Read on to see why Dry Brushing is the ultimate massage service for you!

Fast Facts

This is a full-body exfoliation treatment

Increases circulation

Helps stimulate lymphatic drainage

Great for people with sensory sensitivity

Can break down cellulite

What is a Dry Brushing Massage?

Dry brushing is an exfoliation treatment that utilizes a coarse, natural-fiber bristles brush over the whole body in a rhythmic pattern. The pattern of movement helps increase body circulation and energy throughout the body.

The coarse bristles help remove dead skin cells which helps improve the skin’s overall texture. It also helps detox the body by opening and unclogging pores.

The Dry Brushing technique originated over 5,000 years ago as part of the holistic medicinal science of Ayurveda. It is said that regular dry brushing can help keep the body youthful. Dry brushing is still used in everyday beauty routines in India today.

Because of the increased flow of lymphatic drainage, performing regular dry brushing can help improve the texture of the skin leaving behind smoother, firmer-looking skin.

Benefits

Exfoliation, leaving behind smooth, soft skin

Relaxation

Release of toxins

Lymphatic Drainage

Reduce the appearance of cellulite temporarily

“For the Sensories:

A sensory brush is similar to a surgical scrub brush, or a brush you use to remove the silk from a cob of corn. These are beneficial for general sensory dysregulation, hyperactivity and tactile sensitivity.

It is beneficial for individuals who engage in undesired or unsafe behaviors, or who are sensory seeking. It can also help children who are overly cautious, picky eaters or slow-to-start. When used regularly, dry brushing can help a child optimize their activity and arousal levels, while reducing sensory defensiveness.” -www.brainbalancecenters.com

Risks

If you have sensitive skin, body acne/rosacea or eczema, or have a recent tattoo, avoid this treatment and opt for a regular, custom massage as to not cause further irritation.

This massage uses almond oil, if you have any nut allergies, please let us know when booking so we can use a different oi

How to Prepare for a Dry Brushing Massage

Massage is always best on cleansed skin, free from any lotions or oils. Make sure not to shave the day of to avoid any skin sensitivity. The day before is just fine.

What to Expect During a Dry Brushing Massage

During your dry brushing session, your massage therapist will use the brush in the palm of their hand to do circular motions along the whole body, typically starting with the feet and working their way up to your entire body. The brush works up the body in the direction of the heart. This is because of how the lymph system drains, towards the center of the body.

The brush is run over each body part typically around 10 times in a circular, clockwise motion before moving on to a different area.

Your skin might be lightly pink after your treatment. This is normal. The strokes should be smooth and soft. Your massage therapist will watch how your skin reacts to pressure to see if it needs to be lighter or deeper. If you ever feel like it is too rough, let your massage therapist know and they will adjust.

Cost

The cost of a dry brushing session ranges since this service can be performed at home. At CNY, it is $150/session but you get to take your brush home with instructions on how to perform this service regularly yourself.

Dry Brushing Massage at CNY in Syracuse

In Syracuse, we combine our dry brushing treatment with a 1-hour full-body massage making the whole session 90 minutes. Following the half-hour dry brushing session where your skin will be detoxed and impurities removed, your one-hour massage will bring hydration into the skin with your choice of oil. Both oils used are almond oil made by our very own herbalist Amanda (@botanical_handworks). Oil scents are plain or rosemary mint and the choice is yours on which one to use during your custom session!

What makes this session unique is that afterward, you will be able to take your brush home with a detailed instruction sheet from your massage therapist on how to perform dry brushing at home, on yourself! The benefits only increase from doing this regularly!

After your session, you will leave feeling refreshed & restored with the softest skin ever!

For everything, you need to know about facial services, read on!

What is a Facial?

A facial treatment is a great way to get your skin glowing! Facials help with acne, scars, wrinkles, fine lines, hydration & so much more! Facials bring life back into dull skin with exfoliation and cleansing combined with products and serums. The experience of a facial can be relaxing and rejuvenating. Our motto here at CNY Healing Arts in Syracuse is: Relax, refresh, and rejuvenate! A facial treatment is right up there in popularity with a massage!

Steps of a Facial in Syracuse at CNY Healing Arts

A facial will begin with the client and esthetician discussing the client’s skin and determining which products are best suited to treat the goal of the appointment.

The steps of a facial are: cleanse, exfoliation, steam, extractions, mask, massage.

Cleanse

The cleansing process will start with your face being wrapped in a warm, moist towel to open up the pores and get rid of any makeup or dirt that may be on your face from the day. A gentle cleanser will typically be massaged into the skin to make sure the skin is properly cleansed. Clean skin is best for a facial so it can soak up serums, hydration, and reduce the risk of bacteria getting into the pores. The esthetician can then tell which mask will be best for your skin seeing it clear and clean.

Exfoliation

During a signature facial, the exfoliation step is generally a scrub or gel massaged into the skin to help clear out pores before extractions. Exfoliation helps slough off dead skin cells leaving skin renewed, ready for fresh cell growth.

Steam

Steam will be used at various points during a facial treatment. It can be used during the exfoliation step to help open pores and also will be used while a mask is on the face. Both ensuring pores are open and the products can do their job!

Extractions

Extractions are that feeling that hurts so bad but feels so good. Areas like your nose and around the mouth can be very sensitive and will probably make your eyes water when blackheads or whiteheads are being extracted. The estheticians use different tools to pierce and push impurities to the surface. The steps before extractions help prepare and soften the skin to make extractions less painful.

