About the Job

CMS is currently seeking someone who loves technology, enjoys working outside in challenging environments and loves working with people even more. We need a dynamic individual who is not only willing to work in the field, but one who is also willing to spend time in the office answering phones and doing whatever else needs to be done due to fluctuations in work load, etc. At CMS one of our greatest attributes is everyone is willing to help out anywhere at anytime, whether that be tackling a challenging customer service request or sweeping the floor.

Due to the rapidly growing size of our customer base we need more great people to work in the field installing equipment, pulling cables, climbing ladders and manning the phones to help support our great customer base!

We like to think we are one of the best providers of internet services and technology in the central Michigan area, and one of the biggest reasons we have accomplished this is due to the fact that we have a killer group of staff doing the hard work at the customer premise. Because we do such a great job at onsite work, we need more help getting through the backlog.
We are a 16-year-old, technology and internet services company. We are an extremely action oriented bunch, looking to expand our technical workforce rapidly.

Here is what we are looking for:

You have to be a high energy, go-getter. We don’t do laid back or lazy.

Technology has to be your passion.

You have to be a dedicated hard worker.

You need to be willing to scale ladders and work in high locations and sometimes hot/cold and dirty locations.

90% of the time you will be outside in the elements, seldom will you be in the office.

You will need to be an independent thinker and a rapid learner. Things move fast at CMS and we are willing and actually love to train staff our way, but we are not the hand holding type!

Good communication and good people skills. (MOST IMPORTANT)

You are looking for a career, not a job. A place to call home.

Here is the straight scoop on us:
We ask a lot of our people. We ask people to work long hours (often) and we expect quality results. We are a high energy, highly motivated team. We use a very autonomous management style, the last thing we do is babysit or micro manage.

Some people thrive in this type of environment and some fail. If you are the type to thrive then keep reading.

You will be a part of something here and will make a difference. You need to be passionate, dedicated and love technology.

This is a field position. Primarily you will be at customer sites or traveling to them, seldom will you be doing any “desk work”, other than updating tickets and your timesheets. You will be expected to take on evening shifts and weekend shifts. You will be part of a rotation though. You will not be expected to work every night or every weekend.

We firmly believe in being a ROW (results oriented workplace) if you are a great person and love our customers, then you will gain a great autonomy working with us.

If you don’t like to be bored and like to be challenged, keep reading. No two days are ever alike.
If we haven’t scared you off yet – you might be a good fit for us. Now, even with all that said, this really is a great place to work. Good people, GREAT customers, awesome team. We are fun but we do work hard, you really can have both.

OK, here are the boring details that you would expect to see for this type of job posting. They might be boring, but they are important, please read all the info below – there is some key information you need.

The ideal candidate will have experience troubleshooting PC’s, Mac’s and network hardware. Hands on experience setting up routers, access points and other network gear is a must.

Network cabling experience and certifications are a plus.

Things you should know:

How to perform network cabling, (Cat5-6)

How to properly weatherize an external network connection

General Windows setup and troubleshooting (XP, Vista, Win 7)

Some Macintosh OSX experience is a plus.

Moderate to advanced knowledge of TCP/IP

Familiarity of command line interfaces to configure equipment (Switches/Routers etc)

Networking (wired, wireless, routers, firewalls, etc)

Basic configuration of LAN’s

How to problem solve on the fly while on the phone or in the field.

If and ONLY if you fit the description above email jobs@cmsinter.net with your resume AND a 500 word essay on why you would be our next great field technician. You will get bonus points on the essay if you create an imaginary testimonial on how you think one of our customers would react after completing a support ticket with you. Keep in mind if you do not include an essay you will not be considered for an interview.
Thanks!

Technical Support Representative Job Posting- July 19, 2012

About the Job

CMS is currently seeking someone who loves technology and loves working with people even more. Due to the rapidly growing size our our customer base we need more great people to answer the phones and respond to email support requests as well as perform basic PC repair.

We like to think we are one of the best providers of internet services and technology in the central Michigan area, but heck, stuff still breaks! And when it breaks we hope our customers contact us first for help.

We are a 16-year-old, technology and internet services company. We are an extremely action oriented bunch, looking to expand our technical workforce rapidly.

Here is what we are looking for:

Technology has to be you passion.

You have to be a dedicated hard worker.

You need a little real world experience but this is an entry level position and we are willing to train. But you HAVE to WANT to learn.

You will need to be an independent thinker and a rapid learner. Things move fast at CMS and we are willing and actually love to train staff our way, but we are not the hand holding type!

Good communication and good people skills. (MOST IMPORTANT)

You are looking for a career, not a job. A place to call home.

We want someone who can bag us great testimonials like these:

“Always prompt at answering questions we have. Have helped us fix computer problems quickly over phone. “

“Jake always is such a great guy to work with. We appreciate everything he does for us!”

