I know that yesterday’s post was about my life but it’s just so interesting that I have to do it again tonight. Just kidding! My life is so boring that my sister reads this blog every night when she gets off the late shift to help put herself to sleep. It’s like Ambien, but cheaper and with less side effects.

So where were we? Right. Damion has been on a business trip the past few days but before you get all excited about robbing me, please note that by the time you read this he will be on his way home. I can’t sleep when he’s not here. It’s not some lovey dovey act of rebellion because I don’t have anyone to snuggle with (which by the way, we are not snugglers. He stays on his side, I stay on my side and no one’s pillows get hurt). Mainly I can’t sleep because of fear. In our old house I was always scared that someone would break in because in our old neighborhood, it was highly likely. Now I have a burglar alarm and the only thing I fear is Cookie, our neighbors daschund. But I do still fear something happening late at night such as a fire that could harm our children and I wouldn’t have enough reaction time if I’m asleep. Yes, I’m crazy.. but we already knew that. So usually when he’s out of town I go to bed about 4am.

Last night however I decided to overcome fear (partially) and I went to bed at 2am. That’s huge! I had just passed out cold to the world when I heard a horrible sound kinda like someone had fell down the stairs. I know that sound too well because normally it’s me falling down the stairs. I sat up in a panick, looking at the clock to see it say 3am. Part of me wanted to jump out of bed and race to the stairs and the other part was still asleep so I couldn’t get my legs out of the bed.

Before I could get out of bed I heard more loud noises but this time it was like someone was bouncing balls upstairs on the wood floors or kicking the walls very loudly. Then I almost jumped out of my skin when something hit my window, very loudly. It took more time that I’m proud of to realize that we were in the middle of a huge windstorm and the noises that I was hearing were branches and pine cones coming off the tall trees and slamming into our roof and windows.

The next hour was a blur of checking the news for tornado warnings to find nothing at all about this freak storm and debating with myself if I should move the van into the garage or leave it in the driveway. I didn’t want to be driving a van half asleep in the middle of a huge windstorm so I thanked God for insurance and left it where it was. Then I sat around debating if I should go wake up the kids and bring them to the living room, which I felt was safer. Then I realized that they are on the backside of the house and were all very protected because of the location of their rooms. So I left them upstairs and laid on the couch, watching the news on my phone to make sure that things were safe.

Finally everything calmed down enough for me to fall asleep on the couch and get a few short hours of sleep before I woke up to notice Princess Girly Girl staring at me from the bottom of the stairs with the goofiest look on her face. Either she was shocked to see me there but happy to see that I was safe or she was shocked to see me there because she couldn’t sneak quietly into the kitchen and raid the candy stash before anyone else woke up. Yeah, we’ll go with that one.

So? We’re all safe, the van is unharmed, and Damion will be home today. Yea! Sleep is good, I miss it.

Today…

Princess Goofy asked if she could feed the cat dinner for the first time since it’s usually Princess Girly Girl’s job. Hours later I couldn’t figure out why the toilet brush was on the dryer until I looked in the guest bathroom, where the cat also eats, and found all the cat food in the toilet brush bowl. I’m sorry cat, very very sorry.

I worked on making a craft project for hours and it didn’t turn out. It was one of those disappointing times when you just sit there and try to figure out how much actual time you wasted. I’m not one to give up though! I am going to find a way to fix it. I can’t show it to you though because it’s for a baby shower this weekend. I will fix it, I will.

Somehow I discovered that the vocabulary word Princess Newbie best excels at is, “cookie”. Gee, I wonder why?

Our cat is mad, not about eating out of a toilet brush bowl, but because I won’t go to bed. She’s just spent the last hour walking around the house meowing like she was hunting for a fluffy bed. I guess she finally gave it up and curled up on the desk next to me. So much more comfortable than a bed, right?

For the baby shower this weekend I have one craft done, one printable made but needing to be printed, baby gifts to sew, and a few other crafts to do, cakes to bake and a house to clean. I love craziness, I work best under pressure and glue explosions. It’s gonna be a good week.

I originally saw this idea on Pinterest but I don’t from which blog! If you were the one who first thought of it, please let me know. This craft idea is so simple and so cheap, I think I’m addicted.

You see, this wonderful new house of ours has a ton of built-ins, which I love. But when you move from a very small house and you had to live clutter and knick knack free for 8 years, you don’t have a lot of stuff to fill all those built in bookshelves. What I do have right now is a ton of paint samples, all of the same shade of blue. I still haven’t found the right shade that I’m looking for but these were great to use up all the paint shades that I had nixed.

This craft is so simple all you need is glass vases and paint. I used several old vases that I had on hand and then scored a few more for half off at goodwill. The immediate cost, not counting what I had on hand, for this project was $2.33. If you don’t have a lot of paint samples on hand then you could always buy a cheap can of oops paint from one of your blue box stores and then mix with different shades of cheap craft paint to get a large volumn of paint for little. I would not just use craft paint for this project.

All you need to do is pour the paint in the vase and then swirl it around and slowly lean it down until the paint pours out the top of the vase. We held the vase back over the paint can if we were using a single color.

One two vases we got a little creative and swirled the paint before pouring it in the vase.

If you choose to swirl the colors than you need to barely mix them before pouring them in the vase. The black looks harsh now but it will soak into the surrounding color as it dries, it also pulls down into streaks thanks to the gravity but I really like it.

This is the same vase right after I swirled the colors and again the next morning when the paint had settled. I also tried swirling with white but but it was very hard to see, just gave it a delicate little detail.

After all the extra paint has poured out the top of the jars, set them upright to dry. I found that it helps to wipe all the paint off the rim of the vase so that you still have a clear edge.

So now I have one shelf filled and I think I’m going to get more vases from Goodwill and keep going across to the other side since the lantern full of twine isn’t really pulling it’s weight.

Now I just to get the other shelf filled and the picture of the nice anonymous couple that came with the frame replaced and this place might actually start to look acceptable.

Let me know if you make painted vases, I would love to see how they turn out! This would be a great project for those people overseas, let’s say… Belize…because you could paint pickle jars, hide the top ridges with twine and have some great easy decorations. Let’s get crazy with paint people!
