.

The update is small, addressing some bug issues but adding two nice features. First you get Dew Point measurements in the Current Conditions page and you can now share weather without leaving the app itself.

Today Amazon released the IMDb app for iPhone.

The new application, which is free, provides you a mobile version of the popular website that is all things movie and television. In the app you can search for movies, actors, view trailers and photos as well as get box office information.

Twitter updates mobile site

This is a bit of old news perhaps but if you haven't checked out the new mobile site for Twitter you should do so.

The new mobile.twitter.com has been completely rebuilt, offering a much easier and friendly user experience on mobile browsers. Eventually this will replace m.twitter.com (so if you go there you will still see the old mobile site) but for now the mobile. site gives you much more finger-friendly menus and navigation.

Twitter is free of course - just sign up at http://www.twitter.com. If you sign up or already have a twitter account, be sure to follow @clintonfitch for updates from here and @geardiarysite for updates from Gear Diary.

Customer Service is NOT dead! Woo-Hoo!

The much rumored death of customer service is not true... well, at least not partically true.  Seems the good folks at ZAGG still believe in it and they showed it this week.

Over the Thanksgiving holiday I ordered a ZAGGSkin for my iPhone.  The one I ordered was a custom one with a photo and I was really excited to see it.  I paid and had it shipped but when I got it, the skin was a solid black image.  Not exactly what I ordered given mine was a pretty spiffy landscape picture of a local piece of artwork.

I contacted ZAGG customer service and explained the situation and wanted to know if I could get a refund or if I could re-place the order.  ZAGG was amazingly responsive, not only admitting the error was on their side of the process, but promptly issued me a eGift card in the amount of my purchase so I could buy it again.  It was a great experience and one that will keep me a ZAGG customer for life.

WMExperts reviews Namco Galaga for Windows Phone

Another one of my teenage arcade games that I loved was Galaga. My sister and me would play it for hours when we found them while growing (she was SUBSTANTIALLY better than me). Now you can get it for your Windows Phone and WMExperts has posted a good review of it today.

The game is set up exactly like the arcade version you remember and based on the review, it seems that it plays quite well after you learn the controls.

Dragon Dictation from Nuance Communications now in the App Store

Nuance Communications, a leading speech-to-text developer has released Dragon Dictation for the iPhone. Dragon Dictation uses the impressively effective Nuance speech engine to allow you to speak to your iPhone to do things such as send a text message, update your Facebook status and so forth. Early results have been promising from Beta testers.

Google Goggles coming to iPhone?

Yesterday Google introduced Goggles, an Android app that allows you to take a picture of an object or location and be instantly taken to a Google search on that item or location. It seems to be somewhat limited right now from the reports I've been reading but knowing Google, it won't be that way for long.

Google also hinted that it will be available for "most popular" phones and operating systems - meaning I assume iPhone, Blackberry and Windows Phone. There is no word yet on release dates for the other platforms but it would be great to see this new feature on other platforms.

Dragon's Lair released for iPhone!

If you were a teen in the late 80s - early 90s then you undoubtedly remember the game Dragon's Lair. This was a ground breaking game at the time, offering movie quality animations as you navigated Dirk the Daring through his adventure. Now you can get all that gaming greatness on your iPhone thanks to Electronic Arts.

The $4.99 game gives you all of the visual goodies of the original arcade game as you go on your quest to the lair of Singe, a fire-breathing dragon. Just like the original game, your inputs determine the story flow and the ultimate path that Dirk the Daring takes in his quest.

As I post this Dragon's Lair is in queue to download from the iTunes App Store on my PC so I'm sure I'll be burning a few hours playing it instead of sleeping!

Twikini updated for Windows Phone

The popular Twitter application Twikini has been updated for Windows Phone users. The new 2.1 version allows you to switch between the new retweeting style of Twitter or go back to the classic way of doing it. It also allows you to disable the automatic wrapping behavior on some devices. Finally, there are bug fixes around GPS signal for geotagging.

NASA App gets updated in the iTunes App Store

One of the real gems of the iTunes App store is the NASA app from United States space agency. They have updated the app, which is free, and now include more mission information as well as times when you can see the International Space Station and Shuttle overhead in your area. This adds a great dimension to this great app. There are also enhancements to the video and update panels and an option to view images in high resolution.

Hilton Hotels App in the iTunes App Store

If you are a Hilton Hotel frequent then you should probably look for the Hilton Hotel app in the iTunes App Store.

The new-ish app allows you to view your reservations, do online check in and manage your Hilton HHonors account directly from your iPhone.  In using the app for a few trips now it is very well put together and responsive.  It's a great way to keep your Hilton stuff in order while on the road (translation:  no need to power up my laptop).

If you frequent other Hilton brand hotels, there are other apps in the App Store as well.  You can find apps for Embassy Suits, Doubletree, Hilton Garden Inn and Hampton Inn in the App Store as well.

Rock Band for iPhone Updated

Electronic Arts has updated Rock Band for iPhone with several new features and improvements.

The new 1.1.71 version supports French, Italian, German and Spanish and now allows you to broadcast your score on Facebook. Other improvements come in frame rates to improve overall experience of playing Rock Band as well as performance upgrades in Bluetooth Multiplayer, Animations, Drums and Tour Mode.

Last month I wrote a review of Rock Band here on ClintonFitch.com and I have found the game to be great fun. If you have a console version of the game then you will appreciate the fact that Rock Band for iPhone has a very low learning curve - it plays essentially the same.

Documents To Go for iPhone Updated

DataViz has updated Documents to Go for iPhone with several key improvements

The new 2.1 version has an enhanced PDF viewer as well as the ability to open password-protected PDFs. You can now navigate to a page in a document and the application can remember the last page that you opened. Several navigation and viewing improvements have happened in this version along with speed improvements and bug fixes.

I reviewed Documents to Go for iPhone in November and you can read that review at this link. If you need to edit documents or handle emails with attachments, this is an application that you should consider.
