Interview with Sammi Yumnam

Sammi Yumnam is an independent vocal artist from Imphal who strive towards multi genre singing perfection. She is the nurtured child of a strong artistic family background and brains from various renowned artist of Manipur.

CM: Who put you into the bed of music?

SAMMI: Definitely my whole family: Mom, dad and my elder siblings, Ichema and Tamo. As far as my memory can take me back, as a small girl I was given the freedom to sing my heart out in the household or at the leikai’s yaosang club, listen to all the records they had at the time (Ichema had huge collections of the 90s boy bands’ cassettes and Tamo had this random crazy collections of pop and rap music that I’d sing and rap along with!) and watch the MTV channel and Channel [V] with them. In my childhood, I had this experience of mom and dad singing with Oja Pabung (renowned Hindustani classical music teacher late. H. Modhu Sharma) every evening. It not only made an impression on my mind but I was taught to revere music from a very young age.

CM: Family’s relation with art.

SAMMI: It is with great honour and humility as I share this. As far as my family heritage is concerned, I hail from quite an artistically vibrant background. Both my parents are devoted to the field of art themselves but they have always maintained the academic atmosphere in the family to remain dominant and a priority. We have been brought up in an environment that strictly regards academics as the most essential element that binds everything else together. Academic excellence and extra-curricular activities go hand in hand. My mom, Chongtham Rita Devi, is an English lecturer and a writer who has earned her Visharad degree in Hindustani classical music and Natyacharya degree in Manipuri dance. My dad, Yumnam Shantikumar Singh, a retired teacher, is a Hindustani classical and ghazal singer who performed abundantly in his heyday and also an approved ‘modern song’ singer of AIR Imphal. Both of them are the strongest pillars of support in my music, dance and academic careers. Their never ending encouragement, words of wisdom and strict way of bringing us up have shaped our whole approach and attitude towards life and art. And I have my 2 sisters, Ichema (Devashree), who has the sweetest voice; Badee (Bageshree), who has got some serious pipes and my only brother Tamo (Ashish), who has the craziest passion for music. They are the most insanely caring bunch of people that I could ever ask for in my life. The person that I am today is because of these wonderful people in my life (big smiles).

CM: Apart from talent, what do we need for success?

SAMMI: “Talent rides on character...” my mom always says. And I speak from experience, character is everything tripled with humility, respect and perseverance. Talent is just a small portion of the pie. I have met these insanely talented people who have the utmost respect and appreciation for their talented peers. Their humble attitude have impressed me deeply and struck a chord in my heart. Humility is thus a noble element needed in an artist’s life. This gesture of theirs which echoes of greatness is so beautiful and makes me want to work on how I carry myself in this circle. I am glad I have this to take away from all the great talents I have come across in my life. Their general attitude just speaks a lot louder than their gifted skills. Devotion to their respective art, hard work and sincerity are also essential to reach the top of success.

And yes. A little touch of humour makes the mood a little more relaxing in the jam pad, doesn’t it? (smiles)

CM: Which vocal styles do you like the most and why?

SAMMI: The thing is I listen to many styles of music as much as I can and try to imbibe them into my system. That’s how I learn and grow anyway. Opening up to various genres gives me a perspective of the different vocal techniques and styles that I can use on myself besides widening my musical repertoire. But one thing I try to stick to is POWER. Power-driven vocal style of music excites me. From power comes tone texture and tricks to manipulate my vocal pipes. However if I have to name a style, there is a couple of them out there close to my heart. With time my tastes have also changed. As a high school kid, I grew up listening from pop, country to rock music, classic to modern alternative. I used to worship Alanis Morissette’s bold attitude, her lyrics and that unique voice of hers. She still inspires me till today. And every night I used to fall asleep listening to the ethereal sounds of Pink Floyd, David Gilmour’s soothing voice and guitar and Joe Satriani (I still do!)

And when I entered my college years, my ears started to develop a taste towards the rich vibrant sounds of blues rock like Eric Clapton, Dire Straits, Led Zeppelin, Aerosmith and the mellower soulful blues/r&b/soul/jazz/swing music especially those of the 50s 60s eras. The power-packed booming vocals of the big Black women like Big Mama Thornton, Aretha Franklin, Etta James and Nina Simone just completely threw me off the cliff. I truly admire the effortless vocal instruments of these soul sisters. Amen! And then I started tapping into the craziness of Miss Janis Joplin’s intimidating and electric style of singing. The personality of her gritty high pitched shrilly husky voice is insanely out of this world. I will be God-honest and say that even attempting to sing her songs gives me the heebie-jeebies. But I want to clear one thing here, I sing Janis because I am simply a huge fan of hers like anybody else but I am not stupid to even let the thought of imitating her giant of a vocal or eccentric style of singing cross my mind. She sings like an angel in pain, like there is no tomorrow. I experience this incredible connection with the words in her songs and her voice so vulnerable that makes the hairs on my neck stand. That’s why I love singing her songs.

I also love the vocal strengths and styles of Steve Tyler, Robert Plant, Jack White, Chris Martin, Michael Buble, Adele, Alicia Keys, Amy Winehouse, Duffy, Joss Stone and Beyonce. And my list is quite long!

CM: When do you feel you have reached the depth of a song?

SAMMI: That is when I get totally lost inside the song. When I am fully in the zone I do forget I am performing for an audience. I am singing for my own soul. And it’s like when I hear the crowd cheering, I am back to my senses. It’s a thrilling experience. Singing is absolutely spiritual to me.

I have had a couple of occasions when people came up to me after my performance and said, ‘’ you gave me these...” and showed me the hairs on their arms stand. Oh my..! What..!!?? Did I do that!? It is extremely humbling and beyond belief when something like that happens once in a while. Out of this world feeling! I feel like I have accomplished what I set out to do: to connect. For me that’s the whole point of doing music, when you are able to invoke something in the audience who is listening to you, when you are able to give them an experience. I am not just singing on a fancy stage all dressed up for a show, I am telling a story through the energy of those words, notes, melodies and movements. I want you to feel that energy and those emotions projected by the song. Basically, I get high on the music. And I am more than happy to share this experience with people who are looking for one. It’s all about the FEEL of the song that gets everyone going. And a big shout-out to those who get me (smiles).

CM: What do you do in particular apart from music?

SAMMI: Apart from music, I spend a good amount of time with my books. Since my nursery throughout my high school and college, I have been a student of good grades and I try to maintain that. I am a student of B.A Education honours in my final semester. I am also a Japanese Language student. I take keen interest in this language and their culture. I also learn and perform Manipuri Classical Solo Dance. I like reading novels & articles, I write poems and random stuff and am a big time foodie! I am fascinated by the powers of human mind and the universe in all its glory.

CM: Any musical qualification? Who helped you with the lessons?

SAMMI: I am learning Hindustani Classical music under the guidance of Shri. Sagolsem Krishna. Ka Krishna has been a close family friend even before I was born. I have passed my 3rd year (Madhyama) from SSBD Music College Imphal. I am however currently taking a break due to my final year of college. Mostly my mom helps me with this area of music and so does my dad. Though not my strongest suit, Hindustani Classical Music has helped me build my vocal strength and versatility. And I find it challenging and I take pride in it because it’s a family tradition of ours.

CM: Any other art forms from music?

SAMMI: Since my childhood, I very often used to follow my mom and attended Basanta rasa and Maharasa as we reside near the Govindaji temple. Also I learnt initial Bhangi and Chali steps from Oja Shrimati Ibemhal Devi of Government Dance College Imphal. Growing up I joined FADAC (Federal Academy of Dance and Culture) as a student and a performer. Presently I am learning solo Manipuri classical dance under the guidance of Oja Shri P. Dhanajit and OJa Shri. T. Tiken. I have performed solo classical dance on many occasions since my high school till present. In future I do have plans of completing my degree in it after getting my music degree.

CM: How would you prefer the reward of your works?

SAMMI: Whatever I do and achieve in any field regardless, making my parents proud and seeing the smiles on their faces. That is the biggest reward I can ever ask for. And I also want to feel the contentment myself of having done something that I can be proud of and that my family can be proud of. And the simple gesture of my well wishers and friends showing appreciation and commending me on my efforts makes me want to push ahead.

CM: Associated with any other musical personalities?

SAMMI: Among whose association I spent my childhood with, late Hajarimayum Modhu Sharma whom I used to call Oja Pabung is one. Another very loving and great man I came across was Eiga Pabung (late B. Jayantakumar Sharma) whose words of love are still ringing in my ears as if they were yesterday. And Mamo Pahari (Late Nongmaithem Pahari) is another who was close to our family. It was not known to me as a child that these loving people in my life were great personalities in the field of music. I pay my respect to these blessed souls.

And then seven years ago, I joined this big family of “rock” music circle through the band Cygnus (Da Thoi, Da Vavindra, Da Bungobi, Billai and Suren). I have come across so many great people since then, and I constantly learn from them now and then. I call myself very lucky to be in the company of Guru Rewben Mashangva (Naga Folk Blues), Ringo Golmei (former Phynyx), Vikram Chongtham (Fubar Ghetto), Chongtham Thoi (Cleave), G. Nandaraj (Pulse Pundit) and few other musical giants of this fraternity. Getting a chance to play and perform with this pantheon of great musicians is a huge learning experience for a kid like me who is still growing and absorbing every bit of advice they give. To receive words of encouragement from these folks is priceless. They teach me what it really takes to stay in the game and hold my ground.

CM: How is your musical illusion?

SAMMI: Someday I want to be able to dress up as a jazz singer from the 50s, vintage style and sing “My Funny Valentine” and “Cry Me a River” somewhere in a cool jazz bar in New York. Wouldn’t that be a dream come true (smiles)..!

Anyways, I want to go far ahead with my music and touch people’s hearts. All I ask for is their love and support which act as my fuel. I want to travel the world for big music festivals and my love for performing arts will grow. And I want to thank those who watch out for me and encourage my genuine passion for singing.

