While pricey at just over £320 per item the Japanese Wooden Tote Shou is a wonderful series of stylish wooden tote bags.  The bags are crafted using a soft wood sheet that is impregnated with a special resin that hardens the surface, making it less vulnerable to scratches while waterproofing the entire bag and protecting it against the elements!

While it’s hay day might have been back in the 1070′s cork flooring is making a return, but not as we know it.

Instead of using neat, conventional square floor tiles Dan Phillips, of Huntsville, Texas has taken the sustainable route and repurposed thousands of wine bottle corks to fashion an amazing recycled cork floor for his ‘Bone House’ project.

The big question is how long did it take Dan to collect all those corks and what is he going to do with all the bottles?

Imaginatively titled “Is six afraid of seven/ ’cause seven, eight, nine/ I’m about to lose the pieces I find”  is an elaborate rug installation by Heidi Voet that consists of  over four thousand, multicolored watches woven together and  all set to the exact time, creating a symphony of digital chimes.

Breathtaking detail goes into creating these life like items of clothing that are sculpted  from wood by Taiwanese artist Mary Leu. Patiently,  each intricate piece of hand carved wood clothing can take between 3 months and a year to fashion from a single piece of timber.
The Artsit states:
While carving, I am always focused and constantly strive to improve my techniques… Art is just not about mastering techniques; it’s about expressing one’s emotions and the beauty inherent in the mind. Sculpture is about evincing affection and its subject should be something that can be appreciated by all.

 The Glasgow Construction Forum

On Friday 22nd of February McKay Flooring hosted The Glasgow Construction Forum at their stunning showroom at Harmony Row, Govan. Over coffee and a Continental style breakfast buffet, many of the movers and shakers of the Glasgow construction industry met contacts old and new while also hearing some illuminating talks from William Mair of Spiers Gumley and Norman Kerr from Energy Action Scotland.

The event was a hit with all who attended, including some new faces who were attending their first Glasgow Construction Forum. The staff of McKay Flooring stepped into the breach and supplied our illustrious guests with hot beverages when the Caterer that had been organised failed to materialise, ensuring that what turned out to be a productive meeting for all went off without a hitch.

Handy work! Created by artist Christopher David White this extraordinary wood like hand is actually sculpted ceramic. Titled ‘Cycle of Decay’, even up close the knots and twisting veins etched into the ceramic surface look exactly like an old piece of wood.

Since 1999, Glaswegian artist Jim Lambie  has being using colourful sticky tape to build floor installations such as his much celebrated piece Touch Zobop. The everyday household tape is applied in continuous lines transforming the dynamics of the floor space and changing a quiet gallery  into an energetic and emotional space of sensory pleasure. Lambie introduces a colour rhythm that vibrates and pulsates.

 Lambie says:

“For me something like Zobop, the floor piece, it is creating so many edges that they all dissolve. Is the room expanding or contracting? … Covering an object somehow evaporates the hard edge off the thing, and pulls you towards more of a dreamscape.”

After installing a new floor for another delighted customer, one of our expert floor fitters, Paul Liddell, sent us on these pictured of the finished job.