Mask

A mask is applied specifically catered to your skin type. Different masks can help with acne, hydration, oily or dry skin. A mask is typically applied to the skin for 5-10 minutes. The esthetician will watch your skin for redness or irritation before letting you relax with steam.

Massage

While the mask is on, your esthetician will give you a soothing hand, neck, and shoulder massage. Your face has just been cleansed and is ready to glow! So sit back, relax, and enjoy pure relaxation bliss!

Final Applications?

A facial treatment will end with serums, moisturizers, and of course the number one beauty product: SUNSCREEN!

How Long Does a Facial Take?

Facial lengths all depend on the treatment itself. Typically, a signature facial following the steps above takes about one hour. Shorter facials are sometimes available but generally don’t include all the steps listed above.

More advanced, medical-grade facials vary in length.

Cost of a Facial

Signature facial costs range from around $50-$120+ with the average being around $75

At CNY Healing Arts in Syracuse, a signature facial is $90 and an express facial is $60.

Benefits of a Facial

Benefits of a facial include:

Deep cleansing of the skin

Help reduce acne

Bring hydration to the skin

Cain aide with oily or dry skin

*The signature facial can temporarily improve fine lines and wrinkles but for severe cases of skin texture, wrinkles, or acne, more medical-grade facials are better suited such as microdermabrasion, HydraFacial, chemical peels or laser treatments.

Risks of a Facial

Redness

Rash

Irritation

Allergic reaction

Increase in breakouts

Burn

* To avoid any risks or side effects, make sure to give a detailed health history to your esthetician before treatment*

For everything, you need to know about waxing- see below!

Fast Facts about Waxing

Waxing is an alternative to shaving

Waxing effects last longer (3-4 weeks) than shaving

Benefits of waxing include: soft skin, no cuts or bruises, slow hair re-growth, generally irritation-free

Side Effects may include: bleeding, bumps, redness, skin irritation

Pain minimizes the more often waxing is done

Hair generally grows back thinner

What is Waxing?

Waxing is the process of removing unwanted hair from parts of the body by applying heated wax and peeling it off, including the hairs.

What are the Difference Types of Waxes?

Generally speaking, there are two different types of waxes that are used at CNY Healing Arts in Syracuse:

Strip wax: Srip wax uses a strip of “paper” to pull the wax off. The wax used with strips adheres not only to the top layer of hair but to the top layer of skin as well, which causes more irritation. Redness and swelling are sometimes side effects.

Hard wax: Hard wax is exactly that, hard, and does not need the paper to pull it off. It can be applied to the skin and pulled off directly. It adheres only to the hair and is thus more gentle on the skin.

Regardless of the type of wax, the wax is heated and then applied to the skin with a wooden applicator. The choice to use hard or strip wax is based on personal preference. The hard wax is typically more gentle on the skin, therefore more generally used in a Brazilian or Bikini wax but can also be used on areas such as the eyebrows, face, or underarm.

How long does a Wax Last?

It typically takes 3-4 weeks for the hair to start growing back. This also depends on the person and the type of hair they have. Getting regular waxes helps hair grow back on a schedule and usually thinner.

How to Prepare for a Wax?

It is best to perform a gentle exfoliate about 2-3 days before treatment. This allows all the dead skin to be sloughed away and minimize clogged pores. A light exfoliation or use of a washcloth will do the trick. Don’t excessively exfoliate as this will irritate the skin.

For mostly all body areas, hair should be grown out to about ¼ inch long (the length of a grain of rice) or about two weeks before getting your wax. This ensures the esthetician can grasp the hair with the wax to pull out. If the hair is too short, the follicle won’t come out, and you may be left with patches.

Avoid tanning or swimming about 24 hours before your appointment.

Try to avoid caffeine and alcohol on the day of your wax. These two things can cause pores to tighten, making the experience more painful.

You can take an over the counter pain reliever before treatment, such as Ibuprofen.

Make sure any area you are looking to get waxed is not exposed to the sun or sauna for three days before treatment.

Different Types of Waxing:

Face Wax: Lip, Eyebrow, Chin, Full Face

Every three weeks is typically a good schedule for waxing services on your face.

Hair needs to be long enough for the wax to grip.

Never get waxed on the day of a special event. The skin around where you are getting waxed will typically be red for a few hours after treatment.

Underarm Wax

Either the strip wax or the hard wax can be used on an underarm wax. The esthetician will start by cleansing your armpit, removing any build-up from the day. Try not to wear deoderant to your appointment. After the arm has been cleansed, the wax will be applied. If there are hairs left over, your esthetician may go in with tweezers after checking with you. This is a sensitive ara where pain might be higher.

Aftercare:

Wear a top where your underarm can be easily accessible

Avoid tanning for a few days after your wax, as the skin will be more susceptible to sun damage.

Arm Wax

Arm waxing is great for people who need sleek looking arms such as models or swimmers. It leaves the arms without stuble from shaving. Some people who have a lot of arm hair notice a difference in the way their clothes fit/feel with less hair. Hairless arms are more convenient for moisturizing, exfoliating, and overall skincare.

Aftercare:

The skin might be more irritated or susceptible to sun damage from having less hair.