I do have this vision of our government starting notice the unexplored young talents of this land as far as the scene of “Rock” music goes. We should be provided a platform to showcase our talents and reach out to the world outside at large. Where is the encouragement, the support and the incentives? Here I want to draw attention of the state government. I want to hear about music schemes and scholarships for talented kids. Our tiny land sprouts latent talents day by day and they need nurturing. We have so much potential that is just brushed aside and hushed. But on a positive note, today we are seeing a gradual change in the scene thanks to the youths of this generation, whose voices are growing louder and ever persistent.

CM: Do you really like your voice compared to other famous voices, what is that so special about your voice?

SAMMI: I do listen to the voices of famous people and try to take notes of the techniques they use. I am still learning and I don’t consider myself to have a great voice for me to even start making comparisons with them in the first place. I still haven’t reached that height. I have a long way to go. There are times I really hate my voice and don’t even listen to myself sing let alone liking it. It’s rare to find myself say… ” Hey I sang good this time…or that song”. I am my own harshest critic and I still am not completely satisfied with my voice because I can hear the flaws, knowing that I can do much better. I have to constantly work on myself and improve, improve and improve. It is a longing desire of mine to be vocally coached by a professional trainer someday. However I do compare my own voice throughout my musical journey from the start until now. To some extent it has improved a lot better than when I first started out and that makes me feel good in a way.

And the second part of the question, what is so special about my voice (smiles). I leave this to my friends, well wishers and people who love and support me to answer…

CM: What do you like most as a girl?

SAMMI: Female species are the better creation of God that’s why I can walk around in pants and still pull it off by a mile than a man who wears kilts with hairy legs. Ahem. Jokes aside, girls are a beautiful paradox of unwavering strength and incredible softness like the water. A woman is a symbol of compassion. I love being a girl and to be able to play a role in the field of women empowerment one day would make my existence more meaningful.

And I want to wrap up with the words of one of my favourites by Mr. James Brown… “This is a man’s world… this is a man’s world… but it wouldn’t be nothing... nothing. Without a woman or a girl.” This song says it all for me and my girls out there..!

JEET SINGH

Jeet Singh is a blooming music composer, producer and a multi-talented instrumentalist who started his musical journey from a Manipuri album in Imphal.

Club Muzik: You sing, you write, you compose and you produce music. How would you introduce yourself?
Jeet: As Singer /Writer/ Composer/ Music Producer LOL. Well on a serious note am an Artist, and i try and express in whatever ways that seem natural to me. And with the digital Explosion happening all around, so many tasks and processes take a lot less time to execute. Hence, it comes relatively easier to wear several professional hats these days.

Directing Music Video is one more thing, i have recently fallen in love with. Yes, Directing Music Video Specifically :-)

Club Muzik: There is no easy way to great success. Suggest us some of the simplest way to make music?
Jeet: I definitely agree, There is no easy way to great success (Music Making also has its various stages, from conception of an idea or a tune to the Final Product). Also the journey consists of constant learning and practice. There is no "One Formula".

I'd say the simplest way of making music would be expressing yourself through the simplest Musical instrument according to the person. It could be through voice, guitar, or even a tin can, u know, just beating away to glory :-) as long as it evokes some form of emotion. It's not how much we know; it's how we make the most of how much ever we know.

However for the more serious Studio kind of Music making/Production, there are different layers of both creative and technical processes.

Although Tools and Equipments are relatively more Accessible than, the past few decades, ultimately it's your creativity and the way u use the tools and your expertise which is going to help you make “Quality Music". I personally try and help so many aspiring Singers / Music Composers/ Beats makers / Bands through, Music Production Workshops and Various Music Production Classes. I will be conducting one such Workshop in Imphal this coming January.

Club Muzik: How does the post production works in your line of music making?
Jeet: As i have mentioned above, there are different layers of both creative and technical processes. The same goes with Mixing and Mastering a Track or an Album (Audio Post Production). Even though we use a lot of technical tools in the work flow, it's the emotion of the song which is given the most importance. Think about it; an awesome composition with ok quality production might pass an audience/ listener, but a bad composition with awesome production value may not. So whatever different approaches we take ultimately it's the emotion of the track that we are trying to bring out in the best way possible.

Club Muzik: We see that you have associated with various artist and bands including various technical persons. Share us your experiences?
Jeet: I have been lucky to have associated/worked with so many amazing artist/Band/musician and technical guys. It has always been an awesome experience. I also learn a lot from it as every individual has their own style and if u keep your eyes, ears and mind open, there's always something new to learn in every experience.

Here are some of the brilliant Associations I have had.

Made a Jingle in association with Shekhar Kapur for Qyuki.com (A shekhar kapur and A.R Rahman Initiative), which I composed and sang in. I was working with Qyuki.com for a brief period of 4 months as Music Composer/Music Producer, before i moved on to work on my first Feature Film “Station" as Music Director and Background Score producer. I met Saad Khan (Director) and Sumit Ghosh (Producer) through this film and I wanna take this opportunity to thank them both for believing in me and my Music.

And of course, Associating with Bands and Artist from Manipur has always been a fun experience. Some Bands and Artist i have associated with from Manipur are : Recycle, The Dirty Strikes, Rubicons, Singzu Joint, Pendulum Swing, June Neelu, Young Dirrt, AK Jan (Arun), and Ranbir Thouna.

Club Muzik: Tell us your view to how an artist or a band gets the best recording quality at home?
Jeet: Well, this one can be a tad bit long an answer, so I'll just talk about one thing which personally i believe is the most important in Home Recording. It’s understood that every step is important, every track needs to be at its best compliment. But this one thing am talking about is to make sure the Song sounds almost exactly the way u want it to, even before u give to a mixing engineer or you yourself start mixing. The Mix Can Only be awesome if the Recorded Tracks themselves are...

Club Muzik: What is the idea behind shifting brand to Jeet Singh rather than your initially known Tulajit?
Jeet: Brand Jeet Singh personally is a new Me that's all. I am still very proud of Brand Tulajit because that's how it all started.

Club Muzik: Tell us about your debut album "Impression" way back in your career?
Jeet: Impression was a turning point. And I still cherish every bit of the experience of making that Album and the little recognition that it brought along. Thanx to Uncle O. Binod (Owner Bindiya Studio), Sound Engineer O. Bobby, Music director O. Geet and Thangjam Tomba. Last but not the least my friends (25th Souls, Sainik School Imphal) and my Family and of course my fans ,who believed in me and helped me take that leap of faith into Music as a Career.
Club Muzik: How do you devote yourself to music?
Jeet: Making Music / Performing Music is the most Natural thing to me. I just keep doing it over and over again trying to better myself. That's how i devote myself to Music.

Club Muzik: What is your say on "the new trends are low on musical professionalism in terms of music education and conducts"?
Jeet: The way, in which the new trends of Musical Culture shaped up has been pretty inevitable with Technology shrinking so many steps to few automated tasks. For Example, Now a days u can complete a song in few hours using just some few i phone apps. However does it automatically give you a good song? Not really. So in the midst of all this abundance and accessibility, creative ideas and skills, still are the real differentiator. There might be a lot more music being made and a lot more Artist coming up however only a few stands out. A good composer or a singer is still good with any changing technology. So getting your basics right still is the most fundamental thing to do. It's not much of Gibson Les Paul making Slash's solo guitar sound good, but more of what Slash plays making Gibson Les Paul Sounds Good.
Club Muzik: How do you visualize the future music would sound like?
Jeet: A lot more Diverse. Trending sounds will change faster. And Digital/Synthetic Sounds are here to stay for a lil longer.

Club Muzik: Some of the best things your music have given you?
Jeet: I'd say i am everything that i am because of music. It shapes me as a person. I've learnt a lot about life itself through Music. The never ending joy of being able to express through music is the best thing Music has given me.

Club Muzik: How do you grow yourself to get the best in you?
Jeet: I Adapt, take failures for it's much needed value in life and Focus on the possible positive outcome of my Effort and enjoy every little bit of gratification that whatever Little success brings. And that's how i grow to get the best in me.

Club Muzik: Pre-paid or post-paid electricity billing? (*off topic question)
Jeet: Whichever last longer in a day or week LOL :-)

FRINGES

Fringes is a blues rock band from Manipur who believes in negotiating with the changing cultural reality by experimenting with and improvising on the Western musical form of blues and thereby exploring the possibility of subverting and transforming different social spaces.

Club Muzik: What was you all individually before Fringes?

Fringes: Haraba Ningthoukhongjam (vocalist) - He has toured extensively with the band, Placid Dreams in Manipur. He has also done a few studio recordings including the title track of a tele-film for Doordarshan, North East.

Thingnam Sanjeev (Guitarist) - I have been playing with different bands like Kanglasha(Delhi), Kalpvriksh (Delhi), Imphal Talkies and the Howlers (Delhi) and Fubar Ghetto (Delhi).

Gautam Sorokhaibam (Guitarist) - He started playing guitar at the age of 12 and has played and toured with many bands like Hole of Fame and Placid Dreams. He joined Heavy Water (a Classic Heavy metal band) with whom he worked with for some of their original tracks.

Shankar Sapam (Bass) - Shankar learned guitar from his elder brother and played in inter-state competitions. It was when he moved to Mumbai in 1996 that he further honed his skills as a bass guitarist and keyboardist. Having performed in various festivals of the colleges and universities in Mumbai and Gujarat, he has also participated in Mood indigo IIT (Mumbai) rock competitions from 1996 to 2001. At present he is working as a sound recordist at Shallow River Studios, Imphal.

Sunil Loitongbam (Drummer) - Coming from a highly musical family of Late. L. Menjor Singh, and L. Smt. Sumati Devi of Imphal, Sunil loves to play and tease out challenging grooves on his drums. He has been playing with various bands since 1989. He has played in Mumbai from 1992 till 2000. Has studio experience with Studio Smoke (also known as Ranjit Studios) as an assistant Engineer until the end of 2001. He studied sound recording and reproduction in Mumbai. Since 2003 he has been working with Shallow River Studio, Imphal as a Sound Engineer and Studio Musician. He has worked as Music Director in various jingles, tele-films, digital films and some award winning documentaries. He is currently into enhancing his skills in local folk music of the North-East of India.

