On Friday I'm presenting a full day masterclass in JHB for the Ogilvy Digital Marketing Academy. I'm excited as it's my first full day training for ODMA (I've done a few one hour sessions before.)

It'll be a little different than other full day training sessions I've done, it won't be a situation where I lecture the whole day but rather I'll be attempting to facilitate a more interactive day of learning and discussion.

I'm a big fan of using existing social networks in a smart way to boost your own reputation and meet your business objectives.

It doesn't have to be complicated, the most effective social media interactions reach the right people in a natural, conversational manner. This approach applies to any size business and individuals alike.

I especially like it when individuals use a channel like twitter with natural ease and honesty…and it has a direct impact on their personal reputation and their business objectives.

I wrote this post back in 2008...it's still relevant.

This is a short list of some things I've picked up or noticed along the way that irk me. I think that if you remove all the tech and jargon and 'stuff', embracing Web 2.0 concepts and thinking, it's relatively easy to make a good first impression, and let's face it when it comes to communicating through the web that's all we have. I'm a marketer and a social media 'worker' so I tend to look at the global process.

I do social media 'stuff', so most of my work revolves around planning campaigns that hopefully engage people who naturally interact using social media. Obviously Facebook is part of that equation… I work in a PR kinda space though, so paid for media is not my expertise.

Facebook is a social media powerhouse that since the beginning I have always had a love/hate relationship with. To be honest, a while back when my dad (age 60+) expressed an interest in Facebook it made me feel that this online community may be moving towards the wrong side of the bell curve.
