Thesis is ‘do-it-yourself’ type of theme. You can customize thesis look and functionality with your own without hiring a developer. Thesis is well known for its air-tight SEO and easy to customize features. To start with Thesis you have to install and activate it on your WordPress powered blog.

Today we are going to show you steps used to install Thesis theme from WordPress administrator dashboard.

Login to your blogs WordPress administration panel.

Click Themes under Appearance section located on left sidebar of WordPress Dashboard.

On this page click on ‘Install Themes’.

You can search for WordPress free themes from WordPress theme directory on this page. But, as Thesis is a premium theme and you have to pay for that, WordPress doesn’t host Thesis (or any other Premium theme) on their server. After purchasing Thesis and download it on your personal computer in zip format, you are ready to upload it on web server. Use any FTP client (like FileZilla) to upload Thesis in themes directory of WordPress installation folder on your web server.
If you don’t have a FTP client and want to install Thesis just from your WordPress dashboard, then click on ‘Upload’ tab under ‘install Themes’ page. Browse for compressed (.zip) Thesis file on your system and click ‘Install Now’ button.

After finishing installation process, click on activate link to use Thesis from now, or do it later when you are ready to use. If you have used FTP client to upload theme files, go to “Manage Themes” section under themes tab and activate Thesis theme to use it.

When you activate Thesis for your WordPress powered blog a new tab, Thesis, will appear just above ‘Appearance’ section. This has all the Thesis settings which you can manage right from Dashboard. Check them out to configure settings and give your blog fresh look.

WordPress, most widely used blogging platform, has great functionality, customization, easy to use features. You can deliver your content in very flexible way by customizing default WordPress theme or installing readymade free and premium themes. Theme installation can be done by many methods, as listed below:

Install WordPress themes from WordPress Themes directory

Install theme from a theme copy on your computer, using Dashboard

By uploading to web server

All of above listed methods work perfectly. Today we are going to discuss second method to install WordPress themes. Follow these steps:

Log-in to your WordPress blog wp-admin panel.

Click Themes under Appearance tab.

If you use WordPress Multi-site (WPMS) feature, then first go to Network Admin page (http://your-domain.com/wp-admin/network) using link on top-right site of Dashbaord. Under Themes section click Add New link.

Here you can find two tabs at top of page, Manage themes and Install themes. Click on Install Themes tab.

If you have a downloaded copy of your theme, click on Upload link.

Browse zipped copy of theme file, select it and click Install button. This will upload your theme file to web server in WordPress themes directory.

After theme upload process completes you are asked to activate this theme, do it now or discard.

This theme is uploaded to your blog’s WordPress themes directory. When you want to use this theme activate it.

Thesis is among the very first and the ‘best in the box’ premium WordPress theme.Thesis is the first theme I used in the starting ages of my Internet marketing and blogging career. I used thesis from its early age, since then there are many improvements in the Latest release.

Thesis is the best theme for :

If you are not a hardcore coder or have very little knowledge of PHP or CSS, and want to make your website/blog look different from others then Thesis is the best theme. Apart from its highly customizable CSS options Thesis gives you a lot of functionality using simple and understandable hooks. Because of widely available tutorials on CSS customization, additional functionality and hooks over various blogs and outstanding thesis community, even a newbie can make fabulous websites. Here’s are the main features which I love the most in Thesis.

Thesis Customization Settings Panel:
Thesis enables three new settings for site, layout design and custom file editor settings.

1. Site Option settings:

Site option panel provides basic settings of theme element and SEO. In document head section you can manage Title tag settings, Robots meta tags, Synchronization Feed URL (like Feedburner) and additional scripts. For better control over your site’s visitors you can paste your favourite stats scripts code in Stats Script section. Custom Stylesheet options tab enables/disable your own custom stylesheets by selecting/de-selecting button.

You can also control Navigation menu settings and can Enable support to Windows Live Writer and other publishing platform. Apart from better on-page SEO, Thesis can provide you to options to enhance your Home page SEO by providing Meta Keywords and Descriptions.

2. Thesis Design Options:

Using Design options you can manage all the CSS properties of your theme. You can change number of column used on layout of theme as 2 column or 3 column, their order of appearance. We suggest you to use first option i.e. Content – Sidebar1. This will load your content first and then sidebar so that your visitors can view your main content first even on slow internet speed.

Display Options controls display of WordPress hooks on your posts and pages. Header, Byline, Posts setting, Archive settings, Sidebars, Comments, categories and tags.
Font and color tab gives your website blog a new look by entering color values to desired locations. For better visibility Thesis provides Post image, Thumbnail, Featured box and Multimedia box settings.

3. Custom File Editor:

Thesis also support your custom stylesheets and php functionality supported by WordPress, these can added by editing custom.css and custom-function.php files located in Custom folder under Thesis theme directory on your server. There is a powerful and active large community on the web for your help to customize these files.

4. Manage Options:

Its very painful and time taking to enter theme settings for all of your sites which are using thesis theme. Thesis resolves this issue by Import and Export different settings of your theme to a single file which can be read by Thesis.

5. Additional features:

Some more features can be added by applying custom php functions in custom-function.php file and by installing plugins for Thesis theme.

Favicon uploader to upload sites favicon(favorite icon) image.

Header image to upload theme header image

Thesis OpenHook can simply apply settings to different hooks of theme. This is a feature of separately installed plugin.