Some of his major projects are as follows –

1. Challenge – National Award (Documentary)

2. Songs of Mashangva – National Award (Documentary)

3. Real – Museum of Modern Art (MOMA), New York

4. HOPE – Documentary

5. Eye of an Eye – Short Film

Club Muzik: How is the blues population in the state?

Fringes: Since blues belongs to the sub-cultural domain, the crowd in Manipur is understandably meager but we are catching up and can bank on a stable selective chunk of blues lovers.

Club Muzik: We feel we are flooded with bands these days but the mark to be "the greatest band" seems to be lacking in most. What do you see?

Fringes: As I said genre like blues, rock, metal etc. are the sub-culture of Manipur, the dominant culture are the Manipuri Hindustani music, Traditional folk music and now the modern Manipuri songs usually featured in Manipuri films and private music video album.

I would say that the concept of band started quite early in Manipur, in the late 60s we have had Magnetos, Run Away Tracks (70s). Inspite of having lot of talented musicians, we are lagging behind when compared to our neighboring states like Nagaland, Mizoram and Meghalaya. Besides, the lack of sponsorship and patronage are the contributing factors of not producing ‘the greatest band’ in Manipur. But dedication and hard work are very much required in every band to reach to that level.

Club Muzik: Each of us has our own style of doing things. Tell us few things about each one of you in the band in handling their instruments like tuning, positioning, cleaning, technique, etc.?

Fringes: Haraba as a vocalist he would always prefer to carefully listen to the overall musical production and is very particular about timing. His sense of putting things together is quite sharp. As far as my guitar playing is concern I normally follow my heart beat, even if my band members tells me to come to the groove following certain rules, manya times I missed it, so I thought I should follow my instinct better than following rules of engagement. Anyways, saying this I can’t lose the timing because music defines with sound and the time synchronization. Our other guitarist (Gautam Sorokhaibam @ Falao), he is very particular of his guitar tone work, he would love to gel with different sound of blues. And also his approach to blues is different with me, so we two produce different orientation of blue notes.

Shankar Sapam our bass player he is our techy guy, having had the experience of working in studio for quite sometime, he looks after whether our sound is right or not. He is very accurate in handling things, we have to follow him when he says “stick to the bar”. Then our Drummer Mr. Sunil Loitongbam, born in a family where his parents are both into music, he is a keen observer of what we all do in the band right from the note we strum and the tuning. He is the senior most in the band, so we always look up to him for his directives.

Club Muzik: How much preference do the band gives on physical appearance/looks apart from the music you make?

Fringes: At times, Haraba yell about wearing a cap which we did it during a Sangai Festival in 2012. Apart from that we don’t give too much emphasis on the physical appearance and the look. But, as we are playing blues, we never wear that kind of clothes which can distract our crowds from our subtle music (we prefer formal & descent clothes that suits to our music style). Sometime people called us as “Fringes the Old Boys band” from Manipur. But we feel good that way.

Club Muzik: What is your believe in naming a band? What all did you considered while naming Fringes?

Fringes: While doing research on Frontier historiography of the 19th century of Northeast British India, I found out that there is more continuity than change with what we experienced in the past and the present. The quagmire situation of the present is linked with the historical conception of this space. As also suggestive in its name, Fringes, the band is committed to exploring and articulating issues and conditions of marginality. The band members belong to a milieu where many cultural imprints could be found, from the traditional musical culture of the region to the wave and onslaught of Hindustani and Western music that came through colonialism and globalization at different phases of the region’s history. How does one receive and live with such a history? The band believes in negotiating with the changing cultural reality by experimenting with and improvising on the Western musical form of blues and thereby exploring the possibility of subverting and transforming different social spaces. In other words, Fringes could also be defined as a band-in-the-making, it looks forward to further exploring and incorporating the moods and sounds of the regional culture in a way that would only enrich and expand its process of experimentation. Through the medium of blues it narrates stories from the region that are told and untold, stories of pain and angst, of love and loss.

Club Muzik: Apart from good music how do you want to entertain your fans?

Fringes: As we know blues has the power of narrating stories through its musical structure, when we narrate our stories which come out from the lived experiences that will certainly touched other people’s heart. And we also believed that art cannot be created in vacuum so whatever we do it will definitely reflects what is happening in and around us.

Club Muzik: What can we look for in the band that doesn't seems as it looks?

Fringes: Well, people might think that blues is imported from the west, so it is not suitable to our culture. But we think that blues is universal.

Club Muzik: Can you share us one thing you all wanted to do in life apart from Fringes?

Fringes: I would like to travel a lot and see the world and learn different culture. Secondly, we would like to groom young artists and create good platform to grow as a qualified musician.
Club Muzik: When do you think a band will or is at the peak of its career?

Fringes: We would like to collaborate with many great artists and do more charitable shows for the conflict victims.

Club Muzik: Suggest some production tips for our budding friends?

Fringes: Well, now a days it’s quite easy to record our master pieces, whenever u strike new ideas you can just record it in any gadgets like mobile phone, computer etc. and from that scratch you can build on a full song.

Club Muzik: Any particular activity together as a band besides Fringes?

Fringes: Involved in Manipur Music Society activities, organizing fest like Nongin Music Festival 2013 i.e. a three days music festival where all the musicians and bands with different genres of the State performs and share ideas of different music dialect through their performances.

B Maisnam is an upcoming artist mostly known for his appealing music videos. He is one of the most trending star among the youth here in Manipur.

Q 1. What were you before getting into music and video makings, what influenced you?

B Maisnam: I was pursuing my engineering in CSE at SRM Chennai and I passed out on 2010. Since from my teen days, I was greatly influenced by a sub-culture known as Hip-Hop. Eminem stood out among all the talented artistes as a rapper. Eminem mostly influence me because I respected how he came to be from a fatherless son who has gone through many hardships and struggle to become the most popular rap artist known today.

Q2. What’s cooking in your production banner these days?

B Maisnam: Since many admirers love my work I have many engagements under my production with 8 projects which is coming this October. To mention a few of my personal projects will be MOVE ON, EMA and NEVER GONE which is based upon my own personal struggle. After NEVER GONE I would be behind the scenes promoting young artistes and presenting new talented art lovers since I also want to promote our indigenous cultures and talents around the world.

Q3. How is your learning process to music and video?

B Maisnam: Since I was a music lover and wanted to make videos to communicate with the audiences. Me, in my graduation days were my finest since I was out of the state and was exposed to much new things and advancement. I dedicated myself into taking online classes at NYFA (New York Film Academy) which help me do research into my music and video making. Also YouTube has been my Pandora’s Box which has enticed me into a whole new possibility and educational advantages. YouTube as a whole is a medium where anyone who has talent can show the world what he is made off. Besides this many educational lessons can also be learned from it along with the songs and the movies.

Q4. A picture speaks a thousand words. Share your views on visual needs of a song/music?

B Maisnam: I think it is very important for visual communication to be in music. Because, the work which an artist creates translate a message which is reflected from the society and through visualization an artist can give a complete message to the society. Besides this, visual is also a form of platform for the artist to promote his work and himself/herself. Since the audiences will assess their desires on the artist.

Q5. What makes you different and unique from the rest? Give us a sign?

B Maisnam: I have a belief and a principle that I would give my whole effort into the works I am passionate about. The works I do is where I find serenity and completeness, my utter concentration and whole heartily putting my best to deliver my work piece to my admirers is what I do. As I have a saying “MY PRODUCTION-MY RULE, MY LAB-MY OWN CREATION” which I work hard to deliver and I would say that the uniqueness is in the appreciation from my admirers.

Q6. Your super special thing in music and instruments you can play?

B Maisnam: As a music lover and an Alternative HIP-HOP artist my special thing about music is how I relate my life with music and communicate it out to the society. The instrument that I can play is Keyboard but I mostly work on electronic software instrument to compose my music.

Q7. What is your preference view on digital music artist to physically manual musicians?

B Maisnam: As a candle light need both of its wax and thread to work together to illuminate. A digital music artist and a physical manual musician cannot be separated from one another in order to give the world a masterpiece. But since my genre is more applicable to digital form of music, I mostly work as a digital music artist.

Q8. Share us your experiences on being worked with other artists?

B Maisnam: I have been working with a lot of artist but picking a few to mention is JUNE NEELU in NANGDI LAKLAROI and KOROU. Besides being an artist at work she also has supported me like a sister, friend and family. She is a down to earth kind of a person who loves making music and devotes herself into her music. Young artist DAVID SOIBAM in YENGLAMKHO is also one of my close companion, friend, brother and family. He is multi-talented young artist and a composer, rapper and cinematographer under my production. Lastly but not the least, Da DENISH SHARMA is an icon in Manipur music limelight. Getting an opportunity to work with such a great and talented artist was a good experience. The song NUNGSHI SAKTAM was an experimental fusion classical and Alternative HIP-HOP which was a success and experimental triumph in these ever changing trends of globalisation.

Q9. Some simple but useful techniques you use while filming?

B Maisnam: As a cinematographer I use some general technique such as good framing and pan techniques few to mention. I visualise through the lens the end result which will come after the post production.

Q10. As a video maker share us what you wanted to explore here in Manipur? And the limitations you see?

B Maisnam: Manipur has many hidden surprises and I, through my work have come to experience many possibilities. Exploring scenic beauties never been touched through the lens of a camera and work with young artistes who are eager for professional platform and upbringing. Other traditional and cultural aspect of exploration would be the classical fusion with Da DINESH SHARMA. I am also planning to work on an ethnic folk fusion to show that music has no boundaries.

Limitation wise, I would point out that it would be a great gain for the state to have a film city. Since the industry here in Manipur is rising at a great pace, its development needs to be established for it to continue flourishing. Here the production follows quantity over quality but I would like to value both at the same level.

Q11. Is it promotion or professionalism you do from video making to music production?

B Maisnam: It is a bit of both in my profession. As working on my production with young artists I am promoting them as well as I to let the world know of our young talents and its thriving industry on the rise which will help create more jobs for unemployed youths and follow a certain profession of professionalism. Professionalism is also what I do because I am promoting a certain work culture where one should dedicate his/her whole belief into the work. This in turn will set a trend of promotion and professionalism among the rising youth.