The skin might be over-exfoliated

Stubble can be awkward during the growing out phase

Full or Half Leg Wax

Leg waxes are great for people who hate shaving every day. The longer growing period makes legs smooth and hair-free for weeks instead of only a few days. Whn you first start getting waxes, your legs will not be baby-smooth at first. The hair is conditioned to grow a certain way and time. Over time with continued leg waxing, the hair will adjust to waxing over shaving.

Aftercare:

It will be more comfortable to wear baggy pants after your wax

Avoid exfoliating the legs for at least 3 days

Take a cold-warm shower, excessive heat is not good for freshly waxed legs

Avoid activities where you might excessively sweat

Bikini, French Bikini & Brazilian Wax

The Bikini/Brazilian wax removes hair from the pelvic region. Depending on which variation you choose determines how much hair will be removed. With any variation, you can expect your whole lower half to be exposed. You will be in a private room with just your esthetician. They are used to this. Although it may feel uncomfortable at first, it just another service to them. This is their business, so don’t worry about exposing yourself so much! Some places offer disposable underwear, but for anything more than a bikini, you will need to be completely bottomless. Depending on the amount of hair being removed- be prepared to assist your waxer by moving into different positions or holding parts of your body.

What is the difference between a Bikini, French Bikini & Brazilian Wax?

Bikini: The side of the bikini line gets waxed

French Bikini: The sides plus in a little bit leaving hair down the center of the front

Brazilian: All hair is removed from front to back and everywhere in between

If your still not convinced the ultimate relaxation plus deep tissue work of a Warm Bamboo Massage is for you, read on to learn the benefits!

Fast Facts

Warm Bamboo Massage uses warmed bamboo sticks of different lengths and diameters to massage

The sticks act as an extension of the massage therapists hands

This is a warm treatment

A treatment is typically an hour to an hour and a half long

Great for deep tissue work

What is a Warm Bamboo Massage?

A heated bamboo massage may sound new, but bamboo has been an important part of eastern culture for generations. It is a renewable resource, and some feel it has an energy all of its own!

Heating the bamboo tools helps increase relaxation. The set of tools can provide a variety of techniques and pressure during the massage. The tools act as an extension of the massage therapists’ hands for Swedish, Deep Tissue, and Trigger Point work. The bamboo sticks offer a kneading and ironing element that helps release muscle tensions. The combination of the bamboo tools and technique can be especially beneficial in a deep tissue massage.

The bamboo sticks are varying sizes. Some are fully circular while some have one smooth, flat side and the other side is rounded. The smoothness of the tools helps the therapist penetrate and maneuver the tools to hit certain muscle groups that usually cannot be penetrated by deep tissue work with a therapist’s hands. This makes deep tissue massage easier on the therapist to perform on the client.

Benefits

The Bamboo Tools helps the massage therapist get deeper into muscle groups than they could with just their hands/fingers

Relieve muscle ache

Improve lymphatic drainage

Can help skin glow because of the ingredients in bamboo such as silica

Silica helps the body absorb calcium, potassium, and other essential minerals.

Help alleviate psoriasis and eczema

Stimulates blood circulation

Increases flexibility

The tools break down muscle tensions felt in the legs, feet, and IT bands. As such, this massage is especially great for runners, cyclists, and athletes for enhancing sport performance.

This type of massage also has its advantages for the massage therapist. The tools help to minimize stress put on the therapists arms, hands and fingers. Less stress on their own body lets them penetrate deeper into the muscle groups to help achieve the desired pressure. Once the therapist is comfortable with the bamboo sticks through training, they can maneuver and use them as trigger point work like they would with their hands/fingers.

How to Prepare for a Bamboo Massage

When deciding where you want to get your massage, make sure it is with a massage therapist who has been trained in performing the bamboo massage.

It’s also important to make sure you hydrate your body prior to your massage. Why?

Massage releases toxins in the body. Hydrating before and after helps the body break down these toxins easier. Hydrated muscles are also easier for a massage therapist to manipulate and move around over a dehydrated muscle.

What to Expect During a Warm Bamboo Massage

During the massage, your massage therapist will use the different tools on your entire body. Depending on the muscle groups, different tools or techniques may be used.

This is a warm treatment since the tools are heated as well as the massage bed. If you fear you will become too warm during your massage, let the receptionist know ahead of time and the bed will not be warmed. Since the body is stimulated by the heat, it helps circulate toxins and remove them. This improves lymphatic drainage and gets rid of excess fluids throughout the body. A warm bamboo massage is a great treatment if you are looking for a little detox on the body.

Cost

The cost of a Warm Bamboo Massage ranges from $50 up to around $175 depending on where you have this service done and the training behind it.

Warm Bamboo Massage at CNY in Syracuse

At CNY Healing Arts in Syracuse, we have one massage therapist, Kristin Biondi, who specializes in the Warm Bamboo Massage. Kristin is a certified Bamboo Fusion therapist taught by the founder Nathalie Cecilia in 2016. Kristin has been a NYS licensed massage therapist since 2001. Kristin’s other modalities practices include: prenatal massage, hot stone and Thai poultice as well as Swedish and deep tissue techniques.

“I really liked when Kristin used the large bamboo tool on my legs. When she rolled it on the back of my upper leg, it felt like a foam roller. It was great for muscle recovery and got really deep into my thicker, tight muscle groups!”

About Bamboo Fusion Massage

Information found at Bamboo Fusion

“Our goal is to provide a solid foundation through our hands-on workshops for our graduates to be confident in the technique. Our hand saving technique helps extend the careers of massage therapists and bodyworkers by reducing repetitive use and stress injuries.

