When choosing a pair of glasses it’s important to select frames that will complement your image and flatter your face. Find out what face shape you’ve got below and buy prescription glasses that will look great.

1. Square face

If you’ve got a square face then it’s wise to opt for glasses that are round or oval. Curved frames will help soften a square jaw line and will work well with a larger forehead. Because your face is as wide as it is long, you should avoid square or rectangular shaped frames as these could accentuate rigid lines.

Always take your time choosing the right frame and opt for something you feel comfortable in.

2. Round face

A round face shape is significantly different from a square face shape as you’ll have neatly rounded cheeks and a wide forehead. Your face will be in proportion, but it’ll probably be rather short in height. If you think you fall into this category then you can wear square or rectangular frames as they’ll give your face more definition. Be bold by selecting a dark-colored frame, but avoid round glasses like the plague.

3. Oval face

Most glasses suit people with an oval face shape, so it’s time to head down to the opticians and buy a decent pair of specs. Because your face is well-balanced you’ll find that most frames look great, but take your time selecting something you feel comfortable in. Check out the latest Gok Wan glasses or take a look at the Karen Millen range.

4. Heart-shaped face

If you’ve got a heart-shaped face, you’ll be happy to know that you can wear both round and square frames so long as they’re slender and don’t swamp your face. Because you have a wide forehead, but a small chin, it’s advisable to avoid designs with extra width at the top. Choosing the right specs will help balance out your face shape and enhance your looks.

5. Oblong face

If you’ve got a long face with high cheek bones and a deep forehead, you’ve an oblong face shape. The great news is that you can go for thick, wide frames that can really spice up your look. Avoid subtle frames and instead opt for bold frames that accentuate the width of your face. Take a look at the fabulous specs by Jasper Conran or check out FCUK Vision.

Choosing glasses should be fun no matter what your face shape, so head along to your optician and select your frames carefully.

As a big fan of shoes, I enjoy staying on top of the trends and watching what shoes make the runway during fashion week. However, trendy shoes aren’t unlike trendy clothes. If you don’t have a huge shopping budget, it’s not always wise to pay a lot of money for pieces you will wear sporadically. I’ve been keeping an eye out for a great pair of thigh high boots for a while. Initially, when they returned to popularity, you could only find them being sold for $100 and up. And even though they come in black, thigh high boots aren’t something I see myself wearing regularly. Those are statement boots and not many people wear statement pieces on a regular basis. Here is a pair of great thigh high boots that are black leather with lots of cool buckles on them. Plus, they’re only $39 from this awesome website that I recently discovered, www.shoes19.com

I suggest you take some time and poke around this site. Since I just discovered it, I haven’t had an opportunity to make a purchase but I will be doing so in the near future and I’ll keep you updated on my experience. In the meantime, I’d love to hear from you. Have you tried www.shoes19.com? If so, what was your experience?

My mom was a consistent lipstick wearer when I was growing up. In fact, that was really the only makeup she wore. She would often put on dark red or burgundy lipstick and go. It looked cool on her but when I tried lipstick myself, I didn’t like it. It felt too thick for me and heavy on my lips. Plus the color was often jarring. Now this could be because my mom is a few shades darker than me and I was often trying her lipstick but it always looked too dark/bright.

Eventually, I stumbled across lip gloss and fell in love. I enjoyed the shine and the flavors. I liked how it made my lips look without all of the extra color. I’ve been wearing lip gloss ever since. Whenever I go shopping for lip gloss, it’s an adventure. I enjoy browsing the different glosses and colors and figuring out which will work best on me. Now, I have friends who feel the same way about lipstick. In fact, one of my good friends can’t wear lip gloss because they often dry her lips out so she wears lipstick instead. I recently realized that the world is made up of two groups; lip gloss wearers and lipstick wearers. Many women choose a side as young girls and stick with it as they grow up. But for those of you who didn’t experiment early on, here are a few pros for both.