Q12. How do you enjoy your moments in works?

B Maisnam: Since I love doing my work and the efforts I put into making it, leaves me exhausted and that is where I find my consolidation. My work is where I also bond with my crew who have been besides me through all this time of hardship and challenges.

B Maisnam: Both.

REDOLENT

Redolent the Band from Tamenglong District, Manipur was formed in mid-summer of 2003. Their 1st album "Shine Your Light" was released in 2003. The 2nd album "Infinite Horizon" was released in 2007.

Q 1. What were you all before Redolent?

Redolent: Prior to Redolent, we were into our respective educational careers. For instance, Aaron (Manager) and Jonah (Guitarist) had just completed their Graduation from Manipur and Nagaland, respectively. Stephen (Bassist) was in a Delhi-based band called Nakshatra while pursuing his Computer Course (Multimedia). Bordin (Executive Producer) had just got employed in the District Rural Development Agency.

Q2. How do you record your songs, like the recording Equipments, Studios, etc.?

Redolent: The first album, Shine Your Light, was recorded at Alfred’s studio (Music Tracks) in Imphal. The second album, Infinite Horizon, was also recorded at Alfred’s studio (Clef Ensemble) in Kohima. The yet-unnamed third album is presently being recorded at Zuffy’s studio in Tamenglong.

Q3. Give us a brief about some of the best gigs the band ever played?

Redolent: Most memorable performances so far are –

* Concerts in Nagaland on April 12th-13th, 2006 & March 30th-31st, 2010; and

* Concerts at Imphal (Manipur) on the 11th November 2006, the 11th October 2008, the 30th

September 2009, the 13th February 2010 & the 10th May 2014.

* “Naga Fest 2012” @ Talkatora Indoor Stadium, New Delhi on the 19th September 2012.

* “Charuang 2012” @ Surtaal Open-Air Theatre, New Delhi on the 21st September 2012.

* “Frontline Stronghold” @ Recreation Centre, Imphal on the 26th March 2013.

* “Independence Rock” @ Ukhrul on the 14th-15th August 2013.

* “Reverberating In Paul – Version 1” (RIP-v.1) @ B.O.A.T., Imphal on the 10th May 2014.

Q4. A big crowd is what a band wants to play in front of but we do also face various hurdles from fans and the organizers. What are the difficulties the band usually encounters while playing in such gigs?

Redolent: We ’ve had some experience organizing our own gigs sans any sponsors. Inadequate sound systems for an open live concert are common occurrences. You can’t expect 100% from the band when it has to shoulder the responsibility of arranging the sound systems and pushing ticket sales. But in the end, there’s a sigh of relieve in giving our best effort all for the fans.

Q5. We don't see a lot of you very frequently in gigs. How do you pick gigs?

Redolent: Right! We are seen frequently in gigs because we pick gigs that fit our schedule – time & date. The band members are also involved in our respective regular professions. For instance, Jonah and Samuel are into teaching professions while Stephen, Ching and Xieeyaan are involved in other lines of work. Moreover, except for Xieeyaan, all the other members have family obligations being married with wives and children to look after.

Q6. How is the musical trend in Tamenglong?

Redolent: People in Tamenglong have varied tastes in music ranging from Hip-hop to Pop, Country to Rock & Roll, Rock to Metal, Dance to Reggae, et al.

Q7. How do you inspire or land a hand to your juniors who come for guidance in music?

Redolent: Usually, we let our juniors go through the basics: tonic sol-fa & staff notations. These are taught by our senior professionals through workshops, seminars, classes, camps, etc. Then, we guide them by making them apply these basic skills in the contemporary perspective.

Q8. Honestly Redolent seems more of an online or web oriented name rather than a frequent neighborhood kids here in Manipur. Have a say on this?

Redolent: Hey! Redolent has a group or a page or two in facebook, an account in reverbnation, etc. But despite these we aren’t too frequent online because of the disparingly poor net accessibility in Tamenglong. In fact, our fans expect so much more from us that they keep us alive through the internet: uploading our videos, songs, photos, etc.

Q9. How is the Redolent going to be in the futures to come?

Redolent: Redolent shall continue to do what it has been doing – making music and entertaining the world and at the same time delivering messages of peace and hope to the world. We hope to inspire more young people to channel their talents for the same instead of wasting it on other worldly pleasures.

Q10. What do you think the purpose of Redolent is to the society?

Redolent: Redolent is a band of the present generation for the betterment of the future generations to come. We are here to build a better society through songs that contain deep messages of hope.

Q11. What do you do to come up with a new lyrics and tune?

Redolent: Most of the songs we make are spontaneous. Sometimes the structure is made before the lyrics and at other times it is the other way round. Once the two are put together, we refine the songs by blending these with the finer elements.

Q12. Some of the best things you wanted from the band?

Redolent: Time and unwavering dedication is what we want from the band. Unless we find these, we shall always be missing gigs. We don’t want the talents of the band to be wasted and would like to keep on making music as long as we don’t face any physical or health related problems.

Q.13. Favorite National Highway in Manipur?

Redolent: None (as of now)! Hope these NHs improve as much as to serve its purpose without any hindrances! Wishing for the best!

Club Muzik: Q1. Is music your only career? Why do you take it up?

AKHU - As of now I am doing only music. By profession I was a Physicist. I am taking a break from it at the moment.

Club Muzik: Q2. How do you want to be in a different version of yourself?

AKHU - I can’t imagine myself doing anything else or thinking of another version of me which i am not really is a waste of time.

Club Muzik: Q3. Any plans to work or be part of the Manipuri movie industry? Tell us what you would look for if you are looking forward to any of such?

AKHU - No thoughts so far. Time will tell.

Club Muzik: Q4. The fans are the one that keeps an artist happy most. How do you want to portray yourself to your fans keeping aside social meanings?

AKHU - Fans are fans as long as you do good work they will like you.

Club Muzik: Q5. Share us the social meaning of your works in music?

AKHU - my works come up from a very personal experience and how i see the things around me. It might be political or apolitical. But isn't any form of art about what we around and how we feel about lives we live?

Club Muzik: Q6. Is it true that people cheer more of your lyrics rather than the music in your songs?

AKHU - Yes! thats true. I am more of a poet than a singer.

Club Muzik: Q7. Some studio tips you would like to share to get the best sound results?

AKHU - Get yourself a nice system and record your own music and get it mastered with a good engineer. These are the days of Do It yourself. I am still struggling with my own recording.

Club Muzik: Q8. What is the difference between Imphal Talkies and Akhu Chingangbam?

AKHU - Akhu Chingangbam is more of a performer, that’s how it started way back in Delhi in 2007 and 2008. When I recorded my songs with my bandmates then we are Imphal talkies. There is certain freedom in doing solo shows which i really enjoy. But for last two years since I am based in Imphal we have been doing as the band.

Club Muzik: Q9. Why do you choose guitar in particular apart from other global or traditional instruments?

AKHU - I use Pena in lot of my recordings. Though what you can do with a guitar is actually unlimited. It can mimic any sound. But I am just a simple guitar chord strummer.

Club Muzik: Q10. What are the things an artist should look forward to have a great fan following?

AKHU - I think one needs to be honest about what he writes and sings.

Club Muzik: Q11. Share us some of the meanings and perception you came across in organizing and be a part of "Where have all the flowers gone" event?

AKHU - Late Pete Seeger is a protest folk singer i have been admiring since i got to listen to him. With frens we thought we should organise a gig remembering him and his legacy. He was also an environmental activist. He loved nature. And it is high time we too care about our environment. Look at Naga River, Nambul River, they are filled with plastic bottles and garbage. And the government is trying to cover it up with their silly cemented stone slabs. The dirt is going nowhere unless we care to clean. In the event around 400 students came up for the environment related painting competition. We cleaned the entire venue which is a beautiful hillock. It was filled with syringes, broken bottles, plastics, etc. We had Susmit Bose to headline the event who was a fren of Pete Seeger. It was a hard task for the organisers but enjoyed. And it is happening again next year with more artists outside from the state.

Club Muzik: Q12. Tell us about the Akhu that most people don't know?

AKHU - I am coming up with a haiku book with a dear friend and brother named Kapil Arambam. He is also the one who designs my logos and any designs which has to do with Imphal Talkies. I am excited about it.

Club Muzik: Q13. Any crush on a girl/lady yet....or already set?

The Dirty Strikes is a Post-Punk,Indie Rock Band from Manipur.

Club Muzik: Q1. How do you relate the word meaning of The Dirty Strikes to the band?

TDS - Quite a question everytime we give our answer to interview, this is the very fast question we have to face all the time Why the name The Dirty Strikes Well as we came from all different background we share a common thing at the end and thats the music. Being a youth of Imphal we wanna do something different from others which no one had experienced. Here we want people to hear something new so back in 2010 Jan we come out in this name The Dirty Strikes an Indie, post-punk band and not to forget we love and respect dirty people they are very original.

Club Muzik: Q2. Where do the band usually hang out? Tell us some of the best places you usually hang out here in Manipur with band mates?

TDS - Most of the time we hang out at Chumthang Studio, Nagamapal where we usually jam and apart from this we hang out in this awesome place called A2Z, Kwakeithel what a place people are really energetic there, good vibes , tasty food, delicious tea and yes the ower Tamo Donald he is such a music lover and we connect easily . Do visit sometime if you haven’t touch your feet there. All smile!!!

Club Muzik: Q3. What were the responses from fans to your debut music video, Good Damaged Girl?

TDS - When we started performing as a band the music scene that time was kind of down but we never stop we believed in ourself and our music, we hold our ground and as a reason of that we made this video Good Damaged Girl we don’t wana take the credit alone we like this thanks our fans, family, manager and everyone and yes it was quite a success oh and thanks to you (Club Muzik) for hosting the released show at Classic hotel.

Club Muzik: Q4. To get the perfect taste of the musical sound we need to the right musical equipment’s. Tell us about the best things you would wanted to give the perfect touches to your type of music or share us if you already have what you need the best?

