<media:text>day. la crosse wasn't the only place using the nice weather to do some outdoor cleanup. winona is looking a little nicer thanks to the local football team. the winona state football players picked up trash in central winona for the first ever "spring- work-a-thon". both players and coaches broke into teams and began north of the river and proceeded down to the south of the lake. members of the team say this is about giving back to the community that gives so much to them. "i wouldn't be here without them. with scholarship money, the money they give to our program, the stuff that we get, that stuff is just important for me to have. and so, if i can give back my time, i may not have the money to give back to them so i can give back my time and just do stuff like this. this is awesome." team members also raised funds for needed football equimpent and facilities while out</media:text>

<media:text>last time we caught up with Ava and her Handler Haley it was summer time but now there's plenty of snow up here for her to get some on-the-job training done elsewhere able to build caves and work on some good training drills as learning all about how to find victims of an avalanche will hide and caves will bury them with snow and then we'll send her back to search for them I had a big breakthrough a few weeks ago when she learned how to flirt Haley to someone who is buried in Berkeley until we went to dog school and she saw the other dogs barking and kind of figured it out so that's a huge accomplishment that we've been working on plant in Arizona might seem rare it does happen to have a significant risk you know it depends every year on our snowpack this year we haven't had you know enough snow to have a significant risk we have Ava just just in case we need her but we hope we never need to season that we're going to be able to take her up either to Utah or Colorado and validate her and pretty much tester skills like to see us get more dogs up here and be able to have a train rescue dog on every day when there's Avalanche Hazard that way we always have that to protect our public here</media:text>

"goal here is to just educate the community about hopefully planting and planting trees or growing gardens, just learning more about our earth and our environment." organizers say today's event was a test... and it could become a regular event if it's</media:text>

<media:text>a new ice cream place has a unique way of serving up a traditional dish. the ice cream is hand made with natural ingredients, rolled, and then toppings are added. in tonight's going green report, i have more on moster ice cream. "we really wanted this whole store to be like an instagram worthy moment." a concept owner joey lam says has kept sweet monster ice cream very busy since opening a week ago. "so everything in here is handmade, we make everything from scratch." so what can you expect? , first they put the ice cream batch directly on the freezer plate... and then after some pounding... flatten the ice cream, and roll it into a bowl. "the process is actually really unique. just because it freezes instantaniously. the plate freezes at approximately negative 15 to negative 20 degrees. by doing so, it forms really tiny ice crystals. the end result is a more smoother and creamier base." next up? toppings... "a lot of the different creations are created by using mixins. so we use like fresh fruit, for strawberry cheesecake for example we use fresh strawberries, actual cheesecake, and actual graham crackers. so all of those tastes you actually taste at the end, are from real food." while the signs are clear, that you are ruining your diet... the ingredients are all natural."but by being that it's fresh every single day, from my stand point, it is better for you... being that it's fresh, every single day." 3 sweet monster ice cream is currently hiring. if you are looking for a job, you can go to their store located near the meijer on lima road, to</media:text>

<media:text>quality problem - things might finally be turning around. 47 abc's dani bozzini has been following this for the past few months - and joins us now live in studio with more on this update. so dani - here's the question - how's the water? well julian from the residents i spoke with- the water seems to be pretty good but its not all the way there yet. a few months ago i don't think anyone would have dared to drink this water straight out of the faucet. but today -- that's not case -- as the water doesn't look like this anymore -- its the opposite...clear for the first time in almost 4 decades. now -- residents are just hoping -- this clear water is here to stay. track imagine turning on your faucet..and this is the water that comes out.. well for about 40 years that was the reality in pocomoke city... when we wash our clothes everything is so irony i mean you start out with a white shirt/sweater and you end up after a couple washes its yellowish track residents say the water has always been an issue... we have a filter system here thats supposed to last three months but ill be lucky if i get three weeks out of all the rust and the dirt and stuff i was beginning to think they were never going to do anything about it track but there might finally be a light at the end of the tunnel its been terrible since living here they are finally starting to do something about it however its still not good good but it is a whole lot better than what it was track the reason-- this new iorex device that was installed over a month ago...a device that is designed to flush out all the iron and rust residents have been seeing in their water for years. a device that now seems to be working. everyone was even scared to turn their faucets on. but now drinks water we can drink water in the heights laughs track you can already see the difference.. this is a shot of the old water...now this is what's coming out of people's sinks. a huge improvement...but not quite a complete solution. again it's not 100% but it's 100% better than it was. but we're stilhaving a high concentrate of iron track even though its not perfect yet residents and city officials excited for what could be... the end to pocomoke's water issues. its still not the way it should be its been so bad for so long i guess we're just happy that it is getting better 004118 track dani bozzini, 47 abc pocomoke city manager -- bobby cowger tells us he hopes these new improvements in their water will spark some new residents to move to the city. he also adds that they are continuing to work on replacing the old pipes with plastic pipes. cowger believes they might have as good of water quality as anyone else by the end of this year. julian? alright thanks dani - again that 47 abc's dani bozzini reporting live for us in studio tonight.</media:text>