Bamboo Fusion is an innovative modality that integrates the use of heat and bamboo tools in varying shapes and sizes to apply massage to the muscles body.

Warm bamboo massage is a very versatile technique that can be applied as a luxurious Swedish style spa treatment or for deep tissue massage. The gentle heat from the bamboo increases circulation and softens muscle tissue and fascial restrictions.

The tools were created to be an extension of your hands and designed to easily replicate the movements and techniques we do with our hands, thumbs and forearms. Kneading, compression, rolling, Trigger Point Therapy and effleurage all combine together in this amazing hand saving modality. Since the tools are comfortable to hold you are able to apply very deep pressure with ease.

Introducing tools into your practice means working smarter not harder. Our tools help reduce fatigue while avoiding strain on your hands and wrists. Bamboo-Fusion® massage is a career extending modality your clients will love.”

What is a Prenatal Massage

Massage has been used for years to relieve stress, improve health, and bring comfort back into the body. Prenatal massage includes all of those benefits but is also comforting the momma with specific techniques who is bringing life into this world!

A typically prenatal massage is a Swedish massage. A Swedish, relaxation massage will help relieve pregnancy symptoms such as anxiety, muscle aches, swelling and improve pregnancy labor plus newborn health.

Prenatal massage is performed by trained massage therapists who have been certified for Prenatal massage. There are specific techniques used to relax muscles, improve blood circulation, and address specific points in the body that are typically uncomfortable during pregnancy due to hormonal changes.

Studies have shown that regulating hormones from massage can have a significant impact on a pregnant woman’s mood and overall health. Bi-weekly massage can improve feelings of depression that are associated with pregnancy.

How a Prenatal massage is Different than a Regular Massage

A Prenatal massage caters specifically to the changes in the body during pregnancy. During a regular massage, you typically lay on your back for the first half and then flip over to your stomach for the second half. With a prenatal massage, it all depends on what stage of pregnancy Mom is in. For example, laying on your stomach might be uncomfortable for Mom and the baby and laying face up, can sometimes put pressure on blood vessels that can disrupt blood flow to the baby, causing feeling of nausea.

Because pregnant women literally have a human growing inside of them, causing their stomach and breasts to grow, a pregnancy pillow is used with specific cushioning and holes to allow the body to lay comfortably. Another option is to lay on their side with the assistance of cushioning. During a regular massage, these added cushions are not needed.

A Prenatal massage is typically a Swedish, relaxation massage, especially on the legs. Deep pressure on the legs while pregnant is a big NO, NO. Since being pregnant makes women more susceptible to blood clots, deep tissue massage is avoided so to not dislodge blood clots. A gentle massage on the legs will still feel AMAZING! Firmer pressure is acceptable on other parts of the body.

Since heat is avoided during pregnancy, the massage bed will not be warmed prior to the massage.

Benefits of a Prenatal Massage

Reduce stress hormones

Loosen muscles

Increase blood flow

This helps flush out toxins and keeps the lymphatic system working

Helps with mentality during pregnancy

Massage acts as a comfort, and can aide in relieving depression symptoms

Help relieve pain associated with pregnancy such as:

Joint pain

Neck

Back

Sciatica

Insomnia

Leg Cramps

Reduce swelling

Alleviate headaches and congestion

Safety & Risk

Massage during the first 3 months of pregnancy may lead to dizziness or morning sickness as well as an increased risk for miscarriage associated during the first trimester.

Certain trigger points have been known to induce contractions. It is extremely important to let your therapist know you are pregnant, or could be pregnant prior to massage, in order to avoid these pressure points.

When scheduling, make sure it is with a therapist certified in Prenatal Massage. They will know what areas of the body to avoid and to massage. You can also feel at ease knowing they will be able to help relieve any pain or pressure that arises during your massage associated with pregnancy.

Let your massage therapist know any symptoms or sicknesses you are having during your pregnancy to avoid further complications.

Women who have experienced any of the following symptoms should contact their provider before having a massage:

Bleeding

Are a high-risk pregnancy

Previous pre-term labor

Sever swelling

High blood pressure

Recently gave birth

Pre-term contractions

When can I get a Prenatal Massage?

After the first trimester is generally when pregnant women can start getting prenatal massages. It is always best to check with a doctor first for the go ahead.

Cost

Cost of a prenatal massage typically ranges from $60-$120 depending on where you are having it done as well as how long the massage it.

Prenatal Massage at CNY Healing Arts in Syracuse & Rochester NY:

CNY Healing Arts in Syracuse and Rochester NY are one of the top massages places to get a Prenatal massage. Why? Because we are the sister business to CNY Fertility! Everyday we are meeting and helping women get pregnant! If you are a pregnant woman, you can feel confident in choosing CNY to help you on your pregnancy journey!

*We advise against using our aqua terrace, dry sauna and use of steam in our steam showers while pregnant.

What to expect at CNY

At CNY, the pregnancy pillow is optional. If a pregnant woman chooses to forego the pillow, the therapist will perform a massage with the client on their side so to not disrupt the baby. Each person is different on what they find most comfortable.

“Laying on the pregnancy pillow was so comfortable for me during my massage! I had not been able to lay on my stomach for weeks, so being able to do it comfortably was great. The massage was so relaxing, I fell asleep and had to be woken up at the end!”