TDS - It depend on modern sound equipment’s. Every now and then new equipment’s are emerging. The dexterity of the sound engineer is also a factor to determine the perfectness of the performance. In case of
Studio recording also novelty of the studio equipment’s are also a factor.

Club Muzik: Q5. A part of the band but not seen on frontlines, share us about behind the scene functioning and operations of the band?

TDS - Well this day we are staying low as our drummer is at Delhi so we are just preparing ourself for some big fest this year outside Manipur. But we feel good to see some new Indie's band from Imphal now we can say we are not alone.

Club Muzik: Q6. From the band's point of view what is indie music and how is the indie fans in the country as you experience at various gigs you participated in the country?

TDS - Indie as we all know stand for Independent it’s started at 80's and came to limelight in the 90's. Well many musician have its own expression of Indie and when it comes to us we would like to say Indie music is very raw and honest music and it quite an experimental and lyrically it gives us something which can’t be express anyway try listening some www.Reverbnation.com/thedirtystrikes. Thanks you Since the day we first hit the stage we are getting positive vibes yeah negative vibes too truth to be told and yes performing outside our state has a different taste recently we played at Bombay now (Mumbai) for Vans fresh off the wall you won't believe us folks what a crowd dancing, singing our songs, trying to get fotos with us and lotsa interview we were welcome like anything like this only wherever we played we smile we connect we get new fans. And lastly once we played for a Radio in Chennai F.M radio damn when the RJ keeping saying these boys from Manipur is awesome we were all like you know damn.

Club Muzik: Q7. What are the fames you enjoy being in a band from the rest of your friends who don't in schools and institutions you all attended?

TDS - Fames sounds cool really cool for your kind information we are still the regular kids hanging with our folks talking, laughing and so on and on but its our fans who thought we are famous we are but as you know we are very down to earth and got lots of sense of humour people thought we got lotsa ego's and false pride and the truth is we dint/don’t got anyway know us and you will know people. Tell you an episode when we were watching Hoobastank at Shillong some folks ( Manipuri's ) came to us and was bowing to us saying respect and we were ordinary people we hug each other and thanks them for supporting us through up's and down's .

Club Muzik: Q8. The band had played and attended some of the best music events in the country. How do you prepare and set yourselves for these gigs?

TDS - Each and every gigs big or small got thier own taste as we know thanks to Chumthang Studio for their times with us the most important thing for every gigs is how we fix out setlist and how we delivered that to the particular crowd till now we are doing our best D.A.M fest at Pondicherry was really tuff playing in front of NIFT, Chennai student but at the end of the gigs we all enjoy and got to meet so many beautiful fans and people.

Club Muzik: Q9. What do each one of you wanted to be in your professional life or what do you do apart from music?
TDS - Well if we aren't wrong we are doing professional work so far thought we dint get enough still we can buy bread for ourselves butter is on the way. (Laugh). Everyone is studying now Kendy doing LLB 4sem, Naoba, Bom and Tom studying BA in different stream and yes Uma is in Delhi doing videography once he is done we are thinking of making a home video let’s see how far we can kick the ball.

Club Muzik: Q10. How independent is the band in terms of composing, looks, getting gigs, decision making, management and the likes?

TDS - Composing songs isn’t easy tell you something we fight for the better of our band and its quite effective lyrically we used to keep as simple as possible so that everyone can enjoy and dance it’s kind of friendly music . The most important part is the look and outfits yeah we look skinny jeans, chucks shoes, leather jacket, messy hair these is how we represent The Dirty Strikes and everyone love our simple style and who we are. Getting gigs wasn’t that much tuff to us thanks to our Manager Nirjeet Chakpram (7streetwalkers) Rishu Singh (Mumbai) Ennui.bomb and Bode (Chumthang) meantime sometimes we played from our friend's circle or relatives too so far enjoying. Decision making is the worse part we face so many different opinion so many issues but we come with the right and good decision all the time

Club Muzik: Q11. Apart from The Dirty Strikes what all are you good at musically?

TDS - Yeah everyone is musically sounds in their owe way and style. Everyone in our band can play Guitar, drums and some other instrument except our Vox he only play guitar and Tamborine.

TDS - Playing in a band sharing the same ideas is the biggest achievement apart from this yeah releasing an EP (first band to release an EP in Manipur) and for a band from Imphal featuring in RSJ and Rollingstone is one of those achievement. And the most amazing thing is giving an autograph in our photo in Ziro, Arunachal Pradesh was dream comes truth. Like to shorten here.

Club Muzik: The making of Recycle?

ReCycle: ReCycle came into existence in November 2006 with a common urge to bring the musical landscapes of 90’s grunge, Alternative and funk flavor to the Imphal music scene.

Club Muzik: What do you want to see in a fan, say Recycle fan?

ReCycle: We would love to see in our fan who could connect to the band musically, love for who we are & stay loyal to the journeys ahead.

Club Muzik: Your music is a contrary to the current aggressive nature of metal bands in the country. But rightfully we feel that Recycle has made a place of it’s own apart from the various trending bands. Share us how a band can achieve such an honor?

ReCycle: ReCycle is an alternative rock band with a touch of funk element to our sound. We do have a core belief in our band. We stay true to our music with dedication, devotion and action which help us in the long run.

Club Muzik: Every musician has the slightest difference or perfect uniqueness in it's music no matter how similar they sound like. What is it in Recycle the rest don't create?

ReCycle: Every band has its own style of music, taste & approach. We do have our kind of music which we can call our own but we can’t comment or compare with the rest and the interpretation is left to the listeners.

Club Muzik: How do you differentiate a rock artist like yourself from a Hindustani artist in the local scene?

ReCycle: Hindustani artist are like they are into mainstream culture where as we are part of the sub-culture which is not too mainstream.

Club Muzik: Apart from Recycle what all are your favorites in music?

ReCycle: We are all inspired by The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, RHCP, Incubus, Coldplay just to name a few & we do love the local acts like The Imphal Talkies, The Dirty Strikes, The Koi.

Club Muzik: In a music making industry the production quality matters a lot to come up with a good and well-crafted sound. Tell us what you would suggest to other musicians in Manipur to come up with quality production?

ReCycle: We would love to suggest a good recording studio along with a sound engineer who can communicate, co-operate and work with the kind of approach your band would like to have and expect him to help technically in the recording process in order to get the right source to maintain quality production. The recording process is what matter and should be the prime focus in order to get the right kind of sound so the source from the guitar amps, microphone positioning & stuffs needs to be check. So, once the recording process is done with proper care you can do the mixing & mastering anywhere depending upon your budget.

Club Muzik: How do you write your music and lyrics?

ReCycle: All our music and lyrics comes spontaneously. Sometimes a bass line would come up or a guitar phrase while we are jamming or during rehearsal before a gig and the idea turns into a song. It all comes naturally but it’s not actually plan and sometimes the lyric comes all of a sudden so we just write it down.

Club Muzik: How do you maintain your music instruments to keep it in good shape at home or for a live show?

ReCycle: Just keep in hard case in case we are going for live show. We do have sentimental value to our instruments so we just take good care and maintain to keep in good way.

Club Muzik: What are your expectations while playing at a live gig?

ReCycle: We do expect good quality production like sound, lights and stage from the organizer. We always try to connect new fans while playing at a live gig and we are grateful that most of the gigs we played are paid so far.

Club Muzik: Share us the people behind each members of Recycle who made you all into music, like who all supported or trained you in the beginning?

ReCycle: All of us are self-taught and we didn’t had formal training from early on. We are inspired from our elders from early age to get into music and we thank our elders, families and friends for all their continued support and guidance.

Club Muzik: To you what is perfect timing for a band?

ReCycle: We do exist like a family and we are all aware of the highs and the lows of the band so far. We always enjoy the moment of the journey through this band and the perfect timing would be like when we all function like a collective soul or together as one unit.

CHEISRAH

Cheisrah is a metalcore band since May, 2011 and is based in Bengaluru, India. Amarjeet Karam, the man behind the drums is from Manipur, Amit on guitar is from Shillong, Thejus on guitar is from Bahrain, Imon on vocal is from Shillong and Amir on bass is from Lucknow. "Cheisrah, the name of the band is derived from the Meitei (Manipuri) Folktale, Sandrembee & Cheisrah.

CLUB MUZIK: How did Cheisrah began?

CHEISRAH: Cheisrah was formed in the early months of 2011. It was a matter of finding like-minded musicians who had same taste in music and wanted to make music. We were not friends but came to know through mutual friends and that’s how we connected, later met up, became good friends and then formed the band in Bangalore.

CLUB MUZIK: You had an EP entitled Deafbreed, tell us about its tracks?

CHEISRAH: It’s a 10-track full length album. “Deafbreed” is definitely a very versatile record for us and we are very proud of it. Songs like Unscarred, We Hate Metronome, Bury the Bastards, No more Tolerance are fast paced groovy and attacking songs. While songs like Home, Ruins of a Grey Nation, Skinned are bit melodic and variate a lot. There is plenty of variations and textures that can create a different feeling and mood with every song individually but the common factor stays simple and straight.

CLUB MUZIK: How do you mark the inner meaning of the word Cheisrah?

CHEISRAH: Cheisrah, as you would know is the name of an evil character from a Meitei (Manipuri) Folktale, “Sandrembee and Cheisrah”. Actually we decided not to have an English name and this was just so cool and so we went ahead with this name (tongue twister for many apparently). There is no such inner meaning for us, as for the name speaking frankly.

CLUB MUZIK: In what ways does each member contribute to the band's activities like composing, production, managing, media, etc.?

CHEISRAH: Song composition is mainly initiated by Amit. Then Thejus comes into play and forms the skeleton of a song. Imon scrutinizes the song extensively then we all refine it. On the production side, Thejus is the main guy as he is a qualified Sound/Live Engineer now, so he knows this shit and we leave it to him. Band management and booking is mainly looked after by Amarjeet.

CLUB MUZIK: We all come across high and low. What are the biggest things Cheisrah did faced to come to this point of your music and success?

