It all started with the answering machine. Then we had emails, mobile phones, and now mobile phones with emails. We now have Twitter, & ppl posting constantly about their lives. It isn't that I don't see how it could benefit this blog, but simply put, quite a bit of the time I don't give a da-- that you are sitting in Starbucks reading a book. Unless of course there is some benefit to me from that information, such as you are a friend I'm meeting for coffee. Also, I really don't figure you give a da-- that I am sitting somewhere either. I understand Twitter goes beyond that, but you get the point. I use twitter, and yes I've posted that I was sitting in a Starbucks.

So we have people running around with their iPhones and Crackberries worried they are missing emails, phone calls, and text messages. They are doing this while listening to music and Twittering away. With all of the social networking apps for the new smart phones, I have to admit I do love my iPhone, they are probably running an app that allows them to geotag the picture they just took, just before playing live poker and chatting with other players....

There are times when we all need to just unplug, turn off, disconnect, and chill out. What do you think? Are we just a bit toooo connected? Do we let all of these so called time savers actually suck up our time responding to and posting useless bits of information? You should read the The 4-Hour Workweek: Escape 9-5, Live Anywhere, and Join the New Rich by Timothy Ferris and see how he handles his time. I also calculate this for my other contextual advertising programs as it a very useful tool.

eCPM is "effective cost per thousand." The m is a holdover, I'm assuming, from manufacturing where it is "cost per million." It is basically estimated earnings for every thousand impressions received. Don't be fooled by excessively high numbers at the start because as your sample size, i.e. impressions, increase your eCPM will most likely drop.

eCPM is calculated by dividing your earnings by your impressions in thousands.

earnings
-------------- x 1000 = eCPM
impressions

I use it to compare ad units to help find optimal color, size, left/right placement etc.

example:

ad unit 1 has 500 impressions with earnings of $2.00 giving you an eCPM of $4.00. ad unit 2 received 400 impressions with earnings of 1.75 for an eCPM of $4.38.

This means that if you received 1000 impressions for ad unit 1 you would earn rougly $4.00 and for ad unit 2 roughly $4.38. Assuming your sample size is large enough to give you statistical significance it would be to your advantage to switch to ad unit 2 as they would generate more revenue per thousand.

hope this helps

How, you ask? Well let me explain.

For those of you who drop by on a regular basis or subscribe to the feed and read that way, you may have noticed that I haven't posted much on many of my blogs recently. Since the middle of November I have been very busy and just have run out of time. I just have waaayyy to many projects going, and have been eliminating superfluous time-consuming ones since the first of the year. I made the mistake of getting too many irons in the fire and have been paying the price. I was on vacation quite a bit from the middle of Nov through the end of the year and just didn't have time to get to everything. I realized I was just spread too thin to really be enjoying the fruits of my endeavors and decided to begin a New Year's pruning.

During the process of looking over data and analyzing projects from my blogs, affiliate marketing, various ebay projects, and others I noticed a loose relationship between blog posting and success and my affiliate work with Mr. Beer. During the times where I have been running Mr. Beer affiliate campaigns my blogging has been more frequent and consistent and my blogs have been more profitable.

Do the two things really have a relationship? Or is it just that while I was running Mr. Beer campaigns I was more focused online in general? I honestly am not sure. I am always running affiliate marketing campaigns and really can't figure out why that the several times a year I really focused on Mr. Beer that the blogging got better as well. I did not find the same type of relationship with my other affiliate campaigns. Also, Mr. Beer, is not my most successful of campaigns.

While not really able to get to the root relationship, if any, I have come to the very scientific conclusion that beer in any form makes a better blog. It doesn't matter if you are blogging about it, blogging while drinking it, blogging after drinking a ton of it(okay well maybe here it might be detrimental), or blogging while selling it, Beer makes for better blogs! That is my story and I'm sticking to it. What are some beer and blogging stories you have? Have you ever blogged drunk?

later all and have a profitable and productive blogging day

Step 1 - First Hand Product Review
La Cense Beef has been one of my most successful affiliate program MTD for August. I ran two ads with different keywords and had great success. Right now they are running a special for first time customers. Get 4 free steakburgers with purchase of $75 or more from La Cense Beef when you use the coupon code ATSB75! As with all of my most successful affiliate marketing programs, pay attention this is a key to success, I ordered the product and tried it out. I don't want to just put some ads and links out there about something I have not tried myself. Well, I must report that La Cense steaks are on par with some of the best steaks I have ever had. Grass fed beef tends to be leaner than grain fed and so cooking time becomes a bit more critical. I have to admit the first steak I cooked I overdid it a bit. Hey I was watching the Cubs game :). Well after this first trial and error the results were wonderful. The taste of the steaks and burgers had a very deep and hearty beef flavor. Well I'm no food critic, by any stretch, but I do love gourmet foods and have tried many many steaks. I have to say that these steaks are the best steaks I have ever had delivered. I highly recommend them.