Lipstick

1. Deep, pigmented color
2. Often acts as a moisturizer
3. Dark colors can be used as a teeth whitener
4. Great as a pop of color

Lip gloss

1. Great shine
2. Can be worn alone to add polish to a bare face
3. Cool flavors
4. Light color for those intimidated by a lot of color on the face

Now those are just a few positives on the side of both lipstick and lip gloss. You can also combine the two for double benefit. If you have a bright or deep colored lipstick, a shimmery gloss can tame the color and add some shine. This is for you daring ladies who don’t mind really experimenting with your makeup (which I encourage wholeheartedly). And now I want to hear from you. Do you prefer lipstick or lip gloss and why?

While I’m not a personal fan of actual lipstick (I’m such a lip gloss girl), I do appreciate a well done lip. I will sometimes put on colored lip gloss and I often feel like my lips would look more polished if I had a liner. I don’t really own one, but I do plan to add them to my makeup wardrobe this year.

With this in mind, I wanted to find a good video that shows the best way to apply lip liner so you don’t look like a clown. I found this really cool one from Expert Village. I plan on trying this technique myself. The lady in the video explains and shows how to apply the liner in a very easy to understand way to ensure that the liner truly does its job.

Let me know how this works for you and if you have any other liner tips for us newbies.

The lovely folks over at Lipton Publicity sent me some very interesting socks. They are the thin crew socks that you can wear with dressy shoes but they have one extra feature; padded soles. Now they’re not fully padded to the point where your shows won’t fit properly. It’s a very slight padding but noticeable when the socks are on.

Recently, I was filming an event so I decided to wear the socks with my new wedge boots. The boots are casual but since there is about a two and a half/three-inch wedge, they could have ended up not being very comfortable. Plus, I was going to be standing and holding a camera.

I put on the socks and they felt fine. They didn’t feel odd or out-of-place and they fit nicely in my boots, which were brand new. My feet felt great as I got to the event but I knew the real test was in front of me. I filmed two 10 minute segments of the event and only sat down for a few minutes in the beginning and my feet felt alright as I left the event about four hours later. The shoes were fairly comfortable but the socks gave an added protection that I wasn’t expecting.

I would definitely recommend adding these to your sock collection. They’re less than $12 at the kushyfoot website.

I do not support painful feet so I am always open to anything that can help keep my feet pain-free. These will help with that. Let me know your experiences with the Kushyfoot Microfiber Crew. Post a comment or send an email. I look forward to hearing from you.

When I was younger, I never used to wear hats in the winter. I preferred putting on a pair of ear muffs and scarf when I went out into the cold-along with my coat, of course. But I now realize that covering my entire head is very important (thanks mom!). The lovely folks over at Lipton Publicity sent me this cute Scala Pronto Wool Cloche to review and I want to share it with you.

Most of my hats are of the skull hat variety. They fit close to my head and snugly cover my ears. I have a few different colors to keep things interesting but it’s still the same type of hat.

I didn’t know what to expect from the Scala Cloche since I’m not familiar with the brand, but I was pleasantly surprised. It was a flexible winter hat with more shape than a skullcap but still warm enough to wear when the temps are really low. I was excited to try it out and see if it was as effective as my collection of skullcaps.

It was indeed.

hi clueless fashionista i have a new dress which i bought for a wedding. i am having trouble however deciding what to wear over it as it will be cold. its a magenta skater dress. a coupe of different ideas would be greatly appreciated, i will attach a picture of the dress!

http://www.facebook.com/swampfashion

Thanks for submitting your question Lisa. This dress is quite cute and I know you’re going to look smashing at the wedding. Magenta is one of those colors that is hard to match because it doesn’t clearly go with any particular other color. I noticed that the belt that comes with the dress is black so you could go with a black pashmina type scarf to wear as a wrap. They look very lush and glamorous but can also be very warm.

http://www.pieway.com/dress/versatile-collection-of-shawls-for-girls/attachment/black-pashmina-shawl/

If it’s an evening, after five wedding, I would suggest go for sparkle or a rich fabric. Since it’s the holiday season, it’s easier to find pieces that have sparkle in them. You could try a sparkly black sweater/cardigan to wear open over the dress and pair it with sparkly jewelry to really make everything pop. Then, if you’re feeling adventurous, add some sparkly pumps and you’re all set to go. If not, a pair of fabulous black pumps will still get the job done. If you can’t find a sparkly cardigan, a velvet wrap or jacket would also work well. If you go for the jacket, make sure it is cut to flatter your shape (which means that it goes in at the waist). Then you could still pair it with the black pumps.