CHEISRAH: Well the biggest challenge of course is the money involved in running a band. We are an expensive band and we have a lot of things associated. We all do have full time jobs which helps us in paying our bills and sustaining the band but its tough since you have to sacrifice a lot of things. To run the band is the biggest challenge and also you know that there is no returns in Metal. Still, we go on for the love.

CLUB MUZIK: How do you plan your set list in a gig?

CHEISRAH: We play a mix of all out old and new songs. Depends on the place where we are playing and the time slot allotted. But generally its a mix of both old and new.

CLUB MUZIK: How cool is a rock band to you?

CHEISRAH: A rock band is cool for sure. Especially the Rock bands from the 70s and 80s era, because they got groupies haha!

CLUB MUZIK: How heavy or brutal the band sounds it is the melody the band sees in their music. Tell us about the melodies in your songs?

CHEISRAH: Yes, we feel the melody in our song blends perfectly with the heaviness coming from mostly the rhythm parts and the drums. So its melodic at the same time heavy, that's all we can say.

CLUB MUZIK: Apart from Cheisrah what do you all do of now?

CHEISRAH: As said before we all have full time jobs. Amarjeet, Imon and Amit are into corporate jobs (SUCKS). Thejus is a studio and live sound engineer. Amarjeet is also a part of Horns Up Entertainment - Which organizes Metal gigs and does artist management for other events as well.

CLUB MUZIK: Some of your inspirations as a band and music?

CHEISRAH: Musically our influences go past an ocean. Every member in the band grew up listening to various artists ranging from blues, rock, alternative , hardcore , heavy metal, etc. but some form of music has been a constant. When it comes to song-writing for Cheisrah, we feel that every member is uniquely talented and when it all comes together it creates the whole band.

CLUB MUZIK: It's friendship with a sense of brotherhood a band mate is. Tell us a brief about how Cheisrah goes on this?

CHEISRAH: To begin with we all are great friends. Since we come from different places, we are like family here in Bangalore. We were good friends first, and then we formed the band.

CLUB MUZIK: How would you like to inspire the budding rock musicians?

CHEISRAH: Work hard. Its very tough but keep working hard, because this is what you love to do!

CLUB MUZIK: How would you earn 100 busk in a day if you are asked to do so?

CHEISRAH: We have no frigging idea on this. Don't know, we might beg: P

NOKIA'S YAOSHANG ROCK SHOW 2012 (Review)

As a sequence to its first edition held at D.M College's NCC Ground in 2011 the Nokia Manipur came back with the Yaoshang Rock Show on 22nd April, 2012 at Y.A.C Range Ground, Imphal. Keeping up with the promises and charismatic ideas to make it an extravagance the event was the biggest rock event in Manipur till date.

June Neelu (5:00 pm), who was making her big debut in Imphal opened the show. She was a promising female solo artist from Imphal, based in Bangaluru. Featured in the then recently released Manipuri music video "Laklaroi" by B. Meisnam and selfie videos on Youtube she came to limelight and became the overnight heartthrob of the Manipuri music trend. Gifted with a clean detectable voice and backed by well balanced musicians June along with the band came down to battle out the expectations of the crowd. A very familiar tune from her was Rolling in the Deep by Andale which most of the crowd cheered.

Fringes, the classic sediments of the legendary rock and blues offered the day with its enchanted artistic form of music after June. They embarked the day with melodies from covers to originals. Born in an era of only few classic bands in the country the Fringes as seen were serious to dig down the path to fame someday. It was simply music and rest were the fans waiting for excitements to happen though a little stranded by their new faces.

The venue was half full as June Neelu came out for her second session after Fringes. With an extra flavor of the stage lights beginning to light up she was one good looking pretty face in Imphal that day. They put up a calm but cool outstanding kind of musical transaction to the fans chilling out at the taste of the grand venue set up by the Manipur Nokia Team. It was indeed a very special day for her.

Angellica was the next. With an instrumental touch in all of its song they came up with a smoothly heavy presentation. The band was a glitter of new lights with a touch of classical instinct. It was a rare moment to see a bass guitarist took up the mike for a number. His name was Mocha Gurumayum. Heartfelt feeling is that he passed away a few days back due to a prolonged illness. Sorry that this review came out so late to him. Just as they were to wind up the band announced an album in the making which will be released within that year (2012) was a memory to recall. Rests in peace Mocha, your memories are with us in our hearts.

Silence for awhile and the whole venue roar up in sudden as they got the glimpse of the hottest band of the evening, the Apples. This all girl band from Aizawl is on their first ever gig in Imphal. They glittered the evening with a pile of covers which includes Californication by RHCP, I Love Rock and Roll by AC/DC, etc. to mention a few. These three apples simply thrilled the fans with their girly but highly energizing showman attitude. Serious behind the mike with a rock n roll guitar sounds, smashing drumming acts and a never deflecting bass back up was what the Apples were that evening. It didn’t seem so hard for the ladies to still the show. They wind up with All Night Long.

As the girls exit the roar took to a new height for it was the Shades of Retribution, the lone metal band of the evening. Also they are the only band of that evening whose songs are not marked with English lyrics alone but Assamese, indeed the true tongue. We couldn’t quite understand the words but the man on the mike give a brief of all the songs they did before each song. Venomous Society, Mandatory Suicide, Satru the Enemy (from their second album), Inner Sin, etc. were some of the title meanings of their originals as translated. Shredding guitar sounds, flipping of the guitar tremolo by the lead guitarist and fading down of melodies in between the songs made them the heaviest of all the bands that evening. These dark whiskers from Assam floored the party to a loud, heavy and symbolic high. It was during their slot we came to realize that the front barricade was weak and won't last long.

The final act of the day was the all time favorite and the greatest band of the country, the unbreakable and the reliable Parikrama. The band had played a number of times earlier in the city. They began with Am I Dreaming. It was But It Rained that brought the band closer to the fan with the later joining the song in chorus. Nitin Malik’s ambient to high pitching vocal made the dense smoke filled stage into a deep lightning cloud. Out of nowhere it was hard to find fresh air due to the dust erupted from the pushing and tossing of the crowds. The older it gets the better they sound is what Parikrama was.

Sonam Sherpa, the guitarist of the band had a lighted cigarette in his machine head during one of the number. Watching him use the slide on his guitar frets reminds of the old school rock and roll era. Flashing stage lights and dense fog from the smoke machine caught the air around Y.A.C Range Ground on fire. The cops were well alerted and the horns bow in respect for the legends. It was such a lovely sight to see Nitin Malik rub the shoulder of Sonam Sherpa from a wild insect that flew by during the middle of Tears of the Wizard. And on the other side Saurabh Chaudhry (2nd guitarist) was adjusting his guitar tune in between the play on, an act of long standing experience. Rhythm of Blue, In the Middle, Am I Evil, etc. were some of the set list to name a few more that day. They wind up with Highway to Hell.

PARIKRAMA

It was a great moment to witness the greatest band of the country. With an unrelenting performance it was one of their best gigs in Imphal. It was always a heartthrob experience whenever I watch this band (Parikrama) was what I recall a fan gossip among a retrieving crowd. They made the evening short. Along with the thrilling waves from Subir Malik’s keyboard the fine guitar tone, easy drumming moves, warm bass patterns, energizing violin solos and the amazing vocal pitches rippled the crowd to one of the most memorable gig here in Imphal.

But never to forget was the extra set of effort and the well crafted quality event hosting works by Manipur Nokia Team. Fascinated and truly impressed the Nokia’s Yaoshang Rock Show 2012 is the best gig ever witnessed in Manipur. Thanks to the security crew the front barricade did last till the end.

PARIKRAMA

We rubbed the dust out from our vehicles parked outside the Y.A.C Range Ground and headed home safely. I would like to thank the Nokia Manipur for organizing such a great show. And most importantly the fans who showed up to make it a huge success.

June Neelu is an independent singing artist from Manipur, based in Bengaluru. Her songs comprises of both English and Manipuri.

Club Muzik: It would be great if Manipur had many sensational female singers. Alot many people including Club Muzik believe that you are sensational. Have a say on this?

June Neelu: Well, Thank you so much. I think Manipur has many sensational female singers. We have singers like Laishram Mema, Roshibina, Pushparani and many others. As far as I am concerned, I am not a professionally trained singer. I just sing for the love of music, it’s my passion. People started to appreciate me on my YouTube channel and that really kept me going. If people think that I am sensational, then that’s the best compliment I can ever get. I always try to deliver good and meaningful music.

Club Muzik: How do the name June Neelu?

June Neelu: You will be surprised by the numbers of pet names which I got and Neelu is one of them! Many people call me by different names. There were group of friends, back when I was doing my MBA, who called me by the name, June. And one day, when I signed up for Facebook, I simply signed up as June Neelu and that’s how I got the name!!

Club Muzik: What is your musical background?

June Neelu: As I said earlier, I don’t have a professional background. I was singing since I knew myself. I think that’s because of my family. Everyone loves music in my family, my two brothers used to strum guitars when they grew up as well. So I think music just got hooked on to me just like that! Then later on, I used to sing with friends when we get together and somehow I thought of uploading those jam sessions on YouTube. And from that point onwards, there was no looking back!

Club Muzik: Who all do you associate with in your process from composing to all the production and releasing of your music?
June Neelu: I am an artist who believes in collaboration. I think in today’s global networked age, collaboration is going to be the biggest thing in music and it is happening now as well. I collaborate with lots of other talented artist/friends to create a good music. I consider myself to be extremely lucky to have worked with Jeet, B Maisnam, Big Deal for my music. And there are group of young, extremely talented independent filmmakers in Bangalore who also help me in my videos.

Club Muzik: How do you describe your music?

June Neelu: I would say I don’t have any particular genre. For me, I believe in making music that appeals to everyone. As long as I strike a chord with the audience, I would love to sing. My music is mostly inspirational.

Club Muzik: Tell us about the best options a girl like you would choose, to become a music professional?

June Neelu: I think gender has nothing to do in choosing music as a profession. But being a girl, it’s little hard to be in the industry esp in Manipur. We have limitation on the gigs as there is always the issue of security in Manipur. Having said this, I think we should try to overcome the issue with positive vibe and spread the message of the music through different available channels like YouTube and Vimeo!