Step 2 - Ride The Buzz Wave With La Cense Beef

For some of you who have known me for a while you know that I have been pretty successful online using affiliate marketing. Affiliate marketing is my #1 income stream online. This blog is catching up though much to my delight. One of my keys to affiliate marketing is to ride the buzz a product is already generating to affiliate success. I wrote an article a while back called Boca Java, Rush Limbaugh And Affiliate Marketing detailing a bit my buzz strategy to make money in affiliate marketing. La Cense Beef has been generating considerable buzz as of late. It is all over the place. It has gotten rave reviews, by Better Homes & Gardens, Bon Appetit, The New York Times, Saveur Magazine, and even got a mention by Elizabeth Hasselbeck on The View. Heck it is even being talked about on youtube.

Taking advantage of opportunities like this can be very beneficial for you as a blogger and affiliate marketer. Utilizing your advertising space and keyword ads to market hot products and taking advantage of buzz that is being generated elsewhere is great way to boost earnings. Be prepared to take advantage of opportunities like this to maximize your affiliate marketing income.

That is it. Trying out products and taking advantage of buzz. Two of my key strategies to making money through affiliate marketing. What are some of your affiliate marketing successes or strategies? Have you had a successful campaign? What did you do to make it that way? Let the discussion begin!

The new element, Governmentium (Gv), has one neutron, 25 assistant neutrons, 88 deputy neutrons, and 198 assistant deputy neutrons, giving it an atomic mass of 312.

These 312 particles are held together by forces called morons, which are surrounded by vast quantities of lepton-like particles called peons.

Since Governmentium has no electrons, it is inert; however, it can be detected, because it impedes every reaction with which it comes into contact. A tiny amount of Governmentium can cause a reaction that would normally take less than a second, to take from 4 days to 4 years to complete.

Governmentium has a normal half-life of 2-6 years. It does not decay, but instead undergoes reorganization in which a portion of the assistant neutrons and deputy neutrons exchange places.

In fact, Governmentium's mass will actually increase over time, since each reorganization will cause more morons to become neutrons, forming isodopes.

This characteristic of moron promotion leads some scientists to believe that Governmentium is formed whenever morons reach a critical concentration. This hypothetical quantity is referred to as critical morass.

When catalyzed with money, Governmentium becomes Administratium, an element that radiates just as much energy as Governmentium since it has half as many peons but twice as many morons

Again...I received this via email & have no idea who to credit. If that person is you then let me know.
- George Eliot

This is an interesting statement. What is your answer to the title question? Do you even know what the world believes about you? Do you even care? Does it even matter?

I think the statement is true in many cases. People become what other people perceive them as. People will let others perceptions of them define who they are and what they become. This is not a long post but I wanted to get you thinking. Are you the person you truly want to be? Or are you what other people percieve you to be? Are your perceptions of yourself different than others? How do you determine who is correct?

Lots of questions I know. Let me have your cognitive content on the matter. Leave a comment and let us know what you think.

Because you need to know what I think! :)
How heavy is your glass water? And if it is so dang heavy why don't you put it down and rest? Now the story.

A lecturer, when explaining stress management to an audience, raised a glass of water and asked, “How heavy is this glass of water?”

Answers called out ranged from 20g to 500g.

The lecturer replied, “The absolute weight doesn’t matter.”

It depends on how long you try to hold it.

If I hold it for a minute, that’s not a problem.

If I hold it for an hour, I’ll have an ache in my right arm.

If I hold it for a day, you’ll have to call an ambulance.

In each case, it’s the same weight, but the longer I hold it, the heavier it becomes.

He continued, “And that’s the way it is with stress management. If we carry our burdens all the time, sooner or later as the burden becomes increasingly heavy, we won’t be able to carry on.”

“As with the glass of water, you have to put it down for a while and rest before holding it again. When we’re refreshed, we can carry on with the burden. "

Whatever burdens you’re carrying now, let them down for a moment if you can.

Take a while to just simply RELAX. Put down anything that may be a burden to you right now. Don’t pick it up again until after you’ve rested a while.

Life is short – Truly Enjoy it!
Time and chance happens to us all and it pays to have a plan B. Car breaks down? at least you can push it. See what I mean. Preparation and planning can overcome quite a bit. Do you have a backup expense fund, 3-6 months expenses? Do you have life insurance and an estate plan, ESPECIALLY if you have kids? Do you have one of the thousands of mortgages that are going to eat you alive as the rates adjust? Do you have credit card debt out the wazoo?

