“Our team has a really strong sponsor with a great programme and I’m proud to have been chosen to lead the team around the world,” says Piers Dudin, 31, who has been selected as skipper of Hull & Humber in the Clipper 09-10 Round the World Yacht Race.
A maths teacher before he became a pro sailor, Piers has been sailing since he was six. He was introduced to the sport by his parents. “We were living in Germany at the time as my father had been posted out there with the Army,” he explains. “He would take all of us out on the Royal Engineers Yacht Club boats and after that we’d often take family sailing holidays together. My brothers also sail.”