Club Muzik: What do you like about music and being an artist?

June Neelu: Music is the closest thing that comes in expressing the inexpressible. Music doesn’t have barriers, it’s a universal language. People connect with music and above all, I think music can liberate people from miseries, hatred and distress. As an artist I pay huge amount of attention to the content of the song and of course the form as well.

Club Muzik: Music is what musicians eat and spit. Give us some clue to how you maintained yourself to perfect your musical talents?

June Neelu: Well, the trick is to believe in your music. I don’t believe in ‘inborn’ talents, I think talents are nurtured over the time and through hard work. To get my music engine running, I listen to lots of music across different spectrum. That gives me inspiration to sing. And also, more importantly, I keep on singing whenever I can. I never get tired of it!

Club Muzik: People say that family is what we are made of. Can you please tell us about your family's interest in music or your music?

June Neelu: My family loves music. I can say that I am born in a family of rhythms. My grandfather was a dance scholar. My parents love classic songs and my brothers sing and play guitar. But there are times when my parents think that I should concentrate more on my career than my music. I think my parents have not seen much of my videos!! They know that I do music videos but they would try to underplay it and make me think more of my career!

Club Muzik: What image do you think your music and the videos conveys?

June Neelu: My music and videos speak one language: Simplicity. I think simplicity is the most important part of our lives. Through simplicity, we can connect to different people and my music tries to do that. If I can connect to people with my music then I think I am able to do something.

Club Muzik: Song writing, who does it for you?

June Neelu: As I mentioned earlier, I collaborate with different artist. Most of the songs which I have released so far are written by me and the collaborating artist. I also do write my songs, which will be out as a music album in due course of time.

Club Muzik: How many gig have you done in Manipur, share your experience at the Nokia's Yaoshang Rock Show held at Y.A.C Range Ground?

June Neelu: So far, I have done only one gig in Manipur and that’s the Yaoshang Rock Show. It was such an amazing experience. Sharing stage with Parikrama was a moment that I will cherish for long. It was such a learning curve for me to perform with experienced and talented musicians. And above all, I was really happy with the crowd’s energy and response.

Club Muzik: To you: The best age to get married? (Mention the number only)

GRIEF CARD

Grief Card is a three piece alternative rock band based in Bangaluru. Pramesh and Ravi are from Manipur whereas Jeet is from Assam.

Q 01. Tell us the journey of "Because of You" to the OST of Amamba Sayon: Resurrection?

Pramesh: The song is the product of an idea that I made about two years ago. We thought the song was a bit too ‘pop-ish’ to make it as a band song then, so kept the idea on hold. Then we got this opportunity, we thought, ‘why not make this idea into a song for this movie’. And that’s how ‘Because of You’ came into being. We were very skeptic about how people would react to the song as it is very different from our previous endeavors. But, people loved it, we are happy the song did well. It’s the most ‘popular’ song of Grief Card till date.

Q 02. One from Assam and two from Manipur, tell us the story of how you all got up for the band?

Pramesh: I and Jeet are college mates and Ravi is my childhood friend. The band is not a new band, per se. Back in 2007, in Dayananda Sagar College, we formed a band called Beautiful Disaster which was later named ‘Screaming Rose’ amid line-up changes and which finally evolved into “Grief Card”, in 2011.

Q 03. Music tells us all. What is that it matters in your lyrics, music, theme, etc. that lets you make that music?

Pramesh: We think what matters is that, our sound remains creative and original. We always try to make our next song different from our old songs whilst keeping the identifiable ‘Grief Card’ sound. About the themes/lyrics, we mostly write about heartbreak, disappointment as the band name suggests.

Q 04. A band stays as long as its members stays. How far do you wish to take the band to?

Pramesh: We have big plans for future; we want to connect to a lot of people, as many as we can through our songs. We are currently writing a lot of new material and we can’t wait to release it to the world.

Q 05. How or where do you get inspirations for your music? Or make your music inspired?

Pramesh: We get inspirations from our everyday life, the bands we listen to, our favorite movies, our favorite books, etc.

Q 06. We all exist supporting, sharing and helping each other. Tell us who all helped you in the beginning as a musician, as a band?

Pramesh: Personally, I’d like to give a big thanks to my cousin, Sanjoy who introduced me the ‘Guitar’, he taught me how to play it. Also, he introduced me to a lot of amazing bands by which I was able to grow my musical taste. I am what I am musically because of him.
As a band, we are very thankful to the Dayananda Sagar college jam room, various bands who trusted us and lent us their gears in our initial years :-) and all the beautiful people who love our song and have encouraged us to do what we do.

Q 07. A clean, pleasant and melodic tunes is what we could see from Can't You See to Because of You. What is the band's stand on the genre?

Pramesh: Well, first of all, Thank you. :-) We are an alternative rock band. That being said, we try not to restrict ourselves to a particular genre. We love experimenting with various other genres; we are influenced by a variety of genres ranging from pop to metal. Right from 60’s artists like The Beatles to contemporaries like Incubus.

Q 08. What do you like best in all your compositions?

Pramesh: The best thing we like in our compositions is that we’ve always manage to keep our identifiable ‘Grief Card sound’ in all our songs.

Q 09. The band is all assembled and created in Bengaluru. Tell us some of the best things you like about the city as a rock musicians?

Pramesh: As musicians, the 1st good thing about Bangalore is that we can play/watch music almost every day. There are always 10-20 gigs happening every day in this city. The 2nd thing will be the musicians network, most of the musicians in this city are very friendly and respectful, we always help each other out keeping the scene alive. And lastly and most importantly, the audience, they have been very receptive to new genres lately. Also, the new young audiences prefer original compositions over covers, which I think is very important for any band or scene to grow.

Q 10. What is the difference between Beautiful Disaster, Screaming Rose and Grief Card? Is Grief Card part of the previous two?

Pramesh: Yes, Grief Card is a part of the previous two. Jeet and I have been the constant in all the three bands. Back in 2007, in Dayananda Sagar College, we formed a band called Beautiful Disaster which was later named ‘Screaming Rose’ amid line-up changes and which finally evolved into “Grief Card”, in 2011.

Q 11. What do you guys do apart from music?

Pramesh: Jeet and I have full-time day jobs and Ravi is pursuing his master’s in tourism.

Q 12. How do you want the story of Grief Card be told by generations to come? :-)

Pramesh: We highly doubt we will be remembered by generations. Haha. Anyhow, if we are by some divine miracle. :-) We’d like to be remembered as the band who stayed true to their music and created awesome songs.

Q 13. Favorite Kannada song?

Pramesh: We don’t really listen to kannada songs. But, if we had to chose, it’d be one of Raghu Dixit’s songs.

VIAGRA HAZE

Viagra Haze is a death metal band based in Bangaluru, India. They are releasing their debut album entitled “Aggression Aspired” on the 4th of January, 2014 as a part of a music fest, Metal Retrievation. This interview is a part of Club Muzik’s ARTISIA.

Question No. 1: Where do you place the band (Viagra Haze) among the various new bands in the country?

Answer: We know that, and it's a very common concept and "general" would be the right word, that there's competition among the various bands. As rightly said, “Who doesn’t want be at the top of the list?” Of course we'd want to be among the top listed bands or at the top of it if not enough for a dream. But we'd like to follow the concept of a musician with diverse style, technique and mode, and that we've teamed up with these diversities in incorporating our thoughts, ideas and beliefs into one structure called "band". It's important to us that we walk down the same path bearing with us this structure in our minds. This way we walk together as a band till the end of the road. We believe in ourselves to be moving parallel to these glories as a band and not legging behind with criticism or complete failure.

It'd be wrong to consider ourselves Hot-Shots, or the fame, we'd love to leave these decisions to our good fans. Every band (in the country) has their own talents, taste of music and genres to prove, experimenting with new stuffs and we are among them.

Question No. 2: Tell us about your EP, Aggression Aspired?

Answer: Our EP is entitled as "AGGRESSION ASPIRED". It contains 5 (five) original tracks.

Track List: 1) The Untouchable, 2) Political Orgasm, 3) Speechless Mosaic From The Womb, 4) Mysterious Emotion, 5) 18th Century: The Rise

As the name suggests this album in it everything is of aggressiveness in perspective, the wanton aggression. Every single event and issues happening in and around us seems kinda part of our lives, but well it’s not, only because of its frequency alone. People need to realize this and come up with an opinion to change for good. A man cannot be the change single-highhandedly, but can be the voice with his or her courage, inspiration or simply, MAN.

If people as a whole raise their fists up with grinding teeth there won't be any necessary evil. This album talks about it and apparently it's the "MAN". It portrays optimism, irony, in contrary to the literal meaning. Every song here talks about these issues, both personal and general:

1) Untouchable: The song is about a person living with HIV virus or the AIDS. Its perspective is that instead of the sympathy that he is dying the most painful death people look at him in disgust and fear which turns into character assassination. So, this song talks about how he feels being in solitude while he needs love and care the most, the anger and the repentance equalized.

2) Political Orgasm - This is about the present system in our society of how it is still ignorant inspite of the years of knowledge or the education on history. It's more like an arrogant, stubborn kid ignorantly enjoying with carefree and taking pleasure on things they want just for granted. This pleasure is compared to an intense woman's orgasm.
3) Speechless Mosaic From The Womb - It is an instrumental piece on our Manipuri Folk Music. It's basically a tribute to our motherland and of reminding her sons and daughters who they are and where they belong.

4) Mysterious Emotion - Looking at the face value of our society a kind of obvious feeling sets in. We feel angry yet at the same time feel glorious for this life and the beauties we are blessed with. But do we really deserve these sense of mixed feelings and emotions? It should be either one of the two, so that we may adapt and deal with the emotions. It's really confusing for the various emotions coming to us simultaneously, this makes us insecure both mentally then physically. Emotion's kind of mystery in itself.

5) 18th Century The Rise - The song sets in on the ideologies of ILLUMINATI. The satanic believes that says everything should be destroyed and everyone should be sent to their graves for they are unworthy of the gift of life. We pray for our misfortunes, difficulties and sorrow but less do we know that we are responsible for our own misfortunes. This is going to take forever for us to realise these, so why not we most be killed and give ourselves a fresh start.

