I know many of you have been wondering what has happened to the Chatham Middle School News Podcasts this year. A number of techical issues has prevented me from posting new podcasts. However, now that our new CMS computer lab is up and running, our website has been moved successfully, and our teachers and students have settled in for the new year, I am able to start producing podcasts. Look for show 36 in the next week! (or two)

This is the LAST CMS News Podcast for this school year!

In our last podcast, Trish and Amanda share their 8th grade graduation speeches. They are wonderful!

Just a few announcements and then the podcast team of Theresa, Kyle, Satarra, and Tommy will entertain you with their “Sports Podcast.” These students designed, recorded, edited, and produced this segment entirely themselves.

Mrs. Macomber's eighth graders, Amanda and Trish, share their great eighth grade graduation speeches. Mrs. Macomber, as well as all their other teachers past and present at CMS, can be proud of these two students. What a great way to end the year!

Show # 33 Young Podcasters!

My 8th graders have been assigned to create and produce their own original podcasts. Students worked as teams and made all the decisions, recorded and did their own editing as well as converting to the correct format. This podcast contains the first group's efforts.

Please take a moment and listen to the podcast produced by Colin, Julius, Kippi and Miles. Julius did a segment on transitioning to the high school. He interviewed Mrs. Mckay and Mrs. Jones as well as a few students. You’ll hear some jokes that Miles put together, as well as a segment on the progress of Project Citizen eighth graders. These students even created their own mix of royalty free music for their intro and conclusion.

Do you know what an Anole is? They have invaded the fifth grade classrooms! Listen to Jilanne Silvester’s students interview each other about these fascinating creatures.

Susan DiGiacomo’s 8th grade Project Citizen representatives, Jack and Ella, are interviewed about their project to increase Physical Education in our school. They’d like to hear what you think.

Abby, from Cassie Kloumann’s class, wrote an original poem that is timely with Memorial Day coming up.

Host, Ann Morgan explains a little about how the CMS students are using the Massachusetts Online Network (MassOne) resources in our school.

This may be my favorite podcast! Listen to a student interview Mrs. McPherson about the annual CMS Reading Challenge. On the spur-of-the-moment I handed Katie a recorder and she conducted a great interview! Jenny, Susan, and Max, from Mrs. Kloumann's fifth grade, share some original poetry. The poems are in honor of Poetry Month. I especially love the message of the first poem.

Put on your dancing shoes! Mrs. Travis shares a Flamingo Dance Workshop experience that her students have been participating in all week. Many of the staff know of this annual event, but never knew what it was because of schedules. No wonder the students love it!

Forget the long bus ride to Sturbridge, MA. Mrs. Silvester took all the voice recorders and put her students to work while on a field trip to Sturbridge Village. She then crafted her own podcast. It's very impressive and it's here, in part, for you to enjoy. Look for more podcasts from this very talented class. Her class website is www.chatham.k12.ma.us/cms/Tcms/silvester/

I'll also share, as promised in show #29, part of a school committee presentation that Mrs. Macomber's students gave regarding music education at CMS. This Project Citizen assignment has become very important to these young people. Please listen and give them some feedback.

Students want you to know!

Amanda, Taylor, and Trish share their experience before the Chatham School Committee. Last week, show #28, students were interviewed about this project. This week they presented their findings and asked the school committee to re-establish music education for the 7th and 8th grade middle school students. They did an excellent job!

Show 28 features Mrs. Macomber’s eight grade students, Nick, Amanda, and Trish.

They talked about their Project Citizen assignment and are asking listeners for input and support for music education for seventh and eighth grade students at the middle school. The class will be presenting to the Chatham School Committee on April 10th. They hope you will support their efforts by attending the meeting and sharing your thoughts and ideas about this project.

Mrs.Travis submitted a segment from one of her French classes. Julius and Kippi have Internet safety tips. One is on Cyber Bullyling another on password safety. Of course there's CMS news and calendar events. There is a special segment from a class in Melrose, MA. I connected with Mr. Greer ,who works in the technology department in Melsrose, MA, via the MASSONE forum. He and I have exchanged e-mails about podcasting. I have really enjoyed helping him get started with podcasting. I have included a very brief segment from one of his podcast teams. Podcasting is growing! We also received a great e-mail from a listener in California!

Show 21 is packed! Officer Massey talks about the Internet Safety Program scheduled for parents later this month. Kyle and Tom did a FANTASTIC job on their commentary of the game last night … wow! They wore the batterries out on the recorder! Don’t worry, we used just a short clip! The game sounded exciting! We have a few sample questions from the geography bee contestant playoff. Steve and Sam have a special art feature to share. Students produced some segments for the Yearbook Talent Show and the Student Council has news too. Of course there’s news from the office as well. The end of the show features a Latin Christmas carol!

What I love about this show is that the students took the initiative for providing segments for the show! They asked me for the digital voice recorders and did the rest! Let us know what you think ... we value your comments!

In this podcast Chris is the host and reporter Matt used the digital voice recorder and recorded various cast members backstage of the Piped Piper Drama Production. He even recorded some music. Matt put the whole drama segment together for the show. Some of Mrs. Barnes’s students interviewed her about the Geography Bee. There is also news from the office.