<media:text>there's new research out this morning showing that counting calories can help you live longer. and scientists are also looking into the connection between how often you eat and chronic pain. meg oliver has this morning's health watch. neuro-scientists at the university of pennsylvania say the brain has a way to suppress chronic pain when we are hungry. researchers manipulated neurons in the brains of mice to prioritize the perception of hunger over pain. they discovered that chronic pain was reduced. depression may increase the risk of an irregular heartbeat. a study presented at an american heart association meeting shows patients tested for depression as well as those taking anti- depressants had a 30-percent greater risk of developing a heart rhythm disorder than those not taking depression medication at all. and new findings show that cutting calories by 15-percent for at least two years can slow aging. researchers in louisiana say calorie restrictions can also protect against age- related diseases. those are some of the day's top medical stories. i'm meg oliver, in new york.</media:text>

<media:text>the forecast. a massive cleanup effort is underway - after more than 40 thousand gallons of diesel spill in posey county. 44news reporter chris mastrobuono is here with a look at the spill - and the cleanup that's now taking place. chris? around 9 p-m tuesday night marathon fuel officials detected a pressure drop in one of their fuel lines. they immediately contacted posey county officials to find the source of the fuel leak. today officials were on scene cleaning up the fuel and pinpointing where the leak originated. "my dispatch center called me, which is routine in situations like this, and i went out alone with the marathon people, we were looking for where it might be." after the smell of fuel permeating the air it was discovered fuel had leaked along copperline road over big creek, just north of mount vernon. posey county e-m-a director larry robb immediately made calls to both the state and the indiana department of environment management. -- robb says marathon made all those calls before he did - so he knew the county was in good hands. "that line comes from the refinery in rumsfield, il, crosses the wabash river in gibson, co, then that line turns south and comes to the finished product terminal in mount vernon." indiana department of environment management and department of natural resources officials were all on scene as well. crews had to set booms to collect the fuel and clean up the scene. officials stress there was never any danger. "there is no drinking water communities, that use water from the rivers effected, because mount vernon is the only community that gets their water out of the river, and they get it out of the ohio, new harmony, poseyville and the others get theirs from wells in the ground." marathon crews have been on top of the situation since tuesday night. the spill is contained and officials are working to complete their response. "they have an excellent response team, they have people on call, they have environmental companies on call, and they have a good track record of quick and proper response." i reached out to marathon - whose officials wouldn't talk on camera. marathon has a command center set up in new harmony and they will remain there until the cleanup is over. chris mastrobuono 44news. two people</media:text>

<media:text>known as the vernal equinox - the time when the sun's center lines up directly with the earth's equator. day and night are almost exactly the same length. where the sun rises almost precisely to the east and sets to the exact west because it is at the celestial longitude of 0 degrees. now bringing things back here to the surface and we're left with an interesting myth: is it easier to balance an egg on the equinox or not? the quick answer is no...egg balancing can be done throughout the year and has no connection to the gravitational force of the sun or moon...but you know we've got to put this hypothesis to the test! i'm no egg balancing expert, but it's fun to know that egg balancing has a much longer tradition than one might think. it's a traditional chinese practice and sometimes connected with the dragon boat festival. it became quite popular here in the united states and in 1976, a new york artist organized a ceremony dedicated to balancing eggs. live in rochester, i'm meteorologist sara knox with kimt news 3. thank you sara. / thanks,</media:text>

<media:text>sewer rates for people living in jay county could soon be going up.the jay county regional sewer district says the 25 dollar a month increase is needed because it can no longer afford to handle rate increases from other towns. tonight ... those sewer customers weighed in during a public hearing at the jay county court house.fox 55's cody butler was there. i feel like this was saddled upon us unjust and unfair. derek rodgers is just one of nearly 100 customers in the jay county regional sewer district.the sewer district was created after jay county was fined by the indiana department of environmental management back in 2005.12 years later ... the sewer district is asking the jay county council to approve a rate hike to keep paying for expenses ... as required by state law.however, rodgers doesn't think it should come from the customers already struggling. i feel like that should come from the county subsidy, county involvement because it was their issue to begin with. the sewer district is required to charge customers enough to cover all of it's expenses.that includes a loan and fees imposed by the towns of portland and dunkirk for the district to use those treatment facilities.both towns recently raised their rates for the sewer district ... which the district can no longer afford. but they still have to pay portland and dunkirk. the jay county regional sewer district is prohibited by statute from adopting a rate that doesn't cover their costs. rodgers says he wouldn't mind paying for the system if it actually worked. he says there's been times he's had to fix the system at his house. our pump station has had a couple troubles. it gets full and you have to go out there and try to flip the float and get it to reset.</media:text>