These are just a few questions to ask yourself. Spend a minute on this fine day to examine your life just a bit. Take an introspective moment and truthfully answer the question "have a bought a car I can't push?" If your answer is yes start taking action today! That is what was on my mind.
No I have not lost it and yes I know what medium means. Let me explain and maybe you can understand a bit better.

I used to be a medium. No problems everyone has mediums and things seemed to fit just fine. Then I got the bright idea of working out, lifting weights and what not. Well I've bulked(muscle not fat :) just to clarify) up a bit, and have now run into a bit of a problem. My mediums no longer fit quite the way they used to. They are tight and bunch a bit in the shoulders and chest. Okay so I took this as a sign that I needed to move up to a large. NOPE. Didn't work. It looked like I was swimming in fabric, and wearing clothes that don't fit makes you look bad and cheap. I like my clothes to look as close to tailored, and even have some done, as possible. I also like them to be comfortable.

Okay, sorry back to the XM(not the overpriced satellite radio) stuff. For people that are smaller than small they have XS. Good solution. For folks that are larger than large they have XL. Another good answer to the obesity epidemic. Not only that they extend these ranges for the tiniest and largest amongst us. XXS and 3 or even 4XL anyone. But what about me? I feel like an under-served demographic of people that are actually pretty close to normal, medium. I'm not fat, well according to the BMI charts I am borderline obese, and I'm not skinny. My thoughts on those charts is for another time though. I feel pretty close to normal. I'm not quite a medium yet not quite a large. Hence the need for XM.

Funny thing is I have thought this out way too much. They could have XM+ and XM-, you know above and below M. That way you get those that are like me and the ones that are between M and S. See XM is a great solution to the problem. Hey I have always been told don't come with problems come with solutions. So here I am for all of you designers and powers that be in the clothing and fashion industries bringing you a solution, an idea whose time has come.

Of course I could just make sure that I only by medium shirts that are stretch w/a bit of spandex. That has been working also. Nah....Bring on the XM+!

Or are you what other people perceive you to be? Are your perceptions of yourself different than others? How do you determine who is correct?

Lots of questions I know. Let me have your cognitive content on the matter. Leave a comment and let us know what you think.

Three men sitting behind a couple nuns, their headgear partially blocking the men's view, at a baseball game decided to heckle the nuns in an effort to get them to move.

In a very loud voice the first guy said, "I think I'm going to move to Utah. There are only 100 nuns living there."

The second said, just as loudly, "I think I'm going to move to Montana. There are only 50 nuns living there."

The third, even louder, piped in "I'm heading to Idaho. There are only 25 nuns living there."

Finally having had enough one of the nuns turned around, looked at the men and in a the sweetest, calmest, most saintly voice said, "Why don't you go to hell....there aren't any nuns living there."
Where it seems that everything that could go wrong did? Or just a period of time where things just didn't work out the way you had hoped and you feel a bit like life has "dumped" on you?

I know I have. I have always made it through though. With the help of faith, family and friends you can make it through anything. It doesn't matter if it is just a single bad day or a lifetime of misfortune. The bible says, if you believe that way, that God will never allow more to be put on you than you can bear. No one likes to go through hardship. But, If you look at it as God showing a bit of confidence in you it does make it a bit easier.

If you aren't of a religious nature, or even if you are, just remember that time and chance happens to every man. Into each life at least a little rain must fall. Life sucks then you die. Some days you are the pigeon and some days you are the statue.
Then They Get Dressed.

Okay maybe this is just me, but what is it with people and not ironing. I know sometimes you are in a rush or just running to the store and throw on some "grubbies." But please I see people that are in "nice(er)" clothes that are wrinkled as he--. I probably dislike ironing as much as the next guy/girl but hey I do it. Not because I like it but because I want to look like what I am and want to be.

If you want to be successful you have to dress the part. I'm not saying you have to go out and spend tons of cash on a wardrobe, but you can at least make what you have look the best it can. I heard it said once that "all men are created equal...and then they get dressed." I am not going to rant on and on but I encourage everyone that if you want to be a success dress for it. Sorry, I was just out for a bit last evening and saw some of the scuzziest people and it struck a nerve.

Life's but a walking shadow, a poor player, that struts and frets his hour upon the stage, and then is heard no more; it is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.
William Shakespeare
I have noticed as I've traveled the blogosphere that too many blogs talk about making money but I have found that too few actually show and tell. They are in my opinion - blogs, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.

Too many have lost their way. The have become a shell of the blog they were and could be. We the blogging community have become focused on simply building traffic numbers, giving away "stuff" to attract readers, talking about how, when, and what to post, and about our latest dollar amount. What we fail to do is connect with our readers. We need to give more substance and less sound, more instructions, more guidance and less fury.