-CNY Syracuse Client, Amber

During the beginning of pregnancy and middle, attention to pressure points are avoided during massage. If it is the end of your pregnancy and you are close to your due date or past, massage therapists at CNY can pay attention to these pressure points. They agree it is better to go naturally then be induced with drugs. This is only done with the client’s consent. A massage therapist would never decide on their own to apply pressure to these points.

Smooth stones are heated and placed on the skin

The stones are used as an extension of the therapists hand

A typical Hot Stone massage is 1 hour to 90 minutes

Hot Stone massage is great for deep relaxation, anxiety and depression relief, aid in loosening stiff muscles

What is a Hot Stone Massage

A Hot Stone Massage is a type of massage where smooth stones are heated and used as an extension of the massage therapists’ hands to massage. The warmed stones promote deep relaxation and are useful in breaking up dense tissue causing muscle pain. The use of the stones and heat is to warm the muscles causing them to relax. When the muscles are relaxed, the massage therapist is able to apply deeper pressure without causing the client discomfort.

The stones used are typically made of basalt since basalt retains heat. Basalt is a type of volcanic rock. The stones, also referred to as “River Rocks”, are smooth due to the river current. The stones are heated to a temperature between 110 degrees F and 130 degrees F in a professional grade stone heater. Your massage therapist may choose to either lay stones on certain points of your body or hold them in their hands to aide in relaxation and the kneading process of a typical Swedish massage.

Body points stones may be placed on include:

Spine

Stomach

Chest

Face

Palms

Arch of Foot

The use of the stones as an extension of the therapist’s hands helps with circular movements, tapping, vibrations and kneading techniques.

Depending on your massage therapist, a cold stone may also be used at times during your massage. Cold stones are said to calm and large blood vessels and soothe the skin.

Benefits of Hot Stone

Overall relaxation

Relaxation of muscles

Improved sleep

Helps relieve depression and anxiety symptoms

What to expect

During a Hot Stone massage, you can expect the stones to be used throughout the entire massage. If the therapist is not using the stones in their hands to massage, they will place the stones on parts of the body such as down the spine, on the feet, stomach or legs. Depending on each individual’s health history and areas of tension, the therapist will determine where to place stones. The stones will vary in size and weight. Your therapist will test the stone’s heat on themselves first then on you before placing it completely on your skin. Sometime stones will be placed directly on the skin, other times there will be a sheet or towel barrier between you and the stone. Oils will be used on the body so stones can move easily on the skin. The massage therapist will cup the stones in their hands and glide them along the body in circular motions and along the muscles. A Hot Stone massage can be a Swedish, relaxation massage or the stones can be used to get into deeper muscle groups.

A Hot Stone massage is typically a longer treatment from 1 hour to 90 minutes.

Anyone can benefit from a Hot Stone Massage. If you are someone looking for deep relaxation and love the warmth of a massage bed, this is the treatment for you!

Who shouldn’t get a Hot Stone massage?

Pregnant women should avoid a Hot Stone massage.

If you are a person who does not like a heated massage bed or heat in general, we would recommend a different treatment as you will become warmer during a Hot Stone massage than a regular, custom massage.

Risks and Warnings

Since the stones are heated, there is always a chance of getting burned. Your massage therapist will test the temperature of the stones prior to placing it on your skin. If the stone is too hot, let your therapist know immediately to avoid any discomfort.

Stones should never be warmed in microwaves, ovens, hot plates, or slow cookers. A Stone warmer, made specifically for heating stone is best to avoid burns.

This is not typically a painful treatment. As with any massage, if the work is too deep, causing you discomfort, let the therapist know immediately.

It is always best to check with your doctor if you have any medical conditions such as high blood pressure, diabetes, heart disease, varicose veins, decreased pain sensitivity, epilepsy, tumors, or metal implants before receiving a Hot Stone Massage. If you have inflamed skin, sunburns or open wounds, it is best to avoid Hot Stone massage until those are cleared up to avoid irritations.

Make sure to be hydrated the day of your massage. Massage releases toxins in the body from breaking up knots and muscles. It is important to have enough water before but also to drink plenty afterward.

Like any massage appointment, make sure to disclose all health history details with your massage therapist prior to treatment

Couples massages are for everyone; two people in a relationship, friends or with a family member

The benefits include increased affection, comfort to the other person, relaxation, being present, easing tensions

The cost varies by location and service, typically a couple’s massage will start around $60+ per person

At CNY Healing Arts in Syracuse offers the custom, Hot Stone, Thai Poultice and Warm Bamboo as couples massage

What is a Couples Massage?

A massage is a great way to treat yourself to some self love. It promotes relaxation, healing, stress relief and helps with injury and recovery. A good massage can have lasting benefits that leaves your body healing, circulating blood flow, and improving your overall health even after the massage has finished.

A couple’s massage is a massage for two people that takes place in the same room. It lets you enjoy the benefits of a regular massage in the company of a loved one . There are two separate massage beds side by side with separate massage therapists. At CNY Healing Arts in Syracuse, a typical treatment is an hour long but can also be ninety minutes or thirty minutes. The massages take place in a private room, reserved specifically for you and your partner. The massage therapists coordinate so that the massages start and end at the same time.

An increased bond between partners on a mental and physical level is one benefit of a couples massage. It is also normal for friends or loved ones to get this treatment together. The couples massage creates a safe place for you and your partner, whoever it may be, to relax together.

