((webclick)) we want to hear what you thought of the speech. take part in our twitter poll. just head to the news 8 twitter page to weigh in. 3</media:text>

<media:text>now one week away -- and the pressure is mounting at the riverside county registrar of voter's office. election day amounts to their super bowl. and -- in past elections -- there have been a number of fumbles -- including slow ballot counting. tonight -- we take a look at whether it'll be different in this election -- in a newschannel 3 i-team investigation -- "pol problems." ""sound of sorting machine hundreds of thousands of mail in ballots are already being sorted... ""sound of openi machine"" opened.. ""sou of ballot stackers"" a prepared for counting. there are thousands of ballots -- lined-up ready to go -- in the counting room. riverside county registrar of voters -- rebecca spencer -- says her office is ready for the big day.... ""yes we are, rea and very confident."" spencer ga us a tour of the operation in riverside -- with 400 temporary workers on the job. there will be 35- hundred workers at nearly 600 polling places on november 8th... ""it's a ye long process. it takes a lot of work ahead of time to make sure that things go smoothly as possible on november 8th."" there ha been problems in the past. chief among them -- slow counting -- among the slowest in the state. spencer isn't over-promising -- saying it'll be another long night.... ""we want to s realistic expectations and make sure everyone is aware of that in advance and we believe it'll take 'til 8 am the next morning to count all of the election day ballots."" the silv lining -- these mail-in ballots -- close to 70 percent of riverside county ballots -- many of them sitting in these boxes --already returned -- will be counted ahead of time -- giving us a very good idea of who's winning -- very early.... ""statistically speaking, t results from that first update usually hold their ground unless it's an extremely close contest." the registra has faced other complaints. this is her response to a critical county grand jury report that found issues with last november's election -- including incorrect polling place adresses. that would mean about 750-thousand ballots to count in riverside county. spencer admits -- it may not be possible to have a "perfect election. so far -- one candidate in the 42nd district state assembly race -- democrat greg rodriguez has issued a statement saying some of his supporters have had trouble getting their mail-in ballots. spencer says she hasn't had any complaints about that -- and rodriguez's campaign hasn't contacted her about the issue. anyone who does encounter a problem -- with getting a mail-in ballot -- or any issue at all -- should report it right away to the registrar of voters office. that number is 951-486-7200. again -- 951-486- 7200. 7200. cast your ballot -- then watch it count on news channel 3.</media:text>

      <media:credit>KRDO ABC 13 Colorado Spri</media:credit>
<media:text>event. tonight.. the trump effect in colorado. good evening and thanks for joining us. i'm james jarman. and i'm heather skold. first tonight, the debate versus the rally. republican presidential frontrunner donald trump tried to steal the spotlight from the final g-o-p debate before monday's iowa caucus. question is... how will it impact the run for the white house? new tonight, krdo newschannel 13's eric fink is live with local reaction. donald trump made a calculated decision to skip tonight's debate. and both a republican and a democrat in el paso county say...it will hurt his candidacy. the man who's dominated the polls .. for the last 7 months .... not centerstage at tonight's debate. nats -- trump rally tc: 19:22:25 - :28 instead held a rally for veterans miles from the debate. tc: 09 - :15 look at all the cameras, this is like the academy awards, like the academy awards, this is like the academy awards. back home, active democrat judi ingleido --, and undecided republican and iraq veteran josh hosler go back and forth between the debate and tuning into trump. tc: 4:31 - 4:41 i think trump taps into the veterans frustrations of the va, of politics over action. tc: 2:37 - 2:47 he's just such an insincere person, i mean to all of a sudden, have a big event for the vets. if he was really concerned about the vets. why wasn't he doing something sooner? the leader on stage, ted cruz invoked his closest rival. tc: 05:24 - :39 i'm a maniac, and everyone on this stage is stupid fat and ugly, and ben you're a terrible surgeon. now, that we've gotten the donald trump portion out of the way. and marco rubio took his own shot...by defining how he views this fight. 07:40 - 07:51 it's not about donald trump, he's an entertaining guy, he's the greatest show on earth. this campaign is about a president who has systematically destroy many of the things that made america special. stand-up 1:37 - 1:47 both voters say the debate had less fireworks, but quite a bit more substance without the frontrunne r. tc: :31 - :34 they're a little more relaxed and focused. tc: 107 - 1:11 what can you bring to the table instead of dirty politics but trump stood firm on his decision to fundraise for vets and admitted to iowa caucus goers it may be risky. tc: 01 - 09 it is for me personally, a good thing, a bad thing? will i get more votes or less votes? who the hell knows. but, it's for our vets. trump says he raised five million dollars for veterans tonight. in the newsplex eric fink, k-r-d-o newschannel 13. new numbers tonight show the two bernie sanders and hillary clinton are in a statistical tie in iowa. hclinton</media:text>