I am not so vain as to assume I am a blogging expert or an authority on making money online. There are literally hundreds of blogs that you could read about making money online and blogging monetization. There are many that have more posts, write with more finesse and wit, and have a longer track record blogging. I read them, as I am sure you do and should. I read about all the money they are making, conferences they are going to, people they are meeting with, and dinners ate. What I find too little of, are good explanations and instructions on the what, when, where, and how of their success.

Why am I here? Here meaning this small corner of cyberspace. What is my reason, my motivation, for this blog? Is my motivation simply to make myself a little money? No it goes deeper than that for me. Is it because I just feel I have this plethora of knowledge that will astound readers? No I'm learning as I go and simply sharing what I learn.

I have been suffering lately, as I am sure many of you have or maybe are, from what I would call "blog fatigue." I really didn't feel like posting, surfing, commenting or interacting with other blogs. I had to take a step back and examine my position, place my motivations under scrutiny, and regain perspective on the purpose of this blog. Let me state it clearly and succinctly. The purpose is as the title states Profitable Productive Blogging. Now so as to really understand what I mean let us explore together each word a little more deeply.

Profitable
Not simply profitable in monetary terms, but also in knowledge. Not for me alone, but for all who read. A community of readers striving for personal growth, financial security, and inspiring others to the same. Words that are profitable, useful, for teaching, correcting and training in the art of blogging, so that the blogger may be thoroughly equipped.

Productive
Fertile; Blogs that breed success in others. This is a true mark of a successful blog.

Blogging
Experience and knowledge, substantive, shared with others through the Internet. A collection of a persons thoughts, insights, and wisdom.

To all my fellow bloggers, lets take a minute to evaluate why we are doing what we are doing. We need more blogs focused on substance and centered less on style. As the blogosphere becomes more and more crowded, puff pastry blogs devoid of real substance will be left behind. They are but a "shadow, a poor player, that struts and frets his hour upon the stage, and then is heard no more." How many blogs have you seen fade away as their hour on the stage is up? To my readers, I will endeavor to follow my own advice and to offer you real substance, explanations, and mentoring so that we may all become profitable productive bloggers signifying long term success.

Lend me the benefit of your feedback. Do you agree with the article? Do you disagree? Is this blog relevant to you. Am I writing what you are wanting to read and providing information you are looking for? What are some blogs, heck maybe even this one, that in your opinion are maybe lacking a bit in the substance department? Let the debate begin.

Do you think you may be spending a wee bit too much on hosting? If you are looking to compare hosts and save some money you need to check out WebHostingGeeks dot com. Even if you are happy you should still visit WebHostingGeeks dot com. They have great reviews and ratings of many of the top hosts for blogging or for any other type of site. One of the great things about how the site is set up is that readers can review the host that they are using currently even if they don't go through WebHostingGeeks dot com.

In addition to the ratings and reviews they also have a ton of great information related to web site hosting. If you are just starting to think about hosting your own blog or site then you should check out all of the great articles they have on the subject. Even if you already have a web host and are experienced in that area there is plenty of information on everything from beginner instructions all the way to advanced information.

WebHostingGeeks dot com also has a blog where you can go for even more information on choosing a web host. The blog is very well written and has a large number of articles covering an array of topics related to the web hosting industry. An article I read the other day Three Steps to Finding a New Web Host has some great information for those of you looking to change to a new host or set up blog hosting for the first time. Overall this site is a great resource for those looking for a new host or wishing to change from their existing host. Swing on by and check out the site and the blog.
The only problem is Twittering from work isn’t exactly the most productive thing you can do on company time. And no doubt it wouldn’t go over very well with the boss. If your office has a work like a slave and don’t you dare Twitter in the office policy, then SpreadTweet is for you!SpreadTweet is a Twitter client disguised as a spreadsheet! You can choose between Office OSX (shown above), Office 2003 (Windows) and Office 2007 (Windows). The boss will think you’re working hard on a big project when you’re really just goofing off and running the company into the ground because all you’re doing is Twittering. All your tweets are displayed in plain text down the SpreadTweet page. You send a tweet by typing message in the top textbox and hitting the send button. There’s even tabbed views along the top so you can check your replies and direct messages, making SpreadTweet a relatively complete Twitter package.Don’t blame me if you get fired!SpreadTweet - Looks Like Spreadsheet But It’s NotFind out what I’m doing right now by following me on Twitter. I have considered doing video in the past, but never have gotten to it. I would like to start doing maybe several video posts a year and possibly several audio as well. What are your thoughts on video posting or any type of web-casting? Do you currently do video posts on you blog? Do you do any pod casting or other audio or video broadcasts personally or for your blog? Do any of you use Blog Talk Radio?