Benefits of a Couple’s Massage

Couples massages can have significant impact on strengthening the bond between partners. A good massage releases oxytocin, otherwise known as the ‘love hormone’. So, when you get a couple’s massage, love is literally in the air! A couple’s massage can create increased affection towards one another coming from a safe space of calm and ease.

A gift card for a massage or a surprise trip to the spa can be a great idea for special occasions or holiday’s as an alternative to an expensive meal. The benefits of a massage will last longer on you and your partner well past dinner time. You will feel refreshed, connected and brand new after leaving your treatment. In Syracuse, we have beautiful spa amenities such as the aqua terrace, steam showers, dry saunas and a relaxation room that are open to clients at no additional cost. Coming early for your appointment or staying after to enjoy these amenities will give your spa experience an added boost.

Another great benefit of a couple’s massage is that it gives comfort to someone who has never tried massage before and might be reluctant about getting one. Having someone else they know in the room can help make the setting more comfortable. This massage is also great for a partner that might be apprehensive to the idea of being naked in a room with someone other than their partner. Getting massaged together can bring some peace of mind to the idea of it.

Massages help you stay present. It is often hard to be present and in the moment when dealing with life’s stresses. Being able to be present together with a loved one is a great way to let go of the past and stresses of the future. This sense of being present helps partners to reconnect by bringing some mindfulness into their lives together.

Couples Massage at CNY Healing Arts in Syracuse

When you arrive at CNY Healing Arts in Syracuse, you and your partner will be greeted with plush robes upon check in. After you are given a tour of the facility, you will enter separate men and women’s retreats where you have the option to shower, use the dry sauna or change into swim suits to enjoy the co-ed aqua terrace before your treatment. When it is about 5 minutes before your appointment, you will follow the stairs or take the elevator up to our top floor. There you will find two outside balconies with lounge chairs and tables and an indoor waiting room filled with comfy chairs and couches. Help yourself to our complimentary water, tea and coffee while you wait for your appointment to begin.

Your therapists will greet you by calling your name. It is always best to use the rest room prior to treatment as to not interrupt yours or your partners massage. Once in your private room, each therapist will ask about your health history as well as what you are looking for out of the massages as well as what kind of pressure you are looking for. Once settled in, the therapists will exit the room leaving you to un-robe and get comfortable on the table in private.

A few moments later they will return and your session will begin. It is up to you and your partner if you would like your treatment to be in silence or if you choose to conversate. The massage therapist will follow your lead. Your therapist will check in on you throughout the massage asking about the pressure. If anything is ever uncomfortable, let them know and they will adjust accordingly.

After your treatment, your therapists will exit the room leaving you and your partner to re- adjust and get changed back into your robes. Once you are all set, your therapists will greet you outside the door with a cup of water and lead you to our dimmed relaxation room filled with comfy chairs, couches, and a fireplace. We encourage couples to spend all the time they need in to room to enjoy the relaxation and each other’s company. After you have properly recovered, you are invited to use the amenities again before the end of your stay. Our locker rooms are equipped with body and face towels as well as sandals for you to use during your stay.

But if you’re still not sure, let’s do some learning!

Fast Facts

Reiki is a form of energy healing.

It provides light, to no touch by the practitioner.

The energy is transferred from the practitioner’s hands to the client.

Reiki can help improve overall wellbeing and does wonders for your emotional state.

Reiki is used to help manage symptoms, not cure disease.

Cost typically ranges from $30-$100

What is Reiki

“Reiki is a Japanese form of hands-on healing otherwise known as energy work. The client receives the energy through the practitioner by the laying on of hands. The universal life force energy is channeled through the practitioner, out their hands, into the client. Reiki energy is very intelligent. It goes into your system enhancing/increasing your energy while turning negative energy into positive energy which enhances your spiritual, emotional, and physical wellbeing.” – Heather Anne Cachione, LMT, Reiki Master at out Syracuse CNY Healing Arts

Reiki came to the U.S through Hawaii in the 1940s after being taught to about 2,000 people starting in 1922 by Mikao Usui, a Japanese Buddhist. The definition if “Reiki” is, a healing technique based on the principle that the therapist can channel energy into the patients by means of touch, to advocate the natural processes of the patient’s body and restore physical and emotional well-being. Reiki stems from the words “Rei” meaning Spiritual Wisdom and “Ki” meaning Life Force Energy.

Rei is said to be wisdom from God, the higher self. This meaning that Reiki energy is a powerful energy that can be used on all. It understands each person and how to heal.

Ki is the non-physical energy where if this energy is low, it is more likely to cause illness or make one vulnerable to illness. A high energy makes for health and a positive wellbeing.

Reiki is often referred too as palm healing or hands-on healing due to the nature of how it is performed. Reiki’s natural method od healing is often very meditative and magical fro both the practitioner and the client.

Benefits of Reiki

The same energy used in tai chi is what is involved with Reiki. It is referred to as “Qi” which is pronounced “Chi”. One must tune into the energy if they wish to feel results as it cannot be proven by science.

“The sensation, relaxation and beautiful experience will leave the client with an overwhelming calmness that comes from such a wonderful healing.” -Heather in Syracuse

Reiki is a great from of healing for the emotional state by changing the energy patterns in the body. Reiki practitioners believe that energy can be stagnant in the body where trauma has been inflicted whether physical or emotional areas of the body. Increased flow of energy can help release toxins built up enabling relaxation, decreased pain and symptoms of sickness. Reiki is based on the idea that there is an unseen life force energy that flows through each of us. A low life source energy is what causes our immune system to be down causing illness. When the energy is high, we are more likely to be happy and healthy.