<media:text>three days in alaska focusing mostly on climate change. . president obama is not the first president to visit the 49th state. in tonight's assignment alaska, channel two's eric sowl reviews which commanders in chief have touched down. the first sitting us president to visit alaska was warren harding in the summer of 1923. harding was on a national speaking tour called the 'voyage of understanding". h visited several cities in southeast alaska - valdez, seward and anchorage and north to nenana where he drove in the golden spike marking the completion of the alaska railroad. the next president arrived by boat. franklin roosevelt took only one trip while president and it involved alaska. in 1944 f- d-r made a three week journey by ship to hawaii that also included stops in juneau, kodiak and adak where he dined on boiled ham and stewed tomatoes with the enlisted service members. an avid fisherman, roosevelt dropped a line in the water at all of his alaska stops. he is the only visiting president who didn't make a stop in anchorage. a re-fueling stop on the way to asia in 1960 brought dwight eisenhower to anchorage. ike greeted alaskans with a parade down fourth avenue. president eisenhower had visited alaska before he became president, as an army general inspecting military facilities. on the way home from an asia trip in 1966, president lyndon johnson was greeted by a large crowd in anchorage. even though he arrived in the middle of the night, lbj took time to deliver a fireside speech. september 1971 brought the meeting of two world leaders to alaska. emperor hirohito of japan was making a refueling stop in anchorage and president richard nixon came to meet him. it was the first time in history that a japanese emperor would set foot on foreign soil. it was a historic meeting that strengthened the relationship between japan and the united states. nixon had also visited alaska in 1960 when he was running for president against john f kennedy. he lost that race but he did earn the distinction of being the very first presidential candidate to visit all 50 states. gerald ford has visited alaska twice. in november of '74 president ford was on his way to japan and an important meeting on a nuclear weapons agreement with the ussr. when the president stopped in anchorage, a friend of his, an alaskan furrier, gifted him with a wolf-skin fur coat to keep him warm on his visit to the soviet union. when ford noticed leonid brezhnev admiring that coat he gifted it to the soviet general secretary. president ford's 1975 trip to china put him in anchorage at the same time as alaska senator's ted stevens 52nd birthday party. the president joined in on the festivities at the anchorage westward hotel. and a stop in fairbanks allowed him to check out the new trans alaska pipeline. ronald reagan also make two stops in alaska. the first in anchorage in 1983. and on may second 1984 president reagan met with pope john paul the second at the fairbanks international airport. on veteran's day 1994 bill clinton strolled down anchorage's fourth avenue shaking hands and signing autographs. grabbing a bite to eat with then governor tony knowles. george w bush, who actually lived in fairbanks for a few months in the 1970s, is also a two time visitor. w's first visit was in 2004 but it was his 2005 visit that took on a serious tone. "the iraqi people no live in freedom and the people of the united states are safer." in 2009 barack obama stopped over in anchorage for a grand total of one hour and forty minutes. he never left the base in anchorage. on this visit he will make history when he travels to kotzebue - marking the first sitting united states president to visit the alaskan arctic. for assignment alaska, i'm eric sowl, channel 2 news. there were also a couple of visits by men who would become president future president herbert hoover was the secretary of commerce for warren harding and was a member of the president's group when it visited alaska. john f kennedy visited alaska while he when he was running for president. his appearances included the alaska state fair and a stop at the channel 2 studios. still to come.... we try to get the</media:text>
