That's according to the This Old House website. The article talks about the 20 block area where there are 150 homes on the National Register. Homes in the area date back to the 1900's. Real Estate Agent, Paul Everson, says the Cathedral District deserves the recognition.. He says owners work hard to maintain their homes same look and feel as when they were origionally constructed. (Paul Everson / Alliance Real Estate) The reason the homes in the cathedral district are attractive and people want to live down here is because it's kind of the norman rockwell era. Porch in the front, garage in the back, about being in front yard, walking down street getting to know your neighbors. Quality built homes with a lot of character. Everson says because the homes are unique people like to stay in the homes longer than average. It's not often homes in the Cathedral District are for sale. </td></tr></table><img src="http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/clipsyndicate_channel/1602/~4/326370024" height="1" width="1"/>

<media:text>. ## one metro councilman says the city of nashville... is acting un-american. it's a big squabble over a small building. the city wants to seize a piece of property to make room for a new building. trouble is... the property owner won't sell. sell. fox 17's john dunn joins us live from music row with more. more. this is the building that some say is standing in the way of progress. a houston developer wants to tear this down and build a high rise office building, hotel, and condos on this property. but joy ford.. who owns this music business says there's no way she's selling. selling. joy ford says : "you don't take your neighbor's property, and take it away for him. joy ford calls it the fight of her life. for 30 years she's operated country music international... and's she's not willing to give it up.joy ford, property owner : "there is not a price in this world that could take my building from my right now." but joy's building is considered prime real estate... it's why she's been offerred at least 900-thousand dollars to make room for a new project. joy is the lone hold-out. joy ford says"we're in america, united states of america." now, the city is involved. the metro development and housing agency is taking joy to court. they plan to seize her property under eminent domain.michael craddock, metro council says : "it's upsetting that government once again is trying to mistreat somebody, it's sinful what they're doing to this lady." metro councilman michael craddock is asking m-d-h-a to reconsider... he calls this offensive.craddock says: "if this were a four lane highway coming through here, that would be one thing, or a metro park, or something like that...that would be something else. but we're going to take this property and give it to a private developer...that is unconscionable." m-d-h-a was unavailable for comment, but referred us to former councilman leo waters... who in 1999 sponsored the joy ford is also getting some national attention. in fact she's been in contact with the "institute for justice"... a washington based group that has a history of representing property owners in disputes like this. scott... scott... john... is there any price that waters would accept for her property? property? i asked her if the city offerred her 10 million dollars would she take it.. she said no. she went on to ask me... is god for sale? she's pretty serious. scott... scott... john dunn, live downtown tonight, thanks.##</media:text>

IT'S A TAX ON HOMES THAT SELL FOR MORE THAN 650-GRAND -- THE MONEY WOULD GO TOWARD AFFORDABLE HOUSING IN A CITY KNOWN FOR ITS EXPENSIVE REAL ESTATE .. SANTA FE BUREAU CHIEF RAY SEVA TAKES A LOOK AT THE CONTROVERSIAL TAX. THE CITY OF SANTA FE WANTS TO IMPOSE A 1-PERCENT TAX ON THE AMOUNT THAT EXCEEDS 650- THOUSAND DOLLARS WHEN A HOME IS SOLD. SO ON A 750- THOUSAND DOLLAR SALE, 100-THOUSAND DOLLARS WOULD BE TAXED ...MEANING THE SELLER AND BUYER WOULD PAY A THOUSAND DOLLARS. THIS REVENUE WOULD CREATE A PROGRAM TO HELP LOWER-INCOME HOMEBUYERS WITH DOWNPAYMENTS--OR RENTERS PAY RENT. SUPPORTERS SAY THIS WOULD HELP KEEP CITY WORKERS HERE IN SANTA FE. 'I don't think it's unfair at all. I think on a 750- thousand dollar home that the people buying those homes would in most cases would be glad to pay this fee.' BUT REALTORS SAY IT'LL DRIVE UP ALREADY-HIGH HOME PRICES...AND DISCOURAGE A LARGE PART OF THE COMMUNITY FROM BUYING. 'It's an unfair tax because it clearly targets the middle-class. It's discriminatory.' IT'S AN ISSUE WHICH HAS ALSO DIVIDED MANY HERE IN THE PREDOMINANTLY- LIBERAL 'CITY DIFFERENT.''It is excessive. It's not fair. It's having one section of the community have to carry the burden.''I think it's a good idea-affordable housing. We need it. You know, not all of us can afford homes. So I think it's a good idea 'I generally am for taxing high-end income people But in this market right now I think it's a real bad choice of how to raise money.''Mayor Coss says he has the votes from city councilmembers for approval of the measure to be put on a ballot. It'll then go before voters in a special election in Augusst. At Santa Fe City Hall, Ray Seva Eyewitness News Four.' SUPPORTERS OF THE TAX SAY BETWEEN 500- THOUSAND TO A- MILLION-AND-A-HALF DOLLARS WOULD BE GENERATED ANNUALLY. OPPONENTS SAY GIVEN TODAY'S WEAK REAL-ESTATE MARKET, THOSE FIGURES ARE TOO </td></tr></table><img src="http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/clipsyndicate_channel/1602/~4/320303807" height="1" width="1"/>

<media:text>19:57 i'm kassandra pride coming up, what one local baker is doing to lower the sales tax on his food. terrie foster reporting don imus is tiptoeing through the racial minefield yet again. but... this time he says he's the victim... of a mis- understanding. 1:29 the nc department of revenue is targeting bakeries... bakeries... a mountain baker says he's paid thousands of dollars in back taxes... ...and he blames it on a poorly written law. good afternoon... i'm frank fraboni. fraboni. and i'm tammy watford. state lawmakers are trying to help some small businesses with their tax bills... news 13's kassandra pride is live in the news center. kassandra... tell us about this new measure. measure. senate bill 19-52 would exempt certain businesses from paying back taxes... after not charging a full sales tax on their products. and it's good news for one local bakery. for 11 years...carolina bakery's made its pastries, bread and cakes from scratch.. and for years the owner, aaron wiener, charged its customers a 2 percent sales tax for its baked goods. but in the end...it's wiener who had to pay. 1:29 "the nc department of revenue is targeting bakeries because they found a way to get a lot of money from us. carolina mountain bakery owed 60-thousand dollars in back taxes... because, according to state officials, it should have been charging the seven- percent sales tax. 3:03 i had to mortgage my house to pay it. to top it off...wiener says the state revenue department told him time and time again ...to charge 2 percent... 5:16 what it boils down to it doesn't matter what you're told because it has to be in writing before it holds any weight. the law says tax on prepared food should be seven-seven-five-percent. (kassandra standup) 18:22 the difference is...most bakeries make their items from scratch. at grocery stores such as ingles the pastries and breads come preprepared. some say the difference is all in the taste. 23:29 it's probably better at the bakery but i don't know that for sure. and that taxes should be the same across the board... 21:38 don't you think they should be encouraging individual small businesses to make things? wiener agrees...that's why he's attaching a letter to every purchase. asking customers to encourage lawmakers to make a change. 3:46 we've had a lot of good response i've had a lot of people call me for details and want to know what they can do to help. the senate passed the bill last week... it goes before the house... and if it passes... it will go to governor easley for his signature. live in the news center kassandra pride news 13. </media:text>
