Technical Support Representative Job Posting- January 27, 2012

FYI, the following posting is completely separate from the recent IT Services job posting we requested here.

About the Job

CMS is currently seeking someone who loves technology and loves working with people even more. Due to the rapidly growing size our our customer base we need more great people to answer the phones and respond to email support requests as well as perform basic PC repair.

We like to think we are one of the best providers of internet services and technology in the central Michigan area, but heck, stuff still breaks! And when it breaks we hope our customers contact us first for help.

We are a 16-year-old, technology and internet services company. We are an extremely action oriented bunch, looking to expand our technical workforce rapidly.

Here is what we are looking for:

You have to be a high energy, go-getter. We don’t do laid back or lazy.

Technology has to be you passion.

You have to be a dedicated hard worker.

You need a little real world experience but this is an entry level position and we are willing to train. But you HAVE to WANT to learn.

You will need to be an independent thinker and a rapid learner. Things move fast at CMS and we are willing and actually love to train staff our way, but we are not the hand holding type!

Good communication and good people skills. (MOST IMPORTANT)

You are looking for a career, not a job. A place to call home.

We want someone who can bag us great testimonials like these:

“Always prompt at answering questions we have. Have helped us fix computer problems quickly over phone. “

“Jake always is such a great guy to work with. We appreciate everything he does for us!”

“Brandon was very polite and knowledgeable he seemed to know what he needed to do and got it done in a very timely manner. He was very helpful when explaining how things worked and a pleasure to work with I wish all my experiences with techs was as good as it was with him”

“Very helpful, very polite!”

“Couldn’t ask for a staff that is more willing to help their customers than the CMS staff. I would recommend them to anyone.”

Here is the straight scoop on us:

We ask a lot of our people. We ask people to work long hours (often) and we expect quality results. We are a high energy, highly motivated team. We use a very autonomous management style, the last thing we do is babysit or micro manage.

Some people thrive in this type of environment and some fail. If you are the type to thrive then keep reading.

You will be a part of something here and will make a difference. You need to be passionate, dedicated and love technology.

This is an office and field position. Primarily you will be at a desk answering phones and working at a bench completing PC repair but frequently you will be sent into the field to manage/replace network gear. You will be expected to take on evening shifts and weekend shifts. You will be part of a rotation though. You will not be expected to work every night or every weekend.

We firmly believe in being a ROW (results orientated workplace) if you are a great person and love our customers, then you will gain great autonomy working with us.

If you don’t like to be bored and like to be challenged, keep reading. No two days are ever alike.

If we haven’t scared you off yet – you might be a good fit for us. Now, even with all that said, this really is a great place to work. Good people, GREAT customers, awesome team. We are fun but we do work hard, you really can have both.

OK, here are the boring details that you would expect to see for this type of job posting. They might be boring, but they are important, please read all the info below – there is some key information you need.

The ideal candidate will have SOME but not a lot of experience troubleshooting PC’s, Mac’s and networks. Hand’s on experience setting up routers, access points and other network gear is a must.

PC repair experience and spyware and antivirus removal skills are needed.

It would be super cool if you have setup your own network at your home or a friend or relative’s business.

Things you should know:

General PC hardware repair and troubleshooting techniques.

General Windows setup and troubleshooting (XP, Vista, Win 7)

Some Macintosh OSX experience is a plus.

Some Linux experience is a plus.

Malware Cleanup

Networking (wired, wireless, routers, firewalls, etc)

Basic configuration of LAN’s

If and ONLY if you fit the description above email jobs@cmsinter.net with your resume AND a 500 word essay on why you would be our next great technical support technician. You will get bonus points on the essay if you create an imaginary testimonial on how you think one of our customers would react after completing a support ticket with you. Keep in mind if you do not include an essay you will not be considered for an interview.

Thanks!

We do our best to wow and amaze our customers, if you ever have ANY technology needs give us a chance to gain a great comment like these after we earn your business!

Tim

“I have been with CMS for about 10 years and I am very happy with the service I get, right down to the front desk when I pay my bill. Thank you for responding so fast, even tho, I figured out the problem myself. I just know you are there if I need you.”

“I think its great that when I call if there is no one to help me I leave a message and you really call back. Or I email and get a response right of way. Your people are always super nice. And more then helpful. I love your company please don’t change. Do you offer cell phone service by any chance? I have my cell carrier and I hated frontier and don’t even get me started about Verizon. Seriously you are the best!”

Thanks!! Unfortunately we do not offer cell phone service at this time.

“Brandon was very polite and knowledgeable he seemed to know what he needed to do and got it done in a very timely manner. He was very helpful when explaining how things worked and a pleasure to work with.”

“Nate was very helpful and patient with me as I am not very knowledgeable with technical difficulties with computers. Thanks for your help!”

“I’ve never had a problem taken care of as fast as I have through CMSINTERNET!”

“I spoke with your tech and he was so very helpful. I am definitely not computer literate and he walked me thru everything and got me up and running in a matter of minutes. Everyone is so very helpful whenever I have had to call, and I appreciate their patience so much. Thanks for having such a great bunch of people to work with.”

“Thank you CMS for being there when I need you!”