“Brandon was very polite and knowledgeable he seemed to know what he needed to do and got it done in a very timely manner. He was very helpful when explaining how things worked and a pleasure to work with I wish all my experiences with techs was as good as it was with him”

“Very helpful, very polite!”

“Couldn’t ask for a staff that is more willing to help their customers than the CMS staff. I would recommend them to anyone.”

Here is the straight scoop on us:

We ask a lot of our people. We ask people to work long hours (often) and we expect quality results. We are a high energy, highly motivated team. We use a very autonomous management style, the last thing we do is babysit or micro manage.

You will be a part of something here and will make a difference. You need to be passionate, dedicated and love technology.

You will be expected to take on evening shifts and weekend shifts. You will be part of a rotation though. You will not be expected to work every night or every weekend.

We firmly believe in being a ROW (results orientated workplace) if you are a great person and love our customers, then you will gain great autonomy working with us.

I learned some very valuable information regarding the use and protection of my computer and information. Tim is an excellent teacher!

I liked everything . You are a great ,passionate teacher and I had a good time listening to you and your teaching and also answer very nicely and simple to all the questions and concerns I had. It is such a great idea that you provide this type of support to your clients and are not just a regular internet provider.Hope you guys keep this energy for many years to come because that is what really makes you apart from other same type companies .

The energy and enthusiasm Tim has for his “job” make this training workshop a wonderful learning experience. My husband and I, have only high praise and no criticism. We are greatful for the opportunity to attend this workshop, our questions were answered, and, I was able to apply the knowledge gained as soon as I got home. We will welcome the opportunity to attend these classes again in the future. Thanks, Tim … !

I look forward to seeing you this summer!

Are you tired of hearing terms like phishing, viruses, spam, CPU, memory, disk space and others and not knowing what they mean or how they may apply to you?

Do you love the idea of the power and amazing things technology can do, but struggle to really take advantage of everything a computer can help you accomplish?

Are you dealing with a problem with your computer, or struggling to start or finish a project because you can’t stomp out the “bugs”?

Then the CMS FREE Tech Workshop is for you! Or as we prefer to call it internally, “CMS FTW!”.

CMS FTW is a super fun and low pressure environment, sure we are dealing with learning the ins and outs of a computer and your operating system and programs. But at CMS FTW there is no hardcore geek talking over your head, it’s held by our owner Tim Bohen. Tim has been helping others with technology since elementary school and he loves to teach it today, 30 years later!

One of the coolest aspects of the workshop is the fact that there is no hard set agenda. It’s truly an open forum to discuss and help any and all unique questions or problems the participants of the class may have. So far we have held 10 CMS FTW’s and EVERY one has been unique and different.

Here are some quotes from past participants:

“Keep up the good work. Tim is a very good speaker, and probably the first technician who gave a class where I wasn’t lost. I worked for a major firm and wish their technicians used Tim’s easy approach to technology. I haven’t heard explanations in American English for at least 2 years!”

“The openness. I felt very comfortable, and knew you, as an instructor, wanted to be there to teach us what we wanted to learn. I would love to attend another class when they become available.I did learn a lot. I have been to other computer classes that did not do much for me. Yours was excellent. I could ask anything, I feel I could call you with questions, and get my answer right away. I know you love your job it shows!!!!!!!!!!!!!”

“I really appreciated the wealth of information provided in this class. Tim is a great speaker and is a very educated instructor with a funny upbeat personality. I will go to all of the future classes I am able to attend. If you sign up for this class you really should attend it. It’s not only worth your time but gives others that want to be there the opportunity too. I was not aware that CMS is so much more than an internet provider they sell computers, service them and have all the latest accessories you could possibly need. They are always willing to help you with your computer issues and they are based in America. You can actually understand them and their customer service is unbeatable. Thank you for providing this free class it was great!!”

Every participant so far has greatly enjoyed the class, we have gotten tons of super positive comments, and almost every attendee asks if it would be possible to come to another session.

In previous sessions attendees have learned:

How to take better advantage of email.

Protect themselves from viruses and malware.

Secure their home networks and computers from hackers.

Which web browser is best and how to take advantage of its features.

Productivity enhancements

Cut and paste and other shortcuts.

Using Dropbox and other “cloud” apps.

How to organize and manipulate photos and other media files.

We truly think everyone could benefit from CMS FTW. Previous attendees have included people who just started using a computer a month before, some who have been using them a couple years, all the way up to a retired computer technician who had been in the field for over 30 years!

Considering the fact that we think anyone and everyone is a potential student, please sign up ASAP! Sessions will be filled on a first come first serve basis. They will be held monthly, but make sure you sign up TODAY or you may need to wait a month or more! Previous sessions have filled very quickly, usually in a few days or less!

And heck if the bragging above wasn’t enough to get you to sign up, there is free food and drinks too!! How can you turn down free food and the chance to have fun, meet new people and learn a new skill?!?!?

We look forward to seeing you at the next session!