Question No. 3: Tell us about the band as an artist? (Not as a band, musician or say Rockstar).

Answer: We'd like to portray the band as an artist who believes in one's ability to follow ourselves with clean and honest efforts and to not exaggerate the artistic qualities or sell them. We are in favour that holistic qualities are most precious to priceless. The band is a congregation of diverse techniques or ideas. We have incorporated each of our modes to something we all favour. Let our feelings speak through our music and we would love to do the same to others.

Question No. 4: What trend would you like to show in your genre of music?

Answer: We are a metal genred band. It's not only us, there are a lot of metal bands too. We all know what kinda music we love and the number of genres we love in that category of music, but when we come out as a band we tend to follow only one genre regardless of the love of the other genres. It's the same with Viagra Haze. Like mentioned before we have diverse technicalities and modes, but we use and incorporate them into one thing we'd all favour. This way, each individual musician in the band can use his ideas and not waste it at all but bring out and create something new. This is what we'd like the present trend to be after us.

Question No. 5: How would you like VH to be for your fans?

Answer: Well, we'd like to keep things simple. We have always wanted to respond as much as we can to the calls of our fans. It's because of them we exist. Everything we do should be to keep our fans alive every moment. If we are the kings, they are our kingdoms. It's democracy, we stand for a cause and they choose us.

Question No. 6: How did the band got inspired?

Answer: We think it's kind of obvious, music is what we got ourselves inspired. Every member in the band had their own inspirations that led them to take up musical instruments. We started out with 70s music and so on, form Jimi Hendrix - Led Zeppelin - Black Sabbath to Lamb of God, Meshuggah, Metallica etc. Each members had their own needs to take to music and do something with their talents. So, we teamed up in our rightful places to burned up our urges.

Then, there was this scene in the past that every rockers were some kind of a junkie. We were aware of that and wanted to change these images. This, nonetheless, inspired us a lot.

Question No. 7: Any awards or competitions bagged by the band?

Answer: We haven't recieved any yet and haven't been into any competition. But we are preparing really hard for any opportunities. The only award we've got is the band's EP and fans we got since it's release. We believe this is more than any awards or tittles.

Question No. 8: How do you reflect your music to the fans?

Answer: As mentioned before, as long as we don't let the fans down our fans will always be there for our music. We take into our songs the current political situations, sufferings, frustrations, bad governances, etc. into our music and share with the fans through the music we come up, characterised by our emotions at certain levels. If we have touched or inspired anyone in an emotional level, that is "fan" to us.

Question No. 9: What is rock band to you?

Answer: Literally, to us, Rock Bands are by unorthodox nature of emotions: high distorted guitars, unusual vocal performances, including falsetto, light guttural voices, prominent bass and thrashing drums. It's more of a heavy musical expressions of emotions. But in a more abstract way, rock band would mean connection between various emotions.

Question No.10: What have you planned to do with this EP?

Answer: We want to reach out to as many people as we can around the globe with this EP. Let them know who we are. Whatever the critics might reveal we atleast get a chance to be recognized. This is important to us for we've just revealed ourselves and this shell be our first priority with Aggression Aspired.

Question No. 11: Who would love to listen "Aggression Aspired" most? Keeping in mind every age groups, people, professionals, etc. has a different taste for music.

Answer: Well, metal-heads of course would understand and definitely love to listen to this album. The aggressions in the music and the lyrics will be best understood by metalheads. Besides, a person who has a sense of the present evil scenario and relating himself with the lyrics would understand this album and it's music.

Question No. 12: How do you relate Viagra Haze to the lyrics or theme you assembled in Aggression Aspired?

Answer: Viagra literally means sex pills and Haze as sprinkle or to spray. Well, sex is the scientific term, but this sex is meant as "love making" in its beautiful sense of the meaning. This makes Viagra as "love making pills" and altogether Viagra Haze means "sprinkle love all around". But it's lyrics or theme and the music is quite ironic. The idea within relating it to the band is showering or spraying love in its true and honest kind but ironically. It's like the parents beating their kids not because they hate or dislike them but for the love they have to make them grow wisely and take better care of themselves.

Viagra Haze is optimism in a different way. Apart from the love for humanity, sympathy for the sufferings and misfortunes its seeing the evil aspects and perspectives of the realm. We assembled these aggresiveness, the aspects and perspectives into our lyrics so that anyone who reads it may also feel it. And so aggression is aspired.

Question No. 13: Football or Cricket?

Answer: Football.

Club Muzik respects the various protest raised condemning the untoward incident at National Highway No. 37 (Imphal - Jiribam) which lead to the death of a transport driver Babu Singh on 17th April, 2013. As a mark of respect and seriousness towards the social emotions of the state we share our deep sorrow towards the family and friends of the deceased soul. Club Muzik along with Tiddim 34 & Friends, Oinam Sports Association and various associated organizations of Oinam in consideration for the safety of the fans, bands, technical equipment’s and crews postponed the Oinam's Power Jam ll without further notice or date.

Here is an appeal to all the musical community (any form of music) and fans of the state to wear black badge or ribbon to show our unwillingness in a peaceful way.

We request our fans and all concern authorities to contribute their support and co-operation in re-organizing the postponed PJ. Let's march towards future growth and unity through peaceful means.

The Club Muzik will host its second edition of Power Jam on the 20th of April, 2013 at Oinam, Manipur. It is an event for rock bands and artist to showcase and share their musical talents in a common platform. This PJ will witness fifteen rock bands of the state (Manipur) coming together to perform and exchange musical presentations. It is a Launchpad for young, amateur and semi-pro bands and artist who are committed to strive to the next level.

Oinam's PJ is all sponsored by Tiddim 34 & Friends and volunteered by Oinam Sports Association. The event will be equipped with Hills Sound Reinforcement (Senapati, Manipur) new line arrays sound consoles which are the most advanced live concert equipment in the state. Club Muzik Events in association with two social organizations, Iron Gym, Oinam and Indigenous East, Wangkhei Khunou, Imphal East is coming up with an event entitled, COPULA on the 20th and 23rd of January, 2013. It is a multi venued event with an aim to create a medium to help the social non-profitable organizations to rise funds for the organization at the same time bring in the families of various localities to participate and join in the celebration of the transition of years, here being 2012 and 2013. With a perfect tagline "Celebrating the transition" it is a bridge that links the old and the new or the transit of changing from one year to another.

The word COPULA in translation is a multi meaning word used in literature, music and statistical theory. Combining the ideas of link (literature), music (a polyphonic texture) and distribution (statistical theory) into a celebration tone the Copula event took shaped. It is an event celebrating the transition of years through the participation of every class of people with a wider distributed network of venues.

Like it's multiple meaning the Club Muzik's COPULA consist of various events at multiple venues. The event is a medium to help rise funds for the social non-profitable organisations and at the same time bring in the families of various localities to participate and join in the celebration.

Nupigee Thamoi, a Manipuri Sumang Leela will be held at Lai'mang, Oinam Mamang Leikai in Oinam as a part of Copula which will be organized by Iron Gym, Oinam. Tapta, the most enchanted and influencial musical icon of Manipur will perform at Citizens Club Ground, Wangkhei Khunou in Imphal East. Tapta (Jayanta) along with his full band will be supported by Cleave, a rock band from the state. Cleave, a rock band of Manipur is regarded as one of the best bands in the country having made it's mark in the entire north eastern region. The event will be organized by Indigenous East, a voluntary non-profitable organization based in Imphal and works for the betterment of under privileged children.

Club Muzik had planned the COPULA event for the 31st of December, 2012 and 1st of January, 2013 but is set back due to some unavoidable social and political casualties in the state. It is an event for the women, children, students and those who are less fortunate to join in the New Year and New Year's Eve celebration in our localities. The event is an opportunity for these individuals to land a hand and participate in the celebration of the transition of years. Earlier Iron Gym Oinam had organized a three day (30th, 31st Dec. 2012 and 1st Jan. 2013) open movie show at Oinam Mamang Leikai at Chigonglei Makhong Community Hall as a part of same event.

Longjam Tiken Singh, president of Iron Gym Oinam is of the opinion that those individuals who are locked up in their houses with daily household works, unreached and unaware of such can have a chance to participate in the social trends. Naorem Herojit Meitei of Indigenous East stated that social bodies at the local levels will have an integrated plateform to share their ideologies to the masses.

Vespa is the main sponsors along with few co-sponsors. Entry to Iron Gym's Copula is free whereas Indigenous East will charge 100 rupees. Along with it's main Sumang Leela show the Iron Gym Oinam is also organizing a general discussion session with invited guest where the organisation will make some important developmental announcements.

Driven with the idea to promote Rock Music Culture in Manipur the ‘Club Muzik’ will host its first Musical Jam session entitled ‘Power Jam’ on the 17th of Nov. at Manipur Dramatic Union (MDU) Hall, Yaiskul Police Lane, Imphal. The Event which is also planned to be held in various Town and Venues across the entire State so as to cover all the Bands and Artist of Manipur.

Though projected as a monthly one the event is likely to be conducted monthly due to sponsorship restrains and local scenarios. It is completely a self-sponsored for the time being and the organizers believe that with Power Jam the participating Bands and Artist will get a chance to share and experience a whole new level of musical transaction among themselves.

Power Jam is a non-competitive monthly rock music event which is likely be held on every first Sunday of the month. Referred to as a Launchpad for young artist and semi-pro bands around the globe such musical platforms have created a host to a countless number of inspiration to local artist. The jam session is a casual gathering of bands, individual, artist and enthusiast to share and learn new knowledge together alongside all the artist from different musical background or influences. With and aim to support original music the CLUB MUZIK is marching forward with a brand new product, one of its kind in the entire north-east region and currently the only of its kind in the country. A platform for new, amateur and semi pro bands and artist to showcase their talents and share among Musical Artists.

Objective:

In this trend of original and experimental genre it is a fact figure for the musicians to discover and invent new sound and music.