“I have always gotten answers to my questions and problems. Excellent service. Thank you.”

“Jake saved the day!”

“The people have always been very helpful and considerate when I’ve been in with problems.”

“Happy with the quick response..thanks! You guys are great”

“Couldn’t ask for a staff that is more willing to help their customers than the CMS staff. I would recommend them to anyone.”

Over the past couple years I have taken a great interest in acquiring the skill of welding. Fortunately right in my backyard is the Montcalm Area Career Center. Over the last four semesters of classes I have thoroughly enjoyed the great learning opportunity and instructors in the welding program! Because of that when I heard from my instructor Kurt Goodman that the program had recently changed textbooks and was lacking enough books to outfit the high school class, I looked at it as a great opportunity for “CMS Connects” our charity outreach program.

After devoting some time scouring my contacts I was able to find a source for discounted textbooks and made the acquisition of SIX textbooks that typically cost $130+ EACH at most outlets.

While welding and textbooks may be quite divergent from internet access and IT services, all the staff at CMS was very excited about this way to give back to the community.

“One of the coolest things about CMS Connects is it gives all of us a chance to reach out to the community and help in ways completely different then our day to day job responsibilities, which keeps things fresh and fun at CMS!” commented Mike Snyder CMS wireless technician.

One of the reasons I myself was so excited about this opportunity to give back to the community, centered on the fact that these high school kids are learning a skill and a trade that could very well provide them a life long career. Also, I am constantly trying to learn new things and grow. If I can help a young adult along the path to learning and skill building I’ll help any time I can! Not to mention a donation like a textbook has the ability to help over and over. In theory each one of these textbooks could help tens or maybe hundreds of students.

This workshop has been one of the most exciting and challenging projects I have endeavored upon in recent history. I look forward to helping and teaching as many customers, and non customers alike as I can.

Here are some quick comments from attendees of previous sessions, I hope they speak better about the class then I ever could!

The class was one the the most informative classes I have ever attended. I can’t wait for the next one…THANK YOU TIM !!!!!

You did a good job and looking forward to more classes. hopefully I can keep up with your information.

Friendly low key atmosphere…

The free flow of questions and answers, thanks for covering phishing and spamming.

No question was discounted as not important.

I like the opportunity to ask questions about ANYTHING!

I liked the town hall form of the class. It allowed input from everyone. Because of this I have learned about things I had no idea existed. It’s a great class and very well conducted..

There is nothing I didn’t like about the class it was awesome…

I liked the informality and ease participants had to ask questions and share ideas. The spacious room was conducive to learning new things. Tim may have had an outline but his delivery off the cuff was informative — a born teacher.

I look forward to seeing any and all participants and hope to build this class into a long term project!

As of July 1st, CMS has added yet another ultra-high-speed Gigabit fiber backbone connection to our network.

This additional backbone connection will increase the performance and reliability for all CMS customers as well as increase CMS’s overall capacity by 50%.

For this additional connection, CMS has partnered with Hurricane Electric, a global backbone provider and connected to their facilities at the Lakeside Technology Center in Chicago, IL.

The Lakeside Technology Center is the world’s largest data center at 1.1 million square feet, and is home to nearly all of the world’s top Internet companies.

This connection gives CMS a third upstream provider, in addition to our two existing Gigabit connections: Cogent Communications which CMS added earlier this year, and 123.net in Southfield, MI. This brings our total capacity to 3 Gigabits (Gbps) or 3000 Megabits (Mbps)

About Hurricane Electric
Hurricane Electric operates its own global IPv4 and IPv6 network and is considered the largest IPv6 backbone in the world as measured by number of networks connected. Within its global network, Hurricane Electric has 45 major exchange points with connectivity to more than 1,700 different networks. Employing a resilient fiber-optic topology, Hurricane Electric has no less than four redundant paths crossing North America, two separate paths between the U.S. and Europe, and rings in Europe and Asia. In addition to its vast global network, Hurricane Electric owns and operates two data centers in Fremont, California – including Fremont2, its newest 200,000 square-foot facility. Hurricane Electric offers IPv4 and IPv6 transit solutions over the same connection at speeds exceeding 10 Gbps.
Additional information can be found at http://he.net.

About Cogent Communications

“Tech was out today, and explained everything great…even for me to understand. Plus worked it out so it saved me money in the long run. I just wish your service was out in Az. to were I go for the winter. ”

“The help I received from Cory at my home yesterday in response to a ticket was excellent. ”

“I am looking into a new internet provider and I was extremely pleased with the prompt response of your agent! I received an email from them almost immediately. I am really looking towards switching from Frontier internet to CMS. ”

“I’m very pleased with the service done on my computer. Thank you for getting it done so quickly.”

“Technician very competent, called, arrived promptly, made necessary repairs and got us going again. Great service and highly recommend CMS to friends and neighbors!”

“CMS is always very good.”

“Fast response time. Problem solved. Instruction given and equipment provided to solve the problem should it occur again.”

“The installer was very friendly and worked very fast. Very happy with installation and faster speed.”

“Dave did an excellent job. He was freindly, courteous, and very punctual and helped fit the install to my schedule. I would definitely tell my friends about CMS.”