All in all, I would suggest you go for a black cover up and shoes and make the dress your pop of color. The cool thing about the extra pieces is that they are essentially neutrals and can go with other outfits easily. I hope this helps. Enjoy the wedding!

I was invited to participate in the “Present the Best You” contest hosted by Monster.com by writing a post giving tips on how to look your best when going on an interview and telling you about the cool new BeKnown App. I have the chance to win a $500 American Express gift card, an iPhone 4S and have this blog post featured on the The BeKnown Blog.

Recently a friend of mine went on a job interview and some of the applicants wore jeans and/or flip flops (She’s in Florida). I tend to take it for granted that everyone knows you should at least wear a jacket and skirt or slacks to an interview.

It appears they don’t.

I’m sure the idea of purchasing a suit for an interview can sound expensive to someone who’s never done it before. It doesn’t have to be. One thing to keep in mind is that you don’t have to purchase a complete suit. You can make a great impression in a jacket and skirt or slacks and it’s easy to find these pieces at very reasonable prices at the thrift store.

I recently visited a local Goodwill and found two pieces that I can wear in business situations and I spent less than $12 on both!

One is a black 100% wool skirt with a lining, which makes it great to wear year round. I did a quick search and the cheapest 100% wool skirt I found was one for $30. This one cost about $6.

Here is the skirt and the lining inside of it.

The second piece was a pair of gray slacks. I did a quick search and found some for as low as $20 which is a good deal for slacks but these were about $6, which is even better.

So fear not! You can find great business separates at the thrift store and look stylish for your interview without spending a lot of money.

And while you’re checking out the local thrift store and beefing up your professional wardrobe, you should check out the BeKnown app for the iPhone or BeKnown on Facebook.

BeKnown is a professional networking app for Facebook recently launched by Monster.com. BeKnown allows you to set up a professional profile directly on Facebook that is completely separate from your personal page. College Pages is one feature that allows you to network with fellow alumni of the schools you have attended and view job postings from fellow graduates. Now that you know where to find a great, inexpensive outfit, you can line up those interviews with confidence.

As a thank you for participating in this contest, I received a cute business card holder and makeup color palate. I also got one to giveaway! It’s a great business starter kit. In order to enter the contest, which ends Jan. 9, post a comment sharing at least one tip you would give someone about to go on their first interview. Can’t wait to hear your tips!

So the holidays are upon us, which means holiday parties and other festive gatherings. If you aren’t a regular party attendee, it could be a bit tough to figure out what to wear to these gatherings. Wearing all black is great and very ideal for this time of year. If you get a great simple all black dress, like this one for $40 from JC Penney:

Now that you have a great dress (which can be worn year round, by the way), you can jazz it up with accessories. Here are some tips on how to do that:

1. Stockings. Patterned tights/stockings have been very popular lately. You can get some with sparkle or a pop of color and go with black pumps for a classic but festive look.

2. Sparkly accessories. The holidays definitely call for sparkle. You can get hair accessories, brooches, bracelets and earrings that sparkle. The main thing I want you to keep in mind is that less is more. Aim for doing no more than two pieces at once. You want to sparkle, not glitter like a disco ball.

3. Holiday colored accessories. Red and green are popular holiday colors and if you want to go for a more subdued addition to your black dress, look for accessories in these popular colors. Since it’s officially the holiday season, you should be able to find them fairly easy. You can even go as far as to wear pieces shaped like trees, wreaths or snowmen (to name a few). However, less is also more here. Don’t do more than one of these types of pieces.

I hope these tips help. For the record, when I do the holiday party, I definitely go for all or mostly black with sparkly or bright colored accessories. Black is very slimming and flattering and the accessories (even shoes, especially shoes) help make the whole outfit pop. If you have a go to holiday party look, post a comment. I’d love to hear your insight.