Reiki has also been noted in aide with cancer patients. Reiki helps them to relax. The healing power of touch can cause a soothing response on patients who may be overwhelmed, scared, and stressed. It has also been said to be beneficial when patients are going through chemotherapy.

Benefits include:

A sense of calm

Relaxation

Better Sleep

More ease of movement

More creativity

A sense of being re charged

Revitalized

What to expect at a Reiki Session

Reiki is best performed in quiet, peaceful settings. It can be performed sitting in a chair or lying down. Generally being fully clothed is best. Although at CNY In Syracuse and Rochester, we invite clients to change into a robe for extra relaxation. Depending on the setting, soft music may be played in the background. All jewelry, hair ties, glasses, shoes and socks should be removed before your session. As with any massage, it is best to turn your phone on silent to limit any interruptions or distractions.

The Reiki treatment will include little to no touch at all. Hands are held directly over certain points in the body where the practitioner feels stale energy. Hands will be held in these areas for as long or as little as the practitioner sees fit, or as long as they feel the energy flowing. Hands will be in different shapes and held over the head, limbs and torso. The practitioner’s hands may become warm. Once their hands are no longer warm or tingly, this signifies to them there is no longer energy flowing and they move onto the next area. Even after a person leave their treatment, the energy will continue to heal.

It is a personal choice, but some Reiki practitioners will choose to use crystals or chakra healing tools to help enhance the energy from the treatment.

A sessions length depends on where you have this treatment done. In Syracuse and Rochester, sessions are thirty or sixty minutes long. Your practitioner may recommend additional sessions after your initial visit to continue the healing process with energy work.

There usually won’t be any talking during a session after going over your health history in the beginning of your session. Always let your practitioner know if something feels uncomfortable. Our practitioners in Syracuse and Rochester Healing Arts are trained to customize each clients session specifically to their needs and preferences.

Everyone’s experience with Reiki will be different. Some individuals report feeling different sensations such as body tingles, heat, seeing colors or images or recalling memories. It is in the patient’s best interest to let these feelings happen and not try to push them away. The more you continue with Reiki treatments, the deeper the connections and feelings will get.

Cost

Reiki ranges in cost depending on where you have your treatment done and length of time. Costs typically range from $30-$100 and if often not covered by insurance.

Side Effects

Reiki is not an alternative to medical treatments. It can be used along side treatment to help support healing and positivity.

Some side effects to a Reiki treatment may include:

Weakness

Headache

Stomach discomfort

Side effects are often short lived and not serious.

In order to avoid side effects it is important to disclose all medical history to your practitioner prior to your session.

If you are feeling extreme side effects post treatment, we recommend calling your doctor.

Evidence

Since Reiki is a form of energy healing, there is no hard pressed evidence of its effectiveness. Clients who receive this treatment do confirm the benefits and effectiveness. The popularity of this treatment is increasing.

From a scientific point of view, Reiki produces results on an electromagnetic level. From recent research, it appears that Reiki and other type of energy-work act to electromagnetically ‘jump-start’ the body’s own healing process by producing changes in vibrational frequency that in turn stimulate physical changes in the body.

Reiki at CNY Healing Arts in Syracuse and Rochester NY

Our Syracuse and Rochester Healing Arts locations both offer Reiki services. Practitioners are highly skilled and always advancing their knowledge. We offer a 30- or 60-minute Reiki session. Prices vary per location. No two sessions are alike. Call Syracuse or Rochester today to book your session and feel your life force energy rise!

At CNY in Syracuse, we have Master Reiki Teacher, Heather Anne Cachione who hosts classes throughout the year training you to become Reiki certified. Anyone can sign up for classes, even if you are not a massage therapist. In these classes, students will go through the different levels of Reiki training. After level one, students will be certified as a level one Reiki practitioner and able to perform Reiki on their own to themselves or loved ones. After the first level one course, students practice on their own for about 10-14 days before meeting with Heather again to perform Reiki on her where she can then answer any questions during their follow up session.

The passing on of Reiki from one to another is referred to as lineage. If you “have Reiki”, you are part of a succession of teachers leading back to the founder.

Our CNY Healing Art Center in Syracuse New York specializes in Reflexology services offering Reflexology to the greater Upstate New York community. If you are constantly on your feet, whether from work, exercise, hobbies, or just a hectic lifestyle, Reflexology is the treatment for you!

Our practitioners are highly skilled and we offer both a 30- or 60-minute Reflexology session! Prices are $60 for 30 minutes and $90 for 60 minutes.

Call our Syracuse office at 315-671-5755 to schedule your Reflexology treatment today!

To learn more about why Reflexology is so great, read on!

Fast Facts

Reflexology acts as a healing method for pain causing change and benefits in the body

Reflexology helps remove energy blocks using specific pressure points such as in the toes, ball of the foot, arch of the foot and heel

Reflexology can help with: stress, headaches, pain, sleep problems, PMS, digestive issues and more

Being light headed after treatment or having sensitivity are possible side effects

Treatments are typically a half hour to one hour and range in cost from $40-$100

What is Reflexology

Reflexology in Syracuse is under the category of massage and acupuncture. It is where pressure is applied to different points in the hands, feet and ears that correlate to different parts of the body such as organs or body systems. Applying pressure to these pressure points have specific health benefits. In Syracuse and Rochester NY, we have trained practitioners who will help ease your pain and tension with a customized reflexology treatment.

