Start-Up Church Brings Fireworks to Roselle & Backpacks to Students, Friday, July 5, 6:45 PM

An outstanding tradition is returning to Roselle this summer along with
great music and a greater cause. The citizens of Roselle will once again celebrate Independence Day with
a free fireworks display and more on July 5th.

The celebration was under threat of cancellation for a second consecutive year prior to a last minute
donation to Roselle’s “Get a Bang for Your Buck” campaign by For the 10, a community service focused
ministry of Mission Church out of Bloomingdale. For the 10 was able to match the donations already
raised to bring this year’s fireworks display back.

In addition to the fireworks display, Mission Church hired American English, a popular Beatles tribute
band, to perform a free concert that will begin at 6:45 p.m. at Lake Park (West Campus) on July 5th. The
free concert will be followed by the fireworks at dusk.

The July 5th events are being utilized to promote Project Just Start. Project Just Start, organized by For the
10, has a goal of providing at least 1,000 fully loaded backpacks to children from families facing economic
challenges in the area that Mission Church has termed “The 10.”

Last year Mission Church was able to raise 508 fully loaded backpacks, which benefitted children from 11
different schools in 6 towns. While this year’s goal is to double last year’s achievement, the longer term
goal is to eliminate this need entirely. Mission’s research shows that there are at least 2,500 elementary age
students alone in The 10 that could benefit from Project Just Start.

Mission Church Pastor Jon Peacock said: “We work closely with a number of schools in The 10 on a
variety of initiatives to serve the students and their families. We believe that beginning school without a
backpack and necessary supplies provides students with an unjust and unequal start to the year, and we felt
called to lead the way in responding by creating Project Just Start. We will continue to seek ways to
partner with local businesses and others in the community to serve the people of The 10.”