<media:text>every year in the united states... an estimated 300- thousand children become victims of human trafficking. it's a growing crime in wisconsin... but even those working against it say they don't have a full understanding of how widespread it really is. news 3's brittany paris is here this morning to explain new training aimed at raising awareness on a crime that's rarely out in the open. good morning, brittany. good morning. human trafficking is called a hidden crime because victims are often scared to come forward. and many times, traffickers rely on places like hotels to keep their operations running. so a new webinar is training hotel staff across the state on what to look for and what to do if they think someone is a victim. officials say those workers are the ones most likely to notice if something is off... so this online training is teaching them what to look for, like guests over using do not distrub signs, and who to alert. the department of children and families partnered with the department of justice and the wisconsin hotel and lodging association to create the webinars. dr. joy ippolito anti-human trafficking coordinator, division of safety and permanence department of children and families (((" "our hope is that all of the different hotel and lodging properties will eventaully take the training. it was launched back in the end of january. the wisconsin hotel and lodging assocaition sent the links out across state to almost 3,000 hotel and lodging propertiesin wisconsin."))) the webinars are free and available in several languages. the training also urges hotel staff to refrain from intervening personally when they suspect human trafficking... and to contact police even if they think they might be misreading a situation. aside from this training... a new law was passed this session that allows the state's attorney general to subponea hotels for their internet records. and later on this year, the state is launching a prevention and awareness campaign. so a lot is being done to fight human trafficking. brittany, thank you.</media:text>

<media:text>chasing their dreams. . a cheerleading team in kent county has qualified for one of the most prestigious competitions in the nation - for the first time in 15 years. but now the squad full of resilient elementary and middle schoolers may have all their hard work go to waste if they don't get some serious community support soon. 47 abc's taylor lumpkin spent her afternoon with these young girls and has more now. cheerleading cheers we fundraise and fundraise and fundraise and i just don't want to tell 25 kids that we can't go because of money track 1 15 thousand dollars - that's all that's separating the campus community schools cheerleading squad from a chance of lifetime to compete in the national high school cheerleading championship that's held at the walt disney world resort in orlando, florida every year. not everybody gets to go you have to actually win your spot, earn it, and i think it's a one time opportunity this is like... you don't get it all the time track 2 the cougars punched their ticket back in december when they won regional's. snapping a 15 year drought - where they failed to qualify each year. but now they face a different challenge - money. because delaware doesn't recognize cheerleading as a high school sport - the girls must raise everything themselves. we've done sponsorship letters my parents have been hitting the pavement asking businesses we created a sponsorship program to attract businesses and individuals who are interested in sponsoring track 4 the campus community school is considered a title one school. where most of the kids live at or below the poverty level. a trip to disney would mean the world to them - a chance to go to the happiest place on earth. so far the girls have raised 15 thousand themselves - the other 15 they're hoping will come from the community they hope to represent. i believe in our community i believe in this area butt sot so if you can help this team get to the sunshine state head on over to the campus community school in dover where they say every little bit helps. reporting in dover i'm taylor lumpkin 47abc now the cheerleading squad can accept donations up until february 3rd-- where they then are scheduled to leave for competion on the 9th if you are interested in learning how you can help the team get to florida visit our website at 47 abc. dot com tonight will be a</media:text>

<media:text>still very low. after the first of the year you might not be able to find the light bulbs you've used in the past. the sale incandescent lightbulbs will be banned. retailers will no longer receive the incandescent lightbulbs. for customers that means choosing among more efficient bulbs that use no more than 72 watts, including halogen incandescents, compact fluorescents and light-emitting diode, or led, bulbs service manager gary wilson from north valley lighting galleria says that changes to the more efficient bulbs may make them more appealing to shoppers who have been resistent in the past. "the advancement of led bulbs that they're familiar now are more better and much more affordable and they've done much better with the color that the light bulb gives out, making them look more warm looking and more inducent to a home environment there than bluish which they were for a long time." stores that already have incandescent bulbs on their shelves can continue to sell the ones they already have. but once those run out shoppers will have to make the switch</media:text>

<media:text>salmon are struggling to return back to the sacramento river because...well, they don't know the right directions. in april 20-14.... 4 million fall chinook were released from coleman national fish hatchery and 8 million were put on a truck and taken up to san francisco bay via highway because the drought lowered water levels. the following year...they trucked all 12 million salmon. the problem with trucking salmon...is they miss the imprinting stage....leaving them lost on their trip back. 5-thousand-five-hundred fish returned to coleman national fish hatchery this year. with those fish they were able to make 6 million eggs. that sounds like a lot...but the goal was double that. the past few years they've released 12 million fish in april. they did expect the numbers to be down because of the trucking...but not down this much. however, they believe if they would have released the fish into the low rivers instead of trucking them...more would have been lost in the end. "it's a gem of the northstate, you can come out here in october and see thousands of fish out here in battle creek and there's a lot of people that depend their livelihood or they go fishing for their entertainment. i think if you're not concerned about salmon then their might be another species that you will be concerned about so i think it's definitely very important." he has high hopes that next fishing season, there won't be any bans on chinook salmon. a wet spring will play a huge roll in making</media:text>