Understanding a foot reflexology chart

Therapists use a foot map to determine which pressure points correlate to the specific body parts. The right foot applies to the right side of the body and same goes for the left foot and left body.

When pressure is applied to specific parts of the foot, it directly correlates to other parts of the body.

Toes = Head

Ball of Foot = Heart, Chest

Arch of Foot = Liver, Pancreas, Kidneys

Heel of Foot = Low Back, Intestines

Additionally, pressure points have been known to help balance the nervous system. A balanced nervous system can result in endorphins which help aide in the recovery from pain or stress.

How Reflexology Works/Traditional Chinese Medicine

Reflexology has roots in traditional Chinese medicine and the belief of “Qi” which means “vital energy”. According to the traditional Chinese medicine background, Qi flows through each of us and when a person is stressed or under pressure, their Qi is blocked which causes the body to be out of balance leading to possible injury or illness.

Difference between Foot Massage and Reflexology

Reflexology differs from a foot massage because of the different techniques used. A foot massage manipulates muscles to improve circulation and results in over all relaxation. A foot massage does not focus on pressure points but focus on the foot and tissue as a whole.

A typical foot massage is performed by hands but sometimes can use sticks or rollers to better stimulate the muscles. Practitioners use kneading techniques from the soul of the foot up through the arch and to the toes. The use of kneading helps release any tension you hold in your body.

A foot massage not only helps rejuvenate your feet, but also brings an overall relaxation to the entire body.

It is said that even a 10 minute foot massage before going to sleep can greatly help with sleep patterns and release tensions on the feet and lower body by improving blood circulation.

Since there are so many pressure points in the feet, even if it is a strict foot massage and not reflexology, the manipulation of muscles helps with lowering anxiety, blood pressure and helps with people who suffer from plantar fasciitis.

This is a great treatment to get if you are pregnant especially when they are in the last trimester. Foot massage can help decrease water retention in the feet and ankles.

Overall , the main different between a foot massage and reflexology is the techniques used. Reflexology focuses on pressure points which correlate to specific part of the body, where a foot massage focuses on just the foot as a whole.

Differences from other treatments

Massage and Reflexology differ in the fact that regular massage manipulates large areas of muscle tissue often the full body whereas reflexology is only pressure points in the hands, feet and ears.

Reiki differs by applying light to no touch on the physical body. Reiki relay’s on energy work being transferred from the practitioner’s hands to the body of the client.

Like acupuncture, reflexology uses pressure points to influence other parts of the body system. They differ since acupuncture uses points on the entire body where reflexology uses pressure points only points in the hands, feet and ears.

Benefits of Foot Reflexology

Reduce stress and anxiety

Help relieve pain

Helps to brighten your mood

Improves over all well being

Can lead to improved sleep and enhanced relaxation

Help with health conditions:

Boosting immune system

Helps fight off common colds or infections

Helps with allergy relief

Can correct hormonal issues or help PMS symptoms

Improve digestion

Ease arthritis pain

What to expect

During a treatment at our Syracuse CNY Healing Arts, you will initially discuss your health history with your practitioner. From there, your practitioner will choose specific pressure points to relieve pain, reduce stress or aide in the goal you are looking to achieve with a reflexology session. Sessions are typically a half hour or one hour treatment. For best results, your practitioner might recommend multiple sessions. This varies per person.

Reflexology should not be painful. Most people find it to be a relaxing session. Areas that feel tender might need extra work. Your practitioner may spend extra time on these points. If at any point it is too uncomfortable, always let them know. The use of pressure will decrease the soreness you may feel.

A common question is, what if you are tickleish? Practitioners use firm pressure on the feet. Generally this means you will not have that tickle feeling.

Safety & Side effects

Reflexology is generally a safe treatment to receive. It is categorized under the acupuncture or foot massage category. It is noninvasive and comfortable to receive. If you do have the following issues, it would be best to check with your doctor before receiving treatment as well as provide an accurate health history to your practitioner prior to receiving treatment.

Circulatory problems in the feet

Blood clots

Gout, foot ulcers or fungal infections

Open wounds on hands or feet

Thyroid problems

Epilepsy

A low platelet count that could cause you to bruise easily

*If you are pregnant, be sure to let your therapist know as some pressure points can induce contractions

Some side effects might include lightheadedness, tender feet or emotional sensitivity. These will subside shortly. Like any massage, it is important to drink plenty of water following your treatment and make sure you are well enough to drive afterwards. Taking a few moments to sip on water and relax before moving quickly is recommended.

Costs

The cost typically ranges from $40-$100 per session.

Foot Reflexology at CNY in Syracuse NY

Foot Reflexology restores strength and balance to your body through its use of pressure points. Reflexology is a powerful Asian healing tradition using special massage techniques to heal the body and restore balance within your system.

The treatment starts with a warm foot soak to promote circulation and blood flow to your pelvic organs. Next, we examine the feet to look for clues regarding what might be happening in the rest of your body. Finally, experience a relaxing foot massage aimed at the areas of your body you want to focus on. This treatment can stand alone, or be added to any other treatment selection.

Like mentioned above, it is important to prove your practitioner with a full health history prior to treatment. We offer free consultations at CNY Syracuse if you would like more specific details pertaining to yourself before treatment.

30-minute session $60

60-minute session $90
